Dear dearest Old guy I would like to hug you tight! Your words really made me so happy! I'm self-taught and my teachers are the artists like you on UA-cam. I try to learn the techniques. I love looking at the works of artists of yesterday and today. I don't think I have my own style, but now with your words you have given me confidence. Thank you very much. @piera8207, keep going, your style is in the way you paint. It emerges as you go and is in a way, your own unique 'signature' because no one else has your perspective, skills, interests or ways of working. Try other ways, if you so choose, like copying/reproducing an old master (just once), to gain knowledge, ... be that colour or technique or composition, or just learning their process. You can then take what you like from that, and do it "your" way to see how you can use that as inspiration to add variety perhaps. Above all, have fun - this is the greatest key, because it WILL show in your work. I have been an artist for 35 years, took a break, but deep down it has called to my soul, so am about to get back into it again, ... a fresh new start. This time is going to be interesting, a new medium in oils, a new house with a new studio, and a renewed perspective on life and ideas for my work ... In one way, there is a little terror of the unknown, but the excitement to see what comes out, is the impetus, that is urging me excitingly onwards. Best of luck with your journey, and may you inspire & create masterpieces.
@L.U.AURIEL Thank you very much for these beautiful and encouraging words! Art, creativity are the best way to express yourself. Art is also therapeutic, it gives me so much joy and desire to live. I therefore wish you just as much happinessd and satisfaction. A warm greeting from Italy 👋👋👋🌹
I discovered you this morning and I am an instant subscriber. I have been painting in my head for at least 25 years, but my canvases stand blank in the closet. Paints dried up in tubs and tubes over the years. I am too afraid to make a "mistake" and show it to my eyes... Today (as special a day as any other) I listened to you, felt my spirit caressed and cared for, and I made my mission of the day to find just a little strand of courage. I decided to humour myself by filling the first page of an old abandoned (and blank) journal, with colour - any colour. Today I let myself be seen.
Hi Absolutely amazing...congratulations on your achievement. It doesn't matter so much what others think... the important thing is what you think, and we all have tried not to know how something will be received. So, take care of yourself and try to get started with the canvases that are inside the closet. Good luck
Your comment about a child painting without worrying whether the painting is good or bad, until an adult steps in rating their drawings, really hit home for me.. When I was a young girl I would draw and paint all the time, almost obsessively. One day, I went to give a drawing to my mother’s friend, only to be belittled by my mother, and told (in front of her friends), I needed to grow up and stop drawing stupid things all day. I felt so embarrassed and ashamed 😔 Until this day I still feel something is holding me back, even though I have paints, brushes, pencils, canvases etc.. Without sounding petty, I need to get over this hurdle as all I want to do is draw and paint again. Thank you for making this point in your video, much appreciated and something I hadn’t considered until now.
It was a very sad story you experienced. I don't remember if I myself have had similar experiences. In any case, the adults (including our parents) want to help us as much as they can. But they are often very bad at it, because a child will perceive things very differently, and defeat, when you show something you yourself have created, will often stay with us for many years. I often try to think that it is the defeats that make us strong, make us grow and reflect on our situation. You can't do that as a child, but as an adult, you can use it constructively. Try it if you can, it might bring you a styye through this obstacle that you have been carrying around for far too long. I wish you luck...and courage!

I am 67, too, and have been creating for over 30 years. I fell seriously ill and my work slowed down considerably. Two years ago I started up again, deisring to restart where I last left off. I came to the conclusion that paint was calling to me (I was an art dollmaker). So I retired my dolls and started painting! The last time I painted was in my twenties! Oh joy! So fun! Even creative problem-solving is fun! Even making a huge mess on the canvas or paper is fun.. my goodness, I am so happy when I paint. I remember one very positive thing from high school. AN art teacher caught me erasing a large area on a large drawing I was making. "Don't erase, make it work," she said. I still use that piece of advice today. All the best to you, Lollette!

Thank you so much. You have confirmed everything I have been thinking over the past few months. For years I wouldn't paint flowers for very much the same reasons you gave in the video. A couple of months ago, inspired by a family members flowers I decided to paint them and haven't stopped since. They are such a joyful subject. I am at the stage where my main desire is to make the painting i am working on better. I am learning lots and starting to develop my own process. Most of all I am loving painting (most of the time anyway!!!!) Gradually I am starting to see my own style emerge - to other artists out there keep painting and do be brave - good things will happen!

Hi Carmen and Hi Brazil. Hope everything is fine in your country and that your painting process is going as you want it to go. Thank you for your kind comment.
Your painting are brilliant and very unique. Love your work and the colour you use. I have started doing charcole and acrylic sketch's,just loving it. Since i have started painting i seeing all shades of sunset, clouds and and sceneries differently. I have decided that I will take pictures when I go for holiday's i will take pictures and then draw and paint them. Thank you for your 5 point advice, you have given me confidence that one day I will develop my own style and will be proud of it. Thank you for your informative video. Will follow you for inspiration. Bye for now.
Thank you, one for the sharing of your journey, two for the thoughtfulness of your reflection, and three for the vulnerability of your process. As I move from full time semantic worker to artist, I have been struggling with converting from feeling masterful to vulnerable. I can classify with the best of them, but is that line too thick, too orange… grrr. Thank you for the encouragement (even though you don’t know me) and the wack on the side of the head. You changed my perspective, now it is up to me to see what I can do with that!
Thank you very much for your very kind comment. I wish you the best of luck with your process in the future. Although the process can sometimes be frustrating, it is the immediate joy of painting that rules it all. I am very careful that this does not change. Kind regards Henrik
Hi and best regards to Las Vegas. I've heard it's very hot in LV, and I myself struggle a bit with the colors drying very quickly in the heat. How do you manage it? Thank you for the kind words.
What we learn and absorb in childhood will eventually be challenged as an adult. This is part of the process. It is also the process for many things- our relationships, career, hobbies, the way we think of and handle money. Thank you for identifying the art process and breaking it down into 5 chewable steps or phases. I appreciate your clear, concise, and simple method of teaching. I learn so much watching your videos!
Thank you for sharing your thoughts! It's true that our childhood experiences shape us, and I'm glad you found the breakdown helpful ... and yes fun and joy are the power behind lots of things in life.
It was extremely helpful thank you I have started late in life I paint all the time and have been evolving to develop my own style Your advice was very helpful thank you
Thank you so much for putting the time and effort into producing this wonderfully helpful video. I loved every minute. And much gratitude for all the examples peppered throughout the video. Yay for wonderful, genuine, helpful, inspiring artists!!! i look forward to watching more of your videos! Thank, you, thank you, thank you!
This was so helpful. I’ve become frustrated because I felt today that even though I’ve been productive I don’t have a lot to show, and have piles of incomplete work. I get tired of working on a painting and leave it alone- only learn that I can’t get back into it-
Thank you so very much for your inspiring words! I have been in a 10 month slump of not painting at all. After watching this video I can feel the creative juices starting to bubble up within me! Bless you for sharing your journey!
Thank you my dearest Old Guy. Your tutorial as always is very inspiring. I truly treasure your advice. I hope you keep coming to my screen bringing all the knowledge and guidance to me as an emerging artist who is still finding my style. I often have that kind of question when I was inspired by another artist’s work ‘inspired by or copying?’ Your video helped me rethink my approach 🙏💖🌻
Hi. Thank you, you are welcome. Regarding copying, I try to go for what is fun, and it is not fun for me to paint exactly like some one else. Take the inspirational part an make it your own ... that can be fun. God luck!
Just the video I needed for the stage I'm in now! I've done a couple of paintings that I really dislike, but I did learn from doing them. Can't wait to get into the studio again!
Thank you very much for your video! I started painting 5 years ago and am still finding my style as I explore different types of paint and processes, and so your advice is very helpful to me!
Very interesting video, thanks very much. I've been painting my whole life (on and off) and it brings great joy. I really like many of your paintings but the single image that captivated me the most was your granddaughter's painting of the family and when you zoomed in to her painting of you. It's great to see how a child views you and she did a really good job.
Thank you so much! Your videos are clear, honest and so very freeing as I have been stuck for a few months. You have given me hope, dear Old Guy, from a dear old gal. I will continue to watch and learn from your amazing videos, You are a gift.Again, Than you so very much.
Thank you so much for this timely advice. As a new painter, I have not yet figured out my style. I love very geometric designs with bold colors, but I also love softer, more organic designs so I have tried both. It's a mood thing, I think. I enjoy switching it up and experimenting. Keep the videos coming!❤
Thank u sooo much for made this video... you had gave me courage to overcome my failure on painting... in the past 6months I quit social media just for concentrate on practise my skill and learning, ur video made me feel positive again
I'm glad to hear that. When you paint, you should feel good, in my opinion. It may well be that it is difficult to find the way forward in a painting, but you should preferably grow a little when you paint, not become smaller. But it's when it's difficult and you don't quite know what to do that you become wiser. If it is absolutely impossible one day, put the painting aside and wait until tomorrow.
Thank you. I really enjoyed hearing about your art journey and the tips you shared. I am a beginner and currently intimidated, and you have inspired me to relax and have fun.

Van Goghs Iris and Sunflower works are incredible and some of the most moving works I’ve ever seen 😊

Oh .. thank you!
Great advice, thanks for sharing your words of wisdom through your years of knowledge and experience. Most helpful ❤
Thank you for watching.
Thank you for your words. I felt a great comfort listening to them. It will help me to pursuit 😊
Good luck ... and go for it! 👍
Thank you for sharing with us all your experiences and moments as an art painter. I love them . I am following you from Las Vegas Nevada. 🎉😊
Great advice! I really appreciate hearing these ideas reinforced. I so love your style and work. Thank you for sharing!
You are welcome.
I was encouraged and inspired by your channel. Thank you!

Thank, you, thank you, thank you!
You are so welcome.
This was so helpful. I’ve become frustrated because I felt today that even though I’ve been productive I don’t have a lot to show, and have piles of incomplete work. I get tired of working on a painting and leave it alone- only learn that I can’t get back into it-
Hi, don't give up. Painting should be fun ... not wear you down.
Glad my video could help.
Brilliant tips and advice for the journey of finding your Style. Thanks for sharing and inspiring us 🎨✏🌈😊
Nice to hear that my video has meant something good for you and your process.
I salute you for this courageous video ❤️
Thank you.
That’s very encouraging, thanks Mr. Old guy. But they are all good advice and very real in the art journey.
Thank you for this nice comment.
Thank you so very much for your inspiring words! I have been in a 10 month slump of not painting at all. After watching this video I can feel the creative juices starting to bubble up within me! Bless you for sharing your journey!
Hi ... yes get started again, nothing better than painting ... again after a break.
Never thought about trying to paint abstract art myself but your amazing work is certainly inspiring me to explore that!
Hi. That was a nice consequence of my video.
Good luck to you!
Thank you. Your artwork has inspired me to continue.
I'm glad to hear that.
Glad it was helpful!
This was so illuminating and inspiring
Hi. I am glad you found value in my video. Good luck.
I love your floral and tree painting style!
Hi. Thank you for watching and your kind comment.
Thank you very much for your video! I started painting 5 years ago and am still finding my style as I explore different types of paint and processes, and so your advice is very helpful to me!
I'm glad to hear that. Good luck with your process.
Hope you remember to have fun in the meantime.
Thank you for watching.
Thank you for sharing your journey. Your paintings are gorgeous! Your granddaughter resembles you. 🙂
Hi and thank you. Greetings from Denmark to you and your granddaughter.
Hi and thank you. I have passed on your comment about Klaras painting to her.
I just had a glance on your channel .. interesting!
Thank you so much! Your videos are clear, honest and so very freeing as I have been stuck for a few months. You have given me hope, dear Old Guy, from a dear old gal.
I will continue to watch and learn from your amazing videos, You are a gift.Again, Than you so very much.
Hi Aleta. Thank you for your kind words. Means a lot to me.
Go on with your experimenting ... and develop your style. Thank you for watching.
They use the painting process to live out their thoughts and fantasies. ..love that .

Hi
