CAT Not ready? EGR Not ready?
Driving over 200 miles did NOT work! Here is what worked: in morning warm up car for ten minutes. Rev car to 2000 for two minutes. Drive at 50 MPH for ten minutes. No cruise control no AC. Then let go of accelerator. Don’t step on the break. Let car slow down as much as possible on its own. To check if car is ready for smog use code reader or turn car on (two clicks) not engine and look at Ck engine icon: if it stays on then go away you are good. If it blinks then your car is not ready for smog Ck. Hope this helps. I have been killing myself to solve the issue.

Spent the last three days trying this process and finally passed the the smog inspection today after 3 total stops to the smog shop and 100+ miles driven. Make sure to do every step correctly. I didn't put the AC/Defroster at max and I think that was holding me back from getting the Malfunction Indicator Lamp to disappear instead of flash 5 times. If you live in a heavy traffic area, do this in the early morning (2-3 am) on the freeway and coast down on a long exit since they're more isolated. I really wish smog shops would just advise doing the drive cycle instead of driving x amount of miles. Certain events won't happen even after 1000 miles driven.

Definitely worked for me, first try. I own a 2011 Acura MDX Been trying to clear the EVAP and CAT for days, had to get the 10 day extension after I failed my NYS Inspection. Found this vid, woke up @ 4am, got on I-87, followed the instructions to almost to the tee (let the A/C and Defrost work a little longer and held @ 3/4 throttle a little longer). There was a perfect spot to let the 2nd coast just coast (down slope stretched about a half mile, an eternity when you're coasting below 20MPH), drove back home, sat at a stop light, plugged my OBDII in and BOOM! #greenlightgang.
On everything, THANK YOU for sharing this information. I wished more people shared their knowledge, because I was about to park the car and buy a new one. Going for my Inspection as soon as my mechanic opens up. Definite life saver.

Coming on here to confirm it works for my 2006 Acura RSX Type S! I tried many other methods found on Google but it never worked. I held a steady 55mph in 5th gear for the minutes shown, then I let off the gas and let the speed drop down to 20mph and I repeated this a few times just to be 100% sure. I later stopped to check and it FINALLY completed my CAT readiness sensor. Thank you so much for this video! (Use emergency signals if needed, cars will go around you or pull off into emergency lane if busy)

YOOO!! So glad I found this clip! It worked for me for a 2012 Honda Civic si. (69k miles, but shouldn’t matter). Watched other videos but this was the main one I thought might work and tried the next day and it worked. It was kind of difficult to stay on 55mph perfectly. Went 54 53 52 mph and 56 57 mph and it still worked for me. The day prior trying this method I drove it 100 miles listening to the guy at the smog shop, should’ve tried this first. Helpful tips. Pick a time when it’s not traffic on the freeway; do it slow lane and use hazards to be safe especially when letting the speed drop. I used the timer on iPhone. Thanks for the viddeeeooo!!!!🙌🏽

My RSX-s had reset, and I passed by driving 50-60 mph on freeway. I maintained speed in that range for about 5min. I did that 3 times and it passed. The most common smog failure is not replacing the air filter. Drive around for a few days after replacing the air filter. You will pass. I also change oil because it can get into your emission system also. Do not worry about the check engine light, as long as you have no codes related to your smog, you are OK. The check engine like may remain on if yo have SRS airbag issues, but this will not affect smog test.

I live in Los Angeles. The only time this is feasible for me to do this is either really late at night (not safe at all), or Sunday morning. It seems like an incredible pain in the ass, and also not very safe to have to coast down to 20 mph on a freeway. It also seems like way too many exactly timed steps for most morons to follow through with. I hope I can get this done if I don't do it exactly perfect, because LA freeways are really dangerous.

i do not unfortunately, i would wager stricter emissions tests, maybe.... as far as even placing probes in your exhaust pipe to read emissions,,, if the dashboard light is not on , and still fails , with a battery that has not accidentally gone dead, near dead from leaving something on / plugged in . with more and more chargers , Amazon plug in phone holders , large dashboard displays hand held gps, , if your battery is older than 3 years , it could be suspect.. stricter emissions im guessing

If you want to know if your Honda is ready for emissions testing: Turn the key to second position. The Check Engine light should stay on for 20 seconds, then shut off. If after 20 seconds, the Check Engine Light blinks Five times before going out, you need to do the drive cycle thing again. What a pain in the ass.

@@skullchains3696 If the engine light stays on after the car is started, then there is some issue that will have to be checked before you can pass emissions. My comment was describing what happens before the car is even started, and with the key in the second position with indicator lights showing. The Engine light will be lit for 20 seconds, and then if it goes out after that, then it's ready for emissions test. If after 20 seconds the engine light blinks five times, then goes out, that means you need to do a drive cycle on the car before the car can be tested.

Normal driving will never complete a drive cycle on some vehicles. My F-250 was "Not Ready" after clearing codes and driving more than a year including heavy trailer towing.

I called the emissions test site and asked if AZ had a 1 monitor exemption and they said yes. So I got my emissions done without all the monitors being complete.

It's not possible to go 3/4 throttle for 3 minutes and stay at 55mph. Are you driving the freeway on 2nd gear or something. ?

I'm not really sure really.. about the dealer
..it should be the same exact sequence as honda.. inquire in person at the dealer and turn on the charm.. be ultra friendly and pleasant and try and discuss any other topic for a few minutes at the counter before springing the big question. If your really desperate bring a dozen donuts lol

Possibly an issue with that of sorts.. try and pull codes and dive on, troubleshoot the evap.. check for engine codes first

@@dougdays8095 I did have a p0420 code, that I fixed. The check engine light went off on its own so I thought I was fine, But the smog guy told me that the code was still there but the light turned off, he told me that he cleared the codes and that I had to drive 200miles so it can relearn everything, so 150miles later only EVAP is left.

@@altri5842 A lot of states allow one not ready test. He mentions this in the video. Check and see if you can find out what the requirements are in your state. The smog guys always say this without mentioning the drive cycle. If Doug days cycle didn't work for you pull out your owner's manual or look it up online. The evap test is always the most trouble. For me I just find a steep hill with no stop, get it to 50 and let it coast as long as possible. You can tell the car is ready when you turn the car key, and the check engine light doesn't flash. This is how you check if it's ready without an OBD scanner. Go to a no pass no pay station if you know of one.

Easiest way to do this BS is to drive it at least 200 miles within 2 or 3 days. All you have to do is the cold start and AC/ defroster thing after that just go on the high way and drive anything between 60 and 70 mph will be perfect drive it and just connect a obd2 scanner to it once the monitors are ready you’ll be good. I tried this and many more methods multiple times none did anything.
