    Chechnya is Russia’s achilles heel. In 1991, the comparatively small mountainous constituent republic, situated in the far South of what is now the Russian federation, broke away from the Soviet Union and the then Russian Soviet Socialist Republic, and after beating back Russian forces in the first Chechen war from 1994 to 1996, would become defacto independent until the year 2000.
    Following the collapse of the Soviet Union, the prospect of Chechen independence was disastrous for Russian geostrategists. Were Chechnya to gain independence from the Russian federation, it could trigger a domino effect of other nominally Russian republics with their own distinct cultural and ethnic identities declaring independence from the Russia.
    After the second Chechen war, Russia would put an end to this domino threat, retaking control of Chechnya and keeping the conflict under wraps ever since.
    However, despite relative stability in the North Caucasus in recent years, and particularly in the context of events in Ukraine, were an adversarial state to stir up trouble in Chechnya, it could cause Russia real problems.

    Hi, I'm from this region (can't call it Chechnya). I will use a translator as I don't know English well.
    People in the comments are mistaken, thinking that we are now on the side of Russia, but this is not so. You cannot speak out against Russia, Kadyrov and his lies.
    This is a place where you can literally be tortured to death in the most cruel and humiliating ways. This is a place where if you refuse to go to the front in Ukraine, they can send your older relatives (father, uncle).
    Kadyrovtsy is a kind of punitive detachments, rather than soldiers for combat operations. Ramzan promised 10,000 soldiers to Ukraine, but in fact withdrew the majority in case a riot starts here. Another reason is that in the first days of the war, at least 60 soldiers who were considered among his best (fought on the side of Assad in Syria) were easily killed by a Ukrainian UAV ( You must have seen how bayraktar destroyed a convoy with trucks, there were Chechens). Tushaev (his general) died the same week. [Edit: Tushaev is alive, but he's not in Ukraine anymore]
    The civilian Chechen "volunteers" (who were in prison) are sent to the front lines like cannon fodder. When Russian artillery and aviation clear settlements, Kadyrov’s best fighters enter there, with the modern rifles, best equipment, American Obscure helmets (lol), to show off on camera for propaganda (for Ramzan’s PR), pretending that the losses are minimal and they are the most superb.
    The supporters of Ichkeria are fighting for Ukraine (three battalions as more of our soldiers died in the second war). Two of them have been there since 2014.
    For us, the biggest problem is that if we start an uprising, we will not only fight with the Kadyrovites, but also with Russia, which means that we will probably again lose a large part of our population from Russian aviation and MLRS

    • @boycehar9594
      @boycehar9594 Рік тому +249

      During the first war, the West did not help us, but considered this war "Russia's internal affair." Therefore, it is ridiculous to read comments about how our fighters fought allegedly because of the West lol. The West helped the Russians with humanitarian aid while we were starving because of the war.

    When Chechnya was somewhat independent, it committed many acts of terrorism, funded rebellions in other places and was effectively led by warlords, while persecuting and expelling Russian citizens leading to Chechnya's industry and businesses effectively collapsed. Russia is by no means a very good country politically, but Chechens should not be seen as heroes just because they fought against Russia.
