Another interesting one Rod despite the whiting hoards, as you say just try to fish through them .... there must be millions of them out there. I enjoyed your snood work and constant thinking on change when things fail or disappoint , reminded me of watching match fisherman plying their trade. Thanks for sharing
Great video again Rod. Impeccable as usual. I used to fish adjacent to the Golf course at Frinton in the 60's. I'd be interested to see how it fishes 50 years later if you're ever that way. It used to be a good mark.
Thanks again Tony. Yes, I am planning on fishing the huts on stilts stretch, once we can travel again this spring - I think its better than the Polebarn Lane end.
Glad you enjoyed it Martin - yes whiting tend to get to your bait before other fish. It's a problem at a lot of venues, this time of the year - worse at night! Thanks for watching.
Not at Pevensey Bay yet; but have caught bass on whiting and pouting at Kingsdown and Chesil. Used to regularly try hair rigging a small hook with small bits of worm on to a 7/0 hook, when fishing for cod at Dungeness - never really worked well for me; but did catch my PB dab doing that! Thanks for watching and the suggestion Mark.
People moan about whiting (just like they moan about dogfish!) but if there's nothing else about they prevent a blank and keep you occupied...and you were certainly occupied during the second session! Pevensey Bay is another venue that I would like to give a go but I suppose I'll have to wait until the lockdown / tier 3 travel restrictions, etc., are relaxed / come to an end. As always, an excellent video. Can't wait for the next one. Now it's time for a cup of tea and a digestive biscuit or two. Cheers and stay safe. Ken
Thanks again Ken. Yes nothing wrong with whiting; unless you are certain that there are other species present, which they are preventing you from catching. If there are - it's down to the angler to outwit and outperform the whiting!
Thanks Les - I'll mention anything new / different that I'm using - but want to avoid too much repetition in the videos. At some point, I'll put together a kit list, but that's not imminent and I'm not trying to sell anything! Thanks for watching and the suggestion though.
Hello and thank you for your good clip. I have 2 questions if possible First can take fish home? Is it free? Or limiting or licence? Second what about top water fishing with lure? Can get fish with lure as top water fishing? Sorry my English is not good, I hope you got it what I mean. Thank you From Milton Keynes
There is no fish to take home, all fish now belong to the English and no one else, the times have just changed no English waters can be pilfered by foreign people it’s law
@@Mel-he1hg my friend did u understand what I mean? Take home not take to other country I mean home for eat . I’m not foreign I live in England just look what I wrote? I worth Milton Keynes
@@buckrogers2828 Anglers should be able to take what they like , they don’t decimate the seas, the boats need cutting back they are the ones that will wipe out all the fish to extinction and that’s a fact, netting, trawling , beam trawling needs a 5 year ban to let the seas recoup and that needs to happen now !!!!!
I’m 50 and when I was growing up you could pretty much take whatever you caught. I fished a lot for trout and salmon, being in Scotland, but sea fishing didn’t really have any sort of limits , well here anyway. I can understand the size limit and only being allowed to take home 2 bass a day for example.... but seriously just how much do anglers impact fish levels???? Absolutely zero I would think! Fingers pointed at the 600,000 tonnes of fish DUMPED in UK waters because boats are not allowed to land and sell them !!! Utterly pointless.... they’re all dead !
Another entertaining video Mick, I always enjoy watching and learning from you. Thirty whiting can be a bit boring and somewhat annoying but still better than a blank session? Hope you catch your sole soon! Can I ask what brand/model of tripod you use? I'm looking for a new one and quite like the look of yours. Tight Lines.
Thanks - yes it can be a bit monotonous catching loads of whiting, unless that's your thing! However, you just have to try and fish through them to catch flatfish. You won't catch flatfish using double squid / cuttlefish or half a bluey, so when the whiting are in, you can either give up and fish for big fish instead (but still catch whiting - but not so many!), or try and fish through them, if you believe there are flatfish to be caught. The tripod is a Leeda Icon. Thanks for watching and your kind words Kevin 👍
@@rodsangleuk6283 Thanks for that Mick, will be looking out for a Leeda Icon! I hear what you say about trying to fish through the whiting, like everything else you say on your videos it makes sense and you usually have a well thought out plan of attack! I think I would have one rod rigged for flatties in the hope of getting some (or live with the whiting?!) and one rod with a big bait on a pennell rig and hope for a bonus larger fish, maybe a lunker bass, but fishing is always fun whatever you catch? Looking forward to your next video already Mick, tight lines and I wish you every success!
I must say, it was nice to see you not pull out flatfish for fun for once. Made me feel a bit better about only catching whiting every session 😂 I tried bartons point in Isle of sheppey the other day. I was trying my luck with squid, lug, sand eel, bluey cocktails to see if anything fancied it. Was just another whiting infestation unfortunately. Just hoping for a cod decent enough to take home. I'm sure you've mentioned in a previous video but what's your reasoning with the rod placement so low down? Is it length of rods or tidal pull? Thanks, Louie
Hi Louie - I've fished the Shinglebank close to Barton's Point recently and know the problem! I keep my rods low when after flatfish, when ever the conditions allow (i.e. low tidal pull and no weed), since they are bottom feeders and I'm tryingb to keep all snoods on the deck. Sometimes, if fishing off a structure, or if the pull is too strong, I'll place a drilled bullet at the top of the rig to keep snoods on the bottom - particularly when fishing for soles and dabs with boom rigs. Thanks for watching and commenting again.

Thanks for sharing Gary. Will have to re-upload my Galloways vid, which somehow got deleted!
