I kind of expected the 10.2 to do better than the 10.3, but wow! I have both of my 10.2's set up so the servo is up front and the battery pack lays flat. Better at crawling with no added mods. A little brass up front and it would be a beast!
The best crawler in this video is the ant in the lower left foreground at 8:32! Haha! Great attention to details, as I have come to learn from watching several of your videos so far. I subscribed earlier today. Looking forward to seeing more of your recent stuff!
Just subscribed nice channel! So I have a tip for everyone. My opinion most simple and best mod is wheels and rims. But not just that’s. You wrap metal model train weights around your rim then mount your tires. Gives you amazing low weight. My SCX10.1 has two sets wrapped in the front and one in the back but I run the battery in the rear. I have aluminum bottom links and alum servo link and horn. With everything else stock with a 12inch wheel base . Thing crawls rocks better then these guys that have been in the hobby for years w mods. I’m still a noob and learning but I’m telling you train weights give it that perfect low weight to a light chassis. (Make sure you leave wheels elevated or they will get flat spots.)
just getting back into the RC world after a decade away and you’ve definitely sold me on the tried and true second gen over the newer one. plus it’s a little easier on the wallet 👍
Yes, we would love to see video of it doing really hard, tech stuff. We keep checking. Could run it without the body and all the features to improve it. But then it will barely be a 10.3
Excellent comparison, amazing explanation and awesome tips! I was grinding for scx10 III but I am now going to pull the trigger on scx10 II👍 thanks a bunch!
Thank You for the comparison, im new to the Hobby, i got the 10ii Jeep Cherokee one month ago at Amain. Working on getting lights on it, liked your other videos on upgrades. Thanks for the details.
Ok, at least now we have seen it. This new one (specially in stock mode) is not so great climber. Time to change those shock oils and make other changes.
Already have a SCX10 II with the Element RC IFS conversion. Running a Raptor body on it and a Solid front axle didn't look right since the Raptor runs IFS on the front. Still undecided on the SCX10 III. The II and TRX4 in my collection get used often enough when I'm not mucking around with one of my 2 Drifter cars.
Well after watching your 10iii vids I think the next big brand crawler I'll be adding our fleet will be the element sendero . We have a gen7 portal truck ,gen7, e10, gen8 , 10.1, 10.2 ,tlt1, cr01, trx4 . Toss up lately with us has been 10iii , element, gmade bom,. Wife and I both agree the element looks to be the next best one . Thanks for all the great review's
My SCX11 is my best crawling truck. Definitely better than my TRX4 Defender. I've done most of the upgrades you recommended long before this came out. Few though I haven't done. The Esc and motor also not sure if you said these but haven't done the wheel weights yet, that I'm aware of been awhile since I broke it out. Does have all steel bead locks. Always first up grade, wheels and tires. Well say great review and comparison video. I really respect your opinion on things. Your doing a great job!
Very nice comparison man 👍 I have been around the 2 unimog kit and it’s surprising. Went mostly like %97 places I went with same tires in this vid on my trx4 and his all stock. I had plastic bead locks wheel weights and Pyrex tires. It would start to wheelhop a little and bounce up and over about anything lol I would weigh the wheels but I wonder if that would hurt it the way it hops 🤷🏻♂️.
I got the Blazer partially based off your review of it as well as a few others. This video is very interesting and validating. Your other videos helped a lot, especially the comparisons when the Blazer first came out. But yeah, got the SCX10 II at a crazy good price, have already replaced the servo with a Savox and got some Hyrax tires for it. Fantastic truck!
@@RCReviewChannel That's it precisely. As long as someone knows going in that their investment will be an ongoing thing, and to not get too bent out of shape if something gets bent out of shape, then they should be happy customers. Like I knew that I would have to do the servo upgrade, so I didn't throw it all away when the servo went kaput. And shocks are next. I'd like a good set of reliable, non-leaking shocks.
I’m still trying to finish my 10.2 atm after I finished that I will be picking up the 3 just a casual hobbyist we have lots of amazing trails here in Vegas 🏜🚜👍🏽 rtr? Hmmmm 🧐
Cost more sure, but if your after a near unstoppable rig for owning some tough lines.. the TRX-6 will please you time after time, and look fantastic as well.
Own both. 10.2 is heavier upfront due to placement of battery pack. On the 10.2 literally everything is up front if you’re running the kit transmission and not the old three gear. Your motor, servo, battery and transmission are all up front. Only thing towards the middle is all the electronics. The 10.3 has the disadvantage of having a higher height due to portal axles which gives it a higher center of gravity in relation to centerline plus it moves the battery (in most cases the heaviest weight) to the rear which throws off weight balance. The 10.2 was the best platform they ever released and horizon Hobbyvilla screwed it up. I swapped out my portals for their straight axle conversion kit. Unfortunately due to the design there’s nowhere to mount a battery up front. All you can do to counteract it is to use a heavier weight oil in the rear along with stiffer springs
Very nice video! But please do competition with similar version SCX10 lll, and TRX with scal body and all gadgets. In different situation, it’s like comparing Kenworth 963 with Fiesta ST and complaining that this first can’t find parking space in the shopping center.
Hey sir could you tell me where to get the aftermarket finders for the Jeep scx10 3 ? I'm definitely liking the scx 10 2 better. Thank you for your honesty🙏
I've been enjoying your videos on rock crawlers for a while now and there very informative. I'm a long time RC car enthusiast, but new to rock crawlers. I like the fact I don't need to make/find a track; just a spot in the backyard will do. I was thinking about the SCX 10 II and your video sold me on it. I am having trouble finding any form of competition rules, clubs, how off-road or rock crawling events are formed and held. Any information you can provide to help me steer towards getting involved in an organization or event would be helpful. Thanks again, love your work.
For me, front motor mount opens up the scale world for interiors and bodies. If I had to build these vehicles I would put the portals on the 10II for a comp crawler and the AR44s on the 10III for a scale car.
Great review, your video sure does show the scx10-3 flip over a lot more than the 2, the 3 should have come out with the gladiator body. On to the next video
Really not sure how to approach this, but I suppose that for those coming into the tiny truck scene that this is informative. Perhaps my learning curve has been steeper than I presumed, a stable full of various manufacturers and styles I am sure helped me in forming my own, and in agreement with your review. Currently I am assembling my SCX10.3, I have rough trail rigs, or over built trail rigs you might call them and from the initial release I knew that this was never going to be one of my best performing trucks. What I lacked and anticipate that this release will satisfy is that trail cruiser, like you said "its the body".
Yes, agreed. This is the baseline. And there will be many, many opportunities to improve crawling performance. Many think the 10.3 will crawl like a spider since it has all the latest features. This is more a reality check.
A good video comparing what they can do. Seems like the III sacrificaes a pinch of performance for portals & better scale looks. But as to which one is better? That's completely subjective. The answer is, and should be, "Which one will put a bigger smile on your face when you're driving?" That's the answer to which is better... Choose accordingly ;)
In stock form, the III is a better trail crawler. It has better ground clearance, more planted, looks better. For technical rock crawling, the II is better. Both can be modified to death, but I think their lead will not change.
What do you think about the Cherokee version of the scx 10 ii I love mine I have some weighted beed locks and hyrax tires love it just really light to light looking to get metal bumpers and brass weights
The thing is non off them r rock crawlers there both made as trail trucks plus the wheel base looks bit longer on the 10iii iv got a 10ii n will get a10iii grate vid m8 👍
Another awesome video analysis Francis👍 I have the SCX10 ii 1969 Chevy Blazer and love it. With regards to SCX10 iii, I’m still not sure, will wait and see if they do a ‘sport’ style which would be enticing as a kit without that Jeep body or two speed.
Great video good thing that I pick up a 10.2 kit recently... question whats the stock shock oil weight on the stock 10.2 and what is the weight recommended for all around and all terrain?
Hy thanks for the video... i have a question, is it easy to use an scx10ii Body on a scx10iii chassis? howmutch i have to change to fit the body? Thx Pos.
Thank you for the video! Scx10 II suits my style better, havent had an rc since since around when the poison wraith came out😂 might have to grab one again!
I have the 2 and love it. As my SCX10 ll sits now with a Toyota Hilux hard body and it is 8 lbs and she runs Awesome with or without the overlander trailer I made for it. I might have to get the SCX10 lll kit just so I have one.
We are doing it now. It will help a little bit. But it will do exactly the same as not using that internal roll cage now. 65 grams. Barely visible anyway.
It's not that good. We have it on our Capra and our VS4-10 Pro. The Capra is so weak and cannot be activated under power. The Vanquish is way better and usable in an on-demand momentary button. It avoids some three point turns. On very tight courses, it can be useful too since the vehicle can be pointed more easily. But it's a whole new skillset that can lead to a lot of errors and fails until used perfectly.
i can see you obviously know your stuff with these scale crawlers , would you mind helping me out i wonder ?? i am new to crawlers and have just purchased a full metal chassis from bangood but im not sure what ive actually bought lol ! i think its an axial scx10, im not sure if its any good or not , it was a bit of an impulse buy, have you heard of this chassis at all ??
I own both with similar upgrades on each. And in my personal experience with them The .2 beats the .3 on trails and on the rocks. Hardly anyone uses dig on trails and the 2 speed tranny is stupid in any scenario. Just my opinion.
RC Review sweet! Thanks for answering. One more question. Is the 10.2 honcho body able to fit into the new 10.3 body? Or do you think axial will release a new “Toyota” body for the 10.3?
Dig is not that useful so far. It really doesn't allow harder lines to be cleared. And more opportunities to make driving errors. And the 10 iii dig won't really work under power. Our Vanquish VS4-10 dig is more useful. Fun to play with but at a weight and complexity cost.
Nice footage. Very as you would expect, makes me drool for what's coming out from Axial on this new platform. Hope they do a builders kit or "sport version for want of a better word next.... Cheers mate 👍
Great video !! It would be more significant with Wrangler SCX10 II vs new Wrangler SCX10 III... I've bought Blazer many months ago after seeing you review, but I was really disappointed because of its huge body... Wrangler SCX10 II is much better (It was my first Axial).
@@RCReviewChannel great planning ! Thanks for the video suggestion, I have already viewed it a few days ago, your channel is a must after having done my daily jobs 😉
Great video, I've had many crawlers and recently pickup a 10 ii, I must say with a few mods it's destroys my modded trx4 sport just about everywhere. I think maybe you ran a light battery in your sport vs 10 ii video? The 10ii benefits from a 3000+ mah right up front... I'd like to see that comparison again with the same tyres and a few bits of comparable brass on each.
Nice info.... now lets put a different body on the 3 and remove the inner fenders and the molded on parts on the engine. Strip it down and see how it does.
Man please compare the Gen 8 Axe to the SCX 10.3. They will both be brushless and have better servos. I think they are comparable. I am betting the Axe would be more affordable after fitting the bits and pieces to a SCX 10.3 kit. Really think they messed up with a Jeep body, so overdone.
Instead of improving over the older, they managed to make the new one worse in every sense in package filled with useless and/or dubious features (2 speed trans, dig for classes 1 and 2) and dubious portals. I'd rather buy an Element RC or a TRX-4 Sport and put the Axial Jeep body on them.
Maybe its time for a cheap "eco" Version of the SCX 10 kit .With SCX 1 axels no wheels no ESC or motor. And a RTR Version with good budget motor/esc combo. And no dig ,2 speed or ovrdrive.
Francis... Let's get CONTROVERSIAL... *SWAP out the Portals for AR-44s!!* 😲 They should be on the UNIMOG, not a Jeep. 😖 Frankly, it's a me too gimmick that only adds about 11mm Pumpkin clearance. And remove that waste of a Roll Cage!! I'm still not buying one yet, but it's NOT reaching its full potential in that configuration. Just YEARS of experience thinking. I hope you agree. I honestly think it's got more to give, but Axial OVERDID it! 😖 *Try it.* Just AR-44 Axles and remove the Cage (maybe heavier Shock Oil), and put it back out there..... You might influence Axial's NEXT move! 😉 Remember the TRX-4 FATSO vs. the Sport? And please stay SAFE! That's most important. Carmine ✈🚂🚙
Axial has already confirmed that they are doing straight axles, and one would assume a better version than ar44 as probably offset pumkin.. Don't think too many folks would swap in ar44 axles once the straight ar45 are available. In my mind you would be better convert an scx10ii to a vanquish chassis kit if you wanted a similar and improved chassis design and superior performance. Cheers 👍
roll cage is a waste. It does nothing in there and it's barely visible. 67 grams at the worst part. 11mm clearance is a lot, percentage wise. It's like 33%.
@@Firewlkre converting an scx10.2, you can use the stock 3 gear or if overdrive is something you want the element enduro transmission bolts in to the vanquish chassis. The VFD transmission kit requires offset front axle and not all offsets are offset enough I'm told. But never done side by side comparison on the few axles available with offset. ie ssd and gmade Cheers 👍
@@RCReviewChannel AR44 is NOT ideal, but all we have at the moment... I just want to see if the lower CG makes that much difference. 😉 BEFORE I spend the only extra money this Disabled Veteran might ever see on a brand new Rig...

Would be great to see a comparison against the Axial SCX10 II with the "2017" Jeep Wrangler body. JK VS JL
Ha, ha! The 10 iii will get schooled stil since their Wrangler body is so small and light.
I was thinking the same thing

I own both with similar upgrades on each. And in my personal experience with them The .2 beats the .3 on trails and on the rocks. Hardly anyone uses dig on trails and the 2 speed tranny is stupid in any scenario. Just my opinion.
Yes sir....i like the scx10iii alot....but i have the scx10ii....too bad they discontinued the 69 Blazer....im still loving mine.....👍👍👍😁
When do you think a rtr 10.3 will come out?
In a month i think. Probably a hair under $500
RC Review sweet! Thanks for answering. One more question. Is the 10.2 honcho body able to fit into the new 10.3 body? Or do you think axial will release a new “Toyota” body for the 10.3?
Yes, it will fit perfectly. 12.3" wheelbase so any will fit. Will have to use the included body posts though.
So many “experts” here.... stock puts my SCX10ii to shame. You don’t need to run dig or two speed. Light years above
Dig is not that useful so far. It really doesn't allow harder lines to be cleared. And more opportunities to make driving errors. And the 10 iii dig won't really work under power. Our Vanquish VS4-10 dig is more useful.
Fun to play with but at a weight and complexity cost.
Good video! Thanks!
Great video very informative thanks for doing this comparison
Glad it was helpful! Our one goal is to try and be objective and tell it like it is to help folks make a better decision.
Hi.u hv any budget rc truck less than $100?
here ua-cam.com/video/L4lkRzeTgfA/v-deo.html
could you tell me were that crawling location is I live in San Jose I need new crawling spots
Join our San Jose Crawlers Group on Facebook since some of these spots are private and sensitive.
RC Review yeah I’m already in the San Jose crawlers thank you I’ll get a better look at it thanks a lot
I’m still running my og scx10 dingo. Scx10 iii or trx4?
TRX4
Thanks Buddy:)
Thanks for the video. Saludos desde Crawler RC
Hello could I fit the 1/10 scale lc80 body on the axial scx10 ii honcho?
I wonder too!
Nice footage. Very as you would expect, makes me drool for what's coming out from Axial on this new platform. Hope they do a builders kit or "sport version for want of a better word next....
Cheers mate 👍
Yup. Need a light version
Six 10-2 unimog kit is builders or can be at least.
Nice vid love the content . The III is my rig ♥️
Really glad to hear it. The iii is a great project car. Fun, realistic and a lot of things to tweak.
@@RCReviewChannel a few upgrades and I see it blowing away my buddies on the rocks . Keep it coming 👍
Great video !!
It would be more significant with Wrangler SCX10 II vs new Wrangler SCX10 III...
I've bought Blazer many months ago after seeing you review, but I was really disappointed because of its huge body... Wrangler SCX10 II is much better (It was my first Axial).
Agreed. Planning the next rounds of shootouts now. Here is the Defender vs Axial iii ua-cam.com/video/W1yb8VeG_-Q/v-deo.html
@@RCReviewChannel great planning !
Thanks for the video suggestion, I have already viewed it a few days ago, your channel is a must after having done my daily jobs 😉
Scx10.2 is great on the trail more scale. I think Capra is better than scx10 3 because more mountain crawl.
That's because it's designed to do so
Does the scx10.2 and builder kit come with the new plastics from losi?
No. It's the same old 10.2. all metal, light and flexy.
Sir, I am planning to buy new scxl .I need you to email so I can ask my question in relate.
Francis’ smile on the very last frame of this video is sinister. He may need exorcism
haha... my so-called 'work' these days....
nice job comparing everything.
It would be cool to see the same comparison without the bodies, since the SCX III is top heavy. This might show some interesting results!
We'll do that for 5 vehicles on our toughest lines.
the radius test..... thats why i ditched the panhard and went 4 link
Nice info.... now lets put a different body on the 3 and remove the inner fenders and the molded on parts on the engine. Strip it down and see how it does.
It’s always all about the looks lol must do it in style. ya know if I really care about climbing over the rocks I’d take out my drone
Add some BeefPatties up front should help the 10.3
I have a SCX10 2 TRAILBLAZER and I want another one then I'll get the 3 😁
The Chevy will be my NEXT! Top Performer & Hey..., looks for me way Better. But, its a thing of taste... cheaper also
Hopefully you can still find one they discontinued the blazer
Man please compare the Gen 8 Axe to the SCX 10.3. They will both be brushless and have better servos. I think they are comparable. I am betting the Axe would be more affordable after fitting the bits and pieces to a SCX 10.3 kit. Really think they messed up with a Jeep body, so overdone.
Ooooh... we have the footage already with the 10.3.
@@RCReviewChannel well get to work! Lol, love your channel and reviews.
So 10.2 is still a competitor and you can change everything
I think I am going to just mod the 10.2 all out since I found mine with 2 batteries for only 150
Maybe its time for a cheap "eco" Version of the SCX 10 kit .With SCX 1 axels no wheels no ESC or motor. And a RTR Version with good budget motor/esc combo. And no dig ,2 speed or ovrdrive.
It's a shame you used a SCXii with Hyrax's and no roof too do this comparison.
I'll stick with SCX10 (original) bead locks and laydown battery
1st like!!!! Love the video...
Than you very much. Took a bit of work but a lot of requests for this.
@@RCReviewChannel The scx 10 III is a real game changer.....
It is great to see the introduction of many features from Axial.
@@RCReviewChannel Yeah...real competitor for the trx4
*Try it.* Just AR-44 Axles and remove the Cage (maybe heavier Shock Oil), and put it back out there.....
You might influence Axial's NEXT move! 😉
Remember the TRX-4 FATSO vs.
Cheers 👍
Which transmission would you use with the vanquish kit?
roll cage is a waste.
But never done side by side comparison on the few axles available with offset. ie ssd and gmade
Cheers 👍
@@RCReviewChannel AR44 is NOT ideal, but all we have at the moment...
I just want to see if the lower CG makes that much difference. 😉
BEFORE I spend the only extra money this Disabled Veteran might ever see on a brand new Rig...
It's a scale trail truck......not a crawler.....want a crawler buy or make one.
Quite true.
But we all want to challenge our trail trucks sometimes. And we can see how the 10.2 and TRX4 Sport do many lines with ease.
Scx10 2 e il migliore in assoluto
