I think she thought Betty was too old! Betty-continued to win for people as the giver for years!!! I think either way this woman surely would have won. Betty was a champ about it
0:30 - yes, Betty, in two years, your next role would take place there lol. She was the Queen of Gameshows! She's with Allen and the password is......*HEAVEN*
All this time I thought the contestants has to guess the clues at the Winners Circle I never knew that the celebrities can switch seats with the contestants. Wow
It’s the contestant’s choice, but they are more likely to get flummoxed if they choose to give the clues, especially as they get father along. From watching this lady I suspect she’s had on-air experience before-she didn’t seem fazed at all
In the 1970's 10,000$ version... Dick ALWAYS asked before each winner's circle. It became more customary for the contestant to receieve in the 80's... but thye ALWAYS have the choice.
There was a disastrous winners circle from the 1980’s era where a female contestant chose to give clues to Tom Poston. Her clues were so bad, Poston was confused and they ended up with zero for the round.
@@hwyfan her clues were NOT that bad.. Tom Poston just sat there clueless while she said "The numbers, the solutions, the fractions" to "things in Math"... and he responded with "the answer". She said "Clams, oysters" to "things with a shell, and he just sat there like he was having a stroke or something.... his total blank stare unnerved her, and she kept yelling "pass" all the way up the board. However... the most bizarre thing of ALL, that same contestant won 25,000$ the day before, GIVING clues to TOM!
It just fell out of habit. From the premiere up till around 1977, Dick would ask the contestant before EVERY winner's circle, and then it became like Richard Dawson in the super match, and he quit asking. Unfortunately it got to the point that I almost wondered if some contestants were aware they had the choice, but then I was certain producers would tell them before hand, I would assume.
There's a lot more rules in giving clues than answering, especially in the final round, so it's natural that contestants would let the celebrities do it since they had more practice.
The only time a contestant was forced one way or the other was season 1 of the Osmond Pyramid when they had to receive, IIRC. It's actually an interesting dilemma: Contestants like to give because they know the answer and feel more "in control" of the situation, whereas receiving is seen to be easier because you can gain additional "clues" from voice inflections that a celebrity is usually better suited to present. Though I've only ever played mock games, I've found receiving on these games to be much easier.
Two of TV's all-time greats: Dick Clark (host) and Betty White (celebrity panelist).
R.I.P. to both of these legends.
You could also mentioned Soupy Sales too! You can say that three legends are missed as well!
At first I thought: You want Betty to RECEIVE? YOU'RE NUTS! But can't argue with the results. 👏👏
FACTS.
It's not about Betty. If the contestant is self aware enough to know she'd be better giving, then that's how it should be.
But Betty is the Queen of Game Shows! She always showed how utterly brilliant she was in giving or getting clues! :)

@@brockreynolds870Betty was always excellent at giving though. Time proved that hands down
Thank you for posting this!! I’ve been looking for it for years. I remember watching when it aired and being impressed with this one.
Two GREAT LEGENDS who are both MISSED!
Fitting that the first clue the contestant gives is Miami and a couple years later, Betty ends up on The Golden Girls…set in Miami.
Love that show! Miss Dick Clark and Bettie White. ❤
They did well, but the answers were easier than most
1:49 For-sure. Most of the Pyramids have at least one tough BLOCK. Not this one.
Totally agree. If Betty had given the clues she still would have won. Not one tough block imo
Delivered is probably the easiest top square in history
Strangely enough, ABC's version of _The $100,000 Pyramid_ does require the celebrity partner to receive instead of give as in past versions.
Actually, the contestants usually choose.

I think she thought Betty was too old. Betty proved she was always good in the opposite role as well
Those were ridiculously easy
What great clues! Jeez, even I could have won with THOSE clues!
It was an all time easy Pyramid IMHO.
@@brookehanley3659She did give great clues still though
Why tge the contestant gavd
In all honesty this was one of the easiest winners circle pyramids EVER. Let’s face it.
Betty was a Champ about this in more ways than one
On the current run of Pyramid, the contestant nearly always gives the clues in the WC.
Noticed that too. The current celebrities aren't that bright and I think the contestants know it.
@@andyk6796
I don’t know if they aren’t as bright, but they are certainly less experienced.
I think the producers push for the contestants to give the clues.
@@DBR00 Almost all the time, on the last version of Pyramid, the contestant did give in the WC

I think this was Betty’s first game on this show. Contestant knew it.
Pretty sure it was announced by Dick.

I've always wondered why more contestants didn't try giving clues in the winner's circle 🤔

If you watch at Strahans version the contestants give and the celebrities receive
Not many contestants can speak under lights like thsi
R.I.P Betty Dick and Soupy
Usually it is better for the celeb to give and civilian to receive but I suppose the keyword is USUALLY.
This was an easy Pyramid. If Betty gave she still would have won hands down. IMO even if it were difficult
Was this the only time Betty received in the Winner’s circle?
I believe so but she won giving the clues multiple times. Betty was a great Pyramid player

Todays version it’s the standard rule that the contestant gives the clues, no?
They have the choice, but seems today that most contestants would rather give.
