    I like how the process evolved. You went in expecting it to work one way, applying glue to the letters directly, and end up finding a more effective method as you went!

    Since you don't see the back of the letters, you could print out a mirror image of the letters to glue to the material and cut out. Then when you peel the paper off it's on the back not the front, you don't have to worry about getting off the leftover paper, or getting the side you see dirty (unless you paint it like you did, I guess it doesn't matter as much then!) :)

    hey jimmy .. im working with the same principle using acrylic ..stainless steal ,,,copper ..brass to do signs for stores ..malls ..companies ..cafe shops ..restaurants ..also we use LED lights (Samsung 3 Led bar 12v dc)to light the acrylic

      Yes, he's sanding. It looks to be a piece of sandpaper glued to a piece of scrap 1/2" plywood.

    Was that latex paint? I assume oil based paint would have warped the paper or de-laminated the glue

      Mike Trieu We took the shuttle last year and it was awful too. Parked at Oracle and waited for hours.
      You know it's bad when there is a Twitter hashtag for the MakerFaire shuttle traffic.

    Anybody know what kind of spray on glue that was that he used? Or if not then can someone suggest a spray on glue that I can use? I have some cut out projects coming up that I could use that technique for cutting out shapes.

      That would be Super 77 by 3M, but honestly, Super 77 is pretty tough stuff for that application. Any spray glue would work for this.

    Huh, I just did a project like this- decided it was too much work and ended up laser cutting and laminating to make solid block letters. I did, however, find that wood glue works better on paper than regular glue.

    Too bad the paper couldn't take the paint layers that fast. The "a" long end has been deformed under which I assume is too much humidity

      +Saldainis Use painters tape or Masking tape, same thing different name depending where you are from.

    I wonder if this was just for fun because he could have made a more durable, easier to make, and faster to make version of this using a plank of wood and a band saw.
