Inside Chechnya | Russia's Most Infamous Republic (NOT what we expected!)

- Welcome to Grozny, the capital of Chechnya (Chechen Republic). The Chechen Republic is a Muslim majority autonomous republic in the North Caucasus region of Russia. Unfortunately it is better known for the conflicts of the 1990's and early 2000's, which earnt Gronzy the title of 'the most destroyed city on earth'. Despite the stigma, and the Foreign Office warnings, the Chechnya of today is much changed from the one that hit the headlines a couple of decades back. We went in to get a look at real life in Chechnya and find out what Russia's most infamous republic is really like.

I'm sure the outskirts of town still bare scars of the wars but glad to see this much progress has been made and that normal life is happening there.
It is beautiful but the war will affect the yearly budget from Moscow to Grozny. They have had a comfortable period with huge yearly budgets allocated by Moscow, but that will change. They will have to change their economy, without the tens of billions from Moscow to finance the facade
Hi can you tell us about dadaev ? He was good or bad

Humans have access to a literal thousand times the wealth as we had pre-industrial revolution, in terms of KW, Calories, whatever.
So we have enough energy available to survive (and then some) X 1000.
So if you aren't making 1000x more money than you need to pay your basic needs, your money is being taken somewhere.....and cities can rebuild so so fast simply all that wealth inside a destroyed city goes to rebuilding the city because whatever political structure was squandering that wealth before is temporarily gone.
This is truly eye-opening. Thank you so much for sharing your journeys!
This city sure looks (from what I’ve seen) a lot more cleaner and modern and fancier than a few America cities that I’m most familiar with

Me with my wife visited Chechnya in a week long trip in may 2023. We were there for the first time in our lives and also none of us have ancestors from there so it was a bit creepy. The only thing that helped me to think of the region as about a good one is my homie that is Chechen: he is very kind and restrained and... so polite u know. So after the trip we got maybe not in their religion and history that is obviously too huge to wrap in a week of learning it through field trips but into their, what we call it, lifestyle. Like being polite, calm and respectful. And what made us surprised too was that they don't have any alcohol beverages in markets, when we got used to our alcoholic russian mentality with drinkers and alcomarkets everywhere, chechens drink a lot of sodas and spark waters (thankfully to the Caucasus with its springs of water). And also they turned to be a very sporty nation, like now we got why Chechens as well as Dagestan nations are so strong men with good stamina and overall health parameters

It seems so surreal after the 2 Chechen wars that the city is vibrant and full of life. Also, the long tragic history of the Chechen people shows how resilient, strong, and tough as a nation but deep sadness and emptiness as well for the lost generation for that didn't make it during the war. It makes Timur Mucrayev's songs out of place in today's Chechnya, unlike during the climax of the wars, perhaps peace is best for all.
deep sadness and emptiness because of the communist Pussia filth occupation which is supported by the outside World
Mucuraevs song won't ever be out of place, because they are amasing from a musical perspective, no matter what he sings about, and his voice is a beautiful phenomenon. They will always be unbelievably popular in the postsoviet countries, even amongst the most chechenophobic russians
I remember, one time I talked with a Russian vet who was a very, very agressive and cruel person, probably a psychopath. He keeped on braging about how he k*led chechen civilians, even kids, and how he enjoyed it. I used plagin to find all his comments on UA-cam - and amongst neo-nazi comments under the videos of skinheads beating up non-russians and other chauvinistic bulls.t, I found his comment under the Mutsuraev anti-russian song - and you know what? 😂 He was like "There are such a chechens! I adore Mucuraev, even so I'm a russian" - APHAPAHAPAHA 😂
That's how a music works. No matter how you hate anything, if you like music - you will melt
looks sterile, and dark to be honest
Timur Mucuraev 👍
So sad to see this homeland of heroes so dull today. So few people on the streets, posters of control freaks everywhere; it seems the spirit has died… But believe one day these man of great valors will rise again and regain their independence…
Do you want to destroy the city again? You're like rabid dogs
War war and more war. The people of Chechnya today don’t want war or independence. What happened during those years of de facto independence were traumatizing for these people. You are sick
@Iva K Угомонись, террорист.
Only a misanthropist and a complete scumbag can spread nonsense about an uprising! The entire economy of Chechnya is tied to Russia, the independence of such a small republic without industrial potential means poverty, impoverishment, a breeding ground for terrorism and radical Islam.
Rise from what??? They are live in peace now and you want them to suffer???
Maa shaa Allah,
Chechnya Very beautiful
The rebuilding of Grozny has been incredible since the wars ended.
It still kind of puts off a vibe like volgograd or berlin where you feel a little unsettled knowing what happened there once upon a time
@Iva K right, here comes the western moralizer that leveled Lybia, Syria, Iraq, Somalia, and ethnically cleansed millions, to preach the usual how russians bad, mrite?
@Iva K take your agenda to wherever you are from and preach it to the homeless in your streets
@Iva K 300k? According to human rights watch it was 100,000 civilians dead in the first war and 80,000 dead in the second war of which not all were done by Russia you jihadist
@Iva K libya and afghan have never been rebuilt

Don't go there. Wallah

You guys are awesome as a travelling couple. A real inspiration to me, as a curantly, independant aussie abroad in South East asia. Bravo.
2:40 - это точно пешеходный переход, а не фойе в музее?) Грозный великолепен!
Точно пешеходный переход)))
Точнее подземный пешеходный переход

It’s made me want to visit
Take a look how clean the city looks. It’s more safer than most western cities.
Beautiful video...❤
Amazing how much work was done since the destruction.
It looks really nice with a good energy.
Russia is a beauty! What a contradiction from the European side of it. Peace from Malaysia 🇲🇾
Russia isnt beautiful, putin insulted ALLAH, but russia still best, isnt it? Nobody cares about malaysia indonesia iran russia fanboys
@@dupendechoPutin?.. when did he?.. He was the one who helped to reconstruct Grozny, and as for Russia, there are so many mosques all over it, being Russia a Christian country...
@@user-jz2mo1em9r he build grozny up, after he destroyed it in the second chechen war. 4 mosques in moscow, wow, really much! Unbelievable!
Love to Malaysia, thanks for watching ❤️
@@MattandJulia Thank you guys. Means a lot! ❤️
The high-end look of the cafes could be due to their all being rebuilt in the past 10 years. When I worked in Germany, I was praising the layout of the centre of Frankfurt to my German coworkers when theY politely informed me there was a good reason for the meticulous layout...
Yes, the entire centre is a new build x
The war has nothing to do with the café interior. Most of the restaurants in Russia look like this even if the outside is deteriorating unlike Grozny. With the amount of small businesses, particularly in the food industry, you'll simply start losing costumers if you won't do refurbishments with posh interiors every 5 or so years.
ACTUALLY EVEN IF YOU GO TO YAKUTIA...THE COLDEST PLACE ON RUSSIA THE RESTAURANT THERE IS ALSO LIKE THAT...ITS JUST A REMNANT OF SOVIET STYLE RESTAURANT CULTURE
Beautiful places..nice people .thanks for this video..one day I wanna visit this places....
