I end up with a lot of these from experimenting with colors and the waste from my turns. I pack them up 5 at a time and sell them. They go very fast. You kept the right one. Looks amazeballs.
Thank You Ken, I only have a few going at a time, I don't normally have that much resin left over from my pours as I turn most of it away on to the floor ! LOL I kept the one that still had room for more, sent Jen the full cups
Can't believe Ken just said "amazeballs". 🙈🤣
Beautiful piece! I personally think the blue that you uncovered, after the slip on the lid, is even prettier than the color you originally planned to have showing. As Bob Ross says "There are no mistakes in art, just happy accidents!" 😄
Thank You Sarah
That's really cool-looking! More Fun Cup boxes, please! The light inside makes it even more awesome.
Thank You Thank You
We as wood turners never give up on a piece..lol I do appreciate you showing the mishaps as well as the triumphs..keep it up!!
Thank You Thank You
Looks great Doug! When you start the next “Fun Cup”, tip it at an angle every time you add to it. It should give you some fun shapes. Can’t wait to see that one! Have a good weekend!
Thank You Dawn, I have done that, but this was not one of the cups it was done to.
Like an acrylic pour or something
Resin! Make the rainbow, turn the rainbow!!! 🌈
…sorry, couldn’t resist!!! 😂
Seriously though, awesome job, Doug!!! ❤️❤️❤️👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Thank you Samantha, yeah I try to keep politics out of my channel, LOL oops did I say that out loud
I love 💘 these leftover resin pour projects bc they can never, ever be duplicated & surprisingly always seem to turn out almost perfect 👌 Great job Doug!
Thanks so much Rebekka 😊
Now that's right purdy. Great job! I like how a craftsman will turn a waste product into something useful and beautiful.
Thank You Eric
You're like the Picasso of total boat resin. Everything you make is beautiful.
Thank you Thank you
Well done Dougie. Over mixed resin emptied into a single cup and turned seems so much better to me than just tossing it. I see several resin makers who mix, pour, and toss the extra. This project just makes more sense.
Great “Fun Box.”
Thank You Doug, I've used the excess resin for other things too, some of my plant molds sphere's were excess resin pours also, yeah I don't like to throw out the cups either, but you can't get them clean enough sometime to pour again.
The best way to turn leftovers into something amazing!
Thank You Thank You
These little fun cups can be used for so many different things. Although, as beautiful as this one is, I would set it out to show! Great job! Bravo!
Thank You Thank You Mary
Really cool the way it turned out. I love seeing how the design develops as it gets created.
Thank You Jason
Fun cup indeed, that is beautiful Doug! Love the funky colors!
Thank You Jane
Another cool little project Doug. The light really sets it off. Well done, thx and take care
Thank You Thank You
Years ago I worked in an industrial powder coating plant, and one week I was mind numbingly bored, so I found a 12" square of scrap alloy and kept adding it to the end of every different coloured job that I sent down the line. The people in the spray booth and at packing table noticed it and I just told them it was an experiment, so they just kept spraying it like normal, and every time it came out of the oven, one of the packing guys brought it back to me.
After about 10 to 15 coats the previous coats started to sag as it went through the oven, so I drilled a couple more holes in it and started sending it through horizontally. Then when the paint was getting close to 3/4" thick on either side it began to crack, so I wound about 20' of MIG welding wire around it, and kept going. At the end of the week it was about 3" thick with 6 or 7 layers of welding wire. That weekend I cut a 3" lump off the end, and the effect was really pretty. So I cut a 3" square of it, sanded/polished the edges all flat and shiny, and gave that to my boss (He said it was a pointless thing to do, but I did notice that the cube stayed on his desk as a paperweight all the time I worked there. :) ).
As a side note. It's worth mentioning that between different colours, the spray booth got cleaned, but the level of cleaning depended on how different the next colour was. If we were going from something like bright blue to bright yellow, everything needed to be spotless, because any flecks of the previous colour would stand out like a dead Nun in a snow drift, but if the change was something like going from one cream colour to another there was hardly any cleaning needed at all. Because of this, the weeks jobs were usually organised to have as many subtle colour changes as possible to reduce down time for cleaning. This meant the slab had several bands of gently changing colours in it. There were a couple of 1/2" bands of shifting creams and whites, a nice thick band that started in yellow, went through several shades of green, and a band of deep blue that went through a few purples until it got to a vivid lilac.
The rest of the slab and the sawn off end stayed on a shelf in my little garage workshop for several years until a friend noticed it and started asking what it was. After explaining he asked what I wanted for it, so I just gave it to him. Strangely, for a guy who's a 6'1", tattooed, heavily muscled biker, with a shaved head, for a hobby he's a silversmith, and he makes quite intricate silver jewellery. Over the next couple years he made all sorts of stuff out of that slab. There was a couple of bangles, a silver bracelet with cream teardrops of the stuff wove in, a necklaces with purple beads of it, god knows how many pairs of earrings. He even tried carving some of it into a ring, but it turned out to be slightly too brittle for that. He even made me a pretty keychain out of some. It was a couple inch long polished pebble shaped piece of it wrapped in a soldered together silver wire cage. It was far too pretty to let it get scuffed up by keys in a pocket, so it hung on my desk lamp. But unfortunately, I think it got lost in one of the last couple of house moves I've made. :(
It was strange to see how something so pointless, that I'd made purely to relieve boredom several years before, then stuffed on a shelf because it was ever so slightly too pretty just to throw away, could be reborn into so many stunning items.
Thank You, long story but still pretty cool
Awesome Doug! I really like the transparency. Gives me some major ideas. Thanks!
Thank You Gary
What a cute cup!! I love how this turned out. The transparent green was really nice!
Thank you for sharing!
You are so welcome Texana! Thanks for watching
absolutely love it! these are my favorite kinds of projects. they’re one of a kind. i’d enjoy seeing you do a version of what sprague did with his leftovers this week. i think you would put your unique spin on the concept and knock it out of the park
Awesome! Thank you! Jim does some great projects over there in his shop !
Good job Doug! I really like the concept of saving the leftover resin and making something cool!! Enjoy your weekend!!
Thank You Harold, have a great weekend
That's so beautiful what a fantastic way to use of resin without just dumping it.
Thanks so much 😊
Love the colors in it! Great job!
Thank You Heidi
Cool as always, Doug! I love mixing the leftovers together for different looks. Just the smart thing to do based on the cost of resin for sure. I am always impressed with how you get a nice cut with traditional tools on resin. One day I hope to be that good!
Thank You Daniel, it's a feel kind of thing, and a not so sharp tool, you get shards with a really sharp gouge, start off kind of push scraping lightly and slow, then transfer that to a normal push cut, once you get the feel for it, it will come easier and easier
Pretty cool. Turned out really nice.
I've done one with chunks of small wood scraps stuck in the jar first. I use a plastic peanut butter jar.
Working on filling the 2nd one.
So now I know what to call them.
Thanks for getting the video up.
I always enjoy them
Thank You Steven, I'm pretty sure Fun Cups was the name we all came up with for it after Jen called it that.
I have a few of these cups sitting around wondering what to do with them. Now I know! Thanks for sharing.
Thank you Dennis
so good with a light in it!. Love the green!
Thanks so much Tanya!
What a beauty and functional using leftovers! Brilliant x10!!
Thank You Thank You
Beautiful lidded fun cup Doug. Well done.

Thanks so much Tracey!
I really like this creation. The many colors are fun. Thanks for the videos!
Thank You Kelli
I like how it turned out. Really like what you did with the base, that sets the whole thing off
Thank You Mark, I was only going to put a waste block on it and found that piece on the shelf while look for a block.
Very nice! The light added to it.
I think so too! Thank You Laura
Sweet fun cup Doug! That lid is perfect for it! 👍🏻👍🏻
Thank You Bruce
Doug, another awesome creation. I’m really digging the contrast of colors. The bottom of the lid to the outside is outstanding. Have a great weekend.

Thank You Thank You Thank You
Yeah, those are nice! Beautiful work!
Thank you very much William!
Always love your productions. Thank you for sharing.
My pleasure! Thank You for watching Daniel
This gives me inspiration to get back into resin! I have a small DIY resin kit I got for fun and I stopped because a few of my molds weren't curing (I have a 4 month old "shot glass" that is still soft) and a few others had lots of holes (bubbles). Another reason I stopped was because I felt like I was wasting resin (broke a few cups actually trying to get the resin out. Good thing they're plastic) but this gave me an idea to start layering a mold! Thank you!
Thank You and you are welcome, I would think your mix was off if your projects are still soft, to much hardener tend to make for soft resin not enough make it brittle, it's really weird how it seems to work, unless you are using a table top resin, in that case it's designed to self heal, it will always stay soft and never polish up with out a coat of something else on it.
What a clever way to use the leftover resin! And I think it turned out beautifully!
Thank You Thank You Diann
Hi Doug, wow I love love love the colors. I think it's spectacular jar. I know you wanted the knob. But I love it the way it is. What a great save! Thanks so much for sharing
Thanks so much Gregory!
Good one. Like the transparency in it.
Thanks again Elizabeth
Greetings Doug, this has given me an idea to use up some of my leftovers cheers. Great job, looks awesome, keep smiling.
Thank You Peter, you can do it !
Doug I've been saving these for so long I have all kinds of sizes. I've been thinking of cutting some up throwing them in a bigger cup and draining more over those and then turning it. May still do that. Anyway love seeing how people repurpose left overs from older projects. Love it with the light
Thank You Chris, I find if you don't over think it and just go with it, the are will make it's self

Thank You Fred, Glad to help!
I really like when you have one of your “blowups” you just power through and come out with something beautiful.
It looks like a Murano piece.
Keep doing you ❤️🔥
Thank you so much Norma!
I love it Doug! That's so cool. You should keep more fun cups.
Thank You Lola, I suppose I should
Szuper!!!!!Megint egy csodálatos forma,különleges színösszeállítás.Üdvözlet, szép hétvégét!!!🙂👍👍👍
Még egyszer köszönöm Ági, szép hétvégét!!!
I need more, btw!! 😉😉
My current work in assembly has one of yours at the bottom, a little one of Kim's at the top, and I need a 3rd for the middle. Unfortunately I had already turned the other one into a smaller item before this idea came into my mind.
oh NOoooooo, maybe I will make one up at some point but I only had the one left, if it would of fit into the box I wouldn't of had it either.
Can’t believe I not seen this previously! I’ve been a bit poorly so not been about much but I’m slowly catching up. Loving the final piece
it's ok Lisa, you've seen it now, I do hope you get better soon, Thanks again for watching
Beautiful piece from a fun cup 👍👍👍👍
Thanks so much Radar😊
That came out really pretty, buddy! Even without the knob you wanted.
Thank You Billy, but I wanted a knob on it !
Stunning piece, funky and all. 👍🏻🇺🇸
Thank you kindly Jessi
Great little project Doug. Turned out really good. Whenever I see or make a ‘ fun cup’ my first thought is always ‘Sphere!!’
Thank you very much Pete! I have made Eggs out of them but I am not good enough to make sphere's yet
@@PohlBarnProductions haha. Neither am I mate. I use a sphere jig on the lathe. Might be worth checking one out!
I made some back when I first started this channel and they've set on the shelf ever since.
That came out great, Brother! You work well under pressure👍
Thank you Steve! Cheers!
These are really beautiful!!! Love them lit up! You should make these and sell them. I would definitely buy 4. I love the shine of the lacquer on them!
Thank you so much! Time is my only issue, trying to get the next project up and do something else becomes a conflict
As a hippy chick, the cup o’ leftovers reminded me of a chunky drip candle. The finished cup, well, I’d use that for storing my..stuff. Cool!
Thank you , LOL Stuff !!!
Some people can take leftover food and make a wonderful meal. You take leftover resin and make a marvelous treat jar! Oops often become wows it's all in the eye of the beholder! In other words I like it!
Awesome Pixie, Thank You !!!
Very nice! And fun! 😸
Thank you Trincia! 😄
That is an extremely cool way to use leftover resin. I would definitely buy ne.

This turned out pretty funky. I like it. It was cool watching the lid change color as you turned it. Try different sized containers for the next batch. 😀
Thank You Julie,
The last I made with either the backlight or light inside really makes it pop.
Thank You Lee
Looks good, Doug. I'm glad you left the wood base on it.
Bill
Right on, Thank You Bill
I am quite seriously in love with this little box! I am looking for a keepsake urn for a portion of a friend's ashes. This would be wonderful! She was only 35 & has a 6 year old daughter without a father. All I'd need to find is a small name plaque.
Thank you Amy, I think my wife put it into the Etsy store.
That's really cool-looking
Thank You Glenn
Cool night light for the night stand.
Thank You Ron
I ENJOYED WATCHING THE WORK AND HEARING THE WORK SOUNDS OF THE WORK AND THE TRUTH OF WORKING AND MAKING A VIDEO OF THE PROSES ( NOT ALL IS GREAT BUT THE RESULT IS STEEL GREAT :)

Now I know that I am not a subscriber that long, but I can not remember seeing you do something like that, but I really like it Doug. It has a kind of spooky glow and a class of style at the same time. I really enjoy watching your videos my friend, thank you and have a great weekend. 👍👍👍
Thank You, you've been here with me for most of my UA-cam life, I have not used one for anything like this before, I have used them to make eggs for Easter one year.

Yes Sir ! Thanks again Luie
