    I can't wait until my Rainbow Dash is as big as Bowie! She's just a wee baby now, and quite the Houdini. I found her in my bathroom last night, just sitting there staring up at me as I was sitting down on the potty lol. So adorable.

    Nice! If you are changing out the heating, I would recommend you use either a halogen light or a deep heat projector (or both if needed). Reptiles greatly benefit from infrared b and most importantly infrared a, both of which are emitted from these bulbs. Ceramic heat emitters, radiant heat panels, and heat pads only emit infrared c.

    • @user-el6zb5sr2l
      @user-el6zb5sr2l 4 роки тому

      overhead heat can suck out a lot of humidity when BRBs need super high humidity. It's honestly better off if the snake stays with UTHs or RHPs so that they get the humidity they need.

    • @waterbottle8692
      @waterbottle8692 4 роки тому

      K Ceramic heat emitters are the ones that suck out humidity. Halogens act as a normal lightbulb would act, and don’t affect humidity at all. I’m not sure about deep heat projectors though.

    • @MrJkfixe
      @MrJkfixe 4 роки тому

      @@user-el6zb5sr2l if they suck humidity, either diminuish the ventilation or increase the water spraying. UTHs and RHPs, also CHEs emit infrared C, a very low energy radiation that only heats the skin surface. That's why impaction is such a huge problem with UTHs users, because they heat nothing but the surface.

    • @user-el6zb5sr2l
      @user-el6zb5sr2l 4 роки тому

      @@waterbottle8692 I use DHPs. They do suck humidity out, just not just as much as CHEs.

    • @user-el6zb5sr2l
      @user-el6zb5sr2l 4 роки тому

      @@MrJkfixe I'm aware of the benefits of IR-A and IR-B. I use DHPs, I just don't agree they're the best choice for extremely high humidity species.

    Good video and beautiful snake. Props for the little dream catcher decorating the tank, it's a cool kinda subtle way to set some ambiance and to express your connection with animals, nature, the universe, whatever... As far as the clean-up crew, don't be afraid to boost those springtail numbers... even with your very respectable spot-cleaning and wanting a clean enclosure in mind :) Always clean out the big poop, mix the rest into the upper level of leaf litter, and let the bugs do the rest :) You really can't have too many springtails IMO though! Especially if you have any live plants in the vivarium, they just seem to help everything "jive" and establish. I am a bit OCD and don't like to leave any poop, even though my soil is SATURATED with springtails and isopods, but the enclosure smells so good from the natural "forest" smell that it makes it hard for me to find any poop haha.

    Would a paludarium setup work for a BRB? Something like a large water grotto they could bath and swim in with paths and climbs up to a terrestrial area? Maybe use a 4x2x2 pvc over a 4x2x2 tank. Just had the notion, was hoping someone might have feedback. Thanks o/

    So, how do you replace bioactive substrate or will you never need to? Like with the bugs in the substrate you cant just throw it in the garbage or outside or that introduces non native bugs?

    • @reptiliangarden
      @reptiliangarden  4 роки тому +4

      Julia Mcshits as long as you keep the substrate moist, they should flourish. I still recommend spot cleaning or adding more isopods and springtails over time. It’ll help keep the substrate fresh and healthy.

    Nice video I'm hoping to get a Brazilian rainbow boa next week. How long do you think before a baby outgrows a 3 x 1.5 ft tank? My ball python goes into the cool end if the humidity is too low, as soon as I start misting the tank he goes back into the warm end. The humidity is higher at the the cool end because as the air cools the relative humidity rises because cool air can't hold as much moisture as warm air.

    Great video Tricia, I absolutely love that enclosure! is this one another Zen habitat? sorry if you answered that already...I don't have my full eye site so I was not able to see if it was on the tank or not. Love everything you purchased!! looks fabulous:) I know this is a huge favor to ask, but is there anyway you could do a super, super in depth video about how you kept your humidity up and what you specifically did for your rainbow boa? I want one SO, SO bad but The whole humidity thing freaks me out...I am a huge perfectionist and I will stress out like crazy if I cant get the humidity just right lol. I know you have gone over what you did but is there ANY tips you could give to us who want/need to know?? Love the snake babies! I too have 2 BP, corn snake and a Mexican black king snake and still adding hahahaha!!
    Emily
    P.S I was also thinking about purchasing a mist king or a monsoon/Fogger for the enclosure if I was to go through with getting a RB:))

      ILLUM• LIFE Humidity is a really common source of anxiety for people who keep exotic animals. If and when you do get your snake, try to focus more on providing a good environment for it, rather than chasing exact humidity numbers. Humidity levels fluctuate constantly, and is related to temperature. The fluctuations cause people to panic. So it’s good to have a quality hygrometer, but don’t be surprised if your humidity numbers fluctuate a lot. It happens in nature, too. The danger to chasing humidity numbers is that people tend to restrict ventilation to achieve higher humidity, only to find their animal has come down with respiratory problems. Provide a moist environment, big water dish, and plenty of ventilation.

    • @reptiliangarden
      @reptiliangarden  4 роки тому

      Charlotte Stickland The pvc really Locks in humidity along with mistings and a large water bowl. And I don’t like Eco earth alone. I had to use it as a base to support the springtails and isopods. That’s why I added a lot of moss and cocohusk on top of it as the majority of substrate in the enclosure. 💕
