- In this video we look at some of my summer wildcamping gear, a old Golight Jam Rucksack, at 840 grams pretty lightweight.
A Terra Nova Laser Competition 1 tent which I have modified and now makes a great three season shelter.
Moving with the times a Enlightened Eqipment Revelation Quilt, very warm and comfortable.
Ahhh perfect . After 4 days away in the dales for the missus birthday I can put my feet up, crack a beer and watch Pat . Nice one chap.
Hope you both had a great time......thanks Pat
@@patrickdickinson6492 thanks Pat yes we did. Good food, good beer and great walking. Doubly special occasion. 60th birthday and 10 years clear of cancer
you wont know it...but......im right there with ya pal ;-)
Patrick ploughs a lonely furrow with his camping exploits, that’s what makes him so entertaining, long may it last. He’s a real trooper.
Just love it up there Jim with just nature and the wild moor for company.......thanks Pat
I find you so very calming and comforting when I'm going through difficult times
That is always good to hear, if my videos can help anyone then its a very nice feeling........thankyou......Pat
Sunday night with Pat. A treat indeed.
See you there, thanks James
I should imagine Paul Messner was just as in awe to see you. You are still the purest and best m8. I do still need to see some Henderson’s on one of your camps though 😊
Maybe one day, I think a nice stew with hendersons would be great, might wait until winter......thanks Pat
Nothing like sitting back with a cup of coffee and watching a Pat Dickinson camping adventure! Really enjoyed it, your gear modifications never cease to impress. Cheers! 🍻
That is so nice to hear, love to share these adventures……..thank you Pat
A night watching and listening to Pat is a good night. Brilliant informative and entertaining video.
Really nice of you to say, and so pleased it’s entertaining…..thanks Pat
Thank you for treating us to steak and chips! You inspire me to bring more real food out on my backcountry trips. The tent modifications look brilliant and seem to be working well. Many of us forget we can make a few changes to gear, even it if was a bit costly, there's always room for personal innovation. You are talented when it comes to sewing. As for the quilt, gotta love EE. They make very nice kit. Sometimes, I just slip a silk sleeping bag liner over my pad if I don't wish to feel the pad surface. It generally works well. Cheers!
Hi the sleeping bag liner over the mat sounds good, will try that, I like making and moving gear and stuff, and I found afterwards I learnt a lot about tent construction……thanks Pat
What a treat for a Sunday night! I do enjoy your fine dining cookery out in the middle of nowhere but especially liked your kit crit and your inventiveness. Great one Patrick!
Thanks Steve great to share my ideas, and my dinner......thanks Pat
Steak and chips with a pepper sauce in the middle of nowhere lol must be pat...oh and a pudding.great work mate your are the best
Thank you Johnny, yes food a major part of any video for me……all the best Pat
Hi Pat, from Australia. I'm so glad to see you back wild camping. I think you are adorable. I follow some excellent camping UA-camrs, but you are my favourite. Always entertaining and interesting with your snippets of local knowledge, beautiful and challenging locations, and you're a great cook! Love the way you prepare 3 delicious courses in the middle of nowhere with accompaniments - fine dining at its best! The trouble you go to to enhance our viewer experience is greatly appreciated and sets you apart from many others who leave out a lot of what could be very interesting content. Very enjoyable watching your videos, and look forward to more. Stay safe.
This is really nice of you to say, but I want to share my adventures, and hopefully entertain as well....thank you so much......Pat
One of the areas we went as a family. Many happy memories in Whirlow and many ice-creams enjoyed in the 70s & 80s.
Used to be a nice cafe 20 years ago, that went but a new one has recently open in what was the old toilet, very nice cafe now if you are ever up this way.......thanks Pat
@@patrickdickinson6492 Yes, I may well have a stroll over if we get a summer!
Nice camp Pat and you're right, England's green and pleasant land...I lived in Spain for a while on the costa del sol and in the summer it was horrendous heat, like 45c some days and like you say it's barren land. I appreciate and love the green rainy place we call home so much.
Hi John, yes would cripple me that heat, if only we got a bit more sun here......thanks Pat
Another great video. Loved the setting under the Rowan tree. I am also glad were no witches 😜
You are so talented with all the mods to the tent. I hope you find a permanent solution for the door issue.
Looking forward to your next one already. 😊
Thank you Pat!
Yes a very nice and safe pitch under the Rowan, very secluded, hopefully got my tent door sorted which we,ll look at in next video……thanks Pat
Always a pleasure to watch your videos. Your audio sounds nice and punchy. I noticed the dead cat and mic wire going into your fleece pocket.
Do you use an audio recorder and sync it to the time line with a loud "Clap" or is it connected to the camera via blue tooth.
I could almost smell the steak from here too...👍
Hi there I probably do my audio the hard way I record it on a separate Sony recorder then sync it manually when editing. I did try clapping and a clapper board but not much successful , maybe the constant wind noise. I ,am looking at a DJI type of Bluetooth, maybe one day…..thanks Pat
Good to see you, Patrick!
Thanks Jason, and good to hear from you as well......thanks Pat
Pat just makes getting outdoors special...no rush always chilled and enjoyable 😃
Absolutely…the best place to be…….thanks Pat
Great video pat.
You make better looking food out in the wild that I do from home 🤣.
Hi Nathan, yes cooking some nice food is a major part of any wild camp for me.....thanks Pat
True indeed, a Sunday night watching pats videos is a treat. My Lithuanian girlfriend knows him well and does his accent and falls him 'mr dehydrated food' keep up the good work sir
Thank you so much, enjoy the video......thanks Pat
Be right with folk and they'll be right with you. I'm on a camping trip in Dorset. It is just so brilliant. Life is not actually that complicated, as you know my brilliant Pat, everything is right in front of you
Sounds a relaxing and ebjoyable time, enjoy yourselve.....Pat
Good company always, thanks for sharing. Missed the cheeky beer/wine/whisky though ;)
Thanks Steve, great to share these adventures, it was on a non drinking day, maybe next one back to normal…….thanks Pat
That was brilliant Pat. I enjoyed it from start to finish.👍
It was especially good to see a fellow clothes peg user. The clothes peg is the most important piece of camping equipment ever!🙂
Yes invaluable those cloth pegs, but working on something better, always like modding and improving things, you would think these tent designers would get it right in the first place, keep enjoying your wild camping, best thing in the world…….thanks Pat
The Outdoor Gear Review for Saturday night, then Patrick to close out the weekend and prepare for the week of toil. Thank you, Pat...
Sounds a good nights plan Seamus....lets hope you have a good week......thanks Pat
What a brilliant fella you are ,great video Patrick,
Thank you so much Matt.......Pat
This is an amazing video, thank you! See a problem, figure out how to fix it - magical!
Hi Michael, yes I like a challenge, and like I tell my wife and sons, everything is possible,it just might take me along time to sort……thanks Pat
Love your videos Pat I’m having a Jim Beam later on
Hi Cheryl, sounds very nice, enjoy……thanks Pat
Hi pat .another great video. Like the mods on the tent .steak and chips. Eating like a king .always a pleasure watching your adventures mate .
Thank you again..old dave
Hi Dave yes a lovely meal, even I was impressed by the chips…….all the best Pat
The subscription I most enjoy to get a new video from. Cheers Pat.
Very nice of you to say Owen......thanks Pat
Limb Valley, a place I haven't been since I was an early teenager going on walks with my parents on the church walking group events. I think I need to revisit soon, maybe even retrace your footsteps (again LOL). I do like the mods you have made to the tent, very handy. I missed the Rail Ale event this year as we were preparing to fly out to Tenerife on the following Monday. You are right about it being a barren landscape overseas, and the return home to the greenery we have here, is always welcome. Looking forward to your trip up Derwent Valley Patrick. Till the next one.
Hi Andy, we often walk up to the Norfolk Arms at Ringinglow and this just goves you another route, definete man made path, but nice walk through mature woodlands, Barrow Hill great event again with some great beers, one negative side is they now only have plastic glasses, just not the same, may bump into you one day as I.am always walking round that area just for exerercise and enjoyment.....thanks Pat
@@patrickdickinson6492 Hope so. In my last video when I went out on Frogatt Edge, I mused about all the Sheffield UA-camrs, Yourself, Paul Messner, SoloSarahB and Mick(Twiggy Escapes) (are there any others?) getting together for a few jars to swap stories. I'm sure it would be a cracking social. I don't have any other way of getting hold of you other than here. Would this be something you'd be interested in? ATB, Andy
Pat you are a legend, inspirational, very educating wild camper at the finest, to say the least. Awesome work that we benefit from. Thank you so much.
Thank you Scott very nice of you, I just like sharing my adventures......thanks Pat
I had some great adventures in the laser competition 1 version 1 but it had no venting. Light but killer condensation, rained on me with sweat no matter what I did.
Yes can see that being a problem, I have some ventilation at each end, hopefully that will help what is otherwise a great tent…..thanks Pat
Yes mate👍🏾👊🏽
Thank you so much……thanks Pat
Fantastic to see you back out on another camp. Always brings a smile to my face when I get a notification from UA-cam you have a video out. The Terra Nova modification bits are genius . I have the same problem with mine. But I'm not skilled enough like you to convert. I'll have to put up with them 😂 Steak and chips. Superb 😋👌
Hi Steve, yes a great tent with some anoying faults, makes you wonder who designs them and its been going for 20 years. I have modded the flappy door so will look at it on next video, turning my attention to my Soulo now.....all the best Pat
@@patrickdickinson6492 cheers Pat . The Uppet Derwent is superb. Looking forward to your next video. ATB
Another great camp Pat,Greetings from Thailand
Always lovely to hear from Thailand, we are still waiting for summer !!......thanks Pat
@@patrickdickinson6492 you might get a good days … England and summer don’t go together unfortunately
Great way to start my week. Good to see you again, Pat!
Good to hear Paul…..all the best Pat
Legend returns!
Always nice to be out on a hike, a wildcamp, and some nice food......thanks Pat
Brilliant Pat ,looking forward to next adventure 👍
Thanks Stephen, looking forward to it myself as I will have to put all my lightweight kit and ideas into action and will be nice to camp somewhere new……thanks Pat
What a delightful camping spot. Thanks for the video Pat.
Yes a very secluded spot, took a lot of searching out, but I don’t think anybody would know it’s there……thanks Pat
Glad to see you incorporate a quick check of the specs after ramming your tent into its stuff sack these days! 😉 A classic moment in the Pat catalogue of vids, that was! Thanks for taking us along with you once again. You've saved a good amount of weight there!
Every time now "where are my specs " I say to myself.......thanks Pat
Great video Patrick. The spot that you chose to camp was ideal. It was sheltered from any winds 'if it had been windy that is' and also underneath that lovely tree as well. I love trees they are therapeutic to look at and in your case provided you some privacy as well. The whole camp set up looked so snug and the tranquillity and the peacefulness added to the whole video. I am so glad that I found your channel and look forward to your videos each month. Keep them coming because us as viewers love your personality because you are such a lovely laid back kind of person.
Hi Shirallee, yes it was a very secluded camp, yet only 100m from busy public paths, but nobody would find it in the heather, I felt extra safe under the old Rowan tree, it looked very old and had probably experienced some sever weather, but it was like a friend sheltering me, looking forward to venturing to new places up the Derwent Valley......thanks Pat
@@patrickdickinson6492 We have visited Derwent and it is beautiful place. That huge waterfall is amazing as well. It was you that gave me and my husband the inspiration to visit Ladybower reservoir. It is a breath taking view and those huge spillways are majestic when the water is going into them.
Great video Pat, enjoyed watching. Good to see your improvements to the tent, well done 👍
Looking forward to your next adventure. Bye for now 😊👍
Hi Jim yes looking forward to camping in some new places........thanks Pat
Looking forward to your next camp Pat.. TC from Canada 👍🙏🏼
Thanks Kenny hoping to venture up the Derwent valley, a wild isolated area which I,am looking forward to exploring………..thanks Pat
Thanks for the camp along, Patrick 😎👍
Hi Ciliciaann, it was great to share these adventures in the hills west of Sheffield, as you can see very lush and green, just wish it would stop raining and the sun come out a bit more......thanks Pat
Another fantastic wild camp video Patrick, thanks very much.
Thanks Stephen, just above Ringinglow in a area I camp alot, but so many different sites once you look round.......thanks Pat
Always a pleasure when your new vid pops up Pat Atb Coops 👍🏻🍺
Thanks Coops, lovely little hidden spot, and even surprised myself with those chips…….thanks Pat
Great to see you!
You too!......the first comment.....thanks Pat
Thanks, Patrick. 🍺🍺👍👍
A pleasure to share these adventures.....thanks Pat
You do make great videos Patrick thanks for all your efforts
Thank you so much, really appreciate that……thanks Pat
Mate, I’m a gentleman of a similar age to yourself and age isn’t kind.
Physically I’m similar to you, I’m also going bald quicker than a Usain Bolt race.
People can be quick to comment without consideration for others.
I’m delighted that you are the way you are, speak the way you do and make videos the way you do.
Keep them coming. 🎉
Hi Mike and thanks for the understanding comments, we’re all getting older, just got to make the most of every minute we have, here’s to many more wild camps for the both of us……..thanks Pat
Another great camp - looking forward to next one in Derwent Valley. Thank you.
Thanks Malcolm, yes will be great to camp in some new locations ……thanks Pat
Love your work Pat, and the care you put into it. Mods were very interesting - just a note for the mat, we've found a silk sleeping bag liner can work to fit over the mat to lie on - luxury
Hope you were able to visit the sierra nieves and grazalema near Ronda, can recommend if not.
Finally - a treat to meet you at the beer festival, a real delight to meet a real gentleman and very gracious of you to be so polite!
Yes nice to meet you as well and I have so much more to discover in Spain, the silk liner sounds good for the mat, had thoughts of sewing something similar, may see you next year…….thanks Pat
An amazing man in an amazing land,
Thank you so much, a lovely spot to camp.....thanks Pat
good to see u back pat look forward to the next one
Me as well Michael, will be a real lightweight camp.....thanks Pat
Smashing Pat, good to see you back out doing what you enjoy. All the best Mr JIggs
...and some smashing food and tent mods!
Thank you for the comments, lovely place to spend the night......thanks Pat
Belated Happy Birthday Wishes dear Pat! Another fantastic video - thank you. I’m flying back to sunny Sheffield this week.. I’m so looking forward to getting out in those hills. ♥️
Hi Ginette and thank you, another year gone scary. Hope you have a enjoyable time back here, we are still waiting for summer, you can see why England is a green and pleasent land, hopefully the sun will be out to greet you......thanks Pat
@@patrickdickinson6492 You really are an absolute gentleman for always replying.. to everyone. God bless you always ♥️
Very clever of you how you modify your tent Pat - good to see you enjoying yourself 😉🚂🚂🚂
Yes many years of messing about with sewing machines.....thanks Pat
Fantastic to see you out again Pat & on a Sunday evening too! What a perfect little spot, well hidden there! Already looking forward to seeing the next one!!! 🤣❤️xx
Hi Sylvia, yes a very secluded spot, gave me time to relax and chat to you all, got to get myself truely lightweight for the next one, see you in July…..thanks Pat
Another good camp and video. Look forward to the collaboration with Paul if your paths cross again
Perhaps, Paul would like to I'm just a miserable sod who likes his own company.....thanks Pat
If only I had known you wanted a green enan I could have sold you one, it's going on ebay soon. ... Great job with the terra nova, it's so similar to the enan in many ways... May even have a bigger porch by the look of things.
Great hidden spot... Nice to see you out again... Looking forward to seeing your Derwent camp Pat.. ATB 🏕️🙂
Hi Twiggy, yes both tents similar, Enan is better quality, yours will be a great buy for someone, see how I go with my modded Terra Nova for now, may bump into you one day up Ringinglow……thanks Pat
Great video Patrick 👍
Thanks Gary, appreciate that……Pat
Been looking forward to your video, and another great one. Thank you again Patrick
Your very welcome Mark, it was a very relaxing camp, in a nice hidden away campsite......thanks Pat
Thanks Pat, very enjoyable video ! Always interested to see what you are cooking 😂
Thanks John, important part of any camp for me is the cooking, and eating…..thanks Pat
Enjoyed that Pat,nice one 😊
Glad you enjoyed it, great to share these adventures…..thanks Pat
Love the video ❤
Hugs from across the pond Canada xx 🇨🇦
You are so kind, thank you so much…….thanks Pat💕
Another great video Pat, already looking forward to the next! Keep well.
I,am looking forward to camping up the Derwent valley, nice to try new areas......thanks Pat
Patrick, the meals you are able to cook on a single burner gas stove are amazing! Great mod of the tent there too!
Yes one burner and anything is possible......thanks Pat
Well this has cheered me up as it always does when pat makes a video. I got my bottle of beer to watch pat and lo and behold me pat you had no alcohol not even a hip flask I was gobsmacked. Great insight to how you modified your camping equipment to suite you and entertaining as ever. Keep up the good work my friend 👏👏👏👍 @thesheffieldlegend
Nice to hear from you and yes a bit light on the drink, but that’s lightweight camping for you, hopefully a wee dram on the next one…….thanks Pat
Once again another very enjoyable video Pat
Thanks Danny, always nice to share these adventures......thanks Pat
The walk up through whillow to ringinglow, one of my all time favourite routes (and runs when I was far younger 😢) when living in mill houses thanks for sharing this video Pat, just great film, great memories
Hi andrew yes a popular walking route, and a few runners coming through, rather them than me.....thanks Pat
Lovely relaxing video Patrick.
I wish I had places near home to camp. I've got one special woodland spot but stealth camping in N.E. Lincolnshire is difficult. The farmers hereabouts shoot first and ask questions second.
Great to see you posting again. I always enjoy your content.
Take care
Yes can imagine what it’s like near farm land, luckily we can loose ourselves up in the heather…..thanks Pat
Great video Pat, Enjoyed that alot. Look forward to Derwent next time good sir. Cheers. Geoff
Yep I'm looking forward to camping in some new places.......thanks Pat
What a great guy
Thank you Steve, nice of you to say......thanks Pat
Last Sunday afternoon done. Thanks Pat
Good to hear.....thanks Pat
Quality as always top man keep them coming fantastic video 👍🍺🍺
Thanks, will do!…….thanks Pat
I’m going to do this.
Going to get driving lessons soon as then pass test then do all this.
Your the man.
All the best with your driving, and future wild camping ambitions…….thanks Pat
I love you man and I love your content. I don't know if you need to hear that but, DONT EVER GIVE UP and keep it up. God bless you man
Hi and appreciate the kind comments, I would like to think I will keep on going, will have to see…….thanks Pat
Fantastic to see you on a camp again. Lovely location and good weather and great food!
I must say Pat this retirement suits you. Your looking younger.
Thanks again. Regards Joe
Hi Joe yes retirement does definitely suit me, really enjoyed this relaxed camp, and looking forward to venturing up the Derwent valley……thanks Pat
Brilliant thats tonight's viewing sorted ❤
Good to hear that Danny, hope you enjoy it.....thanks Pat
Beats footy
Lovely update and camp Pat. Thanks for sharing
My pleasure Denis….love sharing these adventures…….thanks Pat
Another great wild camp. Interesting with this gear review video. I found your channel 8 years ago from your Hilleberg Soulo video from 9 years ago. How time flies. A lot of great content over the years. Cheers! 🍻
Hi Marty yes remember setting my Soulo up in the garden, wow 9 years that is scary, but the tent is still in perfect condition.....thanks Pat
Nice spot for Steak Chips and Asparagus......I am looking for a tent for a wild camp so a good watch.....🍀👍🏻
Thanks Danny 👍 yes nice to have real food on a camp…….thanks Pat
I love all your videos Pat but the wild camping ones are my favourites. I follow Paul's channel and its a great pic of both of you. He hinted at a joint venture in the future. That's one I'd like to see. Excellent as always.
Hi David yes wild camping is were I started, and it is my main love…….thanks Pat
As always a great video Pat! That meal looked delicious! Thanks for sharing your gear and modifications you've made also. Since i don't own a sewing machine I do all my gear repairs with hand stitching. Takes longer but it's definitely strong. I look forward to watching your next wild camping adventure! Cheers!
Hi Pete done quite a bit of hand sewing myself and does provide a strong repair etc, although the machine is great fun and makes sewing so enjoyable…….thanks Pat
Another wonderful video Patrick
Thank you Antony.....love sharing these adventures......thanks Pat
That food looked amazing!
It was!....so nice and so easy beats your normal camp food ......thanks Pat
So sad that wild camping is so restricted in the U.K. as most land is privately owned..Canada and US best places..great video..thanks for sharing
Yes we do have many laws about wild camping, luckily a blind eye is turned if you are discrete and leave no trace……..thanks Pat
US is crap. Canada's better.
Hi pat, thats my night sorted watching your video ty 😊
Hope you enjoyed it!......and don,t start cooking steak at midnight......thanks Pat
@patrickdickinson6492 haha I won't be cooking anything at midnight pat lol 😆
Brilliant mate....again.
Thanks Mark nice to have dry weather and very peaceful in a hidden campsite ……thanks Pat
Dinner looked amazing. 😋
A small tube of Colemans English mustard would have been perfect.
These cupa soups with croutons are pretty decent nowadays also.
Hi Nigel, yes lovely but simple meal, never thought of the mustard......thanks Pat
You know how your subscribers feel when they see you now. Pat Dickinson, in the flesh😃
I've spotted you out and about. Usually when I'm driving past a supermarket for some reason and never when I'm out walking.
I was with my partner the other week and I'm like look look that's Pat from UA-cam😂
Hi there yes always popping down to Tesco at Abbeydale, I,m only a mile away, and always nice to say hello to my viewers......thanks Pat
Oh how we have missed your camping !!
Me as well, but I,m back now and enjoying it so much…..thanks Pat
Impressive mods on the tent. I can’t wait to see your upper Derwent Valley camp - I love it up there. Very interested in seeing which location you pick
Hi Kevin, yes done few walks round the area and looking forward to different camps, got to be lightweight thought, should be good…..thanks Pat
Another great camp Pat, the steak looked fantastic! Seeing Whirlow always reminds me of the awful Silverdale school cross country route I used to do! 😂
Hi James yes I understand were your coming from being forced to run, I had similar experience at Tapton in the late 1960,s, my claim to fame though is that I can say I raced again Seb Coe, although I was perhaps walking……thanks Pat
I went to Ladybower yesterday and was thinking of Patricks video there, it was really busy!
Hi Frazer, yes busy time of the year especially round there, still a wonderful sight......thanks Pat
@@patrickdickinson6492 Thank you Patrick all the best mate x
Great video Pat, happy to see you out camping, your meal looked superb, take care.
Thanks Dougie, and yes very happy camp, nice location, nice food, just perfect……thanks Pat
What a great camp and food Sir Pat.🫡
Yes it was a great location, very quiet and peaceful....just what I wanted.....thanks Pat
So good to see you out again cooking. You need to weigh your bag when you get home first a better comparison. A great video 😊
Hi Natalie, yes that is a good idea, I reckon I had taken around 1500 g food, so that would of been the difference, still working on loosing a bit more off my base pack weight, not easy…….thanks Pat
Another great video Pat! The meal looked lovely and such a nice location! Cheers, Chris
Yes Chris a lovely green oasis, so well hidden……..thanks Pat
Your videos are always so interesting, informative, and entertaining. Another great one, Pat... That meal looked so yummy.
🌊🏡🙏🏻🌞🏕👏🏻
Hi Rhonda, tasted so good and the chips were something new, and so tasty.......thanks Pat
Great video Pat and really love that campsite, very picturesque, cheers now, Stan.
Thanks Stan, it was a very secluded spot, just perfect……thanks Pat
