I showed the ENTP-D type to Katherine Fauvre and she related to it very much and she asked me to pass that on as a compliment to Dario.
I never got around to it but Dario, if you're reading this...there you go.
“Give them the space in the workshop of the mind!!” Absolutely perfect explanation of the process.
The cultural aspects are an important and often missing piece of type. Many times role, career and culture will dictate observed behaviors and explain the nuances we see but cannot quite articulate.
I have used the computer metaphor in training as well:
RAM is short term memory - (Experiences that may or may not stay with you. You must process it in some way to keep it)
HARD DRIVE Your hard drive stores the actual data until you deliberately write over it - (Nurture)
ROM means there is not way to change it at all for example CD ROM which is written and finalized (Nature)
Joyce, you should probably interview this person one day. Sabrina is an INTJ in education and research and knows about type but also various learning styles. She's been on Ben's channel a few times as well
This is a fascinating conversation. I'm now understanding myself more through these subtypes and I genuinely believe i'm the harmonizing subtype. I can be the others, like I can be more normalizing in a work environment, but I definitely gravitate toward the harmonizing.
Excellent to hear, Michelle! Harmonizing matches really well with Enneagram 9.
Wow. Exciting stuff coming ;)
You know it! :)
HOW THE HELL DID YOU GET HIM HERE ?! His book is amazing and a step in the right direction for providing proof of the validity of MBTI
Personality hacker community.
Joyce works her ass off, that's how.
How do you take one of his brain tests?
What Dario mentioned hit me hard, that there has always been nature and nurture. However I have noticed that all my nurtures and squared teachings from school had to be broken down and alot of it reformed and molded together with nature more so later in the years to give me that feeling of coming back to myself, if that makes any sense.
I always been a person that felt more for nature and having that above nurture. A force of nature that always search for innovative ways and ideas, and truly question already existing patterns, rules and norms etc.
Would love to talk more. Also looking forward for more amazing episodes like this Joyce.
Thanks Dario for jumping on here! Such inspiring insights.

Awesome to hear about how nature & nurture has shaped who you are! An interesting share.
The number of times that I went, 'ooh, yes! I can totally connect that with...', was many many times. I absolutely loved the scientific slant on types. I am always connecting what I learn about people and what I consider about genetics/cultural variations/expectations in the environment and so on. SO it was a delight to listen to this!
I am a strong believer that a type predisposition is heavily affected by the person's environment. And also how interesting at the end about brain 'switching off', I really struggle to switch off my brain when I am really stressed esp. It's really frustrating. I would love to be naturally good at flipping the switch and falling asleep! Anyway, many thanks! :)
I think I found my new favorite channel
Awesome to hear. 🙂
Love love love! Thank you from my heart and head, and every variant therein 🥰 Connection with the All, the myriad, the kaleidoscope, macro and micro 😁❤️ Happy ENFP 💜 going to share to Facebook groups, especially mixed type group MBTI Coffeehouse 🖖🙏😎💫
I very much appreciate you sharing the video, @Verity Oliver! Many thanks!! 🙂
@@JoyceMeng22 I greatly appreciate you bringing diversity together, we are fascinating. Thank you 😊 xxx
Dario works are amazing. Ps: loved the example choices.
Agreed! Happy you enjoyed the examples, Samuel. :)
Where can I get info on Dario’s work on 64 subtypes? I scanned his books in Amazon but none listed this portion.
I'm INTJ-T 5w4 and almost definitely the creative subtype. I've got high dopamine (COMT met/met variant). I'm thrilled to see the neurotransmitters being correlated with subtypes. Totally on board with this theory. Also...Joyce, your laughter is like sunshine and rainbows. I just had to say that.
This is neat. Now I want to get my brain scanned. Sounds fun!
Yeah! It's quite the temptation to be brain scanned by Dario.
This is fascinating stuff! It may explain why we sometimes think that we have more in common with one type than another, but it's not always the same type. Maybe we are relating to one of these variants or subtypes that all types can have to some degree. I need to look into this more.
Update: I read some articles about the Dominant, Creative, Normalizing and Harmonizing subtypes or variants. The video is very interesting, but sometimes reading about something at my own pace really helps me grasp it better than just listening to people talk about it. After reading these articles, it makes sense now why I don't totally identify with the INTJ base type, yet I identify with it more than I do with the other personality types. It could be that I'm in the Harmonizing variant of the INTJ, sometimes to the extent that I behave and think more like an INFJ. Yet at the same time, I don't go as far as the stereotypical INFJ does when it comes to focusing on feelings. It's like I'm somewhere in between an INTJ and an INFJ on a spectrum. Not as goal driven and relentless as an INTJ, yet not as highly emotional and people pleasing as an INFJ. If I'm an INFJ, I'd be of the Creative variant - like an INFJ, but eccentrically different from the stereotypical one.
Such a good video! So many interesting theories/possibilities and visual explanations.
Yeah, there were a lot of 'aha' moments here, and new theories presented in this video. Thank you for watching,
Alexander!
Around 16m or so, I can't help to nitpick: What you say makes sense, but has nothing to do with ROM: ROM is write-limited, some can't ever be written to (they're manufactured as-is), others only after getting erased by UV light. Others (most, today, probably) are actually NAND flashes and only called ROM because of inertia and they do not ever get written to unless you're doing maintenance on the system (e.g. flashing the BIOS).
In the brain analogy, ROM would be more on the genomic to instinctual level. The term you're looking for for the extraverted/intraverted distinction is volatile vs. non-volatile storage (from the hardware perspective) or ephemeral vs. persistent (from the software, that is, logical, side). If you want to say "things can't be deleted" that's append-only storage. That's a logical term because applying it to hardware would necessarily be a lie (no matter how intricate the write protection of a piece of hardware, you can always get out a sledgehammer or such to erase it)
This is such a great breakdown. Thank you
Thank you!! I didn't know this.
Would you consider exploring how early childhood trauma impacts a person's type?
Good question! Trauma can definitely make people harder to type. It would be interesting to see someone exploring this topic in more depth.
For Ne doms (thinking about myself) it’s not an “Act and then reflect” it’s a “Make the connection between things” and then reflect. :-).
Can you share a new link for the slides please?
Thank you for this! I constantly wondered why culture wasn't discussed with typing.
This was very interesting, I'm always interested in variation for any pattern, theme or form. Thanks for having him on, Joyce
Thank you. Your support is always massively appreciated, Dominic!
@@JoyceMeng22 no problem girl, keep doing you
So strange, I’ve always thought of introverts as having a lot of executive function, almost over drive compared to extroverts. But this makes so much sense, the introverts are processing it into their occipital visual memories and it makes it’s way to decision land after that. Wow, this also explains how some of my own processing needs to happen externally and you can see my process externally… not always but I’ll use other people to use their functions as well as mine to think things through. Yesssss the description of there being the overall in the moment processing with another processing and imagination going on always in the background too plus the low grade anxiety constantly processing the future and connecting those pieces. We learned about the visual cortex development for cognition in my speech therapy degree and language development was my favorite subject. In my nursing career, I saw really interesting processing in different personality types in emergencies and traumas etc. Thinking and feeling are so interesting when brains experience trauma and stress. It’s so different and just humans are insanely marvelous and just so so both fragile and strong. Learning different approaches of how we are wired together helps me to understand and care for others so much more since I can then know how they may be perceiving the world and processing it. We all just want and need to be seen and the more we know, the more people can be seen when they need it.

Has Dario commented on if the subtypes correlate with high / low numbers from the MBTI test?
For the passionate creator infj.. What does Dario mean when he says that they have dense auditory links?
Thicker wiring around the auditory regions of the brain, I imagine.
So, better personal listeners than other INFJs, more xNFP-like
@@jonathancampbell5231 thank you so much for your answer, it helps alot! 😊
The four subtypes seem to line up with the four temperaments of choleric, sanguine, melancholic and phlegmatic?
Fantastic Interview.
Thank you both.
Thanks for listening!
This was so interesting, thank you both so much! Re: the part on energy consumption by the brain - as a lead Ti user I can exhaust myself chewing on new information and theories, to the point where I have trouble falling asleep. I recently got into meditation because of it, but I‘m still struggling to find a method that works for me. It seems like my brain is both already exhausted and yet too active and bouncy to effectively calm down. Sound meditation or journaling seems promising though, just to get to a point where my brain is calm enough and receptive to meditation.
This interview made me kind of jealous of high Te users in that regard :D
Fascinating! Thank you for sharing.
I also know ENFPs who have trouble sleeping, whereas their sleep problems come from their hyperactive Ne. It's interesting how the same kind of issue can be caused by a variety of different factors.
@@JoyceMeng22 Yeah, well my Ne aux certainly doesn’t help the situation, that’s for sure. And I would say that my Si plays a huge part in it as well. Both keep bringing up thoughts that my Ti will dutifully look at and even if I try not to engage with them, they stay around until I do. Maybe that’s the difference between having a judging vs a perceiving function as your dominant? For lead Ne it would be more stream of consciousness and lead Ti can’t help but engage with them.
Often in those situations I also have a song stuck in my head that is looping in the background and that just adds to the chaos. I’m attributing that to Si, though I haven’t heard any theories on how earworms might relate to cognitive functions.
Very interesting research.
I’m wondering what the brain scans would show up for the 5-8 functions (shadows). For ex, I’m an INTJ (Ni Te Fi Se). How my brain would light up hearing a Si question (how do you remember your childhood?). If I’m a normalizing INTJ, the scans are going to show up differently than an INTJ harmonizing subtype? (or the scans would look closer to a harmonizing/creative ISTJ?). Do they overlap types?
I need to read the book. Great work, Dario!
I just had a repair done on my Jeep. As an ISTP It pained me that I didn't have the extremely expensive computer and scope to do it myself, but I also am logical enough to cut my losses.
It's a 4 bay shop with a number of mechanics, and owned by an older mechanic.
It is not at all absurd to think that everyone in the shop is an ISTP. In fact, I'd bet 20 bucks they all are.
This may not always be true, but it's not absurd. Like God, I know my own.
This is so fascinating
Precisely, it adds a whole new dimension
So good! About to rewatch about 3 more times lol!
Very, very interesting. This explains why there are so many types of ESFJ like myself and why I don't like to use the "OPS" system or Vultology to type people in hindsight. Dario's theories make more sense.
I'm definitely the "Harmonizer" ESFJ type as the "Imaginative Mimic" and "Factual Storekeeper". Great video Joyce, it's amazing how you got an interview with him! 🤗🤗🤗
Holy Crap, you’ve got Dario coming on?!!!! Go Joyce Go!!! Also, whoah I’m gonna love watching this tiny amazing INFJ wrangle the ENTP all over the place genius into some what I know will be amazing breakdowns of the mind…. This is like a rock concert for Mbti this is exciting!!! 😀🥰😍🥹🙌🏼🙌🏼🙌🏼🙌🏼🙌🏼🙌🏼🙌🏼🙌🏼🙌🏼😃. Actually ENTP is he an ENFP I totally forget his type, but I remember his lectures amazing jumps amazing!!

I’m sorry I’m just here for the infj content 😭😹❤️🔥
I think the question of whether there are other functions or that we can't all be 16 types only or are you putting me in a box makes no sense. Simply look at the functions , they are very very basic : sensing , intution , thinking , feeling ( + introversion and extroversion in exchange for balance making 8 COGNITIVE functions ) and we all do all and we need no body to tell is that . If you try to come up with other functions they will definitely be taken from these 4 somehow you can't get out of them and then you will be mixing nature with nurture and making it more complicated and then really putting people in boxes , and if you did it once then logically speaking you should continue this chain untill you come up with 8 billion types cause everybody knows each individual is a type on their own . To break the common system of jungian psychology you should come up with a fifth COGNITIVE process that is as primary and pure as thinking or sensing and that we do but still not aware of , other than that tha question should be how we can identify nature + nurture using one system of functions to know where exactly we are in the growing journey rather than do it in 2 steps : identifying nature alone then nurture ( or cognitive focuses or subtypes ) alone , not whether there are other PRIMARY functions or not ( although this question is healthy but it's not usually what they mean ) . And if we do that , still , having PRIMARILY only 16 types or 8 functions is not weird or illogical.
🤯
Mind blown, indeed.
Hes got that jordan peterson-esque voice and dress style
This make me feel that esfps are good left brainers
So ENTJs basically don't think unless they have to? 🤣lmao ouch. It hurts because it's true. lol
ISFP creative artist..not exciting like ESTP 👍
