Something a bit different here folks, this is for the growing number of you who want to know what app I use ect. So I figured I’d give you good lesson on the lot. Back to the normal videos soon, I’ve got some crackers in the works.
Hi Rob - what a wonderfully informative video! We love living vicariously through your adventures! I must say the map and overlays of The List is an amazing resource! 🤩 Anyone visiting your awesome home of Tasmania should have a look at this. Looking forward to all your future adventures. 💕
Nice work Rob empowering people with the 'secret' sauce. As
@Steve_59 says
"Amazing knowledge dump, you deserve so much more respect from the authorities. If they had half a brain they would make you an ambassador for tourism. Mate, I wish you all the best."
BTW I've already sent it to some friends planning an end of year wander in Tassie. Thanks.
That was awesome! I’m from California and I want to do the same here. This gives me the confidence and roadmap to getting started. Thanks my brother keep making your videos they are done wonderfully, you’re awesome, thanks Rob. 🤙🏽
Rob, have said it before but sincerely appreciate the videos you produce, the time and effort with editing etc. Living on the mainland, you have shown me the beauty of Tasmania. ❤
Awesome info Rob🙂
Amazing knowledge dump, you deserve so much more respect from the authorities. If they had half a brain they would make you an ambassador for tourism. Mate, I wish you all the best.
Cheers.
I can't express the same sense of gratitude with words so I'm going to say "what he said" and point all hypothetical fingers away from myself
Absolutely spot on Rob. Let the wild remain wild so that people can enjoy the real thing rather than the "civilized" and expensive versions that are presented via shiny publications in travel agencies.
Im so glad that 30 years ago we took our kids through the Ballroom Forest, to Dove lake and down the chain below the Cradle. Nothing will convince me that building a viewing station will replace that.
This is how someone with a healthy mind responds to the unfair treatment you have received. Very clever and great video.
Why your government doesn't get behind someone like yourself with regards to tourism is baffling Rob.
All the best with what you're doing 🙏
Rob, your tools, techniques and awareness will serve many people; not just people interested in trekking Tasmania.
Hey Rob, great info thanks- you should also print out the section of map and laminate it with a cheap Kmart laminator. Gaia GPS app and website is great for creating printable areas
I overlay the UTM grid on the printed version which is easy to do in Gaia, and I have my Garmin Inreach which can give me UTM coordinates for the current location.
This acts as a backup GPS system in case my phone is damaged
Then I also carry a compass of course so the printed map can be used in conjunction with that
Heard you on ABC radio this morning and its very obvious Parks Tasmania are after you and are only interested in their rip off Disneyland projects.
Keep your head up and keep fighting.
Love you videos. One tip for all hikers, day trip to multiple days. Take a PLB. It could save your life.
Hi Rob, well done, agree with the comments below. Heard you on mornings last week. The National Parks should be working with you and not against you. SO much more could be achieved by combining your minds and energy. Stay focused and dont let the bastards beat you
A beautiful place, imposing, quite a challenge
Great guide Rob. The difference nowdays with google earth and such is so much easier than the good old 1:25000 topo map checks. When i walked and paddled the west more regularly there were no phones and just physical maps. We are so spoilt nowdays, imagine the days before maps at all. The early explorers are still my heroes.
Loved the way you told the truth about exploitation. This is one of the reasons you can't fly drones. The people viewing the footage will revolt when they see it being clear felled. Keep up the good work mate. National parks staff really do think they are the owners. not the custodians.
Amazing work Rob! My Grandad has a book launch tomorrow, it's about the South West!
Wow! What is your Grandad’s name?

G'day Rob, we love your work mate & the magnificent way that you promote your home state. We have wanted to travel & explore Tassie for some time now, mainly due to your
simply stunning & informative videos plus I visited Tassie back in 1978 while serving in the Navy. Unfortunately we have decided to scrub/delete Tassie from our travel plans,
due to the large number of well & not so well known YT channels promoting Tassie in a not very welcoming way, so sadly we are going to give the state a miss.
Anyway we can still see heaps just watching your great content mate.
Rob, I don't know if you have ever watched Bjorn Andreas bull Hansen who has a few channels in Sweden. Right up your alley. A must watch. Cheers, Lu from Tasmania
Greetings from the topside Mr Parsons. Just stopped by to thank you again for sharing both your knowledge and your adventures. Good on you mate!
reciprocal saws not only cut locks but can cut gates in half too.
Loving the adapt and overcome inspired strategy mate.
This is great thanks Rob 👍 I didn’t know you could search the type of vegetation on List Maps. Will definitely start to try and broaden my horizons with looking for trails outside of National Parks where I can.
Great work. Terrific follow up after the ABC interview today.
Very helpful. A short video packed with actionable advice 👍🏻. Would love to see on how you handle wildlife / bugs etc - Thanks
I'm glad you showed this, I wasnt aware just how much work you put into planning your adventures. I'm too old to explore these places and love that you takes us all on the journey with you. 😊
Wow, very interesting. Will return.
Great info Rob , thanks for sharing the beautiful scenes of Tassie !!
Really interesting about using the different map layers I didn't know about thanks for sharing this stuff from Sydney
Thanks for the list of tools and the explanation. The SW of Tassie is fantastic and your tools make exploring safer and they open Tas for people who have put it in the too hard basket. Great for my next venture into Bathurst Harbour, my all time favourite place in the world. Thanks for sharing your experiences and knowledge.
Our amazing backyard belongs to the people not Parks to exploit! Thanks for the tips Rob, love your work buddy 👍
Tasmania is a special place .This kind of mapping could save lives .Cruise ships are bringing in cash .The parks should make sure the money is used to better the people of tasmania .Environmental biology studies are pushing to make money .Seeking those in business that wish to produce better buy back outcomes .You have so much to offer tasmania .We all do .we just have to work together .So much pressure is on parks staff .Watched a young lady working for parks trying to stop bird smuggling .Put you hand up and let us all work together .We have something great in this state .Vote out the bad eggs .Remember how our parks started .
Thanks Rob, great to see you sharing how to use the system without having to pay the BS money for something that we pay for anyway in taxes
Hi Rob thanks for the. Heads Up. We're are bit long in the tooth for long treks but that info could be very helpful in many ways to everyone. Cheers and thanks for another great video 😉🖖
Thanks for this sharing of knowledge Rob. Greatly appreciated
Love what you're doing. Keep up the excellent work, this is the type of instructional video that I need
Thanks Rob.
Andy
Great video thanks Rob - particularly the vegetation and topography in the app👍😎
Great video Rob. Good to see that you are using the same apps i am (as in i am glad that i am on the right track). You did however teach me some extra things in there that i did not know. Appreciate your commitment to us viewers. Cheers Jason
Very cool, I'm on the other side of the planet. And wheelchair bound, got hit on my Harley, but I can dream!
Excellent video Rob keep up the good work. Especially exposing the liars and the politicians. These videos that you're creating are positive and not combative to the politicians but they hit like an ICBM. Keep it up. Peace
Thanks Rob. I have been using the Avanza app also and appreciated your education. It was would be nice to see a full review of this app as I find the map selection in the ‘shop’ a bit clunky’.
The government website was new to me and the vegetation maps most useful.
I would like to offer my thoughts on the NP but will do so when time allows along side the appropriate video.
Cheers and thanks for your work.
It's good that you share your tips, tech, and back up tools. Most probably save a life or two. Thank you for sharing Rob. 👍
Thanks very much Rob for sharing these tech tips for safe orienteering. Let’s keep standards high, common sense will prevail!
Great advice Rob, especially researching vegetation types at home. It can save alot of pain. How do you keep up battery supply for mobile phones to continuously create a track? Being old school, I use map and compass and a GPS with 1 set of AA batteries for a 2 week off track walk. Marking waypoints on GPS every hour records my progress, route and position verification.
You probably want a little more than that for a 2 week trek? That seems a little bit light weight for a trek?
Awesome info Rob i already use Avenza here in Victoria and have for the past 10 years. You should be awarded for your passion and love of all things Tasmanian, a great ambassador for our southerly neighbour! BIG thumbs up mate and keep up your great work and vision.
Thanks heaps for the kind words Diana.
Great video, thanks Rob. Happy hikes!!
Excellent & helpful advice that can be applied almost anywhere. Thank you Rob.
Hi Rob, thanks for sharing your strategies. Love the one about the vegetation. That's the one that usually catches us unprepared :-).
Cheers Rob.
Nice mate. Cool that you have lidar. Haven't been able to find any lidar imagery for Vic.
Thank you Rob!
Top job bro I get asked this a lot and I don’t use any tech, don’t trust it , batteries go flat. Paper maps ,compass that’s me .there already flat pack away in minimal space and it’s what I’m used too.but I study the grey scale contours on Tas maps and plot my points on those maps accordingly, experience and many years of doing this helps too .hav a good weekend bro talk soon 🤟
Fascinating, thanks for sharing Rob! 👍
Fantastic and on point as always Rob
Excellent Rob! Very informative and responsible! Keep up the good work! Perhaps some info on compass and maps skills for those times when technology fails 😉
Very interesting Rob, I always wondered how you chose your routes and the planning that went into your various videos. Really informative and I'm sure that plenty of people will follow your sound advice.
Super interesting, thanks for sharing . I have been winging it for years (and still love total immersion) but this is exciting to plan, track and explore more! Thanks again Rob
Always useful Information.
What an excellent video! Thanks.
Cool guide, Rob. Look forward to using that app next month 😊
Great video, easy to follow. Thank you
Thanks for the Inspo Roby! Absolutely brilliant. Keep rockin!
Great video Rob … even ordered a couple of shirts 🙌
Hello Rob, I have been watching many of your videos and I find them to be very inspirational. I am sorry to hear that you have run into so much government regulation in regards to your fantastic film making. I believe that some regulation of tourists coming to Tasmania is possibly needed but I don't believe that applying this same level of regulation to its own citizens is in order. Your videos showing the beauty of Tasmania truly make me want to come there. Please keep up the good work, Paul
thanks for the great info and inspiration1
Outstanding info
Thanks for sharing
🙏❤️🌲
Great video and information. Thanks
Great info Rob welldone
Thanks Rob every little bit of info helps. You may even save a life..cheers 👌👍🙂
Some bloody good info in here mate! I'll be sure to re watch this video when the time arises for me to get out and explore! Thanks heaps for sharing!
Gee thanks Rob, things have advanced a lot and i think time for a bit more bush bashing. I used to like being dropped off on the SW coast somewhere and spend a couple of weeks making my way solo back to civilization. Most of the time i was actually lost, did have an old Garmin and photocopy's of topographic maps but still hard to work out where you actually were. I agree that in Tassie and the rest of Australia just don't go to popular areas, the best stuff is under the radar and no one to tell you off or say what you can or can not do. I only hope not to many people follow this course but as most are sheep they have no idea another world exists. Any way thanks for your content and great videos. I did take a small HD cams once but i was so busy surviving i hardly used it.
ListMap is not to be underestimated. I use this all the time. Do not discount the old maps either. There are features shown on those maps that are simply not included on the new ones.
It’s also worth noting, Tasmania is deadly if you go off track. It should not be done lightly.
Love your content mate keep it up !!! :)
FANTASTIC info mate , was hoping you would provide extra help for newbies.
gives me some ideas for when me and a mate of mine go for hikes
Awesome info, cheers 👍👍
Thank you for showing us a good alternative to those new money grabbing infrastructures. Truely disgusting what's happening but you 're the proof not all is lost.
Thanks Rob, I'll definitely be using these tools.
A good vid, mate. Well done 👍🏻
Thanks for that Rob, brilliant video
This information is just fantastic. I always wondered how you manage to get yourself through all those places you visit
Much appreciated 👍🏼😁
Same country as New Zealand
Great vid 👍
Thanks for sharing some of your secrets of navigation.....that only works good if you have good signal on the cellphone, eh? Wish we could have that good of signals here in the USA sometimes......good job, Rob
Great vid Rob, very informative!
Sticking to pws at the start🤙 nice one!
Brilliant rob, can’t have the powers rule is 👍
I understand what your doing 👍
Great info Rob.Thanks. Keep up the fight.
I have watched 20 seconds and it a great video
awesome work mate. any chance you'd know what to use in south east Qld. they're locking gate up here too.
nice mate!!
Nice, was good to watch
Nice one Rob 👏
Keep up the good work mate 👍
Love your work . Keep it up !
Great work again mate 👍
Solid vid, good advice.
Awesome video. I use OnX here in the States for my adventures, usually out there for 60-100 days a year here in N. Idaho. One problem I have with OnX is the satellite images don't update with changes such as forest fires, logging, etc as often as needed. Some areas still show images that are 5 plus years old. Do you run into this problem in Tasmania? Our Forest Service is constantly changing access to our land, gating roads, digging roads up, not maintaining trails, etc so things get tough when we cannot get there in a practical fashion and increase hiker density to the fringe land.
Great content as always
Hi, the list will export a geo referenced pdf. Avensa will import this. Choose the area, scale, and map type you need Cheers
🔥🔥
I love hearing you hate on the greedy government lmao. Small govs CAN be pushed around, build up a storm and get your revenge, make sure it is sweet. And definitely be petty.
