For 6 years straight I have been logging for firewood. After felling the trees and bucking them up into splitting rounds I have to collect over 30 cord from all over the bush.
I have two axes that I dig into the rounds and carry them to the trailer.
Usually it takes me 8hrs a day for 2 months of constant carrying logs of various weights and sizes and distances over rocks and brush.
Then I split all 30 cord by hand for another 2 months.
I’ve put my dues in as far as farmers carry goes. Trip after trip through the brush probably 50 miles worth in total. Who knows…

Our bodies are made anatomically and evolutionarily to hang and climb. Not only do we not do that in the time that we live in but we are constantly doing movements like these carries, bending at the waist, picking up heavy things, sitting for hours Etc that compress the spine over and over! I've been a massage therapist for over 25 years and every single one of my clients I tell them every day they should be hanging from something at least a couple of times a day to not only stretch the Erectors the shoulders and arms but also to decompress the spine!!! We are, in fact, not designed for hanging. In fact we are designed to be on our feet and to carry things and to walk around with heavy things, that is the whole point of humans, our legs are simply too massive and our arms too small to be able to hang like how apes do. Also the best thing for back problems is to workout the muscles by picking up heavy things and carrying heavy things, this is the cure for back pain. Sure, spinal decompression might have some benefits (maybe) but they pale in comparison to simply exercising the muscles, which is done through picking heavy things up off the floor and "compressing" the spine, or in actuality, fatiguing the muscles.
What this person has identified as a source of back pain, namely, weight lifting, is in actuality the cure.

    • @Travishibachi87

Picking things up and carrying them is perfectly normal as long as the weight isn't too heavy and form/technique is sufficient. However, sitting too much can definitely cause problems. Sitting is not an ideal position for the spine and will start to deform ligaments and tendons within 20-30 minutes. If you want to be healthy move MORE! Doesn't matter how. Walking more steps throughout the day is an easy way to do this 👍

A person can also increment the dumbbells between every set, it adds up over time.

Do you mean dumbell shrugs but holding them at an angle out form the body? What is the point tough, is only to make it harder, would you not he tye same effect by holding heavier dumbells?

    Carry infront of you, too.
Something narrow and heavy, then something wide.
If you have a rope or chain witg clamps on ends, tie a few heavy plates together in a vertical position, or in a wide position.
If you have a bag of rice, or rocks, or full of plates, that can be turned to get both wide and thin grip, that too works.
You can even use logs vertical for thin grip and horizontal for wide. 🤫💪
