RIP Ironically he has been said to have been one of the last surviving grunge icons (minus perl jam but they are diet grunge at best). He also was one of the more musically proficient of the bunch and I don't think he gets the credit, maybe he will now. This is also fucked because they were on tour and still on the grind, there could have been another record in the future.
What the fuck does that have to do with anything? Travis is a complete drug head! At least Todd and Jessie could play. Todd was and is a great acoustic player and taught music for a while in Louisville KY at Moms music, I knew him. Travis is a waste of space and out of his mind, has been for a long time now!
buminbeer2 Dude, Travis Meeks is a lost soul, he is a good guy when he's not on drugs, calling him a waste of space is uncalled for, the guy needs help and support, he doesn't need to be kicked while he is down, it's very sad what happened to him and he is a very talented guy
Id ask him so many other questions about how cool life and being able to pay all your bills and watch your kids grow, and NOT "how come you are the only guy still alive from the grunge era that hasn't committed suicide"
Chris is a good example of how the real greats are gracious and humble, hilarious how the interviewer keeps trying insinuate that rock stars live's matter (more) and how Chris so subtly but obviously disagrees that they matter anymore than anyone else
Chris, so sorry you came to our city and had to deal with this jerk. Unfortunate that he wasted your time with ridiculous questions instead of thanking you for 30 years of amazing music and continuing to write, sing, and perform. Thanks for all that you do and for the truly epic show last week. You are soooooo appreciated by your real fans.
Chris Cornell is a saint for putting up with this guy. He answers the questions with great answers that he knows goes right over the interviewers head. Chris Cornell is a consumate reader and student. Society and it's preset cliches has a grey film over most of the music world , that is seldom ''got'' and understood by all. And that is a good thing. Most people will live their entire lives with society controlling their thoughts and opinions regarding most if not all aspects of their lives. Free thinkers are a very valued lot. Drugs and drink affects everyone in life. Rock stars shouldn't be valued more than everyday people. Tradgedy is the same ,loss of human life is the same. Personal choice is really what can heal addiction. Music as a philosophy can do a lot to help as well.
God I miss Chris's bluntness, his down-to-earth nature. He was always that one guy in the scene who was somewhat removed from the trifles of fame and drug culture. Everyone around him seemed desperate to identify trends and categories and he was the only one willing to look at life for what it was, and acknowledge that things JUST HAPPEN, no matter who/when/where you are. RIP, brother. Thanks for the music. We can only hope that the media respects your philosophy when it came to glorification of the dead.
I cannot get over the fact the interviewer LITERALLY asks Chris if it 'blows his mind' that he's one of the last standing 90's grunge artists who hasn't committed suicide... ArE YOu KIDdiNG ME. What a heartbreak, man.
When I was 17 years old I got kicked in the head by Chris Cornell. It was 1991 and I was at a club in Houston. During Soundgarden's set he dived into the crowd and I was in the wrong place at the wrong time. I later got to meet him and Kim as they were walking to their bus. An experience I will never forget.
Seriously! It was almost as if he were absolutely hell-bent on getting his point of view to be the "correct" one when the other was far more realistic.
I only liked this video for Chris's thoughtful responses. No one is immune to substance abuse or mental illness, and a death is sad regardless of the person's fame. Weird questions from the interviewer dude...
Why is this guy so confrontational to Chris? Chris's opinion was different than his and he just kept asking the same questions hoping Chris will agree with him.
+Generation Films That's kinda what I was noticing. That and the fact that he basically cut off Chris entirely a few times to voice his own opinion. The interview was a nice look at how motivated and humble Chris is.
Generation Films well said. this 30 year old IDIOT was clearly not remotely even prepared to conduct a proper interview with anyone! seemed like he was coked up or had to go to the men's room?!? Chris was poised and carried himself very well. He has probably met far too many who call themselves "journakists"...& figured he'd give the kid a chance. Just shows how laid back Chris was. RIP C C Too, anyone could tell something was very wrong at his last performance!!!!! Someone should have been next to him entire time!!!!! There was a lot going on it was so clear!!!!!! Shadow Disorder he’s a dick he wasted that time with one our generations greatest and keeps on harping on the drug issue I grew up on his music I can think of so many things to ask him and keep him engaged and really have a once in a lifetime opportunity
+Brad Smith Oh yeah, this interview was merely tolerated by Chris I'm sure, who the fuck wants to hang an interview on the drug aspect of rock 'n' roll, what a fuckin' dick! Kudos to Chris for holding this together during this drab.
This interview makes me realize how tough it can being a musician and having to be interviewed by pushy pricks with an agenda like this obnoxious rude guy for instance. Chris handled him properly, way better than I would have. I understand that interviewers sometimes need to push a little to get artists to open up, but there's a limit and this guy is going way too far, it's rude. I'm gonna avoid this channel from now on.
I usually scroll through the comments and see people say what you posted...and think their just trying to "troll" on the Internet. but spot on man, this guy's fuckin horrible. I felt uncomfortable watching this lol
Catherine Roe Gehring yeah. And Cornell got that. Unfortunately your comment wasn't one of truth but one to demean and bring him down to your unsatisfactory level in life.
Jesus, you guys are ridiculous. Behind any fame or talent, there's still just a normal person under there. I think Chris is someone who was more humble and had his ego less altered by fame than many. I hate when fans end up being the elitists while the people they stand up for are/were down to earth and easy going. Self-entitled shits. You know what? You are not Chris Cornell, so don't speak for him.
about two months ago i started watching old Soundgarden videos, I have mostly listened to Pearl Jam and seen them live a few times from that era, vs, no code, yield binaural,,etc..but my good friend introduced me to fell on black days back in 96 97 and have always appreciated chris's vocals from temple and radio play, some early audio slave in 05...anyways what i'm getting at is that this man rest his soul, is very thoughtful and seemed to understand how to encourage those who might be assuming of a certain thought process...when he talks about being productive and what is the true meaning of life and living in music it just inspires me to keep writing and playing no matter how bad things seem..just has great words of wisdom and I wish his family and friends could know how much respect and genuine feeling of loss i have had for the past three weeks. Before I read all these thoughts, I was listening to this also cringing & grinding my teeth. Even said out loud ( was doing dishes), wtf kind of question is that? Yet this mr dressup interviewer ask even dumber stuff. Actually, sorry mr dressup, you were cool.
mac a doo how can you say that about Eddie Vedder when you dont personally know him. You didn't know Chris until you saw this video. Not trying to down talk you man nothing but peace and love but we don't know Eddie Vedder personally and there was a reason him and Chris were good friends and Chris let him in his life.
This guy is is Cornell's biggest fan....He is as giddy as a school girl.....Cut the guy some slack....He fucking loves this guy....He talks about him all the time.
This just doesn't make any sense. 8 interviews in and i have yet to sense any demons. The guy comes off as a friendly, intelligent, caring, HAPPY fella in every.. single.. one. But then you start to dig into the lyrics and some cracks appear. Still nothing as blatant as "I hate myself and want to die" (rumored joke song i know) Or Layne's story in almost every song. I am stunned we are here.
@@joshuafult84yeah and he even played that lame. He could of thrown out Green River, Mother Love Bone, Mud Honey, Tad, etc if he wanted to go down the 'Im not like the other grunge fans' route. Instead he just named off the big 4 but swapped Nirvana with STP.
lost many many friends to heroin in last 2 years record number overdoses ,never thought it be like this in eastern ky. im addict myself but meth and H had flooded us
Few interviewers have ever angered and annoyed me as much as this one just did. I mean seriously? Could he not have shut up and let Chris speak -- and oh, I don't know, maybe actually LISTENED to him -- instead of repeatedly interrupting him? Ugh. In spite of that, though, Chris still managed to say SO much. 😔💔
The interviewer does a fairly good job , but Chris was so intelligent he is able to turn even the stupid questions into interesting conversation. Chris Cornell is in the top 3 best rock n roll singers of all time , along with Robert Plant and Ronnie James Dio.
Id ask him so many other questions about how cool life and being able to pay all your bills and watch your kids grow, and NOT "how come you are the only guy still alive from the grunge era that hasn't committed suicide"

Terrible interviewer. They don't create a conversation but an interrogation of Chris. Tremendous patience from Chris, many stars would have fought back. The first quote by the interviewer mythologizes the whole tone of the entire interview entirely. Still wise words captured from Chris.
I have no problem with the question. it made this an amazing interview. Howard Stern asks the hard questions and he's a genius but this guy does it and people give him shit? I'm not comparing Rizzuto to Howard Stern's but it's a similiar interview style
The problem, first and foremost, is the term "grunge", which is NOT a genre, but an industry term used to sign bands after Nirvana. Let's get that out of way. The guy just reminds me of those "veejays" from MTV about 20 years ago, that would interview people and have no idea about the music they played, just that they were elevated to a certain prominence due to alternative rock booming at the time. There is a difference between a fanboy interviewing someone and being a journalist. Unfortunately this is what the music media has mutated to. Cornell should command more respect than having a fly to swipe at commenting over you. Sadly that is this generation of being rude and misinformed and they don't see it.
This guy's like, yeah don't you think it's weird that all the other guys are dead and you're still alive?? I guess Chris was like " hold my drink, I'll take care of that..."
I'm actually going to stop watching this interview at 03:14. The interviewer is uncomfortably trying to throw an agenda at Cornell and he wants him to play along. I was really interested in the video title but I quickly became really uncomfortable with the interviewer trying to lead Cornell with his heavy questions and the manner in which he delivered them. Maybe the interview improved but I'm far too uncomfortable to find out
It always struck me that during this era of Cornell's life, he often wore a heavy coat. On stage. On tour. During interviews etc. He did purchase a house in Florida. And in my experience living here, any tolerance to the cold disappears! Any way. Idk.
"Hey Dominic, make sure you include my jughead in the camera frame when I ask the stupid dumb ass questions. And let me know if I'm giving off an articulate, somewhat intellectually gifted vibe with my tones and my eyes shooting down. Just keep my face in the picture Dom! Okay?
Clearly not the popular opinion in this thread, but I thought this interview was decent. You don't ask a guy of this caliber "vanilla, interview 101" questions. He was a member of a dying breed with insight into the troubles that haunted most of the musicians of that grunge-era alternative. Plus, Scott's death was still so recent, the questions were relevant. Interviews are forced format anyway. And you could just tell this dude was totally starstruck. Who wouldn't be? 9/10 of the people reading this would have shit themselves in the same situation. RIP Chris. I'll listen to your art until I join you.
If anything this video shows he was willing to solve issues, take ownership of concerns. It goes against what media is hyping as a suicide. I don't see it possible as he did not give off the vibe that there were demons he was hiding or overcoming.
During this interview, did not the good interviewer raise some important issues? The point how those good musicians, and people who have died due to addictions, have to want to get better for themselves, you have to care and love yourself and the people you love enough to want to get well. It takes hard work and a big heart to be concerned about wanting to reach an essentially healthy state of existence. Towards the end of the interview the guy cleverly directs attention to families, and how the love they share can be an inspiration to not do harm to your life or others. Caring is a virtue we have to learn, and like learning the violin, or riding a bike, the more we develop a clever, loving heart, (with discernment of course) whatever our circumstances, it will lead one to make intelligent decisions, which will steer one's life and the people you know to somewhere Ultramega OK. Anyone read "Scar Tissue" By the Red Hot Chili Peppers singer Anthony Kiedis? By The Way Soundgarden are one of the greats.
Rizzuto: You can't stereotype the rock world as being drug influenced, where you don't identify the realities of everyday life of those who do not share the same limelight as Chris. Chris's point supersedes your idiotic inquiry, which is typically trite from your lack of experience and skewed judgement, of how one dies tragically young, and how the people around them suffer. Scott Weiland just happen to share the same page of history amongst the superstars, hence this is .00000000156% of the addicts that die! Also, brining this topic up was really bad timing since Chris was a good friend of Weiland's.
2 minutes in and it's a fuckin catastrophic cringefest. FFS this guy gives other journalists a bad name. Chris is a gentleman and a patient gem for even finishing this.
RIP

have to say i agree i thought very lame not that i could do better id ask for auto and scream but not my job ! lol

Yes. I think so.
Maybe The Abyss? Had band names on the wall..
Sounds like to me you were in the right place at the right time! I would have taken a kick in the head from Chris any day!
You have the opportunity to sit down with Chris Cornell and you ask him this crap? Wow..... what a waste of his and our time.
Seriously! It was almost as if he were absolutely hell-bent on getting his point of view to be the "correct" one when the other was far more realistic.
Totally. Not sure why he didn't just walk out. I would and I'm nobody. Says more about Chris. What a guy!
This was obviously a bad interview. Cornell treated him with respect the entire interview. Class act. Such a sad loss.

Kudos to Chris for holding this together during this drab.
He started out with "my Rushmore of", and asked " who I am missing", with that fake ass radio voice. That really sucked.
what a truly decent and intelligent guy, extremely sad 😔
This is sad to watch almost. my heart is just in pieces.

This breaks my heart. When Scott died I said, "Chris and Eddie better stay alive. You're the final two!" ...and then there was one :(
I hope he watches this everyday and contemplates joining the ranks
"We lost Layne, Kurt and now Scott Weiland." And now we lost Chris. RIP

Poor Chris, he is totally getting agitated here.
I feel bad that every time he got interviewed they kept talking about death.

he's telling him he's a 90's oddity. what a amateur interviewer. it's like sending in a random person off the street to do it.
yeah, that douche acted almost shocked that Cornell is still alive. WTF?!

Rest in Peace Chris. This is quite sad.
this guy "interviewing" him is a head case.
What a legend
This interviewer is a Bubba-the-love-sponge wanna be. He also doesn't have very solid communication skills.
Especially like the way the interviewer can't help but talk over Chris...great technique. Yow.

Stone Temple Pilots are NOT in the same class, and we're not a part of the original Seattle scene.
“Decadent” seriously dude? You’re interviewing Chris Cornell, do some research.
The problem, first and foremost, is the term "grunge", which is NOT a genre, but an industry term used to sign bands after Nirvana. Let's get that out of way. The guy just reminds me of those "veejays" from MTV about 20 years ago, that would interview people and have no idea about the music they played, just that they were elevated to a certain prominence due to alternative rock booming at the time. the term was actually first coined by the lead singer of the melvins
Alec Kenney you mean mudhoney
It's like Chris was trying to explain but the interviewer kept butting in and basically put words in his mouth....
This guy's like, yeah don't you think it's weird that all the other guys are dead and you're still alive??
I guess Chris was like " hold my drink, I'll take care of that..."
Seriously tho ☹️
I'm actually going to stop watching this interview at 03:14. The interviewer is uncomfortably trying to throw an agenda at Cornell and he wants him to play along. I was really interested in the video title but I quickly became really uncomfortable with the interviewer trying to lead Cornell with his heavy questions and the manner in which he delivered them. Maybe the interview improved but I'm far too uncomfortable to find out
ingrogies1 you did the right thing.
It just kept getting worse and worse
I just cant wrap my mind around that he would commit suicide. He seems to grounded. I hope the truth comes out.
Its in the best interest of the interviewer to address dumb questions that people tend to think.
Legend. Rip
Would have love to have heard a little more context on the new music....
fired
How NOT to do an interview 101.
Chris is an angel for not punching this guy.
Interviewer is a clueless manchild. Thanks Chris...for being you and sharing with us. ♡
It's easy to like Chris
It always struck me that during this era of Cornell's life, he often wore a heavy coat. On stage. On tour. During interviews etc.
He did purchase a house in Florida. And in my experience living here, any tolerance to the cold disappears! Any way. Idk.
"Hey Dominic, make sure you include my jughead in the camera frame when I ask the stupid dumb ass questions. And let me know if I'm giving off an articulate, somewhat intellectually gifted vibe with my tones and my eyes shooting down. Just keep my face in the picture Dom! Okay?
when was this interview?
what a contradiction, who would have thought he was suffering that much :'(
WE'LL ALWAYS LOVE YOU
Clearly not the popular opinion in this thread, but I thought this interview was decent.
"Tour Bus, parking lot or a bathroom sink....
RIP, Chris Cornell
Chris is right. I'm that guy
If anything this video shows he was willing to solve issues, take ownership of concerns. It goes against what media is hyping as a suicide. I don't see it possible as he did not give off the vibe that there were demons he was hiding or overcoming.
Chris was always so gracious during even the most idiotic interviews
He was getting annoyed 8:13
2:15 is as far as I could make it
Rizzuto: You can't stereotype the rock world as being drug influenced, where you don't identify the realities of everyday life of those who do not share the same limelight as Chris.
Only 1 original grunge era singer left. 😥
2 minutes in and it's a fuckin catastrophic cringefest. FFS this guy gives other journalists a bad name. Chris is a gentleman and a patient gem for even finishing this.
