Great video Rod, don't be hard on your self on the first video, lovely mackerel (my favourite). Thanks for uploading the video. Kind regards Mike. Norfolk. 🐟🐟
Thanks Ian - I tend to avoid West Bexington now, preferring the long walk at Cogden to get away from the crowds. Still get mackerel there, but not in the same numbers as at Bexington.
Nice video as always Rod,love how you always vary your tactics for that extra bite. Big congratulations on your 2K plus subscribers.Richly deserved for your always 100% effort alone. Stay safe and keep these videos coming.
Another great video Rod, what a second session, makes it all worth it. And it appears Bream are doing well, I live in North Kent and they've been caught around here which I've never seen before. Look forward to the next video 👍🏻
Yes bream seem to to expanding their range this year - apparently they've bypassed Essex, but have been caught in Suffolk! Thanks for watching and commenting.
Another brilliant video, makes me so envious to see you fishing from so many different locations. I only get chance to go fishing a couple of times a year. One thing has caught my eye, your rucksack. would you share where i can get one just like that.
Glad you enjoyed it @Movie Man. My rucksack is a Maver Moby Dick - if I remember correctly, I think I bought it from Chesil Bait N Tackle in Weymouth; whether they still sell them, I couldn't say.
Congratulation on 2000 subscribers but I'm not surprised - your videos are an absolute joy to watch and I really look forward to each week's offering. Bit late watching this one however...I developed raging tooth ache Bank Holiday Sunday culminating in the offending tooth being extracted on Wednesday and I really haven't felt like doing very much at all! Those Colmic rods look superb. Did you obtain them from Italy? That seems to be the only source from my, albeit limited, investigation. Great video and a splendid outcome. Cheers. Ken
Many thanks for your support again Ken and hope there's no pain now! I obtained the rods via a Colmic rep who supplies shops in the SW - I believe Christchurch Angling Centre would be your best bet.
Very good man ur good sea angler I'm ok fishing but not best WOULED you use ? Do you use a tapered shock leader on ur braid or just have shock leader on trace how come you cast that way is it better il like use braid I'm got advised tackle shop 60lb braid on leader I want more distance more as possible just in case I need distance wen walter get low were I go. Can you do a video how you cast like that If I get 25 braid next time will it be ok with a bit of a wack and a 8oz weight at maximum
Hi Antony. With 25lb braid, I would use a mono shock leader of about 50lb and just an overhead cast like I do, but with the reel, the right way up! I have a peculiar casting style, so I wouldn't recommend anyone trying to copy it! I just don't get on with tapered leaders. Go for a strong, but low diameter line for shock lesders to avoid getting wind knots. Good luck and thanks for watching.
A good session Rod, 5 species as well. I went Tuesday, not on the beach, I had my first days fishing on my new boat. 8 species between myself and my mate. Looking forward to the next video.
Nice vid again. Where do you source your bait from? I think I’m from the same neck of the woods as you, Essex area, but I always have trouble getting bait, lug rag, etc. Do you use mail order for black lug? Cheers.
Thanks for watching @anglerfish1001. I tend to dig my own blowlug at Southend. I frequently buy ragworm from either Newhaven or Portsmouth, depending on which I'm nearest to at the time. Black lug normally comes from Dungeness area - number of shops I visit get this. I'm not sure what the supply situation is at the moment regarding Welsh blacks, but if I can get hold of that, I prefer it to the Kent stuff.
Very enjoyable Rod, thank you. Sole is definitely your favourite fish, that smile said it all. What size hooks are best for sole? I am guessing that lug or ragworm will catch sole.
You are right Jerry - I love to catch soles. Pity is, I also love to eat them, as much as I would like to let them all go! The best hook, by far, is a Mustad size 3 Nordic bend - the size 4 is too small (OK for 'slips') - size 3 is perfect with small ragworm (normally I find this to be the best bait) and small or the tail end of lugworm. Thanks for watching and commenting.
@@rodsangleuk6283 Thank you so much for this info Rod. I really appreciate it and I also love to eat soles. I buy them nearby, usually lemon or Dover and they are delicious.
Best of luck Peter - Hopton is on my to do list! Used to fish well for codling, if Pakefield wasn't producing, but that's later in the year. I've looked over it a couple of times, but not fished it myself, since when I was up there, it was 'whiting city'.
Great video👍🏻, can I ask you, what braid are you using and what braid to leader knot, as I had a nightmare with mine during the last session, I am a novice when it comes to surf fishing
Thanks for watching and your interest Audrius. I use Whiplash Pro - 20lb generally. I have spools with 30lb and other reels with 50lb braid for the odd occasion when that's needed. I just use a double uni knot - my White Horses video shows how I tie a leader to braid. I hope that helps.
Hey Rod, New subscriber here, great content and production! I generally fish Newhaven or Seaford (quite unsucessfully) so thanks for confirming its just me! Also what's your camera setup, looks like you have a camera man with a boom and dolly, makes a nice change from gopros and head cams!
Thanks Chi11iPino - you'll soon do well at Seaford - just have to have the right conditions. There's no camera crew - I do all the filming with action cameras - the editing makes it look like someone else has filmed it.
@@rodsangleuk6283 excellent work with the camera, it looks very TV!. Went to Newhaven last week, Seaford this weekend and blanked both times. using combos of frozen blacks and live rag on clipped down flappers and ledgers. Other Fishingmen seem to have the same problem. What conditions do you look for, to be fair this weekend it was pretty rough!
First session, just a few joey mackerel for bait. Second session the four mackerel for eating and two sizable soles. I don't have any issues with taking fish - just think of what trawlers do and the undersized fish sold in supermarkets.
Yes - I generally fish for flatfish and keep the rods low if I can (weed and waves and wind may put pay to that), since they are bottom feeders. With braid, I keep a tight line, so cast up drift / current and hope to have the line from my rod tip as close to 90 degrees as possible - this helps with bite detection. Contrary to common belief, not all flatfish hook themselves - I want to see the bites and decide when to strike. Doesn't always work - but that's my style. Thanks for watching and commenting Stefan.
I do this for enhanced bite detection. And to save my neck from aching. If you have have your rods facing where you cast you usually have to angle them high to see any rod tip movement. Bare in mind i use 15ft rods. Its more chilled to just hold them off to the side.
@@rodsangleuk6283 Thank you for the great response! I've just looked more into flat fishing and I see that it's quite different to the others, very interesting. Might give it a try on the next trip, thanks!
I admire your determination and willingness to adapt to the situation at hand. Great vid Rod, as usual.
Many thanks fot that John.
you did well top marks , lovely place to fish .
Thanks Mick - Cambridge Road video on its way👍
Hi thanks again loved to have fished with you 30 years ago all the best
Thanks for that Andy - I wish I was 30 yrs younger!
Why 30 years ago? i would love to fish with Rod now =]
@@rodsangleuk6283 hi its like I said before I am in a wheelchair I was alright then miss the waves crashing on the pebbles thanks

Thanks, will do!
Really enjoyed this video - I remember Mackerel fishing in the UK (at West Bexington, Dorset). We have a bigger version called Kahawai here in NZ

Thanks again Anthony!

Great vid as always. Like your new colmic rods! Very nice
Thanks for that Tomas - yes, I'm very pleased with them as well!
Great video again.👍🎣
Thanks Bugsy Boy 👍
Thanks for this. I tried with feathers at Dungeness last weekend but I think the water was too rough so visibility was no good. I’ll try again 👍🇬🇧😄
