There's something kind of beautiful about the way Carl just plays the melody on the guitar and is either to able to pull Brian into the trance or out of a trance. Something brotherly about it. Playing your brother's favorite song with him. It's sweet.
Carl might be my favourite out if the bunch. The way he stepped-in to become the lead during Brian's troubles, and always had Brian's back. His vocal on I Can Hear Music is ludicrously good.
Mike sneering at Brian with contempt because he knows it's Brian's favorite song. Then halfway through the song he loses his hate, because he realizes it's a beautiful moment and song. If this could only happen in the lives of us all .. the world would be a better place.
What happened was: Brian mentioned Mike had covered this song in his solo album. Mike jokingly asked: "what album?". Brian: "Looking Back with Love". Mike then again in a joking manner shushed him (first frame of this video) because the album was a complete failure and had nothing spectacular to offer.
Indeed. The way Brian generously spot-lights Mike during this bit despite their personal troubles, it's the mark of a man. Brian really is a great great guy. Hope he's coping ok with the recent loss of his wife.
If anyone wants to play along, the chords he's playing are : Verse - A, Bm7(barchord 2nd fret), E - twice Then C#7 (9th fret), F#7(2nd fret), B(7th fret), E. Chorus - A, F#m, D, E
@@marlonrando9272 agreed: I don't contest that Mike was and is the face of the Beqch Boys, he's just 'too big for his britches'. He spent a lot of effort pushing Brian and the others to the side...
Been listening to this a lot since hearing of Ronnie's passing. I love Brian's joy in hearing and singing this song, you can tell how it shaped him as a performer and songwriter. I imagine he's devastated.
How he pulled his car over. Said it was the most stunning thing he’d ever heard. This song drives on that drum track. Melody, the most captivating vocals and pure magic!
There were a couple random moments where Brian was able to do his falsetto voice. I think there's another clip from the mid 90s where he does it too and it sounded great.
This song makes me think of Anthony Perkins, just him and I on a warm summer night looking down at the city beautiful view, and were in his car kissing passionately
This is so bitter Sweet , Brian and Mike were on an all time low and was in and out of legal battles , Brian is really pissed that Mike had just released "Be my Baby" on his first solo record and there's a real feel of unnerve during the whole show with Bruce and Al keeping out the way with Brian and Mike directly facing each other over the fire...Carl is sat next to Brian to keep the piece and between songs you often see Carl whispering to Brian as Mike just doesn't wanna be there at all - I find this so interesting and entertaining to watch but with the feeling of how hard it was for them all to be in the Beach Boys..The story of the Beach Boys is just incredible..Amazing Band

First comment here! Best producer arranger and song writer and most prolific in Rock History. And a very genuine sweet guy-- Brian Wilson I love covers if this song--- This is Brian's inspiration to use The Wall of Sound technique for his other hits like Salt Lake City
Does anyone know if there is a copy of the whole Endless Special available anywhere. I would love to have the whole camp fire segment in one piece. It is awesome!
it was on youtube untii maybe 10 months ago or something. and i am still angry at myself that i didnt download it. its nowhere to be found on the internet and not on dvd or something either.
Look at Mike Love subtly seething with anger that Brian Wilson is back to the land of non-drug sanity and rightfully at the helm of the Beach Boys. Love always wanted to dominate the band and capitalize on Brian Wilson's genius while trying to present that musical gift as his own. Mike Love's presence in the band was nothing more than a gift -- his vocals were and always will be mediocre at best. His musical competency is not even close to Brian Wilson. Brian Wilson made Love's career and the latter always resented that. Mike Love would have been a nobody without Brian Wilson. But, Brian Wilson is a class act and never would say anything to that effect in public -- even though he probably knows it to be true deep down.
I always enjoy, such as in this video, the Wilson's will include everyone in the good times, but really if no one were there but Brian and Carl, they'd have enjoyed it just as much. All three brothers truly loved each other
+Peter Richardson I agree what you say about Mike Love's personality but his vocals are really superb, especially on Pet Sounds (although that this is likely due to Brian insisting on countless vocal takes until the band got it right.) Mike Love always did have a good down to earth belting voice that served as a nice counterpoint to Brian Wilson's light, sweet higher singing.
Peter Richardson every right to believe this... but as I watched the video I saw the face of a cousin who was enjoying singing this song with his cousin! Especially since the song is such a classic!
Peter Richardson bullshit, he looks like he's enjoying himself with his cousins.. his Voice is on point here, Mike Love's not nearly as bad as people make him out to be and he was a Key member during the prime of the Band, whether you like it or not
Phil of course was a genius when he was younger...but obviously went completely off the rails later on...I never knew the Boys ever made any attempt to try Phil's Wall of Sound masterpiece hit...Legend has it (and I believe it to be true) that this song drove Brian nuts trying to figure out Phil created the amazing sound..(in 1962 I believe)
I love the Beach Boys but no one has ever sang this song better than the Ronettes. That's why it's Brian's favorite. Ronnie Spector's voice and performance gives this song the loving, sexy life it was meant to have.

I found the full version of this summer special
Excellent, thanks for the link!
I love this. You can see on Brian's face how much he loves this song.
I was thinking the same thing! Its his favorite
You can see it when he talks about the song. He always gets so animated
omg he was obsessed about that song
He says in the key of A, in the key of A and nails the first note . Brian is a fucking mastermind
Having absolute pitch doesn't hurt. Yes, he has a lot of musical talent. Not bad for a guy with a profound hearing loss in one ear.
@@johne6081 also his voice just didnt do what he wanted after the 60s. he was able to harmonise and all but his voice was never really good again.
Carl did start playing it, but as someone with absolute pitch like Brian you can transpose melodies pretty easily
I love you fellas. Wishing for times like these these again. God bless.
Brian has a beautiful, egoless soul.
He is Taurus rising.
As opposed to his cousin… the Anti-Brian.
He sure does
There's something kind of beautiful about the way Carl just plays the melody on the guitar and is either to able to pull Brian into the trance or out of a trance. Something brotherly about it. Playing your brother's favorite song with him. It's sweet.
Verdade
He’s not playing the melody on the guitar… he’s just playing the harmony of the song. Brian and the rest of the group are singing the melody.
Carl might be my favourite out if the bunch. The way he stepped-in to become the lead during Brian's troubles, and always had Brian's back. His vocal on I Can Hear Music is ludicrously good.
And Carl, as always, making it magical, for Brian.
Imagine if he played Shortnin Bread. This video would be 4 hours longer.
it's all in the cutting room floor i'm certain
Mike sneering at Brian with contempt because he knows it's Brian's favorite song. Then halfway through the song he loses his hate, because he realizes it's a beautiful moment and song. If this could only happen in the lives of us all .. the world would be a better place.
and Mike wasn’t bad at all here! I’m sure Brian taught the guys the song for fun a long time ago and you can slowly see it coming back to Mike

You’re so full of shit, Mike recorded this song for his solo album
This song has such rich history, you can see it on Mike's face as he watches Brian sing. Love

Verse - A, Bm7(barchord 2nd fret), E - twice
