In this episode of Diresta, Jimmy makes a beautiful looking glass made from a magnifying glass lens he found in a NYC trash heap.
In each episode of DiResta, artist and master builder Jimmy DiResta (Dirty Money, Hammered, Against the Grain, Trash for Cash) lets us into his workshop, to look over his shoulder while he builds whatever strikes his fancy.

Jimmy, you're one of those rare and very fortunate people who get to know what they were born to do, and to get to act on it, from a very young age. You must be a very fulfilled person, and that's as good as it gets man.
Truly multi talented guy. Great work.
Stunning Jimmy, I really enjoy your amazing talents. Thank you.
this is a real piece of art
Dude, is there anything you can't build? I've been binge watching your videos all week and they are truly inspiring! I don't have the metal fabrication equipment you do, but you've definitely given me ideas for the wood shop.
John Gragg This is a nice magnifying glass handle, but I have a question about the wooden "box horn" thing on his workbench, in this video it can be seen at the very end (for like 20 to 30 seconds). What is that curved wooden box ? It looks very interesting.
I have to say Mr. Diresta, watching your videos on your own channel, and on make, makes me feel like I can build whatever I want, and that feeling of freedom is amazing. I thank you.
I love seeing it go from being a solid piece to something so smoothly crafted.
You started with the barest of raw materials, and made something that looks like an antique. You're a brilliant craftsman.
This Diresta guy has such ingenuity that I'm beginning to realize he can make anything if he sets his mind to a project! I've been watching his vids these past 2 weeks while getting my strength back. Very envious of his boy/girl who's going to inherit all his tools plus absorb so much talent over the years while growing up. Haven't seen any children yet but hope he has some to carry on his legacy. WOW!!
This person is an artist in all his works, explicitly artist and I liked
Seeing this makes me think of my late grandfather. He worked with wood mostly, but the techniques and tools are largely the same. Such craftsmanship seem to be rarer these days. I still remember the days spent in his shop, both with him and my uncles as his company grew to something the family could do well of off. Nice work there Jimmy, makes me wish I could do the same :)
Your talents never cease to amaze me! You make things look so easy.... Beautiful work!
Yet again I sit back shaking my head in amazement.
Diversified DiResta , fantastic workmanship! Thank you for sharing as always!
Jimmy, this is the most incredible thing I've seen you make! And that's saying a lot. You know your way around a lathe my friend...
'The Thinker' oversees all his lathe-work.
Cool build! All them shiny chips...
Your skillfulness never ceases to amaze me.
How do Jimmy's vids get dislikes, the man is a true genius in everything he makes. I've just re watch the trash to cash and all the old stuff he did with John, fantastic.
Jimmy...The best thing on the youtube MAKE channel. Awesome use of materials and creativity. A pleasure as always Jimmy. I need to get in the shop now.
I would have to agree. I only subscribed for him and watch what he makes.
Thank you for the on going support !!
Well deserved Jimmy. You been a huge inspiration for me Making. Happy I can support you!
You make the coolest stuff. Real craftsmanship. Quality work. Things just aren't made with quality now days.
What really blows my mind is the speed at which you work, sawing through those nails like a machine. I'm glad you slow down the footage at parts so we can get a better look, I don't know anyone who could do this in 8 minutes, you're a machine!
Anytime u make something that I think I wouldn't care to make( which is rare)... I find that I'm blown away still at the techniques and tools that u use... And how they can be used to make many other things... So glad you're sharing this with us... Thanks
channels like yours are the coolest. it's awesome watching you do your thing man!
Nicely done. Where I come from that is a magnifying glass. A looking glass is a mirror.
Gotta say, I got a bit confused there too. I guess I read Lewis Carroll too much as a kid...?
Always great to see such beautiful craftsmanship in motion. The macro shot of you filing the bracket was absolutely stunning!
Hey Jimmy...
In the last couple of weeks the only thing i do when i m seating on my computer is to look for a new uploaded video of yours. I have seen again and again all your videos and i have to tell you from very deep inside you are the most inspire person i know. Keep doing this... and be safe...
thank you so much !! that nice to hear !
You are a wizard!!! I can't stop to watch your work
It's somewhat therapeutic to watch this mans videos
Those clamps, so cute!!
Amazing! There is no limit to this mans talent!
Just beautiful, Jimmy. I bet that handle has a nice heft to it.
I've really been enjoying watching you work. Thanks for sharing your projects with us.
don't know how, but i'm always got an oddly satisfying experience everytime i watch your video!
I really enjoy watching you thinking about how to problem solve your way through a project!....Just remember for everyone who says t1hey can buy a similar item for less cost at a dollar store , mass produced items are desighned to be replace, you on the otherhand are creating a family hierloom, to be used and appreciated by your great grand kids, it reminds me of my grandfathers tool box...I was never allowe into it and after he died I had moved out of state so my cousins got all his stuff I know he had several hammers, an old hand powered drll, saws, chisels and a bottle of homemade wlne! Thanks for the talent display!!!!
how could anyone dislike this? this is frickin awesome you rock.
Beautiful! I'm sure it feels nice in the hand, with a feel and heft of a quality piece. Well done, indeed.
THE AMOUNT OF TALENT D HAS IS ALMOST INHUMAN LIKE
Fantastic! I'm always in awe of your creativity and mastery of the many mediums in which you express it.
Thank you !!
This man is an artist
Jimmy, great job as always. I loved the two-handed tapering.
DiResta makes it look _so_ easy. If only I had access to his shop....
believe me ... isn't the shop ....
Oh, I'm sure. But with a shop, I could start to learn
ItSeemsDark You are so right. Put Jimmy on an island with a rock and some driftwood, and he would be making something awesome. It is definitely not the shop. I have most of the same tools, but you are watching DiResta - not watching me!
This man is an ARTIST.....
Is there nothing this man can't do? Wow!
truly very talented guy,i expect many peices of this fine quality work, keep going Jimmy Diresta
Jimmy,
I love the coordination between your right and left hands to create the shape on the handle. You must be a mean mutha on an etch-a-sketch. LOL.
Beautiful job!
Take Care Ken :-)
+ken barker Run a manual lathe for a living for a few months. You'll be doing just like him.
+ken barker My thoughts exactly! Moving that lathe manually like that is HARD!!
You sir are an ARTIST!!!
This magnifying glass is classy as fck.
This is so freaking cool. What incredible talent.
One of my favorites!
To quote the modern poet, Peter Griffin.
"This is freakin' awesome!"
Grand job, another masterpiece!
es increible las cosas que puede hacer este señor con sus manos!!
saludos desde VENEZUELA!!!.
2 days and 7,000 people already saw this. What a bummer! Well I get to see it now, after I comment and "thumbs -up" 1st, ALWAYS and 2nd, kik-bak & watch. NOW I RELAX AND WATCH.............! thank you MR.D.
Jimmy, you got style! Your videos are some of the most entertaining I've seen.
thank you !!! and every one for the positive comments !
Another example of what divides US and British English. A looking glass for us is an old-fashioned name for a mirror. What he's making here is called a magnifying glass.
I'm not sure about that. I'm an American and I thought he was going to make a mirror too
yeah, it's called a magnifying glass here in America too.
thought you were gonna give it the old arm shave test
lol
Inspector Jimmy!
Beautiful! I love the hand work on the lathe.
That handle is spectacular! Awesome job dude!
Another damn work of art!! This guy is amazing. Great job Jimmy. Thanks for sharing this one with us.
absolute work of art by the way jimmy. beautiful as usual.
Beautiful job sir
Another winner Jimmy!!
It is also very educational to share how to overcome mistakes, if you ever make one. People tend to think that professionals don't make mistakes but they do and they also have ways of recovering. People generally edit out those important learning parts to give a clean video but we lose the teaching moment that way.
Jimmy, what to say...
Awesome!
Thank you.
OH MY GOSH THIS IS SUCH A GOOD VIDEO😭 i love how it turned out
Jimmy, you are awesome! Magnificent work!
Ba dum tssss
Very steampunk! Love it.
