Instead.of 1811 criminal investigator positions an alternative is 1810 general investigator. You are still a special agent but don't use weapons and have no arrest powers. I worked for what is now called the Defense Counterintelligence and Security Agency in DOD. Still a rewarding career path which I enjoyed immensely. About 75% investigative field work, 25% report writing. Journyman level goes to GS-12 step 10 unless you want a managers position such as special agent in charge of a field office.
I live in NYC, I wanted to join NYPD but that job is literally dead I passed the exam but I will not join no more. I’m hoping to get into Customs and border protection.
Great information sir. USMC veteran currently working for the federal bureau of prisons. A year away from my Bachelors in psychology, interviewed for the deputy marshals but did not passed the interview. This videos keeps me motivated to keep on applying
In my opinion.....I'll strain away from local and state law enforcement. Reasoning is what you said in the video. On a federal level I don't think you'd have to deal with that type of stuff unless if you're planning on working for I.C.E and those other agencies that the media focus on mainly. I love the videos. I just enlisted into the Air force reserves and plan on getting employed by a federal law enforcement agency on the civilian side. Why not get 2 federal pay checks.😆
@@federallawenforcementcaree9900 When you have time to do so....Can you make a video in regards Military reservists transitioning to federal law enforcement agencies while enlisted. What would be the best option and route to take from your prospective. In addition if agencies would take a federal law enforcement accreditation. I greatly appreciate everything you do sir. P.s. I'll be getting my federal law enforcement accreditation from the Air force as my job will be "Security Forces"
Thanks so much for this video again sir! This one I relate the most to and you’re helping me decide which path I plan to take. May I ask your opinion/advice on something via email?
@@federallawenforcementcaree9900 that’s awesome. I’ve been considering getting a ba in criminology online while I’m in the military and then switching to the reserves and going to law school while in the reserves. Is DEA really open right now? I was just on the website the other day and it said they were not taking special agent applications at this time. Or did i misread something? Love your videos btw. Im 26 and graduated college almost 4 years ago. Have hated all my jobs since then. I want something more fulfilling and your videos are making me consider a law enforcement career more seriously.
Yes they are. I applied for it and email them the required documents and I got a reply that they got my documents. You must have misread it. Scroll about half way down and read the HOW TO APPLY section
Hi. You mention that you don't take a pay cut when going from federal to federal. Does that apply for changing job series? For example, I work in IT as a 2210, but I'm interesting in transitioning to an agent position as an 1811 series. How does that work out when you're transitioning job series? Likewise, how does that effect moving benefits? Thank you in advance and thank you for the videos!
It would depend on the paygrade and series. If you are moving to a GS-1811 criminal investigator, usually the highest you can be hired at is GS-12, and that is with experience. If you are moving from 1811 or covered position to covered position, that is different in regards to retirement than moving to or from a non-covered position. If you are, say, a GS-14 right now, and you join the FBI, you will be downgraded to GS-10, BUT will receive 25% of your salary added in (LEAP) plus you should receive a step increase, so you might even be making more money with the downgrade.
@@federallawenforcementcaree9900 Thanks, I believe that's my case. I'm currently a GS 2210-13 and I was concerned about how much of a pay cut I would take transitioning to a GS-1811. The latest announcement I saw from the DEA was listed as a GL-1811-07/09/11. Hypothetically, would it be possible to get hired on as a GL-1811-11 for this announcement with a step equivalent to my current pay? I have a AAS, BS, MS, and 13 years in the IT field. (Sorry for the multiple replies, UA-cam was having issues)
So say if you were dual sworn as a DEA Agent and State Police Trooper, why wouldnt that trooper have federal retirement pay if they are considering a federal officer.
Honestly the best and most informative UA-camr out there!
Thanks

Good idea. I was in the reserves and many s and l agencies do not want reservists, although they do not say so.

Love this, thanks for uploading.
Thanks for your support
So would going to law school and then applying to the marshals be good?
Absolutely or the FBI or any other agency. With a law degree you can pretty much write your own ticket.

Yes. Go to DEA.gov and click on Special Agent careers. Why its not on USAJOBS I have no idea.
Federal Law Enforcement Careers Thank you!
I would like to start with the bop and then lateral move into USSS.. is that a good move? or should I just become a city and then move into USSS
Great video sir.

Can you transfer federal to federal after age 40?
Is the 2.9 gpa required?
3.0 now for superior academic achievement. You need it for GS-7, but GS-5 does not have a minimum GPA.
Rightfully deserved backlash I might add…
