People often buy rolls of paper so they can create art in different sizes and even large works of art. A roll can be more economical and more flexible in terms of customizing the sizes of you artwork. Just like canvas rolls for oil painting, a roll of printing or watercolor paper means the artist can cut the paper/canvas into the sizes needed for painting that day. A great investment. More money up front but savings in the long run.
Yes, and you take a straight edge and place it where you want to “cut” the paper, and simply rip. It creates a nice natural looking edge. We do this in print making. Sometime you moisten the paper so that the edge tears more easily where you want.
Yes economy, versatility, if you need that much paper. One drawback: paper will keep curling. Also nowadays most arts papers are produced primarily in rolls like this or larger, and then cut down into sheets at the factory. If you can buy a pack (50 sheets or more) it can be quite economical. On the other hand some of the best papers for watercolor and intaglio prints are still hand made and moulded directly as a sheet, that’s expensive.
Lovely day, even to see the long lines at the museums, but the treasure was the art store! Only one thing better is a book store. Thanks for taking us along.
Impressionism and expressionism. I went to the Sennelier shop in 2014 and really enjoyed wandering through it. Even back then, you had to pre-book museum tickets days or weeks ahead. I took a walking tour in Monmartre all about the historic art scene there. It was really interesting. Thanks for sharing your day in Paris.
Paris is indeed popular! I got into the museum a few days before filming, so I was blinded by my luck and never thought of booking the ticket 😂 Lesson learned. Thank you for watching ❤️
We are artists, our favourite part of the video by far was the visit to the art store. So glad you wouldn't/couldn't stand in line. Very creative solution makes your Paris visit video original. Thanks, Rick&Morgan
Your video is actually very interesting and don't simply rely on going to the Museums. Seeing the places they used to frequent and learning a bit from it is a different perspective and I quite enjoyed it. I personally love the Pre-Raphaelite era!
“Give me attention, cat!” The only spell that does not work no matter how poweful a wizard you are 😂 Great video! Merci! ❤ Do not feel sorry about the wait to get into the museums. That’s just how it is. Tourism has its downsides. No fail detected!
An afternoon outing to a sweet spot in Paris. Nicely presented. Even on an overcast day, which many people would find a bit depressing. But in fact days with gray skies remind me of my college days. At least half of them were spent in gloomy weather.
This was my favorite place in France. I so wish I had more time to visit shops and cemetary. It has such a unique ambience. Moulin Rouge was exciting. As our bus drove out I looked back and wished I could stay...
I made a pilgrimage to Sennelier's mothership when I went to Paris a few years ago. It was great. I bought a few watercolors using my best French and found it a great experience just being in the store.
I only use Sennelier- their oil pastels are superb as are their honeybinder watercolors! Love also their Acrylique Extra Fine. Great presentation, thank you! Kimberly
I shop at Sennelier when I have questions about a product or a technique. They only carry professional lines & they have expert advice. An American customer complained about waiting time to be helped. Well, lady, it is a small shop, ppl come for advice & not just filling their basket, it takes time to get around the over crowded place, you got expert advice & they did not push unnecessary products on you as they would have in one of the larger stores.
I enjoyed watching this so much, I have always wanted to visit Paris, and Monmatre has my heart, I adore the impressionists, as an artist, this video was just what I needed to watch today.
Not a fail at all. Loved seeing the districts & being made aware of lengthy queues. Good for you finding a treasure of a shop for art supplies. Glad you bought something for yourself. Great save.
I enjoyed your video immensely! Especially the art store. I work with large sheets of paper for my charcoal & pastel drawings of bobby pins, womens portraits, & corsets. That paper room would be heaven for me.
Thank you for this lovely stroll through Paris, my favorite of all cities! My favorite art is impressionist and post impressionist and I was delighted to see a Van Gogh Painting I’ve never seen before! (And I’ve seen many in person!)
I first went to Paris when I was an art student in the early 1990's and have been three or four times since then. Thank you for this lovely video which reminds me of some happy times wandering around Montmartre. Crazy queues for the museums though - sorry you didn't get to visit.
@@DottyDelightful that wasn't my experience but they are very fragile. Perhaps less pressure? I used to layer my strokes and use a medium to fix the layers before adding another layer of pastel.
Ahhh what a nice video! I knew I had to subscribe when you were sitting at the Consulat Cafe and you said „Im sitting here trying to feel impressionist 😂“ Love it! ❤
I loved this video and feel inspired to take a similar trip - especially because of the art store - so beautiful. Thank-you for sharing these experiences with us. :-)
I gift myself a few days in Paris last year and, after going to Musée d'Orsay, I walked to that very Sennelier shop and omg, the vibe was so awesome. An art shop as I always imagined an art shop should be ahah Even the super small and squeaky door was fab!! 😂
I loved this video! I really liked how you showed Paris in 2024 and then a painting of it from the 1800s. I would love to see more videos like this in France! J'apprends le français!
I love Monmartre and enjoyed this video very much. Especially the parts where you compare the paintings to what the places look like today, brilliant! Just a little fyi, many English words are the same as in French. Such as butte, agile, and assassin. In fact, I was told that about 30% of English words are also French words. Thanks for this enjoyable video!
Wow! I would love to go to Paris some day…..even though I don’t speak a word of French. It just looks so grand. That art store was AMAZING! I would spend all my money there.
I loved this video! Not a failure at all! Loved the tour of Montmartre and that art shop so close to the Louvre was out of this world. Thank you for taking us along ❤❤❤❤
I always look forward to your videos. Thank you for this! I love the Impressionists. I did a project on Renoir in High School. I fell in love! I do love more modern (50's - 80's) illustrative advertising art also. That gorgeous cat in the video! Looking forward to your next post x Nell.
Thanks! Loved the Sennilier store visit. Reminded me of Corneillsson in London. Have you been there? Highly recommend the staff are super helpful and nice. I will have to remember to get museum tickets ahead of my visit
I visited Cornelissen & Son last year (there's a video about it too)! Indeed similar vibe, though slightly more posh 😊 Thank you so much for your support ❤️ 🌹
What a lovely video!! Do you have any suggestions of impressionist books? Bonjour! I just stumbled on to this vlog. I realize you did this 4months ago! I shared with a friend who is off to live in France for a year! She is an artist also. Merci Beaucoup! I will keep an eye out for your future vlogs! Cheers
Ah this is very lovely and close to my heart. I also love the impressionist period and went to see all of Monets work whilst finding many other artists along the way. It is best to book your ticket in advance. But there is a Monet museum you could have gone to which didnt have such queues. It is slightly out of Paris. There is the van gogh museum in Amsterdam for a future videos 😊❤ oh monets house in Giverney..is very special

Used to live really close, this is kinda a memory trip, making me emotional I can never quite place where the Moulin is tho its very odd to me I know a bit about the Lapin Agile cause i overheard a tour guide lol, thats where a lot of dogs used to meet up and id join in with my brother as a child, they probably dont do it anymore. Apparently the name comes from "Lapin à gille" from what they said... oh it pas the guys name, cool

As an art student it was usual for us to use rolls of fabriano paper. We had large sections for our charcoal drawings.

My two favorite places, a art store, and Book store, and art museum, or museum of any kind, the people are interested.

I apologize for the ugly American. I promise never to be like that! Heading to Paris in one week and added this to my visit

I feel the same as well, lovely video can watch again.
I love how art shops smell, they should make a scented candle capturing that wonderful fragrance and I loved your video .
I loved this video! Thanks so much for taking us along with you❤

I was watching this video months ago like “oh nice” and now I’m watching it again as … oh I’m going there I need to add all of this to my trip list

Montmarte. I subscribed and am excited to watch your Tokyo adventure.

Thank you for touring me around paris, its my dream city! someday ill go there too :)
I went to art college in the 1980's and used Sennelier pastels . They were such a pleasure and the finest colours.
I got some and found they are flaky, any tips for using them?
