Had this truck for a few months now. Finally had some time to get started on it. Big plans for this truck. Going to start by getting it running and roadworthy. Then we'll spice up the interior and exterior and slam it just as low as we can get it. This will be a comfortable driver, and we plan to use it! #C30 #crewcab #dually #squarebodychevy #454bigblock #quadrajet
Does spending more money for axle shafts make them any more fun?

Rock crawling destroyed my differential cover. I made a new one using 1/4" steel tread plate I got for free. Fun fabrication project to test and hone your skills. Turned out pretty cool and didn't leak! No fancy tools were used. Grinder, Harbor Freight press, and welder.

never heard of welding to the cab and bed before. hope its workin well still!
im using 2x6's for my rock sliders..nice to see im not alone...1/4 inch thick baby!
Why not replace the inner fender too? Only a few spot welds on the backside its out..
I'm thinking about getting that same patch panel to use. Was it really flimsy and too thin though? On AMDs website it shows it being 21 gauge thickness.
Was on The Maze with you. Fun to watch the wide bodies tackle the obstacles. YEEHAAH
what did you end up doing with the proportioning thing Im putting this kit on my c30 ? love the truck
I just cut it loose from the frame. It's just hanging out under the bed right now. Has not effected the braking at all.
🔥🔥 gotta get me one of them! 🤘🏼
Seeing you do this really helps, I'm looking to replace the floor both on passenger and drivers side in a 1977 ford van with dog house. I don't have a welder but plan to use self driving screws and small bolts, I will be looking at junk yards to see if I can locate a similar van. I will be using a reciprocating saw to cut out the parts that I need. It's amazing what water can do over time. Thanks for your video.
You should look into body panel glue. 3M has a really good product that most autonomy shops use. Best luck with your project. Thanks for Watching!
I believe you can swap to squarebody suburban rear bumper & run hitch behind the tag box
I'll look into that. Thanks for the tip. I was going to hide the hitch behind the plate, but hadn't thought of a suburban bumper. Thanks for watching
Something like that, always add a weld, bolts rust, frames flex
Turds for the win! Working on a v20 overlander this year for the fam.
Sounds like a fun project. We definitely have a square body addiction! Hope you enjoy our channel.
Driver = Awesome Tires = awesome Leaf springs = Get r done
Thanks, Thanks, and thanks for watching!
This rig works so good. Believe I’ll just live my off roading hobby vicariously through your channel.
Thanks. And thanks for watching!
Nice job! Clean run thru a tricky obstacle, doing us old school leaf sprung guys proud ! Also cool to see a 14 bolt and Dana 60 in their original truck wheelin' proper like ! Do not let the boo birds convince you to link that truck and make it just like everyone else's modern trail rig. Simple old iron can really get it done.
Thanks. I agree. with the exception of the doubler, and lockers the drive train is original to the truck. I have no intention of linking it. The long leaf springs work amazing! 52" front leaf springs and 62" rear leaf springs flex every bit as good as coil overs. Hope you enjoy our channel!
That’s some Bad @ss driving!
Super fun trail!! Love the old square body with a proper manual trans! I ran it on Friday in my 1958 Land Rover (Stealty iron block LS swapped) With my pals in the old Willys Jeeps, all of us on small bias ply tires. We had a total blast climbing these walls/ledges! Nice video, and yes, it's also a new favorite of mine.
I saw your videos with Grandpas Jeep! Your Land Rover is AWSOME! The way you guys drive those things is amazing! It's good to still see leaf springs in action. Thanks for watching!
Yes! don't loose faith in old school leaf springs. If you run into problems with chronic hop, they can be tuned to eliminate it under most conditions. Remember, any vehicle can be induced to hop under certain conditions, even linked buggys. I have another old Land Rover long wheelbase pickup on Chevy 52" springs up front, 64" out back, which I run both 37 and 40 inch tires on. With a healthy rectangle port 6.0 LS and a granny four speed. I sometimes have to heat up the Maxxis Creepys, and it does not have hop issues. It absolutely roasts the tires whenever I feel like it. I do not have or need a traction bar setup. My rigs have a lot of nose weight bias, which really helps keep the front suspension from unloading on the big walls / ledges. lots of subtle, sneaky old guy things really help. Leaf springs aren't the best suspension, but don't underestimate their potential in a non go fast non competition rig.@@saltysteelgarage5585
sounds like your addiction to Land Rovers is as bad as my addiction to square body Chevy's and GMC's! I'd like to see the pickup. Not sure I've ever seen a Land Rover pickup. @@timmcooper294
Yea, it's pretty bad, got hooked as a kid back in the mid 1970's living in Alaska. My dad had a friend with a (late model at that time) mid 1960's Land Rover 109 pickup diesel, with a big PTO winch on it. I loved riding around in the back of that truck. Then, in the 1980's, I got my own and really got the sickness, started swapping Chevy small blocks into them. My current series IIA 109 pickup is sprung over on the same excellent spring combo your running, and I kept the original heavy duty optioned Eaton front and rear axles that the truck came with....Yes, Tons from the factory !! Similar to the Eaton HO72, I was able to put GM 14 bolt Detroits in them and I love that setup !! Been thru a bunch of engines in that truck, right now it's waiting for another one, got a blown up 6.0 LS in it....... Should be fixed later this spring. Gotta take it to Sand Hollow soon !! @@saltysteelgarage5585
Great footage! Thanks for sharing. Now I need to go back and “throttle assault” a few obstacles.
For sure!
Nice driving in those big rigs!
Thanks 👍
Where did you buy the rockers from I'm doing my 79 crew cab and haven't seen any for crew cabs
I bought them through amazon. I believe they are made by auto metal direct. they are a bit deceiving because they are one piece. The factory had two piece rockers. One under each door. I actually just cut them up and used what I needed instead of keeping the patch all one piece. If I were to do it again, I would probably replace the entire piece. Thanks for watching.
Love this truck . God bless & Merry Christmas .
Thanks. I have it completely painted and re-assembled now. I'll be posting more videos about it. It turned out pretty sweet. Still looking for semi wheels though. Thanks for the positive feedback! Thanks for watching!
On the road by January 17th? 🙏🏻
It's on the road, but it won't clear the rocks were crawling! Taking the white whale "Moaby Dick" for that!
Update on the Old Girl ???
Thanks for this vid. My 01 TJ is doing the same thing, I'll get a new sensor PDQ,
Are those full panels or are they the top half patch panels, I have the same thing but mines a little more crunchy lol
Those are the small bedside patches. But I would replace the inners too.cheap n quick.
@@drumrooster hey I appreciate it, I'll have to look into the inners and figure out my 110 Chinese welder and give it a go
Did He buy the floor pans from LMC Truck?
Looking Great! I've got Your next project all ready for You! LOL!
Thanks Marty! Got it all put back together now. I think it turned out pretty good.
did you weld these straight to the body? shoulda gone to the frame.
As a welder i knoe damm well that shit burned when he started welding and you where holding it been their 🤣i thoight he was going to tac it at first but ol boy just wmt to straight burning 💀👍
Chevy & GMC produced those square body models from 1973 - 1991 except the regular cab pickups "half ton & three quarter ton models only" were finished in 1987, & the one ton regular cab pickups were finished in 1989.
That is correct
Make it a High Country
First timer on you channel too. Ready to see some work, looking for the same truck now.
Thanks for joining us! More work coming soon!
First time viewer I look forward to seeing the progress 🤘🏼
Thanks for the view, hopefully we can keep you interested between the Offroad content, hot rod content and this dually!
What year is this truck I have one just like this one but not lowered yet?
It’s a 1984. cool thing to have one, they are becoming rare trucks!
How are the fenders working out so far? I just got mine in and will be installed this week.
What happens when you flex it out and your bed wants to tilt one way and the cab the other way?
That was a concern when building. My truck is a factory one ton which means it has a much larger frame and they tend to twist a lot less but the sliders being tied to the body as well as the frame actually completely eliminate the little frame flex that did exist before and I haven’t had any issues with it yet
Any issues with those welds cracking or bending the body since the frame and body flex separately? Nice build. Probably going to do something similar to my burb.
Thanks for your concern, its been wheeled hard since and haven’t had any issues yet! A new custom flat bed is in the works and a frame back half so that will resolve any potential issues. Also suburbans are bad to the bone! Good luck!
@@saltysteelgarage5585 sweet. Good to know, I might do the same 🤘. Looking forward to seeing the build continue.
Good job on this build it definitely gives me some good ideas. I have a long bed 79 k10 and I got the stock sm465 with the 205 transfer case 411 gears and I can dump the clutch just like you did lol. These are definitely fun trucks.
Yeah, hard to see the difference of the gearing in that clip but a doubler greatly increases the low range! 120:1 low range with the doubler and my axle gears compared to a 54:1 reduction with your set up. And these trucks are the best!
Hey man, sick truck! cant wait to start my build and get back to wheelin. I was wondering what length shackle you had to use for the 52" front springs? From what I could find online, some used 6" and some used 7.25".
Thanks for the interest! They are 8” shackles that I built myself out of 2” wide strap and if I recall correctly 1/2” thick. The 8” is a center of hole to hole measurement and they are the perfect length in my opinion
Sweet truck, good idea to get rid of the factory tbi. They always seem to have issues.
Very true!
I really like how there are people who like to revive these trucks and even more so if it is a Ford, greetings and blessings to you,👍
Great video Dave and Preston. What a great father and son project. Can't wait to see your progress and the beautiful finished dually crew cab!!
Very nice
Thank you
Love a good diy! Great man👌🏻
Thank you very much!
Good video I’m about to start on my 79 and that’s the same side I need to fix. Thanks
Awesome. Good luck on the '79!
nice work.sir.larry
Thank you much
Before I put 1st coat of body filler on a repair like that I like to use fiberglass filler. Its waterproof and just makes me feel more confident about avoiding stress cracks in the repair afterwards. Especially on a pickup bed that have tendencies to shake and move around alot more than a car quarter panel would.
Awesome, thanks for your input, we’ve had nothing but success without using a fiberglass body filler but its definitely something to think about!
Convenient attachment, right on fellas
Thank you for your view! I’m glad you like it!
MOABy truck is very ugly, but you can’t imagine how well it Rick climbs!!!
I just want to know why it's climbing Ricks
