What % is your femur length based on the rest I show today? . Shout out @baileyhaslam_ & @ever_so_fit for the collaboration & @muscleandmotion for the amazing anatomy graphics!
27 / 78 = ~34.6% It was a struggle when I started because I would try to emulate much shorter lifters, with differing proportions. I now have to use a wide stance, low bar, and elevate heels (lifting shoes).
It’s really dumb that people feel like having that 1 extra inch is such a big deal. Especially because the imperial-unit system is so antiquated and tbh, even niche. I mean, what really is the difference between 1.80 meters and 1.82 meters lol. That being said, I can’t count the amount of times someone has told me I’m not 6’0, only to literally break out a measuring tape and be like “Oh I guess you are” lol. According to everyone, 6’0 doesn’t exist.
I was today years old when I found out my femurs are almost 33% 😮😮😮 Squats were always more comfortable when I took a wider stance. Makes so much sense now! ❤
Ive been hearing for a while femur length determines squat position but thought I was still just doing it wrong bc I have to lean so far forward. Turns out mine are almost 32% of my height 😂
Your channel has completely reconstructed my fitness journey and I can do way more than I ever could before. I had no idea some of the issues I was having until this and my exercises are SOOOO much more efficient
Hate squats, though I could lift a lot however my fb coach would always say I needed to go Ass to grass and I couldnt. I had to lean to far forward and that made it more of a good morning and painful with higher weights. Never considered this stance as everything was supposed to be the same for everyone back then or it was wrong 😅
Always wondered why I found squatting so disproportionately challenging compared to other lifts. I have a 31% for femur length. While I won't be squatting 300lb in my lifetime, this advice is much appreciated.
I feel seen. The coach at my gym would always tell me to not lean forward and be more upright but I just can't do it. 😢 I didn't what to do to correct my form. I guess there was nothing wrong with it to begin with. Thank you
My % length femur is 30%, and i always struggle to squat low, it hurts my knees when i try to increase weights... I will try those tips tonight, it's my leg day ☺️
I have both long femurs and ankle mobility restriction thanks to dance injuries (torn ligaments which healed with significant scar tissue). I've recently started squatting sumo and it's a game changer for me.
I've been watching you for 3 plus years I just want to say we the crowd appreciate your scientific support on out workouts it is very much appreciated my brother 💪
Please do a whole video about TIBIAS! I've seen so much stuff about how femur lenght affects but I've realized my problem is that my tibias are relatively very short compared to my femur and torso lenght. I struggle a lot with squats, and my deadlift starting position is very "squat like".
I assume we're measuring hip joint to kneecap while seated? If so that puts me at 25-26%. I always assumed I had shorter femurs because squats are my best lift.
Im 6’2 and my femur length is about 23 inches which is about 31% percent, which makes sense because I recently changed my squat form to have a really wide stance to alleviate pain
mine are roughly 33% (depends where you take the hip end point). With shit ankle mobility, no wonder that I look like gollum squating down. Also I am 5'11" as well and my torso is really long... I must have tiny shinbones lol
my knees make a cracking sound when I get up from a deep squat. I tried doing 20 deep squats to see if the sound would stop. I tried multiple to do it in multiple ways but the cracking happened each time, I stood up. Feet wide and not wide. pointing toe in and out. Mix My friend joked that I have unlimited bubbles in my knees. 😂
Lol my legs are definitely longer then my torso, this made me feel better about my squat form. I adjusted cause it just felt better then what i was told proper form was.
Omg thank you so much for this video...I have longer femur and my torso is kinda short (I can almost hide behind my legs during deep squat)...my coach always keeps telling me to correct my form and stay upright...Imma show him this video lol
I think trainers should take this into consideration first instead of forcing all of their clients to squat more upright . This is why I personally hated back squats . I will try this out , thank you!
Does longer femurs also effect your deadlifts? I tend to struggle a lot and put load on my lower back a lot during deadlifts and a bit less during squats
It might just be a form issue. I have trouble with squats, but fine with deadlifts. Make sure you really engage your lats when deadlifting, that helps.
Its crazy too because the girl on the left looks noticably shorter because of her femur length/ muscle mass, whereas the girl on the right looks a good deal taller due to having longer femurs and being leaner. Cool how these things work
I want to come back to this just so I can make a calculator for the most optimal spot is so that you can squat with the perfect bar path while maintaining the same angle of flexion. It may take a little bit but after I do it I’ll make sure to put it under my comment so that other people can use it.
I havent measured but i think i v likely have over 25%. Ive only recently found my squat position and i def had to widen my stance. Now i can go ass to floor 💪🏽
I had no idea my femurs were so long proportionally. I just measured and it's ~33% of my height. No wonder I feel way more comfortable with a wide stance. In a wide stance I can go ass to the grass and maintain balance no problem, with a narrow stance I struggle with balance.
i had an old X ray of my leg, so measured my femur, calculated the size in the right scale and i got 45cm instead of the previous 48~50cm i was measuring with the tape, so instead of 31% i'm actually at 28%
Taking a wider stance should only be taken if your hips allow it. It’s all well and good saying for longer femurs do this but if the hips don’t allow for it then don’t do it
What % is your femur length based on the rest I show today?
.

33.8% (25” / 74”)
No wonder switching to low bar made such a difference in comfort and max.
33 %, always wondered I can't be "upright" like they always say you should be in workout videos I use...
34% 176 cm h and 60 cm femur. Thanks for the video explaining this!
I did the calculation and got 31.4% and yes I do feel like it is challenging maintaining myself upright while doing a barbell back squat.
27 / 78 = ~34.6%
It was a struggle when I started because I would try to emulate much shorter lifters, with differing proportions. I now have to use a wide stance, low bar, and elevate heels (lifting shoes).
Dr Aaron is the type of honest guy to say 5'11" 😊
Yeah he honestly looks quite tall in his videos,i see a lot of people who claim being so tall and yet they are much shorter
It’s really dumb that people feel like having that 1 extra inch is such a big deal. Especially because the imperial-unit system is so antiquated and tbh, even niche. I mean, what really is the difference between 1.80 meters and 1.82 meters lol.

@Lonelywarmsoul well I'm 5'9
So how to make them longer
@@GameN3rdz you're average height i think

This channel saves lives.
Duh
Yet, he can't keep getting away with it 😢😊😂🍑🤣
I'm at 31% and used to hate squats. But with the wider stance and a slightly elevated heel their fine and I start to like em.
Your channel has completely reconstructed my fitness journey and I can do way more than I ever could before. I had no idea some of the issues I was having until this and my exercises are SOOOO much more efficient
and the info is free!!! insane
My femours are 32%! No wonder I been working so hard on mobility but still have a slight lean forward. I'll try the wider stance, thank you so much :)
Back Squats have always been difficult for me and front squats have always felt more comfortable.
This explains why.
Same here

300 lbs is definitely achievable
Same I have always struggled with squats my femur length is 32%
I feel seen. The coach at my gym would always tell me to not lean forward and be more upright but I just can't do it. 😢 I didn't what to do to correct my form. I guess there was nothing wrong with it to begin with. Thank you
Thought so. 33%. Squat always feels a bit awkward in the very deep range of motion, but I still love squats.
My % length femur is 30%, and i always struggle to squat low, it hurts my knees when i try to increase weights... I will try those tips tonight, it's my leg day ☺️

Outstanding information 💯💪🏼
Thanks for having us 🙏🏼💕
Nice squats
Thanks for the valuable information 😊
My femur makes up 35% of my height. Makes sense why I am horrible with squats.
It's just a skill issue
Wider squats and low bar allow you to be better
You can stil learn to squat proper
Fellas I have a decent squat. It’s 1.5x my body weight for 3 reps. It just took an insane amount of effort compared to a lot of people I know.
Mine are 33 lol and i also have a very bad squat
im a tall girlie and i needed this, thanks!
And I'm relatively short for a guy, but my femurs are 33%, which finally explains why I don't like back squats
This explains so much thank you!!!
The 3D animation guy is thick af.
Thank you for this.

Wow. I’m 5’2 and I have the same femur length as Dr Aaron. 😳
I'm 31%, as well as terrible ankle mobility. Explains why whenever I try to follow the advice to keep heels on the floor I topple over backwards
Hahahaha, I am super short, but my femur is longer than average 😂😂. I'm am thankful for the hight through my femur! My torso is so short.
Yay! Go Tori! 😍
31%. I wasn't sure whether or not it was considered a long femur but wider stance and leaning forward was always best. I know why now
Wow! this is really great info!
mine are roughly 33% (depends where you take the hip end point).

189 cm and 57 femur. Thats why i like front squats
SO interesting. You r the Best 🤝❤️🫂

Omg my femur length is 29%! Thank you for this!
I’m glad I have a new reason to tell people why I suck atsquats 😂
I think trainers should take this into consideration first instead of forcing all of their clients to squat more upright . This is why I personally hated back squats . I will try this out , thank you!
No butt wink at the bottom of the squat is a sign of superior squat form in my eyes
Love the happy ending
Its crazy too because the girl on the left looks noticably shorter because of her femur length/ muscle mass, whereas the girl on the right looks a good deal taller due to having longer femurs and being leaner. Cool how these things work
What about Zercher squats instead of front squats? I could never get front squats right, but Zercher squats are easier
I love zerchers. Did them with a pin yesterday for first time. Got up to 300
@MrPretty20 I started doing them as I got a disc herniation from back squats
@@farisakhtar4824 tbh I don’t think people talk about them because they’re hard af
Please do a video on snapping triceps syndrome
Could provide the details (author, name, year) of the paper pls?
Knowing about femur length is a game changer
Superb video
I was always told to hinge the hips when squatting. That causes me to lean more. Im also 6'5
I want to come back to this just so I can make a calculator for the most optimal spot is so that you can squat with the perfect bar path while maintaining the same angle of flexion.
It may take a little bit but after I do it I’ll make sure to put it under my comment so that other people can use it.
Im at 28% and hate squats. I do front barbell squats to help balance
Whopping 36% oh god, all of that makes sense now
Is there anything to do with the length of arms and push ups?
31%, I used to Squat wide stance but now I Squat with narrow stance
The formula isn't working or maybe i've measured my femur wrong, because my legs are quite long
If I do any type of squat what so ever, my knees pop like crazy and feels like they could give out. Wish I had stronger knees…
I remember so clearly in high school being told to keep my chest up. Like dude any more up and I’ll fall backward. I have very long femurs.
Yes! I was gaslit by trainers over the years about my squat form...my femurs are at 34%.....no wonder!!!!
Mine are about 30 %, Goblin squat all the way 😂
30% here and always had to use a wider stance!
Oh we have the same height and femur length doctor!
Who said math wouldnt be used in the real world again? 😂
Got it, use the hack squat machine
How does femur length affect pistol squats?
Have really long femur but can squad with up right torso! Work on your mobility and technique, so you don’t have to justify why you squat sucks
How do i accurately measure my femur? Mid of the knee to widest part of the hip?
I’m 30% omg! I wondered why I couldn’t squat so upright like others do
Damn my hip to knee (femur length) is 24.5 inches and I'm only 5'5" or 65 inches. That puts mine at over 37%. My torso is quite short.
Omg I’m 32% which makes sense why I like to lean into my squat, I can go lower and I am a terrestrial profile, which also makes sense
where are you guys measuing from because i have long legs and feel so uncomfortable back squatting but only got 26% when measuring from my hip joint?
Delavier wrote that 10 years ago, where is your credits
When measuring the femur you measure from your butt to knee?
Like this comment if your also 5’11’’!
Brother you are amazing ❤
what about tibia length percentage? Many variations possible
mine is 34% and i'm really good at squats, pretty close stance as well
weird
also i hate front squats
22 inch femur, 5'4"
what does this mean
I havent measured but i think i v likely have over 25%. Ive only recently found my squat position and i def had to widen my stance. Now i can go ass to floor 💪🏽
I had no idea my femurs were so long proportionally. I just measured and it's ~33% of my height. No wonder I feel way more comfortable with a wide stance. In a wide stance I can go ass to the grass and maintain balance no problem, with a narrow stance I struggle with balance.

Can somebody link the study pls?
And then there are people telling shit like "your position has to be like..." Or "the feet need to be accurate to front..."
Yes my legs are longer than my torso and have long femurs. I have to take a wider stance and turn my toes out a bit to squat comfortably
I have short legs 😢
thanks for listening to my spam comments about going wider
He can’t keep getting away with this
Taking a wider stance should only be taken if your hips allow it. It’s all well and good saying for longer femurs do this but if the hips don’t allow for it then don’t do it
Do you wonder if that length affected your choice to become a physical trainer?
My femur is around %30 and I am 5 foot 5 and 15 struggling big time with my squats
Different squat to move the world 🌍🌍😲... 🎶
Both girls look great squatting..
And look hot.. 🥵
No wonder tom platz squats looked picture perfect.
Mine look like I'm doing rdl's with my back.
Fascinating
I'm 5'1, and my femurs make up about 32% of my height. I knew my legs were long but golly that's a lot...lol.
5`11 curse😂
How does one accommodate for having 1 femur longer than the other?
