- Preston tells us about "MOABY DICK" his 1988 V3500 GMC one ton square body rock crawler. We review all of the work we have done to it and some upcoming projects we are planning to do to it. This full size truck hangs with the best build Jeeps out there and is often seen on "buggy lines".
Good job on this build it definitely gives me some good ideas. I have a long bed 79 k10 and I got the stock sm465 with the 205 transfer case 411 gears and I can dump the clutch just like you did lol. These are definitely fun trucks.
Yeah, hard to see the difference of the gearing in that clip but a doubler greatly increases the low range! 120:1 low range with the doubler and my axle gears compared to a 54:1 reduction with your set up. And these trucks are the best!
I saw a white Jeep butt bomb’n one of your shots that’s sort a familiar. 🤣
I love that truck! It’s a head turner for sure!
Sweet truck, good idea to get rid of the factory tbi. They always seem to have issues.
Very true!
Hey man, sick truck! cant wait to start my build and get back to wheelin. I was wondering what length shackle you had to use for the 52" front springs? From what I could find online, some used 6" and some used 7.25".
Thanks for the interest! They are 8” shackles that I built myself out of 2” wide strap and if I recall correctly 1/2” thick. The 8” is a center of hole to hole measurement and they are the perfect length in my opinion
Love the vid planning on building my own square. Any tips for looking for one. I know the short beds are the more wanted ones but we're there certain years that are better? I plan on getting on I can put CO collector plates so no emissions. That puts me I think at early 80s and later. Definitely post more crawling videos of it! Love more technical videos also.
Thanks for your comments. Square bodies in general are getting harder to find and more expensive. Really it depends on what your plans are on what you get. Preston wanted the longer wheel base for rack crawling so the long bed was a better choice for him. The great thing about the square bodies are there's just so much after market support. You can get pretty much anything for them. Just look them over really good and know what you're getting into before you purchase one. Sometimes a shiny restoration is hiding a lot of problems. Best to find something with factory paint. Avoid the pigs with lipstick on them. They can be very rusty
