This is a kill count of one of the first Gundam OVAs, and the fifth entry in the Universal Century timeline and Gundam series in general, and one of the darkest ones, Mobile Suit Gundam 0080: War In The Pocket, which released in 1989, was directed by Fumhiko Takayama, and distributed by Bandai Namco Filmworks

So I know what you’re wondering. Where’s Char’s Counterattack. Well I did upload it…by it got a big copyright strike and I couldn’t release unless it was a poorly made, mute and awfully cut mess, and since I’m already dealing with enough stress on school, I figured to not stress about it and release War In The Pocket instead, and maybe when I can do something to get the copyright strike out of the way, I can re-upload Char’s Counterattack

They didn’t die, the mother and child are the two main characters, Chris who was holding Al, it didn’t actually crash where they were in the full scene

The first three Gundam counts have a higher kill count than the population of the world combined and then there’s this. I was gonna make a snarky joke about there being a couple of zeros missing but then again, This one probably isn’t remembered that fondly by fans of the series. Or maybe it is. I’ve never seen the other series outside of the original to confirm

Funnily enough, despite having so many less kills. This one is still really dark, and trust me, this is remembered and liked by a lot of fans. Now my next kill count, Mobile Suit Gundam F91, is def gonna live up to those numbers you mentioned

War in the pocket is one of the top entries that touch on what is at the core of Gundam's story. War is hell, and it usually doesn't have a happy ending. Argue it ranks a bit higher then 8th MS team in that regard.
It is definitely remembered fondly, not because it's nice, but because it's not, it's a tragedy, and that's the point.
