      Remem the fuel cap is under the left tail light, just push the quarter size reflector, the light flips up. 4dr Hard top, was a smoking hot looking auto during the fast moving car designs from '55 thru '62.

      To Mad Max
      Do you know the 1950's model TATRA from Czechoslovakia? American styled like this. FANTASTIC. But the government of the time didn't export cars, when it could have sold SO MANY of those fine cars to America, where I am sure they would have become SO famous!

    My father bought us a 1956 Series 62 in 1965 for $195 US. I drove it for years then passed it on to my sibling who drove it and later traded it for a 1963 Corvair Monza which I later ended up with. I never forgave him. The vent windows were crank others power. I remember you had to step on the brake and pull this gear shift toward you to take it out of park. I also remember it weighed 5280 Lbs until my brother removed the wheel covers, fender skirts and mufflers. It had spring mounted front & rear bumpers and when I was rear ended by a '63 Tbird it had to be towed while the only damage to the Caddy was a straight line across the rear end behind the bumper. The Caddy had an enormous 4 bbl carb mounted on a 472 ci power plant. Not so great in fast turns because of its weight but eventually it would catch its rival and leave them in the dust. VERY impressive for its day! So were the tickets I collected. I took my drivers license test in that beast and passed. My only disappointment was the vaccuum windshield wipers that would stop moving when you stepped on the gas. In my opinion th 56 & 73s were the ultimate in design and I had the privilege of owning both.

      The 472 engine had not come out yet, if it did have a 472, someone did an engine swap. My 58 cadillac has its original 365 , and thats what the 56 cadillac had also. Yes , you need to pull the transmission lever towards you, then move the lever, probably why this one wasn't moving. My 58 cadillac was bought in 1960, by my parents. I was just 1 year old. Mom gave it to me in 1982. Lifelong Southern California car, its never been abused, molested, or modified in any way. Series 62 sedan, has factory AC, power windows, wonderbar radio, power antenna. Still on the road! 😊

    That is the exact model and color my dad had. A beautiful car to ride and drive, but lots of problems. Jetaway transmission was no good, went through 4 of them. Power steering unit went through fluid badly, when we got to our local gas station they wheeled out the trans-steering fluid caddy before we even stopped at the pump. Changed about 3 steering pumps. Cylinder heads cracked between the valves, so used coolant as well. Just a beautiful, undependable car.

      How old was the car when he acquired it? My 58 cadillac that my parents bought in 1960 was very reliable till about 80.000 miles, no engine issues, but needed a new generator, and power steering pump, this was around 1967, just had the pump rebuilt again in 2009. Transmission had 1st rebuild in 2011, leaking fluid badly. Had the engine rebuilt in 2012, blowby just to excessive to put it off anymore. That was at 147.000 miles. Parts kept, block and heads, rocker assemblys, crank. Lifelong Southern California car, that may play a part in overall reliability.

    Even for a car of their vintage, there's a lot going on on those old Caddies and they're a lot of work to restore. But even done enough to make them drivers, they're pretty special once you get a chance to drive one a bit. They were the best back then, and even now that shows in how they drive even today. I hope this one found it's way to someone who wants to bring it back to it's former glory, and really enjoy it as it was made to be.

  • @elviso68
    @elviso68 Рік тому

    Oh no, what a beauty survivor. Even headliner is intact - needs to be cleaned and polished and it will be enough.

      @@robertjw99I'm honest here. Don't exactly like the looks of the car, or any of the GM cars of that year, however,THANK YOU for keeping it the way it is intended to look like with no silly wagon wheels or thin tires on it and certainly not lowering it to the ground like that either. Just keeping it the way it is intended to look like is all ya need to do.

    it's not moving, of course not, 4500 pounds on flat tires. Bring air compressor to see if tires will air up, and I always bring a come along to winch my "next project" out of it's place of slumber...but mine much lighter. It took 3 of us to push my 56 CDV into the garage, I suspect the jetaway transmission had something to do wtih that (engine was out).....curious to see what happens next !!

    Man, there are so many things wrong when they used the tow strap. I was waiting for it to snap and take out the pick up truck or worse, a person. 1. The guy standing next to the front o the truck... you want to stand clear and to the side, or even better next the the vehicle doing the towing. 2. Not having a heavy rug or a coat draped over the strap mid-point so if it does let loose, it will not fly as far back.

I had barrie metal and machine make me a bottom plate out a half inch metal and i bolted that on after hours of grinding and drilling the old rivets out. i traded that car for a harley. i wish i kept it
