  • In this session I decided to hit the hidden woodland stream with the ultralight setup. Straight away you could tell the wood was flooded pretty badly and you couldn't walk through most of it was the water was so deep. The plan was to Walk the bank and try to find structure to cast in. New slacks and snags created by the flooding. It took a little while to find out where the fish were hiding, but when i did it was fish after fish. All of them a good size too!

Some nice fish from a tiny stream in flood . Always impressed with you accurate casting. I often wonder how many fish are lost when a river breaches

Usually fish go with the stream if water levels are sinking. Don't think too many of them get lost in an event like that.

What I normally do for big, big chub is use live minnows. Get a minnow, put it on a smallish hook and free line it into the flow. No need for weights or shot. You just feel the line. I've had big perch with this method too. Try it. Greetings from England!
