  • I repurposed an old cottonwood tree that burned in a fire and some old railroad spikes that were replaced to make a nice, simple coat rack. Enjoy!

    looks great.... those brackets or plates you installed on the back for mounting.... I've been looking for those... what exactly are they called and where did you get them...?

      Thanks +logan750a Those are keyhole hangers and you can get them at hardware stores or even on Amazon. Hope that helps.

    What was the type of spray you applied to the wood and the spikes? some sort of clear coat? Looked like the same can for both materials.

    What size drill bit an tap did you use on the RR spikes.

      +John Coonradt jr.5 Probably 1/4-20. That's a pretty standard bolt size I have in the shop. I can check tomorrow if you'd like.

      I know it's late but i just used an angle grinder and go slow. You can also use a drill bit, don't go all the way thru, and use epoxy, works great. I've made 5 and they're perfect.
