I must say this is a very good idea. A lot of the channels I subscribe to have done build videos but not budget builds. Anyone can make a good sold build if they throw a good amount of money at the job but it's another thing getting similar results from a budget build.
There is definitely a lot of money into this build still, but it's about doing it over time. I don't build cheap trucks, but this format is just a fun way to approach a build in a way that is engaging and almost a puzzle to make it fit the budget.
I just bought mine. Thanks so much for this very informative series! I'm trying to keep up (it's my first hobby grade rc ever) but I have been finding out that I was severely lacking the proper tools and hardware. I went to Harbor freight and got a nice tool kit for less than 10 bucks and I'm ordering the hardware kit you suggested as well. Got myself a nice little toolbox so I can have stuff on the go and it's getting easier!! So far I have replaced the front bumper, installed a rear bumper (both from RC Rock Armor), done the battery relocation mod, ordered the same electronics tray you got (just did that today) and bought some scale add-ons which I haven't installed yet (fire extinguisher, roof rack, and spare gas can). I plan on wrapping it in carbon fiber to set it apart from it's green brethren, and adding some bead lock wheels with some white lettered tires. This is very exciting! Seriously though, thanks for the videos! You seem to be the easiest one for me to follow.
Such a good deal- not bad looking either. I didn't realize it had the 32p spur-- that's awesome. Good stuff! The last budget build is still my favorite Wraith series. I learned a ton from that one and still go back from time to time.
I already know two of the upgrades...battery to the front and aluminum steering links! It's amazing how much better this truck is after those two simple things.
Thanks for the great video. Ive been looking for a good truck for my son and I to get into the hobby with, and this rig seems perfect! Very informative, subbed!
awesome, didnt even know its 32P. just bought one, and stock is the best rtr ive owned. Out of the box its balanced and capable, not leaving much to be desired. im adding a 21.5 brushless system for low end torque and more low speed control, and building my own metal links and steering to do away with the soft typical plastic links that bend. my only complaint is the dead zone on the controler from reverse to forwards is VERY precise. to the point that letting the throttle return on its own will often put it in reverse. besides that, its a all around great rig with hill brake, lipo capabilities (runs 2s fine) and a well built drivetrain.
I so agree on the lipos I've had great luck with turnigy and zippys also. Been wanting to try the 3rd brand hobby king sells in the yellow wrap I can't think of the name of them.
AWESOME! I was going to request an SCX10 budget build. And I picked up a SCX10 Deadbolt a couple weeks ago so I can't wait to see the progression of this truck! Also worth noting Tower Hobbies allows you to stack their coupon codes with their free shipping promotions so you can get a really good deal.
great project again, altough i still think you shoul consider the shipping cost aswell, not everybody ives in US,for the eurpoeans, the costs are arround 20-30% from the order value.still can't wait to see what are the plans for this rig
That just makes things very unrealistic on my end. I understand not everyone has the same access to shipping but I can't consider that in the theme of this build. Even at $50 it becomes difficult to fit in what I really want!
I was into RC buggy racing years ago I was thinking about getting back into the hobby and crawling. Would you recommend this are the VAT era for basically a new person I watched your videos on the offender it seems very nice but I like this too
with your preferred battery... Do you prefer 60c for competition? I only ask because many forums suggest 30c but not sure if they choose for trail blazzing vs. competition. i usually prefer middle of the road and thinking the 40c. But then again... how much difference will be evident when crawling. Thanks for the videos and your time.
Hi just wanted to know if you can run lipo's on the stock motor and esc if so whats the max I can go before frying the esc and motor? also love your video's :)
Crawling and speed are not things that go together easily. It takes tuning and parts to get something that handles both well. The Wraith has more speed than the SCX and handles speed related upgrades better. But it will take upgrades to get it to do both things well. Go watch the Poison Spyder Budget build series for some insight. Be careful about any facebook info you read, that is the place where bad information goes to breed!
Harley Designs which one would you recommend? SCX10™ 2012 Jeep® Wrangler Unlimited C/R Edition or Axial Wraith 1/10th Scale Electric 4WD - RTR or Jeep® Wrangler Wraith-Poison Spyder Rock Racer? Im getting one of these and have a hard time picking?
+Cody Bennett There are many things to check. A little wobble is not a big deal though, it's just a factor of a soft tire. If it is violent then that is different.
Axial scx10 deadbolt motor smoking after 20 min of run time on s3 lipo 2200mah first time with battery motor only ran 4 times before running with 3s lipo anyone knows way or what u suggest I upgrade to
+Okie Rebel I lived in KC for 10 years and traveled to Oklahoma every year for different events at Disney. I always loved crawling there, both RC and fullsize. I also would travel down to Clayton and Arkbuckle OK for full size crawling.
Hey Harley I have a deadbolt which is 12.0 wheel base but would like to extend to 12.3 wb. What do I need to modify properly to get the exact measurement. And will if affect the steering or anything to do with crawling?
Harley Designs ok thanks Harley I appreciate it. Your deadbolt budget build was the reason I purchased it your upgrades were by far the best ones I've seen for this rig.
Also do I need to extend the drive shaft or do I leave it with what came with the deadbolt? I want to upgrade my drive shaft that ssd carries but want to make sure I get this right.
I just bought a scx10 kit cant wait to do the same upgrades as you do totally ready for another amazing build thx harley designs
I'm so excited for this budget build. Enjoyed the wraith budget build a lot. Thanks

RC hobby is the best thing to have time pass and enjoy. You will be hooked for many many years.
Looking forward to this build.

Picked up the Deadbolt for the same reason can't beat the RTR price. It's the perfect starting point for a new build.
Looking forward to see what you do - stock it looks pretty good! Love the 3s capable feature.
I already know two of the upgrades...battery to the front and aluminum steering links! It's amazing how much better this truck is after those two simple things.
Thanks for the great video. Ive been looking for a good truck for my son and I to get into the hobby with, and this rig seems perfect! Very informative, subbed!
The Deadbolt will be a great truck for you both, best choice you could make to get into the hobby IMO.
great start to what I'm sure will be a great build. I too followed the poison spider budget build.

Sounds like some great potential...first to go is almost certainly those steering links:-) Thanks for sharing man!
Very soon!
I so agree on the lipos I've had great luck with turnigy and zippys also. Been wanting to try the 3rd brand hobby king sells in the yellow wrap I can't think of the name of them.
Those are the Rhino packs, I have used the small ones, 800 mah and below, with good luck. However I haven't tried any of the larger packs from them.
Its a good starting point ! I upgraded mine over the top cost vise lol
Awesome! Lookign so forward to this build,Harley! :D
thank you for the help I appreciate it love all your deadbolt videos there a big help
these vid series are great
glad this is finally started looking forward to this build let me know if u and guys doing any crawlin

that's Thursdays sorted. What's the first upgrade going to be
Well as a hint, this thursday is going to be Freebie upgrades. Just stuff you can do out of the box.

I would recommend the Deadbolt over the Vaterra. I own the Vaterra also and it's a good truck but not as good as the Axial.
now the deadbolt comes with a tactic controller and a 3 channel receiver

Thanks for the videos and your time.
You should also mention something about the R35 compound on the new RTR´s, for me that´s important because it makes the Kit´s a little less desirable.
these stock tires are great, this is by far the best RTR ive owned from axial.
Good catch, I'll touch on this later on. I wish I would have mentioned it initially.
Nice
I bet you can't wait to get a Roc 412 in it :)
is the axial dead bold water proof
Cool man
Hi just wanted to know if you can run lipo's on the stock motor and esc if so whats the max I can go before frying the esc and motor? also love your video's :)
TheBP Yes lipos are fine, I run 3s 2200mah packs on my stock Deadbolt ESC.
Harley Designs Thank you :) I seen your pictures on facebook of you out crawling there amazing love seeing pictures of rc's your channel awesome.
How long of run times you get with 2200mah lipo?
CYCO274 depends on the conditions and how hard I'm driving. Can be 15 minutes of thrashing or 45 mins of trail riding.
how long and tall is it
Do you like your scx 10 2 or trx 4 sport better
I like the SCX10-2 better just because I don’t like portals under most things. I think portals belong under certain builds.
@@HarleyDesignsInc Thank you, do you think the scx 10 performes better?
What rc should be my first one for rock crawling and has speed?
Crawling and speed are not things that go together easily. It takes tuning and parts to get something that handles both well. Adams son you were so young! Lol
I subbed instantly because of the shirt. are you an okie?
+Okie Rebel I lived in KC for 10 years and traveled to Oklahoma every year for different events at Disney. I always loved crawling there, both RC and fullsize. I also would travel down to Clayton and Arkbuckle OK for full size crawling.
Ohh I followed your Wraith budget build.
$$$$$$$$ :-D
It is 500$ IN AUSTRALIA
Hey Harley I have a deadbolt which is 12.0 wheel base but would like to extend to 12.3 wb. What do I need to modify properly to get the exact measurement. And will if affect the steering or anything to do with crawling?
+Lil Conan you need a standard Honcho/Jeep JK link kit. The wheelbase change will have pros and cons but overall is a length I like as well.
Harley Designs ok thanks Harley I appreciate it. Your deadbolt budget build was the reason I purchased it your upgrades were by far the best ones I've seen for this rig.

bronco is ford not jeep
Firsties!!!
would the axial waith spawn be better or the deadbold
+4 kids completely different types of cars and it depends on what you want to do. I have a full Wraith budget build as well.
