@@shiralleehaggart72who is the other UA-camr you are referring to please? I'm just curious because if he or she is only half as good as pat then they're worth checking out. thankyou
I got my RAF marksman certification at that firing range in 1979. I was with the Air training corps, 1082 squadron from Brimington , Chesterfield. I can still remember sitting on those benches in the target bay. We had to take turns in the target bay and paste over the holes with white squares of paper after each one was used. Then we hauled them back up above our heads again on a pulley so they could be shot at again. It was a real thrill listening and watching the bullets fly over our heads and into the target. I remember the sand enbankment clearly behind the targets. I live in Canada now but I remember it very well. We had an all day map and compass excercise on top of the moor above the range. I can still remember walking by the Totley tunnel vents on top of the Moor. It was pouring down rain up there and glad I had my rain gear. Thankyou so much for doing this video. It has brought back many memories.
This is really great to hear, that you where actually there and how you operated the targets, to hear the bullet zipping just feet over your head and thudding into the embankment, just amazing. Alot of the barriers are still there but all the target mechanism has gone, and the whole site is slowly returning to nature, thank you for sharing your experiences........Pat
Brilliant to read this. It keeps the the place alive hearing off someone that actually operated there. Both yours and Pats accounts are really fascinating. Thank you.
I had the exact same experience only in the mid 90’s as an Army Cadet from Sheffield. The sound of those ricochet’s of the bullets passing over your head. In fact I must have been one of the last people to use the range. I remember when it closed in 1997. We still continued to camp up there after they closed the range for other exercises.

Good to see you back Patrick. I really enjoyed your little informative video on Totley firing range. My uncle considered himself to be a bit of a crack shot. He tells a story that in the early 1950's when he was home on leave from his army national service he took his standard issue army rifle up to the shooting club at the firing ranged & surprised a few of the members at what he could do. Hope to see you in the Itchy pig again one day 🍻
Patrick so good to see you doing what i think you do best Brilliantly captured as ever You inspire so many All the best and looking forward to more 👍👍👍😊
Thanks Rich, I do go off on a tangent occasionally but always return to wild camping, looking forward to some exciting camps in these coming months..... thanks Pat
Good evening Pat, we have been subscribed to your channel for a few months now and thought it was about time we left you a comment. The first vid we watched of yours was your Old age pensioner wild camping on the edge of Kinder Scout, we are not wild campers or even campers, but have been inspired to maybe give it a go. We love the Peak District and have visited many times over the years we watched your videos to help our knowledge of the area and the lay of the land to help us with our own adventures when we visit. Your videos are just great and we often laugh out loud, you are the wild camping king 🤴 of You Tube! Our last trip to the area was in early April, we managed to find your famous spot and add an entry, after watching your videos and a few others I thought I had located it using an OS map and google maps and was thrilled when we found it. What an amazing spot! Thank you so much for all your videos we have thoroughly enjoyed them. It was also through you that we found Solo Sarah B she's great, and has the same enthusiasm for that place as I do. Look forward to watching your future wild camps 🏕 Sadie and Paul.
Hello to both of you and so nice to hear from you, remember my OAP video, I think part of that was to prove I could still climb up Kinder Scout and wild camping, must admit doesn't bear thinking about the day I cannot get up there. I think Sarah will do great with her channel she has a lovely of the great outdoors which shows on her videos...... all the best Pat
Hi Pat, like all your followers I too am glad to see you well and back on with your great videos. Just in time too as only yesterday I was getting my gear packed ready for another cycle/ wild camp up to Scotland next week. Will look into the quilt thang for the future as any weight saving is always welcome. Don't think I could put that much curry away so close to bed time 😂. Take care always, Michael
Hi Michael, sounds a great trip you have planned in Scotland, hope the weather and midge's are kind to you, will be taking a closer look at my quilt on next video...... thanks Pat
I had a bit of an explore of this shooting range during lockdown. I actually came across randomly whilst I was working nearby. I could tell it was a shooting range but no Idea it dated back pre ww1! I imagined more of a hobbyist/shooting club facility. Thanks for the vid Pat really interesting to me.
Hi pat another brilliant video I used the Lee Enfield in my time in the army cadets it was a heavy rifle but very accurate see you in June for your next video take pat....
Very interesting video thanks Pat. I've lived in Sheffield 45 years now and never even knew that place existed! I shall have to go and explore! Also went up to the place at Ringinglow a few weeks back and popped a note in the book 😁👍
Hello to both of you,yes definitely worth a stroll round, slowly nature is taking over, so watch the brambles, they are lethal, and I’m have to check the entries in the book, so interesting to see who has visited……thanks Pat
No Patrick, the reason you pay out money for lightweight gear is so you can bring along a few beers! 😁😁 But seriously, great to see you out and about camping again, always a joy to come along with you. And very interesting info about the firing ranges, wow, they go back a long time!
Hi Pat! A bit late in watching your vid, but was lovely to finally sit down and watch it. Very interesting. And delicious looking food as always (I fancy some popadoms now!!). Looking forward to your next video, all the best 👍🏻 ~ Alistair.

Great as always, Pat!
Thank you so much.....Pat
Good to see you back Patrick. I really enjoyed your little informative video on Totley firing range. My uncle considered himself to be a bit of a crack shot. He tells a story that in the early 1950's when he was home on leave from his army national service he took his standard issue army rifle up to the shooting club at the firing ranged & surprised a few of the members at what he could do. Hope to see you in the Itchy pig again one day 🍻
Great true life story there of someone who actually shot on the range, and a great shot it sounds like as well..... thanks Pat
and yes may see you in the Itchy Pig...... thanks Pat
So glad you are back buddy.
It's so good to be back out wild camping, looking forward to sharing future adventures..... thanks Pat
Patrick so good to see you doing what i think you do best

Another top video from a top bloke.

Lovely to see the vids coming back Pat, thank you 👍
Yes had a few trips abroad, now it's time to get back to the real thing, wild camping........ thanks Pat
Hi Michael, sounds a great trip you have planned in Scotland, hope the weather and midge's are kind to you, will be taking a closer look at my quilt on next video...... thanks Pat
Pat, respect you are a legend ........
Thanks Rob very nice of you to say...... thanks Pat
Hi Sean yes a very interesting site with 100 years of history, wandering around you wonder how many young men passed through the range .......Pat
Inspirational stuff Pat. Makes me want to get out there and live! Cheers!
Hi Kevin, and thanks for commenting, and yes it is so good out there, and you really feel alive, just wonderful…….thanks Pat

Hi pat another brilliant video I used the Lee Enfield in my time in the army cadets it was a heavy rifle but very accurate see you in June for your next video take pat....
Hi there I used to have a .410 bored out Lee Enfield, went and sold it, wish I hadn't, like you say a heavy rifle.... thanks Pat
Cracking video as always, love the old firing range and the history behind it. Man after my own heart. Really enjoyed this.
Yes surprising what you can find when you venture back in our history, and a great spot to camp as well...... thanks Pat
Thanks for that video, some interesting history there.
Glad you enjoyed it a pleasure to share this with everyone……thanks Pat
I'll remember that Steve, and yes so much local history when you search a bit deeper..... thanks Pat
