    Bill, you should write a book about the 6.0. I'd be curious to know how these trucks are holding up under extreme towing all these years later.

    I love my 6.0. It gets 19-21mpg on the highway. I even get 15-16 towing my gooseneck trailer. More power than my 7.3 and 50% better fuel economy with the same load

    The first time i came across diesel emissions is when I traded my 2010 ProStar W/ 400 Cummins 13 speed for a 2012 Peterbuilt with the same engine 13 speed and a DEF tank... I was getting tween 8.4 to 10.2 mpg in the ProStar and that dropped 6.8 mpg in the Pete just so those tree huggers don't have to see smoke out my stacks! My 7.3 Power Stroke makes up for that :)

    • @jojomorgan8556

      Yeah and that fuel cost savings can be increased by using off-road "red" diesel it's about $0.20 a gallon cheaper at the moment (don't get caught though it's a big fine) < I use a 100 gallon tank in the bed full of red diesel with an inside-the-framerail hidden line and leave my oem tanks full of the street-legal stuff with an "OMG STATE TROOPER IS STOPPING ME!" secret tank switch *using a ford factory fog light switch (mine never had fog lights)* so they don't catch it with their carry around emission "sniffer" and my high pressure fuel system will last longer because red diesel has the amount of lubricating sulfur the truck was designed for .......

    the 6.0 can run on waste oil as well. it doesnt have any crazy sensors that will shut it down because the fuel is too dark. i mix waste oil with some ETHANOL FREE gas (learned that lesson the hard way. the ethanol melts the poly fuel filter) to get the right viscosity, filter the batch down to 5micron twice, and pump it in the tank. i go 50/50 with some diesel just to be safe but i have used up to 75% waste oil without issues.
    been doing it for a while now. still runs good. sounds good and smells good too. it saves me about $40 everytime i make a batch.

For Gas vehicles its 1975 and earlier.Just got a 1970 El Camino SS (396Cid), straight and rust free running for $2500. California must be where cars go to try and stay younger looking, and age still has its privileges (smog exemption).

    California trucks also have VERY clean fuel systems. At 140k miles I pulled my 2001 fuel tank & the screens were like new! The UV / sun in Cali can be harsh on paint & interior, but that stuff is peanuts and won't leave you stranded. It sounds like CATERPILLAR needs to create a bullet proof, no fancy BS seat warmer , extend your mirrors , adjust seats, shift to 4x4, MANUALLY. If you cant pull your mirrors out for towing, then your to lazy to insure your LOAD/ trailer / tires / are safe .
    Less plastic, less snaps and cheezy clips & more aluminum & real fasteners. Less to break, less cost to build , less like your living room, but a heater & AC & cup holders is all you need for WORK!

    When I was in the market for a new truck I was considering the 04.5-07 ford and the 03-06 dodge. While the ford's sound more reliable, it costs upwards of $10,000 to bulletproof the engine and maybe $5000 to bulletproof the transmission in the Dodge (this is balls-to-the-wall bulletproofing too, handling 1500 ft/lbs torque) addressing both their shortcomings. The spreadsheet in question addressed non bulletproofed new trucks of the pre DPF SCR era. Perhaps the engines in the Ford last longer than the Dodge transmissions but cost more once they need fixing? Regardless it seemed like the Dodge was the better choice for me.

      Erik Kovacs the inline Cummins will last longer, that's why the Semi trucks you see every day with MILLIONS of miles on them all have big inline 6cyl's. Less moving parts makes for less wear and longer service life. Although I'm a big GM guy I've been extremely happy with our Dodge and Ram trucks on the farm

      @brandonhebert5485 7 років тому

      If you don't mind risking losing the truck if something happens. You don't have to be caught by an emissions test, you can get pulled over for anything and if the cop thinks you're running EGR delete, he can take a look. If he finds it, your truck will be parting your possession on a flatbed and the fines you'll pay will be more than the truck is worth. Wanna risk it? Let us know how it turns out!

You mentioned problems with ambulances on this video. I know you are very busy so I don't need details just your expert opinion. What year and what motor should I be looking for when I purchase my ambulance? Should I go for the older 7.3 or should I look for a 6.0 in the 05 to 07 year range? I am a huge fan. Even subscribed and paid for his Powerstrokehelp website. I even spoke to the man himself on more than one occasion several years ago. I saved the money and called the same number that I had called in the past (4070). Always someone picked up and answered, Now its automated. I left several messages and e mailed to have my 6.0 get the dealer proof update. its been months and I still have not received a return phone call. I see this video and can only assume that he does not deal with the little guys. I only live 1 1/2 hours away. Still a fan but extremely dissapointed. I guess "its all about the money."

    In California our cars and trucks go till the drivetrain quits. Body and frame lasts forever. Only in place like San Francisco do cars rust, being on the coast. Salvage yards are full and open all year. You can buy a new car and run it for 20-30 years if done right. Cars with 1/4 million miles look less than 100k. Even with the emissions regulations, we’re spoiled.

    I do like Powerstrokes, but you can just buy any pre-emission cummins truck with a manual transmission and have more power and not worry about head gaskets.

    • @PatrickBaptist
      @PatrickBaptist 7 років тому +4

      7.3s don't have head gasket issues.
      12v is rated less than a 7.3 PSD is.
      Cummins is a good engine, I'm going to drop a 12v into my RV, it being smaller and lighter than a PSD without the computer was a no brainer, but manual isn't a option sadly, I'll have to go with a Allison Auto.
      Only thing I would ever have to say bad about a Cummins would be the KDP, that was something I would think Cummins would have been a bit smarter on, but hey the fix isn't a big deal if you are going to already be doing some work in that area anyways....
      7.3s biggest problem, air filter housing, they love to crack and suck in dust, I've seen several with their lives cut short of the stupid air filter housing, just bought a 2000 with a air filter box with a small crack but it wouldn't seal around the filter well at all, 447k on the engine, still running good but it does have some blow by, I've seen worse on another 97 I had that had been fed ether and busted the air box, damaged piston rings but it was still pulling 15k+ (10k forklift + 5-6k trailer) and my 30ft camper (not at the same time obviously LOL), and no e trailer brakes either BTW..
      Either of those 2 engines are great long runners, newer engines aren't worth the cost of keeping them running when you do the math on how much you spend on the truck + repair and upkeep and how much per mile that cost you omitting the fuel. Trucks like the 5.9 and 7.3 will always be on the top for the lowest dollar per mile, you can rebuild 2 or 3 of them for the cost of one new engine rebuild. People just want that new or newer car shine, screw that I'm a family man I want reliability at a price I can afford without debt, so that way when work dries up, I don't loose my tools like others.

      DANA CALLS BACK EVERY MESSAGE. Most times the folks making the biggest fuss don't have a voicemail setup when we call back. HELLO SET UP YOUR VOICEMAIL. Please do not call this line for tech help. Only call 770-931-4070 if you are bringing your truck for repair. State that up front 9in your message. Any 7.3 work at this point has to go into a fit in as we can basis. Most 7.3s at this point are a real mess and I cannot take time from production work to waste a day on a truck that needs $8000 worth of work and the customer is not prepared for the bill. AND I APOLOGIZE FOR NOTHING. I am a very busy person with a 18 man crew and if you dont respect that then please take your truck somewhere else to be repaired.

      powerstrokehelp As I first stated, no disrespect and that's all I have for you. All I was saying is that I've yet to get a call back and assumed you were busy which I understand. My family owns a landscape business and I work for the DOD as an aircraft mechanic. we took both our trucks to the dealership. At the time I was I wrote my message I was upset cause your work is top notch and wanted the experience of what you do so there are no concerns in the future. Thank you for all you do Bill I appreciate it.

    The California truck especially is not a pre emissions they have a cat and egr, and in California they both have to be present and they both have to work,how long will the 6.0 last towing 18k in the heat of California with a functioning egr valve and restrictive cat converter causing high egts? Something tells me they won't last 700-800k unless you,gut the cat and block the egr, I own a pre emissions truck it's a 2004 LB7 Duramax federal emissions,no egr,no cat converter.Thats pre emissions, I agree the 05-07 are the best trucks to get if you find a clean one,around here they are all whipped, and rusted out, people neglect these trucks for some reason, seems almost all 6.0'owners like to stretch oil change intervals way to far.We rarely see one with over 250k,they just don't last that long with the road salt here,and lack of maintenance.

    Any Ford with the 6.0 sells for dirt cheap prices.My dad sees this at a dealer only auto auction in Mischawauka,Indiana.This includes with the 6.4,dealer run at this auction when a Ford with the 6.0 and 6.4 come in on the auction shoot.My dad even has watched a 2008 with 180,000 miles on it get zero bids.He has a 2015 Chevy 3500 HD with the duramax and it gets 21 to 22 for fuel mileage,this is no lie.Dodges don't have transmission problems,that 5 and 6 speed automatic junkyards don't get calls for.Most towing yards are not using the Ford tow trucks with the diesel,they are gas powered.Includes the ambulances as well.

    Since I have been watching your videos I have learned a great deal about the 6.0. You have confirmed all my suspisions about the 08 and up diesels, ford, dodge, and chevy. I have Cummins 5.9 motors in my boat and they are excellent, especially power to weight ratio. They move 16,000 lbs at 19 to 20 mph and sip a total of 8 gal an hour at 2000 rpm. My F350 is a 2004 with some upgrades; head studs, egr delete, water pump, coolant filter, 4" exhaust ( no cat ). This truck delivers avg 20 mpg at 75 to 80 mph. I wish it were an 05 to 07, but only for the better ride. I use Arch Oil every oil change. All the 6.0 work was done at 202,000 miles. Now has 220,000. I wish I had found you 3 yrs ago but, oh well. I'm doing the same upgrades to my 04 dually [ different truck ]. Now after watching you I'm rethinking because the motor is out on the floor. It is an 04 Ford factory replacement motor with only 60,000+ miles. My motor ate a lifter from previous owners poor maintance. You're doing a great job with your videos, An awsome service for the Powersroke owners. Next time I head south I'll swing by and check out your operation. Thanks for all you do for us Ford diesel people.
