There is a very low chance of you reading but you're probably one the best people on UA-cam to talk about boa constrictors because you run through literally everything there is I've seen about 5 complete videos about boa constrictors in aquariums they run through the very basic nothing about the health conditions and how to convince them and have to say thank you
its so good to see a care guide where people arent reccomenind you just put a fully grown boa in a 4x2x2 with a heat mat. i appreciate this video a lot!
This has been very helpful mate thank you!. I recently adopted a 9 foot Boa she was a store mascot and it's safe to say she hasn't had the best life so far. I'm currently working on upgrading her enclosure adding in more floor space and height so she can climb and stretch out till her heart's content. Plus far more enrichment for her. The enclosure she was in was completely bare with just a log, substrate and a water dish with only 3 feet of floor space and 5 and half feet tall. Thanks too you I now have the know how to make such a big snake happier then it's ever been on behalf of myself and Kaa thank you!
Always really enjoy your videos. Would love more Boa videos. Found a few decent boa videos on UA-cam, but I definitely agree with your thoughts on care. You helped me decide I was definitely going to get UV lighting. Nova spends a lot of time sitting out in the open in the middle of his tank. So he’s soaking up plenty UV. Keep em coming!
I’m a recently new boa owner and I just wanted to let you know that this video was so helpful and informative! I’ve done a lot of research and you’ve done a great job explaining far more simply than many sites and videos that I’ve gone over. Also using a pond filter cover as a large hide is absolutely ingenious!
Yeah being able to find pieces that can withstand their heavy body for climbing lol. I don't have lights but I do keep my snakes I enclosures not racks so they get plenty of day light from my room. Great video!
This is the first notification l have had in months and went oh my goodness Dan. How are you doing? Boy 8 foot, you never know what you will get when it comes to size, some really surprise you. Wow that is a huge enclosures and boy oh boy he will need a bigger one for sure. Always a great video and information.
I enjoyed seeing this again - great setup. Re enclosure suppliers: I needed a new enclosure for my rainbow boa a while ago, as my vivexotic proved unsuitable for high humidity. I ordered a polypropelene one from Vipervivs: the product is excellent. This company makes various standard sizes, but will make non standard ones to order. The quality is superb, and the service was first rate.
As soon as the video started and I saw the branches and cork or what's it called, the one with the hole in it, and plants etc... I immediately LOVED your enclosure!
Awesome video! May be my second video in UA-cam history that I’ve liked. I will be getting a Juvenile Guyana shortly and I’m taking the necessary steps and preparation to make sure his enclosure is PERFECT. I’ve actually been taking a lot from your videos to apply it to my own. His enclosure is 21 inches deep. I purchased a zoo-med 24” UVB hood reflector that came with a Zoo-med T5 5.0 high output bulb that will cover HALF of the enclosure. In other UA-cam videos after a screen, 1 foot down, with a radiometer there is readings of 50uW/cm2 which is in zone 1. And his basking spot would be around 14inches from the bulb and all else would be 18” which there is ~25uW/cm2 - almost nothing. Per the Ferguson zone or UVI boa’s should sit in zone 2. I feel the Arcadia bulb would be PERFECT but they are extremely hard to find here in the states. So to wrap this book up, do you think the 5.0 is good enough? Or should I go for a 10.0 which is essentially double the uW/cm2. I plan to only have it on for 4-5 hours simulating peak UVB like seen outside. Input would be very greatly appreciated. I know Boa’s don’t technically need it but as you’ve said, you probably wouldn’t feel too good not getting those rays and it definitely can be beneficial to the snake. I’ve done so much research and near driven myself MAD haha but it’s fun to learn and will be rewarding to see a healthy, beautiful Boa.
Sounds like you’ve really thought things through! Personally, I would go with the 5.0 bulb for a boa. Whilst they will make their way to higher basking points from time to time, they’re more likely to be lower down, with diffused light breaking through a tree canopy :)
Thank you so much for this video! I'm planning on getting a young boa in a few months, and as it will be my first pet reptile/snake, I want to make sure I'm prepared and fully understand what I need to do to have a healthy, content, and long-lived animal. I found this very helpful, so thanks again! Zeke is one lucky boy. =)
Fantastic video mate thanks sooo much! Just getting really interested in keeping snakes, am gonna "cut my teeth" with a Ball Python but a beautiful chunky Boa is my dream snake!! Thanks for all the amazing info and your enclosure looks awesome!
Thank you for this video. I'm hoping to get a boa constrictor at some point this year and this and your video on how to prepare for a new snake are best I've seen to have a happy healthy pet. The pond filter cover as a hide is brilliant. I'll probably ultimately build my own enclosure once the snake gets large enough to need a large one. I figure a smaller one to start would be fine for several years and then I'll have that for another snake at some point.
Love all your videos! Can you please make a video all about heating? Heating bulbs, UVB, heating pads, probes, thermostats if recommend, anything would be appreciated :)
Thank you for all the details in this video! you answered so many of my questions, some i didnt even know i had but i'm glad i know the answers to them now! :) just stumbled onto your channel trying to find out info about boas, defs subscribing to check out more later. I've never had a snake before even though ive always loved them, so I'm doing lots of research to figure out the right snake for me when i can have my own place someday. Currently boas are at the top of the list, and this has to be one of the best resources i've found!! it gives me a super clear idea of what it'd be like to keep a boa day to day. I also really appreciate how much you clearly care about Zeke by making sure he has the biggest and most enriching enclosures, that definitely the route i want to go but it's not been easy to find very clear examples of this. he's so lucky to have an owner like you, thank u for sharing ur advice and wisdom about him, i really really appreciate it!
Thanks so much for your kind words. It means a lot :) great to hear your interested in getting a boa! They’re fantastic snakes, so rewarding to keep. Treat them well and they’ll be wonderfully docile, sweet matured animals :)
1) What do you consider the age range for a juvenile in months? 2) What spectrum of UV are you using? A? B? 3) where do you keep the thermostat probe so he doesn’t knock it out of the way causing heat to shoot up? Thanks man. Great stuff
I would feed an adult boa.... Even less frequent than every 21 days. Such a good job on this video though. It makes me happy seeing people taking care of their animals like this. ❤
Thank you! I’ve actually moved him to feeding every 4 weeks now. He’s not overweight, but I feel like it’s time to space his feeds that little bit more now :)
This was an absolutely wonderful video. I don't have (or plan to have) a boa but I still watched the whole thing because it's so interesting and just a joy to watch. I was wondering, is there any way to get in touch? A channel email address or something? Would be very much appreciated.
Really good to have another video from you at last, very good as always. To get temperatures and humidity spot on one needs to know which subspecies one is looking after, as there are variations. My b.c. amarali is from Bolivia, and needs lower temperatures than a b.c. constrictor (red tail), which need the temperatures you state; the red tails need humidity at the higher end of the range, and are rather more delicate than b.c. imperator; they are prone to regurgitation, and grow to be large (females can reach ten feet). Almost every time I mist the substrate, my boa emerges from her hide and becomes active - not sure why: my other snakes do not do this. I, and many others I am sure, would love updates on some of your other animals! How's Mopani?
Thanks John, some great info there! I should have specified this info was for the imperator :) Mopani is doing really well thanks! Growing like a weed!
Dav Kaufman did a great herping in Brazil video and found boa constrictors are commonly found in the same locations as Brazilian rainbow boas which we keep at 70-80% humidity. So true, depends on locality
Thank you! Check out my substrate vid, you’ll see the complete mix there :) I’ve got a cleaning video too! It’s the same as with the smaller tanks, just takes a smidge linger
Now i know why my boa is rubbing his nose on glass lol, nothing he can hurt himself with tho, he's a healthy boy! I have a female but she is not up to size so he'll have to wait lol! Thanks tho i have learned something from this
Hmmm I'm 13 and my brother's friend's friend is giving away their boa and i'm not sure whether to take it we have 2 cats! I hope it wont attack them or anything... Plus my dad would take his snake out that he had as a kid and put it in the bathtub when feeding it so the snake wouldn't associate his hand with food, do you think that would be fine?
No need to put the snake in the bath for feeding, it only causes unnecessary stress. Feed them in their enclosure. As for the cats, as long as they’re kept away from the snake it shouldn’t be an issue. I have a cat, and he’s not allowed in the room when any of the snakes are out. No issues :)
Was wondering what other foods can boa constrictors eat besides the ones you listed. I want to get something different than frozen rats. Also I know some enclosure materials arent good for snakes. How much substrate do you usually use in your snake's environment. I use a grass mat so clean up is less messy. Not sure if it was a bad choice tho. As I do want my snake to be more excited about her enclosure. Her cage is about 48.5 inchs long and 13inch wide and 20.5 in height. Her set up is pretty standard. I have a hide for her, probably have to upgrade the hide tho since she is getting a bit bigger.. A few green plastic plants, a water dish..... wasn't sure how to properly clean decoration for her cage. How can I make her cage more enriching? Thank you!
Isn't Zeke a female? the larger size would suggest so. Also really informative upload, I love your setup and it's good to know you plan on upscaling at some point. Saved and subbed, Peace!!!
@@JensensReptiles Ive been researching where to get larger vivs from (i plan on getting a BCI or BCC next year) and came across Southdown Aquatics. I dont suppose the're who you had a bad experience with? if not then check them out if you're in the UK.
Did you ever have an issue with your boa wriggling around like crazy while you held her? Mine has this occasionally usually she calms down once her little tail feels secure. But the other day she totally flipped and I had to put her back. Heard it is more any issue with young ones. She's 1.5 yo btw. What do you reckon, will it subside once she gets older and/ or is there something I can do to help her?
Super normal. Young boas can be really squirmy. Zeke used to go completely straight while I was holding him, and then toss his head to one side, almost flipping out of my hands completely. So to handle him, I’d lift the middle of his body, followed by his tail, then bring him close to my body so he’d feel more secure
I know you said you wouldn't answer health questions but the veterans around here don't really know anything about snake care and i was just given a boa that hasn't eaten in 6 months looks pretty young and i don't know if i should feed him extra for a while to help he gain weight or keep him on a normal feeding schedule and let the snake gain the weight back slowly
Feed slowly :) you don’t want to stress a starved digestive system. So slowly increase food size. Boa metabolism is slow, so no need to overfeed, it won’t help.
Thank you so much. And i really have know idea what im doing but iv always wanted a large snake but never really thought it would be something id actually have but when someone told me the conditions the snake was living in and no one else to take the snake i had to jump on it but any advice or help you could give would be very appreciated i just want the best for him/her
From a variety of places. Straight from the person who can’t take care anymore, or from a rescue centre. If you’re in the UK, Brighton RSPCA reptile rescue is a great starting point
He might take in the odd piece from now and then but it’s not really anything to worry about. I make sure his rats are dry so nothing sticks to them, and I usually offer him is food on top of his long piece of bark. Just so it’s a flat surface
Great video, I'm hoping to get a boa or bloody python (Different care I know) once I'm more established and living on my own. Do you have any concerns about the wood paneling warping or rotting due to the humidity? Also what are questions you should ask a boa breeder before getting one?
As long as the enclosure is properly sealed (I use aquarium grade silicone) there’s no risk to the melamine boards. As for questions. You should ask to see the records since birth, a good breeder will have all of this written down. Sheds since birth, and any issues, all feeds, any issues with bowel movements. You should also ask where the parents came from, and make sure they’re not related.
Great video. I know you said you wouldn't name the company you brought the vivarium from and I understand that but what companies would you recommend? Don't want to end up choosing the same one you went for if they are really bad customer service
How are your Microclimate OLED thermostats working for you Dan? I remember them from an earlier video and im thinking of getting one of the dimmers..... or would you recommend something else? Your Boa is looking lovely btw : )
Hey Paul! I really like the OLEDs, looking to replace all of my older stats with them at some point. I’ve had one faulty one, but microclimate are great at replacing them or fixing them quickly :)
@@JensensReptiles that's good news. I was habistat all the way up until the first problem I had with them. To be fair I'd had quite a few of them for a long time with no issue, but then I had one. Tried emailing them 3 or four times without reply, I'll probably never use them again. I've heard great things about Microclimates customer service too and the OLED'S must be at least pretty good as their sold out everywhere. I'm on a waiting list, they say its gonna be up to a week : / I'm sure it'll be worth the wait.
Yeah, I’ve used habitat before and generally been very happy until having an issue and encountering a lack of customer support. Microclimate have never let me down, been using their stuff for over a decade now and very happy for sure! Let me know how you get on with the OLED Paul! Personally, I really like the night time temperature drop feature
I'm only at the beginning👍 but if she's a rescue how are you sure he's a he, I'm actually taking care of a neighbous sons because he got kicked out boa she 9ft and 8 years old but when she came to me her vivarium was grose super super grose 🤢 poor baby.... Anyhu my question is she has bend marks like all her scales are turned out where she bends is this normal, also she never goes on her warm side she's in the hide on the cold side this is how she was set up at her previous home with no hide on the warm side my ball python spends all his time on the hot side but I know there diffrent snakes so I didn't know if to offer her a hide on the warm side... Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you
We are in the process of building an enclosure for our boa. You have 2 round 'vent' like structures on the back wall. Are those for ventilation and if so are you able to open and close them? If you can't, do you loose a lot of humidity/heat through them? Also, about how wide are they?
I like your snake freedom mentality and enclosure sizing wishes also for my squeezy now she is 2 meter and few sm and she is in 190sm enclosure. I want to get her abt 8ft one but bit deeper and higher , my girl is todays 7th birthday. I like, the massive tree. I hope isn't too hard to clean when he pees. I have similar heat point controlled by profffetional thermostat. Humidity flows in via hole and cable with timer and machine so I only have, to filter water and fill in. Always perfect humidity goes ups and downs bc of timer. Without mashine no humidity stays in. I love this hide has small opening so snake feels secure :) light is also on timer. I like the idea of basking uv light but my girl won't go out she goes from hole to hole she loves her hides and hate open spaces and she loves being in my bed board wall under pillows. Squeezy hates going in the water. She is 7 years old and eats once in 3 4 weeks depending on foot size. Nice you mention the infections. Well for the amount of time this video is u did amazing lesson for basic care. I'm impressed waw. Make a video on socialising and snake freedom times :) he is so cute x gr from me and squeezy on her bday
@@JensensReptiles I hope she did :) I played her happy birthday on my violin and gave her food. She don't take from me anymore. She likes, drop feeding. She spended last days in my room so nwo full belly humid and warm for her so I hope she is fine. And soon when gets warm again we go out a lot :) love your enclosure ideas I can't wait to build her smt better
I'm going to be getting a baby bci male and I'm just wondering if you think that a 5ft by 2ft by 2ft would be suitable for him at least for a few years please
Yup! Should be absolutely fine! My boy was in a 4x2x2 comfortably when I got him at 3 years old (even though his growth had been stunted by bad keeping at that point) and he outgrow it at 5. As long as you’re prepared to upgrade when you need to, all is good!
@@JensensReptiles ok good I wasn't sure if it would be suitable for him but at least now I can get on with looking for 1 thanks for the help great video
It is indeed. Firstly, it’s left to dry out after cutting, this is when you’ll notice if there are any wood borers. If not, you can give it a good soak and get any other pests off that way. Or freeze. But I prefer to pop it into a big plastic bag and give it a quick mite spray if I’m overly concerned. For the most part though, there’s not much to worry about in my part of the world
So this isn't about the video, although it's a good video, but I have a giant African land snail and I've woke up from hibernation (I've done this every year since I got him around five years ago, no problems) and I think he's stuck or having trouble getting out of his shell, could anyone please give me advice
Yup, for minimum standards, that’s just about ok. But I’d prefer to offer as much space as possible so my snakes can fully extend their spines and avoid any issues down the line.
i’ve been considering boas lately and also a beardie, and ive been thinking of keeping them in roughly 8x2x2 ft PVC vision enclosures (obviously consideration for exceptions in size/willing to upgrade an enclosure) and stacking two or three boa habitats, which will be using thermostat controlled heat mats from the side, with the beardie’s enclosure stacked on top, to accommodate the lighting and basking light for them. i wasn’t planning on using lighting (other than natural from a bedroom) for the boas, do you think this is feasible??
You may need to make a few adjustments. Firstly, heat mats are in now way suitable for a boa or an 8ft enclosure. You’ll either need an internally statted heating unit, or two ceramics. And yeah, you’ll still need lighting to keep your snake properly. Having an idea of what time of day it is will help them know when to hunt for food, when to relax etc. It sets their whole rhythm.
Jensen's Reptiles after posting, i went and did more research, and determined that i was incorrect; CHEs and UVB strips would be much better for the boas, though it’ll be a bit before getting any of these animals, i’d rather work out the kinks beforehand so they’ve got as smooth a transition as possible- thanks for replying! and as i understand it, UVB strips get less effective with time and eventually just give off visible light; if this is the case, when do you recommend those to be changed out?
The manufacturer will let you know. The better the quality, the longer they last. I opt against uv strips though, they can pose a hazard for the snake. I prefer a guarded compact Uv which provides a basking zone
Heatmats just aren’t suitable for boas if you want to do things right. Larger snakes can create a thermal block and get a pretty nasty burn. It’s also pretty unnatural to get heat from below. Aim for overhead heating :)
I got a baby boa constrictor and I have a question, should I make him an enclosure like this now that he is a baby or should I keep him in a fish tank and build him an enclosure like this when he gets bigger? Also what material is that enclosure made of?
The enclosure is made of melamine boards :) and as far as when it’s the right time to upgrade. That’s your call. As long as your snake always has space to stretch his spine out completely, you’re doing fine. The bigger the better in my book though!
i have a 103cm long boa constrictor imperator and i don't know really much about him.. i think he is like 1 or 2 years old is it okay if i feed him a medium/small rat?
Heya! Without seeing him or the rats it’s hard to tell. You want the prey to be no bigger than his widest part. It should leave a small bulge once eaten. At 3 years old I fed Zeke every 2 weeks, he now eats every 4-5 weeks, so consider your feeding schedule as well as the prey size :)
It depends on how young you get them really, but as long as they enclosure is cluttered for youngsters and they can’t escape, starting with a bigger size is fine
Jensen's Reptiles ok cool, how would you mount that inside the cage, I see that you have protectors on all your light bulbs/heat bulbs but is there any particular way you would set it up? Obviously on one side so you have a gradient but what kind of protector/ dome would you use?
I’d rather not recommend the company. They were just terrible. I’ve recently bought custom vivs from repti-life though. They’re incredible! Great quality and amazing customer service for a good price too!
@@JensensReptiles yeah. Somepeople say heatmats are better than che for boas. Im eleven years old. I know most of the care they need(still researching) i know they are heavy bodied and have more chance to bite then bp. Do u think i can handle it. And is the UVB essential? Love ur channel btw ❤️
Heatmats shouldn’t be used with boas at all, definitely use heat from above where possible :) They can get very big as well (Zeke is now nearly 8ft long and he’s incredibly strong) so if you do go with a boa, make sure someone is nearby when you handle them :) UV isn’t essential so to speak, but it’s so beneficial it’s definitely worth using
Damn you couldn't make this video whenever he was actually out of his cage? 25 minutes of not being able to see him and a couple of measly pictures at the end of the video!? Wow. I would have loved to have actually saw him.
Please take your misinformation elsewhere. Zeke is almost 8ft long. And you suggest a 6ft enclosure? that’s pretty cruel in my opinion. I’d never take the advice of a money grabbing breeder over common sense. I’ll keep my animals properly thank you.
@@JensensReptiles most people don't even keep them in 6ft long ones most only do 4ft 6ft is plenty all 15 of my big boas 9 to 11ft are in 6ft cages and are doing amazing eating great shedding great breeding great you don't know what your talking about some young kid new to reptiles or only a few years in I've been keeping boas for close to 40 years think I know a bit more then you bud
Firstly, I’m not a young kid. Secondly, just because you’ve been doing it for a long time, doesn’t mean you’ve been doing it correctly. But you keep doing it that way if you want to. In my views and many others, that’s really poor husbandry. I’m happy knowing my snakes can all stretch out and climb if they want to.
@@JensensReptiles far from poor it's what 90% of keepers keep them in do a poll and ask the size bet I'm right what are you gunna keep a 15 to 20 ft reticle in a 20ft lomg cage no people keep 15ft retics in 6 to 8ft cages because that's what they need
Bloody hell. I’m done here. It’s like talking to a brick wall. Just keep doing what you want and I’ll keep doing what I want. Talking to you is pointless.
He comes out regularly and has the option of using the bath if he wants to. Even when he was young he wasn’t much of a soaker, so I’ve made the decision on his bowl size after knowing MY snake well. That being said, I do plan to provide him with more space as soon as I can. In the meantime, you might want to learn a little bit about how to politely communicate your opinion, because currently....that sucks.
I'm still yet to see another full grown boa on youtube that their own has invested as much time money and effort as yourself, great job sir!
Thank you so much! He’s a pleasure to keep
Omg I was like WHY IS HIS EXCLOSURE ONLY 32 DEGREES? But then he said Celsius and I face-palmed at my own stupidity.
This gave me a good giggle 😂

Love all your videos! Can you please make a video all about heating? Heating bulbs, UVB, heating pads, probes, thermostats if recommend, anything would be appreciated :)
Sure thing!
Awesome video! You take such excellent care of him! 😊
Thank you! He’s a good boy :)
Treat them well and they’ll be wonderfully docile, sweet matured animals :)
cant find a single boa care video online that actually provides links and infomation on setting stuff up not just "i use this" advice
Well you’re more than welcome to ask specific questions. I have a global audience, so talking about my local pet shop isn’t always helpful.
Great vid. Thank you ☺️
1) What do you consider the age range for a juvenile in months?
2) What spectrum of UV are you using? A? B?
3) where do you keep the thermostat probe so he doesn’t knock it out of the way causing heat to shoot up?
Thanks man. Great stuff
3-12 months for a juvie. I use UVB. Aaaand, the probes are pinned to the back of the enclosure under the heat source, they can’t be knocked
Thanks again! Big help for my yearling who’s ready for an upgrade
Can you link me where I can get that hide?? I’m rescuing a 6ft boa this weekend and I need a good hide for him. Thanks
It’s actually a pond filter cover 😂

Good content and good advices!
Thank you!
Thanks so much :) you can reach me via my Jensen’s reptiles Facebook page, or drop me an email to dan@jensensreptiles.com
I should have specified this info was for the imperator :)
Mopani is doing really well thanks! Growing like a weed!
Dav Kaufman did a great herping in Brazil video and found boa constrictors are commonly found in the same locations as Brazilian rainbow boas which we keep at 70-80% humidity. So true, depends on locality
That’s really interesting! I’ll check the video out, thanks guys!

It’s 13 min 30 sec in he talks about it if you’re interested
Thanks so much!
Awesome video man. What kind of substrate is this? Also how do you normally go about cleaning a tank that big?
Thank you! Check out my substrate vid, you’ll see the complete mix there :)
I’ve got a cleaning video too! It’s the same as with the smaller tanks, just takes a smidge linger
Do you think you could do a video on. How to read a snakes body language. And how to handle them correctly
Great thinking. If I come back to UA-cam I’ll add it to the list!
Hiya bro!! good to see a new vid up!
Cheers dude!
@@JensensReptiles Jealous of that bark hide! aha i go everywhere and i never come across a beautiful piece like that aha
One of my colleagues found it and brought it into work for me. Such a good find!

great guide!
Yes this is the snake I have been looking for
Wonderful very informative
Now i know why my boa is rubbing his nose on glass lol, nothing he can hurt himself with tho, he's a healthy boy! I have a female but she is not up to size so he'll have to wait lol! Thanks tho i have learned something from this
My only problem I have with getting a boa is where to get a 8 foot or an even longer enclosure. Anyone have any recommendations?
If you’re in the UK, repti-life vivarium do awesome custom vivs
Thank you for your information - it’s extremely useful!! Where do you get your hides from though please?
Thanks so much, sorry for the delayed reply!
The hide is actually a pond filter cover. You can get them from most pond supply stores :)
Nose rub, only the males doing it or does the females do it as well??
Thank you!
Can you tell me please the dimensions of the Pond Filter Rock cover? Thanks!
Hi,the heating from above will do also for a brb?
Is that a custom built enclosure? Im currently looking where to buy an 8ft cage in the US.
Yeah it’s a custom. The company only deliver within the UK though I believe
Isn't Zeke a female? the larger size would suggest so. Also really informative upload, I love your setup and it's good to know you plan on upscaling at some point. Saved and subbed, Peace!!!
Nah, he’s a male. Just a big one!
@@JensensReptiles wow, he's a big boi alright!
And i really have know idea what im doing but iv always wanted a large snake but never really thought it would be something id actually have but when someone told me the conditions the snake was living in and no one else to take the snake i had to jump on it but any advice or help you could give would be very appreciated i just want the best for him/her
Hi mate where do you get your rescues from? I’ve been looking to start rescuing snakes
From a variety of places. Straight from the person who can’t take care anymore, or from a rescue centre. If you’re in the UK, Brighton RSPCA reptile rescue is a great starting point
Jensen's Reptiles perfect mate Yh I’m not too far I live in West Midlands
How do you stop Zeke from ingesting bits of substrate when he eats?
I’m looking to buy my future vivs from ADT, they have great reviews. I’m happy with vivexotic for the most part too :)
Do you know the name of the company that makes the guards for the UV strips please.
Great video btw : )
Thanks :) Arcadia make them

I'm on a waiting list, they say its gonna be up to a week : /
I'm sure it'll be worth the wait.
Thank you
I take all my animals to the vet to make sure they’re healthy when rescued. I’d recommend anyone do that when they take an animal in.
We are in the process of building an enclosure for our boa. You have 2 round 'vent' like structures on the back wall. Are those for ventilation and if so are you able to open and close them? If you can't, do you loose a lot of humidity/heat through them? Also, about how wide are they?
The vents are always open. Heat is lost a little but on purpose, for air flow. Not many species like stagnant air :)
They’re about 8cm in diameter
Do you have any tips for breeding?
Thanks so much for your lovely comment. I hope Squeezy had a great birthday!
Is that a real tree? If so, how do you make sure its 'clean'
For the most part though, there’s not much to worry about in my part of the world
😎😎😎 another video 👌👌👌
please can you do more videos on carpet pythons as im thinking about getting one
if you cant do any videos have you got any tips for me

My room is 12 by 13 lol when I get my female bcc I may as well just move to the couch and give her my room lol
Zeke has my flat mates room. No joke, I had to ask him to move out so my snakes could have the space. Priorities.
So this isn't about the video, although it's a good video, but I have a giant African land snail and I've woke up from hibernation (I've done this every year since I got him around five years ago, no problems) and I think he's stuck or having trouble getting out of his shell, could anyone please give me advice
Not sure if anyone else has pointed this out but and 8ft snake is fine is a 6 by 2 or even a 5 by 3.
Mine is 8ft and is on a 4 by 4 coffee table I made up
Yup, for minimum standards, that’s just about ok. But I’d prefer to offer as much space as possible so my snakes can fully extend their spines and avoid any issues down the line.
Also would an 8ft male paired with a 7ft female be acceptable
I don’t have any breeding advice sorry. The market is flooded with boas, and with hundreds in rescues, I don’t recommend breeding at the moment
i’ve been considering boas lately and also a beardie, and ive been thinking of keeping them in roughly 8x2x2 ft PVC vision enclosures (obviously consideration for exceptions in size/willing to upgrade an enclosure) and stacking two or three boa habitats, which will be using thermostat controlled heat mats from the side, with the beardie’s enclosure stacked on top, to accommodate the lighting and basking light for them. i wasn’t planning on using lighting (other than natural from a bedroom) for the boas, do you think this is feasible??
Jensen's Reptiles oh, okay, i’ll look into those. thank you for the advice!
No problem!
Hey, I’m a new boa owner but would heat mats hurt or damage my snake if it’s underneath the terrarium with substrate above it on the inside?
Whats a head tremor?
i have a 103cm long boa constrictor imperator and i don't know really much about him.. i think he is like 1 or 2 years old is it okay if i feed him a medium/small rat?
@@JensensReptiles Ok thanks
Do you recommend buying them a cage they the can grow into or upgrading as you go?
(of course upgrading will be done if needed, i just mean in general haha)
It depends on how young you get them really, but as long as they enclosure is cluttered for youngsters and they can’t escape, starting with a bigger size is fine
For a rainbow boa that I’m going to put into a 4x2x2 boa cage, what is better, a habistat radiator or a deep heat projector?
I’d go with the deep heat, I don’t think the radiator would be strong enough for a 4ft. Mine only just hits temps in a 3ft
Jensen's Reptiles ok cool, how would you mount that inside the cage, I see that you have protectors on all your light bulbs/heat bulbs but is there any particular way you would set it up? Obviously on one side so you have a gradient but what kind of protector/ dome would you use?
Is the viv from pro-vivs I will order from them soon I’m asking because I don’t want bad service I just want my viv
Yes it’s from pro-Viv. Obviously do what you want, but I wouldn’t recommend them at all
Can you keep live plants with bcc?
Yup, climbing plants are best as they’re less likely to get squashed
Is it the same for BCI's but smaller?
Zeke is a BCI :) they can get very big, so always worth going for a large enclosure. For a BCC, I’d recommend going bigger
@@JensensReptiles ok, thank you!
What bulb wattage do you use
I use 2x 150w ceramics
Where dud you buy that tank
I’d rather not recommend the company. They were just terrible. I’ve recently bought custom vivs from repti-life though. They’re incredible! Great quality and amazing customer service for a good price too!

@@JensensReptiles yeah. Somepeople say heatmats are better than che for boas. Im eleven years old. I know most of the care they need(still researching) i know they are heavy bodied and have more chance to bite then bp. Do u think i can handle it. And is the UVB essential? Love ur channel btw ❤️
Heatmats shouldn’t be used with boas at all, definitely use heat from above where possible :)
They can get very big as well (Zeke is now nearly 8ft long and he’s incredibly strong) so if you do go with a boa, make sure someone is nearby when you handle them :)

Got any scientific papers to back that up, because I have plenty that show how much they benefit from it.
Boas are kept in 6ft long 2ft wide and 2ft High cages that is plenty if room a 10ft cage is way bigger then he needs ask any boa breeder
Please take your misinformation elsewhere. Zeke is almost 8ft long. And you suggest a 6ft enclosure? that’s pretty cruel in my opinion. I’d never take the advice of a money grabbing breeder over common sense. I’ll keep my animals properly thank you.

That being said, I do plan to provide him with more space as soon as I can. In the meantime, you might want to learn a little bit about how to politely communicate your opinion, because currently....that sucks.
You can actually take your snake with you to a university if you choose so..
Well that entirely depends on which university you go to and where you stay....obviously
