Wow lol :) The staff was really amazing and so very cool with the filming for my little channel - I really appreciated that. What’s your favorite section when you go art supply shopping? Mine is the paint marker section!
@@FionaCArt oh I can relate to being excited over art supply stores! 💃🏻 I can spend a lot of time looking at brushes and paints. I am a recent convert to posca markers, about 6 months ago I decided to start practicing more mixed media, so I bought a spiral bound Canson xl mixed media pad just to “play” in, I also bought my first (of many now) package of Posca. The paper is great it is inexpensive and can take quite a bit of abuse. Each day when I get to my studio I work in that pad for about 10-20 min. It’s turned out to be a great warm up and I have fallen for posca in the process! Last week I went to the Michaels store closest to me and they only had 2 sets of posca markers hanging on a very bare wall!😳 it looked so awful. But when I asked if they’d be getting more in I learned that they have it all out back and only display two at a time because or rampant theft! Our America is not what it used to be is it?!!! I guess the thieves are posca fans too! Lately my obsession has been to put together little plein air kits to have them ready to grab & go (watercolor, liner pens, pencils), so I’ve been on the prowl at art supply sites online for small cases etc. I found that small tactical cases meant for hunting or survival kits are perfect and half the price because they aren’t an art supply! Just don’t drop them in the woods- they blend in!😂
@hannahcrumley3103 I use canson XL a lot as well :) as you say well priced for the amount of material it can take. I’m years into my posca obsession so welcome to the club lolol Yes! At my Michael’s they keep them behind lock and key and then if you have the employees open it for you, they carry it to the front and say you can get it at the register after paying!! So wild!! The search for the perfect travel kit is a lifelong journey I’m afraid - I’ll heed your words about not dropping supplies in the woods tho lollll
@@FionaCArt I have filled 3 Of those mixed media pads since January- it wouldn’t have been a paper I would have used previously- someone told me about it- something that’s not so “precious” that it’s intimidating to try new things! At my Michaels it’s all locked up too but people were cutting the packages and taking the pens out. Where there’s a will there’s a way! And yes- the plein air kit… an ever evolving thing for sure! 🙃
@hannahcrumley3103 wow. People must really love posca to go that far - I’m actually shocked! I wonder if I’ll need a lock on my studio cabinet now that I’ve put this out there? 😂 And I totally get what you mean about non-precious paper!!
I visited the store last summer when I vacation in Buffalo. So much to see there! I also spent nearly 2 hours just looking all over! I was there to look at their fountain pens and writing journals and inks. But I had to look EVERYWHERE of course! They do have some awesome friendly staff! I got a Rhoda pad of paper from there clearance section as well. What a steal! Glad you enjoyed. Buffalo is such a cool city with incredible art gallery’s, AKG, and amazing architecture and the people are warm and friendly. Can’t wait to go back. 👍💙🎨🙋🏼♀️
I wish I could’ve spent more time in Buffalo, as I agree it seems to have quite the art community I was unaware of :) Next time!! Yes, the pen section was so cool - lots of variety and different options :) That’s awesome you shopped the clearance section too! I had never seen that at an art supply store before. Thanks for watching and sharing your experience with us :)
Hi Fiona I loved that you did this haul on hyatts art store I am from Buffalo and every once in a while I try to visit that store. It is a great place for all artist and creative people. Thank you for sharing.
I so miss the old store that was in downtown Buffalo. So many cool goodies in there. The store had a “density” to it much unlike the airy feel of the new place. The old place just had a “feel” and you just didn’t want to leave. Glad you enjoyed your trip to the new place. Yes, it’s definitely worth the stop. Staff has always been great, even when I went to the old place back in my high school days.
@@FionaCArt the old place was jammed with stuff, yet so neat and clean. As I recall, it was a benefit to be Tall when browsing 😂 It was large for a store of its kind having gone through many evolutions over the years. Anything that you could get at the NYC art suppliers, you could get here and then some. When I was in high school (1970s) sometimes we would take the bus downtown and just browse around. I used to do calligraphy, so it was always fun to get a new nib, my friend Lynn did oil pastels. My friend Michael has a writing utensil fetish to the point of being almost scary 😂 and he used to spend a couple of hours in there LOL! You could always find stuff at Hyatts that you just couldn’t get anywhere else.
I googled the same thing this past spring. I was making a trip out east in June and had the opportunity to stop and shop. Yes to the size of the store and friendliness of the associates.
I was in Japan in 1999 with my students. Yuzawaya is a department art store in Tokyo. It is an amazing nine floor building in the heart of Tokyo. I love Sakura Micron Archival ink pens and Sakura Pen-Touch metallic pens.
Love the Sakura pens too :) I believe the biggest art supply store in the entire world is still in Tokyo - perhaps this was the place?! Added to my list to check out someday :) Thanks for watching and sharing!
@@FionaCArt “Hands” was pretty cool too. There’s a street in Tokyo where plastic food artisans craft restaurant food dishes. The chefs send photos of their dishes and the artisans duplicate them in acrylics which the restaurants display to entice the foodies. I was in Western Honshu and met a ceramics artist that was considered a national treasure. He had Degas, Picasso charcoals and Emperor Meiji calligraphy scrolls hanging on his studio walls. He was a cool old dude.
I live a mile up the road from Hyatt, and am there every Monday, still spend hours in there. Staff is always pleasant just as in your videos. Some items can be more expensive, but most are fair market price. Definitely great to see some more rare items in person instead of taking a chance ordering online. Glad you were able to make the trip and check it out.
Every Monday?! That’s amazing :) What a great way to start the week and get a creative boost! Do you have a preferred medium to work in or do you pick something new to try each time you go? :)
I love BUFFALO. Thanks for visiting. Hyatts is AMAZING and I’m so so so thankful that they are in my backyard. #cityofgoodneighbors, #buffalove, #hometown.
I need to go back! There's so much more art to see (and another visit to Hyatt, of course!) That's wonderful you have this amazing resource in your hometown :) Thanks for watching
Looks amazing…and Im guessing that with Buffalo known for some of the coldest blizzardy kind of winters that the locals stock up for those long winters. Wish I could see it in person!
OMG This store would be both heaven for me and a danger zone to be avoided unless I had a strict goal to achieve. It's like the Costco of Art Supplies! Love your tour of it.
New Subscriber here. Just had to say watching art hauls are so therapeutic for me. Plus, the music your chose for this video is so good. :) I'm glad I found your channel!🙂
Thanks for taking us through this fab art supply store. It’s great to see a family-owned store and that they even still exist. There are so many family-owned businesses that over the years, just couldn’t compete with large corporates….or in their effort to grow, they over-expanded and then couldn’t make it work and had to close. I’ll have to remember to check their prices and shipping online. I figure they’re similar to Blick’s in pricing, but they may sell some products that Blick’s doesn’t have or have some deals that no one else has. I also buy from my local fine art supply, Plaza Art (I live in suburban Md, near DC.) They are a smaller, mostly East coast chain. When I can, I do buy from them and like to support them. They are the only fine art supply store near me and their pricing is similar to Blick’s. But I do buy a good bit of art supplies from Amazon too, (sometimes their deals are hard to ignore) and occasionally from Michael’s who carry some fine art, but not near the range of Plaza Art or Blick’s. Thanks! 😊
Thank you for watching and your comment, Nancy :) I tend to shop at my local Jerry’s Artarama or Blick for my fine art supplies, but as you say sometimes amazon can’t be ignored. I also have Michaels for when I’m in a pinch. I do have to say Michaels is great for Black Friday deals - I usually check them out intentionally around that time of year. I’ll have to check out Plaza Art next time I’m in the DC area! Thanks for the recommendation :)
Awesome store and awesome to see something like this still out there. There was a pretty large furniture store that closed in Huntington Beach CA about 20+ years ago and a Plaid art store moved into that space that was probably about this size. I don't think they were even open for 3 years before closing probably due to their prices as a long standing, fully stocked, art store nearby always had great prices.
Oh wow, this was my art supply store when I was in art school. It was in a smaller space on (I think) Main Street back then. I have yet to venture in since I've been back in Buffalo, looks like that trip is well overdue!
That's amazing you knew them when they were in a different location - we love to see family owned businesses grow! :) If you visit, tell them hi from us here on UA-cam ;) Thanks for watching
Hello! New subscriber here! It is lovely to find you! This store is in my state, so how exciting! Thank you for the tip crafty neighbor. Great video and love the haul.
This makes me so desperately miss my favorite toy store - the Pearl Art Supplies in Tampa, FL. They went out of business and had the best sale. A fluke of car ownership led me to make the best purchase in my art life time. I was driving a VW Beetle convertible at the time they had their closing sale. I was going to buy many huge gallery wrapped canvases until I realized the wouldn't fit in my car. So I went in the opposite direction and bought out all the Series 7 Kolinsky sable brushes at 75% off. SCORE!!!!!! Thank you for sharing this dream shopping trip. I still get a art store fix when I visit family in South Florida and stop into Jerry's ArtRama. If this tropical gal ever makes it that far north, Hyatt's is on my list.
WOW!! That sounds like an amazing brush score :) Well done! I feel your struggle with fitting large wrapped canvas' into the car lol I have a Jerry's Artarama nearby me here in NJ, so that's my usual shop. It's very small and I do wish they carried more paint wise. I'll just have to daydream about my afternoon at Hyatt's lol ;) Thank you for watching!
I spent two hours and there was so much more I could’ve seen/spent time doing there (but my wallet would have cried more lol). If you do go, I hope you enjoy it :) There’s also an art museum down the street so you could make a day of it!
I love Hyatt’s! Their old location was walking distance from the tattoo shop I used to work at. We were really bummed when they moved but the new location is great!
That’s cool you could just wander over if you wanted back then :) Did they carry any supplies that you could use in your tattoo shop? Thanks for watching!
@@FionaCArt lots of pens and paper pads for designing tattoos. Also loads of liquid acrylics, brushes and cold press paper for painting sheets of tattoo flash. Lots of times we would buy stuff to play with, did a lot of scratch board
I live about 3 minutes from this store. They are great. Can get everything and more than I need. I have to keep telling myself that that best paints are the ones you already own.

What an awesome place. No way I could have walked out of there under $500! You did well. My favorite all time fine liner..? It's a faber castell 0.05 black. You pay a yearly fee of $25 to be part of the discount club but you save an incredible amount on premium supplies.
Wait…WHAT?!?! Looks like a road trip to Florida is in order!! And then I will definitely get my $500 worth haha ;) I do also love a Faber castell too :)
worked at Hyatts Rochester Location for about 6 years but had absolutely no idea the home office was the largest art supply store in America. Granted in those days they had two big competitors. possibly they werent the biggest then. Will have to make a point to visit soon!
@@FionaCArt The biggest competitor was The Art Store/Commercial Art Supply based in Syracuse. They and Hyatts both had a branch in Rochester so it was a big "battle" for customers. There was always talk of "Jerry's Artarama" purchasing Commercial Art - not sure if they ever did but not really sure what the relationship was. We'd see fliers from Jerry's and consider them a big threat but I think the threat kind of fizzled out. Meanwhile there was "Rochester Art Supply" here as well. They were more for "real Artists" not graphic and illustration supplies. It was interesting days, when all graphic design was done by hand cut films and illustration was done on illustration boards. Computer art was just starting for ad agencies and everyone thought it would never catch on! But the days of illustration board, letraset and rubylith were numbered. There was no way three art suppLy stores were needed in a city our size. Only the original "Rochester Art Supply" remains here now. Looks like they are called "Fine Art Store" now.

And I totally get what you mean about non-precious paper!!
Howdy to the knowledgeable sales person.👍
💯👏👏👏
This is my local store!!! It’s only 15 min from me and absolutely wonderful. They have the best staff!
That’s so awesome :) Yes, the staff is WONDERFUL! Say hello from us here on UA-cam on your next visit :) Thanks for watching!
@@FionaCArt I shall!
OMG...I'm so jealous. How could you not be totally overwhelmed?! You got some great things. (And you looked amazing😍)
I was overwhelmed and wanted everything 😂 But I’m happy with the items I did get :) and I had fun! Thank you for the kind words and for watching! 💕
I'm drooling... I love art stores.
Right?! 🥲 Thanks for watching!
Hi Fiona I loved that you did this haul on hyatts art store I am from Buffalo and every once in a while I try to visit that store. It is a great place for all artist and creative people. Thank you for sharing.
Aw that's lovely - I'm so glad you have this resource nearby :) Thank you for watching and commenting!
Your so welcome enjoy all your treasures. I also subscribed to your channel.
@maryannscheifla thank you for subscribing!! It’s so helpful - I appreciate it :) have a beautiful rest of your week!
I wish I had known and be able to visit the old location too. Sounds like it was magical :) Thanks for sharing your experience and I watching!
I couldn’t. Way too much good stuff.
I hear you! Thankfully the temptation is hours away from me lol :) thanks for watching!
I googled the same thing this past spring. I was making a trip out east in June and had the opportunity to stop and shop. Yes to the size of the store and friendliness of the associates.
Great minds think alike 😉 Hope you grabbed some good things! The staff was really amazing - did you get to meet Flo?!
Wow, this place looks amazing! Thanks for showing us.
Thanks for watching :)
🤩 OH MY GOSH WHAT A STORE ….. 😢Thank you for sharing….i don’t plan to visit USA but if I did this would be my 1st place to in visit list …..
Where are you? Do you have good art supply stores where you live? :)
@@FionaCArt The ever popular alcohol markers haha. How ever right now I'm Greatly invested into acrylic gouche every time I go there.

I imagine it doesn’t hurt to have the resource nearby for those harsh winters :) Thanks for watching!
So fun!!! Glad you were able to pick up a few supplies!
Thanks for watching, Julie :) I’m so excited to play with all my new supplies once my studio is put together!
OMG This store would be both heaven for me and a danger zone to be avoided unless I had a strict goal to achieve. It's like the Costco of Art Supplies! Love your tour of it.
It was so fun, but I had to stop and add up my cart before checkout and remove lots lol way too easy to spend lots!! Thanks for watching :)

Aw - thanks so much for subscribing and joining the family :) Happy to have ya here!
Thanks for showing us this store! Awesome!
Thank you so much for taking the time to watch :)
Thanks for the recommendation :)
what a dreamy place to visit! Probably a good thing it's a long ways away from me!
Haha after being there, I can officially say same 🥲 thank you for watching!
Flo should get a raise! Definitely VIP

What a great store. Thanks for the walk thru
Thank you for watching :)
Looks like a good haul! What a fun trip and experience! 🥰
Yes! Will have to see what DC has to offer in art supply stores ;)
It is rare to see a family owned business like this still open. Those stores in CA sounded cool though :) Thank you for watching and sharing :)
A piece of Heaven!!!
Art store heaven!! 😇😇😇 thank you for watching!
Wow! What fun. Thank you for sharing. I had never heard of this store.
Thank you so much for watching :)

Aw thanks for watching and subscribing :) it’s appreciated!
Wow! I remember
Pearls, they were awesome. I got a lot of things when they had their going out of business sale. That store had everything. Tampa!
Hyatt’s mail order service is excellent!
Thank you for watching and for sharing that with us :)

@tattoojoel666 ahhh of course - that makes sense :)
I miss the old location on Main St., especially the annual “Attic Sale”.

Those Buffalo winters require art supplies. Tfs!
Absolutely!!
OMG I've never heard of that before. I wonder what there cardmaking supply is like? Stamps and ink pads n such
They def had plenty of those things, as well as a markdowned down section with one off papers and such. You should check out their website to see what they got too :) thanks for watching!
What an awesome place. No way I could have walked out of there under $500! You did well. My favorite all time fine liner..? It's a faber castell 0.05 black. If you truly want discounted supples Jerry's Arterama has an actual wholesale warehouse location in Jacksonville Florida. It's not a regular Jerry's.
Oh that’s wonderful - seems like a nice company to work for. Who were the two big competitors at the time? Thanks for watching and sharing :)
Girl you are killing it with the videos and instagram! I am an acrylic painter but I have that set of oil sticks and the colonial set as well as the student version. I got all of mine off of amazon. I love that brand of oil stick it is great too use on paper, canvas, even wood. @@FionaCArt Yeah, i think the Fabriano paper was a good deal. I could be wrong, but I hear a few years ago that they dont make watercolor papers anymore and it was hard to find, which was a shame because Fabriano and Arches are the best paper. But this was also during Covid so I dont know if they started to make paper again or not. But I dont have any art stores around me.. the closest thing I have would be a Hobby Lobby but they dont have much name brand or higher quality stuff. I order everything online unfortunately.. I would love to browse a store to see all my options. I always like the paper section though.. I love checking out watercolor paper and sketchbooks. I would really like to check out a colored pencil section though, but the real art stores are a few hours away.. one day I will get there lol
@kategrossi8717 I do also love arches as well! I didn’t realize that about fabriano and feel even better about my purchase now lol Yes - the paper and sketchbook section is always fun :) I have never stepped foot in a hobby lobby! Maybe I need to check it out?
