Hugo and Sania are national treasures. I discovered this channel only a few days ago and I’ve been addicted watching the video catalogue. Hugo, I’ve always been into men’s style, but you and your wife have convinced me to step my game up and get my first 2 made-to-measure suits. It’s nice to see there is a community like this on UA-cam.
Agreed on buttoning shirt on a hangar. I only button the top one and use all the same hangar--Brooks Brother's black plastic men's shirt hangars--I bought dozens of their made-to-measure non-iron shirts over the last 10 years, and every one of them I asked for the hanger and they gave me one. Everything in a straight line is very satisfying! My tie organization is still a work in progress though...
In addition to shoe trees, I like to store my shoes in clear boxes (container store has great ones). As a shoe addict, it’s so nice to see them all displayed in my closet and easy to find the pair I desire for the day.
Recently I bought two tie racks. Once I placed my ties on the pegs, what wonderful feeling came over me. There they were, all visible at a glance and quite secure. So satisfying.
I love ironing too. Put on an interesting tv or UA-cam channel and work through my stuff. It’s also satisfying in a way as it is different from my daily job that uses mostly the brain and less hand.
Wow, Hugo, with this combination of glasses, wide lapel jacket and shirt you really achieve to revive the very best of generous, positive 1970s spirit without giving a feel of false nostalgia. Impressive, inspiring and not easy to do. Thanks for the very interesting talk as well!
Okay, this is going to be interesting. I'm posting before even watching the video. I'm in the process of trying to figure out an organization or design for my closets and wardrobe. I'm REALLY glad you're covering this. I'll restart the video now, thank you!
Hello Sonya and Hugo. Greetings from Toronto. I thought you would be interested to know that my 91 year old neighbour's father was the Benson in London's Benson, Perry and Whitley on Cork Street who had some celebrity clients including Ian Fleming.
I love this video! It's sort of funny but also a nice guide. I am an organization MASTER. Well, I just got fed up with spending money on items to replace because I kept losing them or wasting time looking for them. Then after a while, organization just became a way of life. I also read a book on organization that was based on feng shui (I didn't even have to look that up) in which it talks about energy flow from being organized. For me, it makes a REAL difference. Everything feels calmer. No chaotic energy. But you also know..... Organization can be seen as a form of control over your environment. There is a point where things go to far... I think shoe organization is the one I have some fun with. As a fairly typical New Yorker, space is at a premium and you have to come up with ideas to be efficient with it. I keep all my shoes in their boxes. If they are shoes that will benefit from shoe trees, they have them. While I have a shoe rack, I have too many shoes to fit them all on a single shelf. So the top shelf get stacked. And I have to organize the 'Shoe Box Statue' so when I remove a box, the structure doesn't collapse. Or I just slide another box in it's place to keep the structure intact. It may sound kind of funny... But that's me. My little mind game in the morning. I don't have so many shoes that I have to try to remember which are which. Just one brand where I have two pairs and the boxes look exactly the same. Or, print a little picture and tape it to the front. I know people who do that. Sorry for the long post. For me, being organized has helped me so much over the years to help keep my sanity with my typical, super-busy schedule. At the very least, it will help you in the algorithm 😊
Excellent tips ,,,,Thank you both of your dedicated effort, and both of you look amazing ,,,and i loved the your scarf my dear Sonya,,,,Love to you from Cairo.
Great podcast! And I have to say it, this suit jacket is fabulous! It kind of matches the colour of lips. And with that bold stripe shirt - what a combo!!! Sonya is looking her best too, so elegant.
I absolutely adore the two of you. You are both delightful and have taught us so much. I do really wish to see what you do wear when you are relaxed, at home, or in the countryside, beach and other occasions where you are necessitated to wear more casual clothes.
Such needed wisdom...!! I have to be honest, I find ironing and shoe polishing to be very therapeutic, especially when I'm feeling a little stressed...!! You both look absolutely fantastic, such complimentary colours, both to yourselves and to each other...!!
S hooks from the kitchen store work for hanging denims. And ladies’ bra dividers for drawers also work well for men’s underpants. I find ironing once a weekend therapeutic (pity you didn’t mention buying a shirt sleeve, steamer and shoulder pad which are cheap to get and easily obtainable on Amazon). And finally, storing woollens and casual shirts folded and kept upright in boxes on shelves in the Marie Condo style is fantastic for maximising space and making selection easy.
Thanks Walter. We know space is a problem, but there are a few ideas in this episode that can be useful even with limited space. Have a wonderful weekend! Hugo & Sonya
I actually have two drawers dedicated to socks. My fall/winter socks in one drawer and my spring/summer socks. I’m kind of OCD so I have four drawers for belts separated by color, and four for ties separated by season, three shelves for pocket squares and closets for suits and sports coats by season. I have a question... Living in Queensland Australia where the climate is hot and humid pretty much three months of the year. Is it wise to keep your beautiful suits in garment bags? Particularly during the summer months which is when it appears moths are most active? Thank you...
Good evening Hugo and Sonya, another great video from you two and thank you so much, however I must say fortunately for me I inherited the organisation for my wardrobe from a child and carried it through into adult life, and I must say you are both one hundred percent Wright with all of your advice, thank you sartorial talks, kind regards Ryan.
I became green with envy when Hugo was talking about ironing and about shoe polishing. Also, you didn't mention using lavender to keep away moths (if it works) and you did not mention closet size which is a problem in cities nowadays. Thanks for a great video.
Dear Douglas, lavender probably works, but we haven't had experience using it. As for the size of the closet, that's another subject altogether. All our best, Hugo & Sonya
Points for me to work on, get shoes off the floor, a set of wooden shoe trees for each, I probably only have a third. Take my suits out of the suit bags and brush them. That tie hanger is a must for me to buy. Buy some more wooden hangers. Oh lose the weight I gained from a year indoors from COVID Restrictions so I can fit in to my best clothes again!!! Keep up the great work.

It would be very interesting to see how a tailor cleans a suit. In my location as in much of the world there is simply no laundry sufficiently skilled to trust with a suit. I use either a hot damp cloth or boar's hair brush for all but the most serious cleaning. Cheers
I'm watching this while my Sunday shoe shine :) Thank you for this great episode. What do you think about cedar hangers for your suits (it should repel the moths)?
Glasses in the freezer - because Sonia wears seriously cool shades! ;-) My Dad once searched for his specs for over an hour, eventually he asked me if I had seen them, "Yes Dad, they're on top of your forehead!"
Thanks for all those tips Hugo and Sonya. How do you recommend cleaning a suit/jacket that is dirty? I'm thinking about those late night weddings where you will inevitably end up with some stains here and there. Thanks!

Dear Sonya and Hugo, just a little hint for the cedarwood… grind it a littlebit once in a while; the odor comes back and it works even better against our friends, the moth…
Sunday is the day of ironing, and twice a month shoe polishing. I have little space for my clothes, small house means I have to keep myself tidy. If I don't it becomes a nightmare, with clothes everywhere.
Surprisingly mind changing conversation, but need help with brands with no-iron shirts, in North America, the majority are always in a rush getting ready in the morning, in general is it lazy to find time to iron shirts weekly or time saving to opt out for those no-iron alternative
Dear friend, to be honest we are not big fans of no-iron shirts as they are "finished" with formaldehyde (which is a heavy chemical). We prefer normal shirts that require ironing. All our best, Hugo
@@SARTORIALTALKS thank you Hugo, it's amazing to get a direct reply from you, I like your show, but I think my generation is having a hard time understanding the purpose of ties, when you have buttons now to hold your shirt... I understand the polishing boots because it's meditative
Tip for avoiding orphan socks: buy the same pair by the dozen. Downside: you have to save them up to wash them all at once to avoid colour differences.
I wish France's Jean-Yves Le Drian of the Quai d'Orsay stumbled upon one of these videos where Hugo graces Bonnet spectacles. Mr Le Drian is certainly a man of taste as well but nonetheless, since he seems to like his catchy eyewear collection, i am sure he would love to try something from Hugo's taste too since Hugo's is as important as his' is subjectively important. By the way, i love Mr Le Drian's suits and ties and i can imagine him in a Bonnet masterpiece ; what elegance it would finally be.
Dear Antoine, Mr Le Drian (our Secretary of State in France) was not very well known by the broad public (even in France) until last week and the infamous submarines crisis. I agree about his spectacles. All my best, Hugo
"There are channels of people who are literally obsessional people and masters of organization... this is not our subject today." Marie Kondo has left the chat.
My father wouldn't let my mother anywhere near his dress shirts, he had his own method which he taught me (yoke first, then collar....) Also, with trousers, my father had a mantra handing them from the hem "seam to seam and pleat to pleat"
I’m single so all my 4 wardrobe closest space are mine. One closets just have dress pants and suits hanged. Other closest have just dress & casual shirts, ties hanged up, belts hanged up. Got one those cedar hangers to hang lots of ties on as well all my many belts. Other closest have all newer stuff. Last closest have just regular cloth hanged up on one half of it. Rest is for dress cloth I’ve worn at least once. So all my other closets are all clean stuff. I invested in few hundred cedar hangars to hang everything for trousers, shirts and suits. It did take lots of effort to organize closets but was worth the effort. Donated all the cloth stuff I no longer wear or too small to Good Will store.
i still remember when my wife was my young girlfriend . i was serving in the military and we planned a 4 day trip to the pyrenees .. you should have seen her face when i pulled up with an ironing board and iron in the back seat of my car ….. hard learned habits die hard
Hello thanks for the video ! I'd like you to tell me if you know good european houses/websites for women who want to refine their style "the sartorial way" with good quality products for tops, shirts, dresses and suits. There's so much offer that it's very hard to filter the good ones from the bad ones, and most good websites I know are dedicated to men and have a very small women's clothes offer. Thanks in advance !
Dear Eddy, we often receive this question and we must admit they are very few ressources on the web for ladies classic style. But we are working on it. Stay tuned, Cheers, Hugo & Sonya
There are a lot of good quality hangers producers out there. Kirby Allison has been a pioneer for suits and jackets hangers (with different shoulder sizes). All our best, Hugo
"remember I'm just French" said in a thick French accent. Hugo, no native English speaker needs you to tell them you are French. We can hear it dripping in your manner of speaking.
Dear Dukhi, moths is a universal problem for sartorialists. And I don't even know if a real radical solution exists (we tried a lot of different ones). Cedar hangers and sprays are, so far, the best solution we know (especially if you want to avoid toxic chemical products). Cheers, Hugo & Sonya
Listen Mr. Jacome, you should be ashamed of yourself that you don’t like the ritual of shoe cleaning and polishing!!! You like expensive shoes but you think the creme universelle is enough!!! Usted me ha decepcionado!!!!!
😂😂, Who said I don't like this ritual except you? I like to shine my shoes, but I'm probably not as extreme as some gentlemen who spend hours during the weekend to shine their beloved shoes. All my best, (and no, I'm not ashamed 😅😅). Hugo

I have little space for my clothes, small house means I have to keep myself tidy. If I don't it becomes a nightmare, with clothes everywhere.
Excellent point about how available space and level of organization correlate. Hugo and Sonya
A bientôt
Also love ironing haha :)
Welcome in the club Shamus! Hugo
Tip for avoiding orphan socks: buy the same pair by the dozen. Downside: you have to save them up to wash them all at once to avoid colour differences.
I tend to hang any shirt with a collar.
MD I fold jeans.
Love the advice! Will there be more content on your Patreon in the coming weeks /months?
Yes Mario, we are preparing a podcast (bimonthly) for our Patrons. The first episode will be online very soon on Patreon ! Cheers, Hugo
@@SARTORIALTALKS thank you sir. All my best.
"There are channels of people who are literally obsessional people and masters of organization... this is not our subject today." Marie Kondo has left the chat.
I don't know Marie Kondo. Is she an organisation wizard? Cheers, Hugo
My father wouldn't let my mother anywhere near his dress shirts, he had his own method which he taught me (yoke first, then collar....)
Also, with trousers, my father had a mantra handing them from the hem "seam to seam and pleat to pleat"
I like the 'seam to seam and pleat to pleat' suggestion, in order to stay on track. I'm sure your mother didn't complain, ha!
Thanks ! Hugo
I found the sock organizer on Amazon
Excellent news, I'll have a look. Sonya
Wow, thank you very much for sharing your experience. Best, Hugo & Sonya
Just today I buy wardrobe dedicated special for my shirts;)
Excellent Maciej ! Hugo & Sonya
@@SARTORIALTALKS Cheers;)
Ask Joan Crawford about wire clothes hangers.
i still remember when my wife was my young girlfriend .
i was serving in the military and we planned a 4 day trip to the pyrenees ..
you should have seen her face when i pulled up with an ironing board and iron in the back seat of my car …..
hard learned habits die hard
Hello thanks for the video ! I'd like you to tell me if you know good european houses/websites for women who want to refine their style "the sartorial way" with good quality products for tops, shirts, dresses and suits. There's so much offer that it's very hard to filter the good ones from the bad ones, and most good websites I know are dedicated to men and have a very small women's clothes offer. Thanks in advance !
Dear Eddy, we often receive this question and we must admit they are very few ressources on the web for ladies classic style. But we are working on it. Stay tuned, Cheers, Hugo & Sonya
Great timing for me because I have a lot of clothes in my closet

Conquer the shirts first and the rest should follow. Cheers ! Sonya & Hugo
@@SARTORIALTALKS Thanks for the reply and the info
Are there any well known producers of high quality hangers?
There are a lot of good quality hangers producers out there. Kirby Allison has been a pioneer for suits and jackets hangers (with different shoulder sizes). All our best, Hugo
If you always loose your glasses that means you don’t need glasses :) I cannot imagine myself not remembering where I put my glasses. I would be blind
My wife Is just like Sonya 😂, she put the car and the house's keys in the freezer.
😂😂, it's to keep them fresh Sergio! Cheers, Hugo
Organised chaos, you see.
"remember I'm just French" said in a thick French accent. Hugo, no native English speaker needs you to tell them you are French. We can hear it dripping in your manner of speaking.
👋🏻
First
Of course you are 🤩!
My main worry is moths
Dear Dukhi, moths is a universal problem for sartorialists. And I don't even know if a real radical solution exists (we tried a lot of different ones). Cedar hangers and sprays are, so far, the best solution we know (especially if you want to avoid toxic chemical products). Cheers, Hugo & Sonya
I‘m not worried about them… they are all eaten up by the mice 🤣
Hugo
I just love your vlogs! I taught my husband to iron and he now irons better than I do! It is indeed meditative
