Dweezil can play. I’ve seen videos of him ripping on the guitar. But I’ve noticed 2 things about him. He will not rip on his dad music. He will always let the guest guitarist shine. Respect!
I saw Dwezil in Charleston,SC and I came in with an “Apostrophe “ sign. The band acknowledged the sign and played the song. They signed autographs after the show. I am so grateful for Dwezil and the band for an incredible concert and the love they showed.
Dweezil's a hell of a guitar player in his own right, and I notice he's looking more like the old man the older he gets. All he needs is the 'stash. Thanks for keeping Frank's music alive and well!
You're right, big stache, the Zappa Fly and he's Frank. I hadn't been paying that much attention, but it looks like he takes his musicianship as seriously as the old man too. Which is really saying something too.
Agree, he is like a throwback to the original guitarists of the 60's and 70's and always looks like playing guitar is the greatest pleasure known to man.
Dweezil has no ego showing but is one of the best guitarists in music along with that bass player and his band..always something to be as a standard for all to see and hear.
Agreed indeed. I caught him on a Rick Beato interview a few weeks back and I was blown away by just listening to him free jamming during the interview.
Phil X always looks like hes having the time of his life when he plays. Oozes joy and enthusiasm... plus he totally shreds 😆... of course Dweezil is also the man...
Phil X rocks! Used to go see him play on Sunday nights at his dad’s restaurant in Mississauga back in the early 90’s. He used to also jam every Wednesday night in Toronto. That was always fun to go check out. Now he’s a big superstar. Always a nice guy and incredible player.
Yeah hes playing the solo great but just way too quiet…shame…i mean with them having in ears and the sound guy how did they not fix that after the first bar?
I was there. This is a bass tune co-written by the great Jack Bruce and featured on Zappa's album of the same name. The bass was just as you hear, way too quiet until the last go around. The most disappointing part of the show, which was overall a very good way to spend three hours.
I'm just glad that Dweezil can carry on his father's music cause Mr. ZAPPA is the greatest guitar player I've ever listened to. And boy DweezIL IS incredible in his own right. I mean just absolutely shredding the baby snake SG
Great upload. Love Phil X, and of course Dweezil’s a monster guitar player learning from his dad, Vai and even Edward. Saw him back in ‘91 at The Paradise in Boston with his brother Ahmet on vocals and Mike Keneally on second guitar. Tight band, they did a medley of bits of 50 pop and rock songs in a row; all without stopping or missing a beat. Great show 🎸👌🏼🤘🏼
Phil X has gone from a youtube blogger, to an in demand musician. His work with Bon Jovi was awesome. He was the right pick when Richie decided to leave the band. Now he fills in for other top notch bands and studio work. It has been great following his career. There were no surprises.
I think I saw him in ft myers with Bob Dylan a few yrs ago ,maybe 10 ish...at small bar I just happened to walk in...Am I close to being right, I was heavily having no buisness being anywhere that interval of time
..but are we surprised? Dweezil is INCREDIBLE but he's playing covers of his dead father's music. It's an extremely niche market. Frank's music was for an extremely niche market as well for that matter. ...so how would Dweezil ever become widely known and respected? If he were the guitarist in a very popular and more mainstream band, then everyone would know who he is - but that's not the path he chose. Music isn't about getting recognition or being an "all time great" anyway. That's what sports is for. Dweezil seems really happy and content with his life. Not everyone feels the need to be famous.
Dweezil Xappa. I was there at that SLO Zappa show in the SLO Brew on Garden Street. And, I saw Frank Zappa New Years eve 1978 in the UCLA Pauley Pavilion. Steva Vai and Adrian Belew played with Frank Z that night. Terry Bozio sitting in the giant sling chair behind His massive ring around drum set. Doing drum rolls ten feet of the ground with his back to audience. Easily the most intense three way guitar Night in world history. Adrian Belew can play unbelievable Slide guitar....😊
That was Outstanding! That guy on the right was born to do guitar! And all of them...bass and tone, drummer, Dweez I saw a video way back; he has many gears! Thanks for posting this. I enjoyed it a lot!
Bravo to this bass player who did such a superb job replicating Jack Brice's original studio bass solo. It is extremely hard to play and it must've taken many, many, many hours to first master and then memorize this bass part, much less play it live! Who is this incredible bass player! He is not getting the credit while everyone posts about Dweezil and Phil X. It's the bass player, stupid. Bravo! Love it!!
Thanks, Dweezil! I loved this. I want to thank your bass player who did all the real work on this tune! Next time, have him turn off the flanges as I couldn't discern many of the great riffs he played. For those who don't know- "Apostrophe" was a Jack Bruce bass solo set to music. And this bassist did a great job replicating a very challenging and technically difficult song to play, but a very cool one! The compliments should ALL GO to the bass player! This is a hard bass song and an easy guitar song! Focus on the guy who did this!
Just saw him in Boise, ID. Blew everyone's socks off. I was one of the youngest people there, everyone else was at least in their 60s+. Absolutely great show.

The intellectually appealing intricate and complex structure of Zappa’s music layered over persistent driving primal rhythms, and punctuated with the cultural lampooning of his lyrics, create a compelling sensory library through which listeners can experience the essence of the American experiment. Frank Zappa was early to recognize the threats posed by the growing trend toward censorship and forced homogeneity that were evolving in our governmental policies and institutions. I credit him with opening my eyes early on to a healthy skepticism of presumed authority which I am thrilled to see now beginning to enlighten more and more of us.
I saw Dweezil some years back and I saw Frank way back in 1973 , I have always been a Zappa fan , both of them ! I really wish that Dweezil , Vinnie and Warren Cuccurullo would get together and do a tour and add Ruth in there for good measure .

Frank would just be shaking his head at this snoozefest. Dweezil knows better than most the fun his Dad poked at conformity in the world of music. Matching rock n roll outfits, matching licks. I sure miss Frank’s utterly unique take on all things music.
Thank you Dweezil for keeping the Zappa legacy alive, you are brilliant
Dweezil can play. I’ve seen videos of him ripping on the guitar. But I’ve noticed 2 things about him. He will not rip on his dad music. He will always let the guest guitarist shine. Respect!

he wont play his fathers music because his mom will sue him

Exactly the same posture.
Saw Frank in 1988 fresh.
Dweezil is a Monster on gutiar.
Dweezil, I'm a huge Zappa fan and I LOVE how you're keeping it ALIVE!!! Thank You
I believe Phil X is one of the greatest rock guitarists of our time.

Agreed absolutely!
Our time or possibly any other...

That Bass player is AWESOME!!! Killed it!
Right! Who is he?
I'd like a much more gnarly sound here!

Lived in Mississauga from ‘88- 2021. Man I wish I had heard of him back then (90’s). I would loved to have seen him play! Quite the guy.
Phil is a super bad ass player, and a great dude! What a cool guest spot... ZAPPA uber alles!!

What a HELL of a rhythm section. Love the drummer...such great tone!
They're having SO MUCH FUN!!!!
So cool that Dweezil is bringing Frank's actual iconic Roxy SG guitar out on the road.
The axe needs to be played. It’s like why didn’t John Mayer bring out tiger?
