Thanks so much for watching, and a special shoutout to Simon for his extraordinary contributions! What Zappa song would you like to see a video on next?
It would be a massive undertaking but I would love to see an analysis of The Adventures of Greggary Peccary, or maybe an analysis of just one or two sections from it
Someone mentioned Greggary Peccary, which would be amazing but a massive undertaking - but it is also the track that gets a whole sode on his masterpiece album (Lather) - and I think doesn't get the recognition it deserves. Similarly, the title track "Lather" or Regyptian Strut, which I think has some of the best harmonies Zappa ever wrote. I'd love to know how that piece works.
I don't know what is crazier-that someone would make a two-hour video analyzing one Zappa composition or that I would watch it in one sitting. Amazing. Thank you. Still can't believe I never picked up on the Dupree's lick after all these years.
Tyler's content is fantastic, and because he just posted this moments ago, I'm compelled to appeal to fellow subscribers and viewers to use his tip jar in the description above to show their appreciation. I don't know Tyler, but I'm sure the views and comments expressing appreciation are enough reward. Still, as a fellow video editor who understands what just THAT part of producing something like this represents in both time and effort, his work is mind-boggling. Not to mention the time spent researching, writing, interviewing, sound designing, media management and creating motion graphics. Then there's his musical talent, which enables him to parse and convey what we hear. Seriously, it's the least we can do. The capital that would be required to fund something like this is massive. The companies that make entertainment we routinely pay for without hesitation would NEVER consider creating content like this. We're fortunate one person is dedicated and talented enough to bring us his work. I hope you take my suggestion in the spirit it's intended and donate at least what you'd typically pay for two hours of quality entertainment. I'm sure Tyler finds this comment cringe-inducing, but I don't care. His work is incredible-the end.
Not cringe-inducing at all, my friend. This is incredibly meaningful to me, especially since I considered taking this channel down for good and not doing stuff like this anymore (blah blah I won't bore anyone with the details but it's all good now). It's so rewarding that people enjoy this, and I'm, of course, so happy we can come together and enjoy Zappa's music in (hopefully) a unique way. I can't thank you enough for the support - seriously!
Well, the blind wasn't drawn on this analysis. You've left no stone unturned and showed us the sheer brilliance of Zappa's mind contained in this one song... And Frank made hundreds! Thank you so much for this deeply interesting and fun exploration of Andy. I always thought the song was about some random dude that left a trail of baffled and shocked victims behind. Oh, how wrong was I...
Man, what a track. I started listening to FZ at the age of 11, 1986 and One Size Fits All was literally life changing. I recommend all musicians to learn this tune, it absolutely rips.
Awesome video man, I learned a lot! I was thinking when you referenced Approximate that one of the rhythms in there is similar to the opening percussion lick. Great stuff
Excellent work (again) Tyler. Thank you. I remember reading in Nigey Lennon's book "Being Frank" how she thought "Andy" was about the end of her relationship with FZ. After working with Nigey, (producing her CD) she seemed to vehemently believe it. Could be some truth there - who knows? In any event, it's a wonderful piece of music and it has entertained me now for over 50 years! One Size Fits All (anagram for SOFA) indeed. I think an interesting tune to analyze would be "It Just Might Be A One Shot Deal" or "Regyptian Strut". Or if you wanna go nuts "Mo and Herb's Vacation". Ha!
Hi Tyler, where that interview talking about zen came from? i wanna hear it seems interesting as zappa dont normaly comment about that so much, great video a pleasure to watch !
With out a doubt of Frank's most underrated and overlooked compositions. I never hear anyone talk about this one even when discussing One Size Fits All as a whole they just gloss over it. I never understood why, its great! Although I guess it never really stood a chance on the same disc of polyvinyl-carbonate as Inca Roads and Po-Jama People.
You missed a tour. Jan '74 in Sacramento Zappa played Andy. No Jeff at that show. Frank, NMB, Duke, Ruth, 3 Fowlers - Tom Bruce and Walt, Chester and Ralph. I still have my ticket stub. The light show was great. Blues and Yellows on the band and Green lights coming straight down over the drummers during their distinctive drumming parts. I'll never forget that show. Didn't matter what I was smoking. (Sacramento Memorial Auditorium)
@@TylerBartram Maybe I saw that a few years ago. I don't remember it being delayed only because I knew 6 weeks later Yes was performing. Saw that one too. But there wasn't any Jeff Simmons. But it was a great show. They did Echidna's and many from Roxy and One Size.
Andy is about Andy Devine. The main drag through Kingman AZ is Andy Devine Ave. which is also historic US Route 66. Anyone traveling the country back then knew Kingman as an outpost in the middle of nowhere. At the intersection of old route 66 with present day Interstate 40 is the old Lido Hotel mentioned in Willie the Pimp "Standin on the porch of the Lido Hotel, Floozies in the lobby love the way I sell.. Was the band possibly traveling Route 66 back in the day and came up with this song. I'd love to hear any corroboration.
Todd Rundgren Something/Anything. Doesn't Frank call Ike Todd during The Blue Light on Tinseltown Rebellion? For all his hippie appearance Todd is in reality a six four passive aggressive hard man. He treats people badly and women worse allegedly. Surely the song has got to be about Todd the wunderkind!
Thank You. I just don't like the lack of humanity in you and your production. I think everyone knows that the dissectors of humanity don't have any insight into it. I like what you like, but I don't like what you feed. Same as it ever was.
