@kccts44 It's not even close to retro. Just play the Last of Us on the PS3, and then tell me gaming has moved on to a whole new era. Go on, I dare you 🤣
@@ErekLaddI've never played it unfortunately, and hopefully it will come on Steam. I have a rule book if I don't own the game I'm not gonna emulate it, and not passing judgement on people that do emulate without owning the game. Enjoy what's been preserved guys.
@@NeddyShin to be honest with you I completely agree with this. Maybe it’s just a moral thing for me but if I can buy a game physically I will always feel better about it!
I’m currently playing Blue Dragon, and the best way to approach it is to think of it as a 16-bit JRPG with 7th-gen graphics. Essentially, focus on gameplay and stats first, and story and characters second. I’m about 15-20 hours in on ‘disc one’, and I must say, it has an awesome job system that is highly customizable.
Had this back in the day and got reasonably far but never completed it. All I can remember is that the main young male character was quite annoying, and sand sharks seemed to always slow my progress!
@@nishquikpops ohhh man. The last story & pandoras tower… I forgot about those!!!! I need to play them as soon as I can. Those are in the same category as lost odyssey for me, JRPGs I’ve always wanted to play but never have!
I’d say maybe start with tales of symphonia? Seems to be the most loved one but I could be wrong. Arise was pretty alright as well, I played that for maybe 10 hours but dropped it because I got too busy with life stuff.
Great video showing that the so called dark ages of JRPGs really weren't so dark. Had a lot of fun with eternal Sonata and Lost Odyssey. Going to share your vid on bluesky and mastodon too!
Nice finds, really makes me nostalgic for the 360 in general and the tons of games I’ve spent of playing on that system Looking forward to what you think of Lost Odyssey and other JRPGs especially Tales of Xillia which is one of my favourite JRPGs let alone one of my fav Tales games
@@madkaiser4887 Allllllmost finished with lost odyssey now. About 32 hours in at the end of disc 4 so should get a video up next week. But I think I’ll try tales of xillia next seeing as it gets some good praise!
All you need is White Knight Chronicles 2 - It includes the entire first game updated with bugfixes. It is the best way to experience part 1, plus you get the even more excellent sequel all on one disc.
The 360 struggled with Last Remnant's graphical demands. Textures would "pop" a few seconds after entering a section, loading screens sometimes happened before battles, etc. There's a remastered digital version on Playstation/Switch that eliminates the graphical glitches. It would probably be less frustrating to play. If you play Valkyria Chronicles, keep an eye out for Skies From Arcadia cameos.
@@ErekLadd A lot of people find it to be a challenging game, but it's worth it (once you throw a controller or two; I know I did when I was figuring out the gameplay). Hope you enjoy it!
I loved 3D Dot Game Heroes. It's silly fun and not really a serious title at all, but I always thought it was fun and really wish it would be released on modern consoles in some way.
Lost Odyssey has been at the top of my retro list, alongside Chrono Trigger. I always fear playing retrogames 20+ years later makes it hard to appreciate some of the magic of how innovative "random innovation" was compared to playing it when it was new. Like Chrono Trigger having enemies visible on the overworld map and numerous endings was the first of its kind, but will I appreciate it the same after having those features expected now. Ya know? Great vid dude.
Thanks so much! I've got a video I put up last week (a 10k Q&A video) where I go in depth about the guitars on the rack if you're interested. Thanks for tuning in!
The Last Remnant unfortunately does not play well on the 360. But it is the only physical you can get for consoles as the remaster is digital only on PS4. I still need to beat Infinite Undiscovered as it does have some frustrating parts from what I played
I still own White Knight Chronicles I and II. Although Final Fantasy is my favorite franchise, WKC is my favorite JRPGs. I still remember when my brother and I bought the first game on a whim because we had $20, we were Sophomores in High School and bored. Walked to GameStop and then went home. We didn’t stop playing it for weeks on end. Fantastic story and gameplay
Man it’s wild, I got Yakuza dead souls for like $4 back in 2014 and thought the game was just rancid. I thought it wasn’t even worth the $4 and got rid of it for maybe $5. Crazy what ended up happening. I think that if they remastered it, and fixed the controls it could be a half decent game but certainly not worth even half of what it’s going for now
Wow that's crazy!! Yeah it's definitely a bargain bin game and not worth the price it carries. I doubt it sold well. I had a hard time with it on steam deck but I just chalked it up to poor emulation so hoping to actually finish the game. Def not my fave game in the series but after playing every game in the series this year I figured best to just play it out. Would really benefit from a remaster that's for sure!
Fantastic video man. Great to see a pick ups video on your channel. 😎 You picked some great games. I remember Infinite Undiscovery to be a little weird but I loved it. But also I'm a sucker for Tri-Ace games in general lol White Knight Chronicles was sooooo good. It's a shame that the second one is a must, since it's basically one game devided in two.

Xillia and Ni No Kuni are 2 of my favorite games of all time. P3S and 360 era were pretty dry for me. Played mostly FPS around that time. Id recommend Folklore on ps3 Not JRPGs but I also loved the first Castlevania Lords of shadow as well as Alice Madness Returns. Lost odyssey is a game I swear ill get around to one day. I often listen to the OST knowing nothing about the game.
And alst remnant - I remember the first several hours being convulated and quite dull but it soon becomes super enjoyable and turned out to be a wicked 100% for me
I just finished up Lost Odyssey a few weeks ago after sitting on my shelf for nearly a decade, and it was SO GOOD. I loved it, loved the music, loved the characters (especially Jansen). Blue Dragon is... unfortunately not as great. Where Lost Odyssey feels like a spiritual successor to FFX, Blue Dragon feels more like an homage to Dragon Quest. Good, but inferior to its inspirations. Dragon's Crown is also excellent! I LOVE VanillaWare games, and Dragon's Crown is such great fun with friends, highly recommend going co-op if you can.
Yeah Jansen is probably my fave character in the game! Super funny. It does feel like a continuation of FFX in some ways which is really interesting. I'm interested to try out Blue Dragon soon though, seems to get mixed reviews.
