    This procedure is better than the Honda service manual.

    Got my answer. The proper tube we want to use is 3/8 inch inner diameter which can be used to plug the reservoir AND for the return line. You also want to get 3/8-in x 3/8-in barb fitting to connect the clear tube and return line.

    • @AlexTechie
      @AlexTechie 5 місяців тому

      >You also want to get 3/8-in x 3/8-in barb fitting to connect the clear tube and return line.
      Yeah, it might be cheaper than to buy two different sized tubes. But if not, the different sized tube might have more utility.

    That was the perfect way to describe how to do it. Some people aren't all the way clear about everything by leaving some little details out & sometimes those little details make a huge difference in efficiency and time management

    Great video! Nice, clear and straight to the point. I prefer 10000x more to "lose" some minutes doing that flush with the car off than running the pump dry. People really underestimate how fast the fluid flows when the engine is running and how much wear you can make in the pump for a few seconds dry.

    The proper way to clear the air is to actually leave the top off the reservoir and turn the wheel to full lock each side a few times

      The front end of the car needs to be raised on jack stands. If on the ground, the friction of the wheels turning will interrupt the bubbles coming up

      With the car off or on?

    • @lernmor2137
      @lernmor2137 4 місяці тому +7

      @@teddiazjr.6223 Car is off, front side on jacks. Specifically turn the key into the on position, but do but start it; this allows the steering wheel yo be turned. Remove the PSF reservoir cap and begin to turn the wheel side to side. Start the car and see if the fluid falls. If it falls, turn off and repeat lock to lock. Never keep in lock for more than a split second. Start again and fluid should remain stable. Do not overfill the reservoir as the PS-fluid's weight can prevent proper pumping back in. Only raise the front tires marginally (1 inch off the ground) so it mimics a level ground surface.

    This worked great for me on my 3rd generation Odyssey. I tried it on an older Ford and it didn't pump out by turning the wheels. So I used the "flood clear" feature, pushing accelerator to the floor while cranking the engine (turns of injectors preveniting engine start). Let it pump for about 3 seconds, go re-top-off reservoir and repeat until the fluid runs clean into the pan under the car.

    Thank you for such a detailed video. I had never done this before but with your instructions it was easy to do.
    I ended up just turning the wheels from the steering wheel as that was easier to do.
    I went thru 5 bottles of the power steering fluid as the stuff that came out was brown!
    Right before the last bottle i ended up replacing the storage tank as well. The old one had a small crack and the clips to hold it in place were broken.
    Got the van used and have been fixing it little by little with the linited skills i have.
    Once again THANK YOU this saved me money.

    This is the best video I've seen so far on how to change power steering fluid. Specifically, other videos have you disconnecting the return line at the other (i.e., non-reservoir) end, which is harder to access and messier. Also, they turn the steering wheel instead of turning the wheel itself; I like your method better since you can monitor the fluid coming out more closely. The turkey baster method seems a bit messy, though; I think I'd want to use a syringe or hand pump instead to minimize leakage. Thanks for the great video!

    I rebuilt a power steering pump on a 2003 Accord and noticing how finely machined it was, I realized just how important it is to keep this fluid fresh. I'm a little paranoid about using non-Honda fluids though so I buy from the dealer.

    if you put jack stands under the car, you should lower the car onto them, but leave a some pressure on the jack as well. they aren't gonna help if that car slides off the jack to one side-- might even punch a hole in the bottom of the car. you'd be better off not even using the jacks if youre going to do it that way ((wheels on, and stands w the gap))

    Not sure the jack up is necessary, but couldnt hurt. And OEM service manual (8th gen Accord) doesn't even cover "flush" per se, just replace nor the need to jack vehincle. OEM manual steps:
    Connect drain tube to PS line, states to start the engine, turn wheel lock to lock several times until no more fluid, stop engine. Notes to run engine and keep turning wheel until no more fluid coming out, then immediately stop engine to avoid damage (insinuating bad to run engine long time, but needed short term to successfully purge). Fill fluid to upper level. Start engine, let it idle, turn wheel stop to stop to purge air from system. Add ore if necessary. If still dark or not totally clear repeat process.
