    I am so happy to see that you showed everyone to use anti seize. I can not tell you how many times I have to rescue a fellow gear head because the splines are rusted together on two parts. Great job and pre lube with the lucas oil on all bearings. This is why that gear set up will have the best chance for a long life as possible.

      I stress that also , On my truck i have had every fastener out at least once , lol Everywhere it is appropriate it has never seize, that way when i do have to work on anything or upgrading it dll comes apart like it was brand new, it just makes life a lot easier ehen your not snapping bolts or stripping stuff

    If magazine and channel builders have taught me anything, it's that you start your project no more than 6 weeks before the event, cobble it together and go, then spend the next year fixing it to go again and have a bucket of new problems from your changes and fixes; or it's just a motortrend thing.
    Honestly it's great to see build series where time is taken to do things right and think ahead to solve problems before they can happen. Can't wait to see the finished vehicle.

    being a former plumber myself , descendant from a family of three plumbers,

    because : a subject that is mastered , when explained, is easily understood from some one NOT trained in the art.

    Makes me feel better seeing other people using marine grease in our area, I was always questioned on it when building axles for people, so i spoke my concerns but could still see the doubt in their eyes.

    • @DirtLifestyle
      @DirtLifestyle  11 місяців тому +2

      I did a ton of research on marine grease. Everything I could find showed similar performance as standard high temp. BUT it has additives that repel water, making it slightly more expensive. As far as I can tell, that is the only con 👍.

    I’ve always loved land cruisers and I’ve always loved Ramchargers, and I really appreciate the underdog aspect of the s10 so this series has had me conflicted. I will say though, that Nate by far has the most palatable content to watch so I’ve been rooting for him since the start

    The small details you correct along the way are what really make this build so engaging. Those of us who do all the wrenching ourselves know how much time it takes to do everything the "right" way and it's worth doing even if it's never going to get you more instagram likes. I'm a 100 series owner and my Toyota bias means this is looking like it's going to replace your land rover as my favorite build.

    On my gladiator rubicon, i just reused the factory shims and was right back into the factory specs when I went up to 5.13s. I was really surprised and checked it 3 more times. So far, and 50K miles, no problems. Gears are quiet. It was my first time ever doing gears. It took me 6 hours on the back, to learn how to do it. The front only took me 3 hours. Probably the scariest thing I have ever done on a vehicle. Plus I saved myself $2k on install. Plus I know I did it right. I wish everyone used removable third members though. It would make setting gears up so much easier. I'm more of a fan of Toyota and Land Rover axles.

    Nate, I will try and make this short. Not only is your work really good, but the way you explain things makes people like me understand. I am the proud owner of 4 land rovers, 3 defenders and a d2 TD5 (which build of yours led me to your channel) and watch your channel from Namibia in Africa. `"Rock crawling" here is not much of a thing herew, but raw off-roading and camping is our forte. Feel free to hook up anytime you ponder about an adventure in Africa. OK, I couldnt keep it shorter than that and keep those videos coming. Thank you.

    On my #LX45 project, one limit I found on the 80 series front axle was the steering arm to knuckle interface. No matter what I did with the stock 4-stud system, it would not stay tight long term with hydro assist steering ( and that hydro assist was built to stop correctly at the ram, steering stops, and internally on the box all at the same time ) and a 40" tire. I ended up having to make large 1/2" thick tabs on all 3 steering arm locations that tied back into the steering stop bosses on the outer knuckle ball. This tool a few little tricks, but they are still removeable and the steering stops are all still adjustable. Those tabs where multi-pass TIG welded with normal ER70 to the steering arms. The steering arms are a forged steel part and welded quite nice once clean. I also welded everything while bolted together and allowed it to cool while in place. With multiple seasons on that modification, I can't recommend it enough for the 80 series knuckle package. I went from having to check and re-torque the studs after every day of hard wheeling to not having them move at all in multiple seasons with trips all over Sand Hollow, Rubicon, Dusy, etc.

    Great work! I much preferred watching you do it than me. You may have over done it with the grease. It can push through the inner seals and make a mess of the locker and R&P. You will probably be okay, but its usually best to leave a little space in the knuckle. My bets are on you and this LC.

    Speaking from experience and to save a heap of pain especially on road brace the panhard mounts, 2 of my 80 series and a 105 series landcruiser cracked, broke and bent their panhard mounts. Also brace the frame around the steering box, they're prone to cracking.. ask me how I know 😅 love the builds mate and have been a long time watcher! Nice to finally know abit about a rig you've got 😂🤘

    • @taeymansom
      @taeymansom 11 місяців тому

      Also a nissan patrol GU steering box is a big upgrade from factory and will save your bacon later, especially under high steer load situations. That and a way to mark your king pin bolts to check for movement will help alot too.
      After alot of highway ks before tracks or heavy breaking the hubs can eventually heat up causing the king pin bolts to get enough wiggle to start to back out and snap..then it's a downhill run, it's rare but it definitely definitely happens 🤦😅

    • @CACressida
