Brothers in Arms is literally one of the greatest compositions ever made in history.

6:52 therein lies the genius, when the left hand isn't even linked to the mastery of the behind the scenes right hand, just ticking away underneath. And yet they are absolutely linked. It's just that one is mastered so well it can operate separately or so differently from the other. Often imitated, never mastered like this...Knopfler just doing his thing so naturally. PURE MAGIC!!!

Mark Knopfler has said that he is very aware that his music has been an overture for the lives of a lot of people. He's certainly correct in my case.
I will never forget the day I walked out of Addenbrooks hospital in Cambridge (1986) having just been told that my mum was going to die and nothing could be done to save her. She was 59.
I was an emotional mess but I had to go to work, I had a night shift as a London fireman to do and I couldn't let my mates down.
I got into my car, switched on my "stereo" (remember them?) and the first thing I heard was "Brothers In Arms".
It broke me and fixed me all at once.
I than God for people like Mark Knopfler because for sure they are his gift to us.

There may be an artist more generous and humble about his work than Mark but I've not run into him or her.

I can perfectly understand what you have said about all the globe trotting gigs sapping you out. But there is something about Dire Straits that is flabbergasting. The first Dire Straits album came out in 1978 and Brothers in Arms happened in 1985. That's just 7 years which is like switching from a car to a rocket. It is as good as impossible to touch that pinnacle of success in such a short time. The reunion of Dire Straits which fans (including myself) are clamoring about is not just about listening to the erstwhile Dire Straits tracks. I was just a year and a half old when the first Dire Straits album came out and I grew up in a sleepy little place with no exposure to English songs. I heard Dire Straits songs for the first time in 1992 and since then I have been stuck in a sort of time loop. Dire Straits has a distinct sound and us fans want to hear more of that sound in the form of new songs. It is that sound we are yearning for. There is almost a Dire Straits song for every mood swing I have been through in my growing up years. Only you and the Almighty knows about all the crazy things you do with the guitars but it feels like every chord is speaking to me.

Can we just take a moment to apreciate the wondrous ways in which great artists like these forever link us with their music. I always loved Dire Straits, but it seems like when you get older and the pace or stlye of music gets too fast or even foreign/fake you go back to your roots so to speak. I have been known to cry at Dire Straits songs, actually far less so at Brothers in Arms, actually. The songs of the Alchemy Tour in particular blow me away every single time. I know there was Queen and others, but these guys were something so rare and special an unbeknownst to them gave me (us) something unforgettable.

Back in June 1978,I had just graduated from high school, had my own apt. ,and after I hooked up my stereo, the 1st song I heard was Sultans of Swing, and that was that.♥️

Amo Mark knopfler 💖🇧🇷
