- After yet more local flooding it was time to head back to the stream in the woods! I left the lure rod behind and the plan was to using float and ledger methods to try and catch whatever I could. As usual whenever I come to this venue chub was the main species on my list to catch, so bigger hooks and bigger baits was going to be key to catching the bigger species. Although i didn't expect to catch this Illegal species!

Chris, it's great you make these videos . i can't fish in cold weather, sadly due to arthritis. Used to fish in all weathers, snow heavy frosts, eyes freezing up you know what it's like.

I came up your way on Friday for a couple hours and fished the main river, I had 3 nice perch on the river .I tried the canal which has you know was still pretty colourful,baitfish were getting smashed I covered these areas but failed to get a hit .Maybe you could do a video on fishin a coloured canal in winter.

Worms are a killer bait for trout because they often swallow them deep .I fish a river that l can use a fly for the brownies when in season but I use cheeses for chub in the winter ( less likely to hook a trout )

Where I am at in the States, wild brown trout are all through the rivers, creeks, and streams. Good fighters! As fun to catch as rainbow trout, in my experience.

I was planning on fishing the Thames, but, as you probably know its flooded, cant get near it, so hit the canal for 5 hours & not a sniff. All said, I'm a birder so some decent flocks of Redwing, couple of grey wagtail & a kingfisher so not so bad. Cheers Chris😊

Great video , most freshwater fish in America can be caught out of season and released ...except many states don't allow catch and release of trout in streams and rivers out of season . To add to the confusion some areas in some states are year around catch and release only for trout , usually in streams and rivers. Trout in large lakes are usually in season all year . Most states allow fishing for bass all year but there is a season for keeping bass .
Decided to give lure fishing a go for perch or chub, managed to catch a decent sized perch. Tough fishing at the moment even down the canal.
Could u please make a video on feeder fishing in fast rivers and a tutorial with tips and rigs please

How u doin man dono how up to date you r with your brown trout species but last year not far from me ther was a new brown trout species found in loch laidon .profundial benthivore I believe is the species .reminded me of that brown trout u caught

i never knew trout liked bread till i started chub fishing, they love it esp in urban areas where they see it often.
There is a mill pond in the village where I live and the trout take the bread meant for the ducks.
they love dough and also cheese two great bates cheap and cheerful too

Chris - not illegal to catch as it wasn't what you were trying to catch. Had you set out purposely to catch brown trout during the close season then that's illegal. Great video as usual, keep them coming

It's not illegal to catch a brown trout at this time of year, although it is illegal to specifically fish for them and keep them.

Out of season and from a muddy stream will probably taste awful not to mention if the bailiffs catch you.......

River fishing for me has been pants this year 4 pike sessions 3 blanks not going well
I mostley use Shimano STC 9 and 10ft pretty much for all types fishing dead baiting even method just easiest rod I have to get places looking at those any fish anywhere kits but not sure if toys tho prefer daiwa or Shimano rods and reels never had problems love the strange places you get some awesome fish places I'd not think be fish 😂

Is it actually illegal to catch trout at that time of year? Surely if it's illegal and they are in the river, the authorities would close the river for that period. I'm thinking that what he meant to say is that it's illegal to take trout at this time of year.
Lol i didnt know was illegal to show an out of season trout to the camera. I caught a 4.6lb brown trout last week on a deadbait and took a picture of it and posted it online. Was a pb either way..dunno if laws different here in Scotland tho but didnt hear anything back from the club waters i was fishin in.. posted it to the local fishin page for that river.

Trout have seasons in the UK. You're only allowed to catch / land them at certain times of the year
I think it's spawning season now, I think it finishes in march
You're not allowed to catch trout between October and March/April depending on your county. Its closed season for them.
It's NOT illegal to catch trout at any time of the year. It is illegal to target them in their close season.

It's not illegal to catch one though.. Just to target them on purpose and or take them for food. (Out of Season.)

I mean if it was a salmon or a shad, then I’d understand it a little more but why brown trout?
It's not illegal to accidentally catch a trout and then release it .filming it could be seen as keeping itnout of the water longer than necessary and could constitute an offence if someone were to complain . It is however illegal to deliberately target them outwith the season which runs from March to October. To kill , take or injure/mishandle a trout outwith the season is illegal in the uk . Best off just releasing it ASAP without posing for photos if you want to stay within the law at all times

The trout didnt know it wasnt meant to be caught & you dont know what you have on the hook till its in the net
England the trout season starts on the 22nd of March through to the 30th of September

Out of season
Probably because one of these reasons:
1. Species is out of season. Browns are breeding between january and march.
2. Endangered species for this stream or area. For example, in my water where i am fishing, you aren't allowed to target graylings. If exidentally caught, i have to release them and are not allowed to keep them.
As trout will take baits intended for other fish it can't be helped effectively means any fish taken out of season must be returned.
