I had a '56 Sedan DeVille (4 door hardtop) that I bought in the fall of 1989. I had a buddy of mine who did body work iron out a few dings and dents and he re-painted it white with a sort of dark greyish metallic top. It was a beautiful car and when I got married in 1990 we used it as our Wedding Reception escape vehicle. I ended up selling it about a year & a half later when we had a baby on the way. That car was a boat! glided over bumps and dips like they weren't there. The song is "Who Loves you" by the Four Seasons.

Those "torpedoes" on the front bumpers were commonly referred to as "Dagmars" or "Dagmar bumpers", after a popular actress of the day whose most prominent physical attributes bore some resemblance to them. From Wikipedia: "Dagmar bumpers (also known as "bullet bumpers") is a slang term for chrome conical-shaped bumper guards that began to appear on the front bumper/grille assemblies of certain American automobiles following World War II. They reached their peak in the mid-1950s."
I was about to say the same thing. My grandmother actually knew her, she used to take care of her in her later years and has an old photo she autographed for her. By the way I can definitely see the resemblance to the bumpers.

One of my favourite Cadillacs. Timeless mid 50s styling - but without the overstated tail fins of later models.
My parents traded a 53 coupe deVille in for a 55. Medium blue bottom/light blue top. I remember the exhaust was round on the 55, and the seat material was ultra premium beautiful blue with, if I’m not mistaken, little Cadillac ‘vees’ woven into it. Thanks for this, Jay, as always…..

Torpedoes colloquially known as ''Dagmars'' of course ..this car is a rolling Dagmar ..
not only on bumpers but on the corner screen lights and someone has even put them on the wiper housing fitment.😃Jay if you come across a car with the Traffic Light prismatic reader accessory that mounted on the dashboard it would be interesting to see it work.
Dagmar was Jenny Lewis's stage name, In 1950s auto design, the slang term Dagmar bumper emerged to describe dual pointed chrome projections on the front ends of Cadillacs, Buicks, Packards, and other U.S. automobiles, an allusion to the actress's physique and trademark attire.

You look good wearing that car. Tried to buy a 56 limousine once but the owner was working on the power windows and couldn't get them working & I didn't want to take on that bother & expense. 3:52 Imagine that the Deville that sold for $220,000 had been owned by Grace Kelley or Elvis. 😃 6:41 Our family's '56 Chevy that had the gas filler tube behind the left tail lamp, too. It also had those crazy stoppers and crank for the front vents. We got locked out once, the stoppers were not locked but we still couldn't push the vent window open to get a hand in because the crank mechanism was so good, lol. 11:46 At least Cadillac was thinking of thigh support for passengers 65 years ago.
It's one bulk of of a car but I do like them! I've always appreciated the Caddys , but I do think they started getting a whole better looking in the generations that followed this one. That was a sweet looking Lincoln next to it also! 🤩 Cool video as always! 😎

As the new owner of a 56 Cadillac, I can weigh in on a con. No full flow oil filtration. Until 1961-62 Cadillac used a bypass oil filter, which only filtered a small bit of the engines oil, requiring oil changes at 2000 mile intervals. Meanwhile Oldsmobile started their Rocket V8 with modern full flow oil filtration, allowing for longer service intervals. Can't figure why Cadillac stuck with the old system besides "tradition", but Oldsmobile was actually one step ahead of Cadillac in this area
Thank you so much for adding that I wasn’t sure I knew Chevy did not have in block oil filtration until 57 I guess I figured since it was Cadillac you were above everyone else but I keep forgetting Oldsmobile was always the guinea pig so to speak and sometimes it just had better technology than the rest of the brands.. and sometimes not as good like the would 70s diesel v8 debacle
GM frequently used Oldsmibile (and to a lesser extent, Pontiac) to test out new ideas.
As a young teenager I removed a hood ornament from a 56😅 Looking back should have bought the 56 in the field.
When I was 16 I pumped gas that summer. A guy had a Cadillac like that and used to mess with the new guys. 1974 gas was 54 cents.

I was stunned to learn about the level of customization available to Cadillac customers in the 1950's. A Series 62 shopper could add the DeVille option, but Cadillac offered an entire catalog of special custom features like real wood trim pieces, or cut marble accents. Special animal skin upholstery accents in fox fur or mink were available. Custom blended colors for exterior and interior were offered for customers not satisfied with the standard colors. The luxury of endless options!

The Patina look, it’s an acquired taste it looks good on some cars and not so good on other cars this car is kind of sort of in the middle of it I think it looks good on this car
Think the ‘56 Cadillac has two floor buttons on the left of the brake peddle. One for high beam low beam and the second a floor button for a foot operated wonder bar radio switch

I will definitely hit a 54 in the future the plan is to do all of the cars as well as body styles offered especially for the 50s.. so with that said I’m going to come back and hit the 56 for the El Dorado as well as the Seville hit 75 series as well as 60 series.. =)
The 56 Chevy's have the gas filler behind the tail light as well. I've repaired / restored those signal seeking radios otherwise called "Wonder Bars".
I wonder if Oldsmobile Buick and Pontiac did anything crazy like that

It's too bad the paint is worn out and body has rust because the chrome on it is in perfect shape!
Revell made a 1956 1/32nd scale Eldorado convertible kit back in 1955 and I will be unboxing the kit and building it in the future. I will come back to this video for paint ideas and such.
The Patina look over here is pretty hot, and gives you a look that can’t be replicated so makes ones car different from all the rest

That Caddy was 97¢ per pound, nearly double the price of boneless sirloin, which was 50¢ per pound that year. Not as chewy, but delicious, nonetheless. Love the color, LOVE the chrome. I still choose the Lincoln! But, dang! That's a tough call.

What happened to the hood and the trunk lid? Looks like a problem with the paint job! The 1956 Chevy cars had the gas cap hidden behind the tail lights. Did all 56 GM cars have the gasoline cap behind the taillights?

I love your videos generally. My only complaints are that sometimes you guess at what things are by saying things like "well that looks like it might have been painted there." It might help to do a little bit more research; all that information is available out there somewhere. Ditto for comments like "those seat covers look like vinyl." Also, on your videos sometimess you quote a horsepower rating without specifying the engine RPM at which that measurement was taken. That renders the information far less useful.
Contact me if you'd like some help with the videos. I have some relevant background in old cars and automotive engineering. But overall, you're doing a great job!
The reason for some of that is to get the audience involved I’m not a material specialist, information on materials used on cars isn’t always available, the reason for sometimes having rpm and not is because in the beginning I listed types of oils and tons of specs and people said too much information it’s a fine line, I’m learning it’s impossible to make everyone happy lol
But I’m looking for more reference books like the complete book of collector cars.. do you know of some awesome reference books
This channel is different because it’s as much about the comments as the videos themselves as in the comment section adds a layer of authenticity from the people who owned these cars =)

It’s an insurance thing I can’t afford the insurance policy that you need like some of these big UA-cam channels have I watch a lot of Doug DeMuro and he talks about insurance it cost him $20,000 a year to drive the car that he drives I can’t afford that.. i’m working on it though if the cars are for sale at the Galleria I have a job there I can drive those cars and sometimes people will let me drive their cars and other times they’ll offer for me to drive their car but the last thing I wanna do is break somebody’s car.. especially when it’s a gray area like that. So that’s why I don’t get to drive all the cars
Series 60 is a Fleetwood. NOT a BOL series! It would be more accurate if you would specifically mention the cars in the Fleetwood series (Eldorado, Sixty-Special, and Seventy-Five) when reviewing them as there are those who would not know otherwise.
I appreciate what you are trying to do, however, you should do some homework before these reviews to accurately portray the cars. Do not go by word of mouth. Verify! Otherwise you will look like a fool and you won't be taken seriously. Just 'sayin.
Lots of research for every episode. Cadillacs are hard to research because of all the different series and information is spotty at best.. the other issue is one source says something another says something completely different or contradicts what another source says.

I suppose you're trying to get the car sold, so you're afraid to mention any of the faults as you usually do - sometimes it really looks ridiculous, in this case completely ignoring a large part of the bonnet that appears to be brown from years of polishing and no repaint? A little misleading, don't you think?
The owner doesn’t want to sell that car.. not every car has to be pristine in the sense of being 100 point car the fancier the cars are the more people don’t want to drive them if that makes any sense I personally like how this car was presented. It has that sweaty work, but it was clearcoated nice car looked wet when you got up to it I know it’s not everybody’s cup of tea, but it did work with this car. It looked 1 million times better in person than it did in the video clearcoat was deep.
