This was in 1987. No one would have ever guessed that three and a half decades later, the fabulous Betty White would still be going strong. She's about to celebrate her 100th birthday!! (In Jan. 2022.). EDIT: I can't believe that the day after I typed this comment, Betty passed away. It breaks my heart, but happily she had a truly incredible, long life!
@@jnealah - I just found out and I'm so sad about it. I absolutely loved her. I sure wish she could have made it to 100...it was just a few weeks away. But what an amazing life she led. Take care and Happy New Year.
+Harry Engel Life with Lucy was supposed to go into 1987, the network canceled it way too quickly with several eps that were never telecast, it is possible this ep of the game show aired in 1987. Hoping Life with Lucy comes out on DVD sometime soon!!
You could tell Lucy was having fun. The laughing and joking around she was doing the whole show...she was having fun. One of the only times you’ll hear the full opening track, too - they gave her a long ovation to welcome her on stage. Lot of respect given to her, and very much well-deserved. She is a legend whose legacy will live on forever.
The thing is when Estelle said she was too scared to say anything she probably meant it. Estelle Getty often suffered from terrible stage fright and horrible anxiety before she went on to perform. What an amazing soul to push forward and do her work anyway. 🙏🏻❤️
Al Jolson had that terror as well...During a scheduled performance he became hysterical and couldn't go out on the stage.... His brother SHOVED him out...he slowly got started and put on a great show...
When Julio Iglesias made a guest appearance on The Golden Girls, he was extremely nervous about singing and acting. He was appearing as Sophia’s mystery date and just felt intimidated being in such a huge hit show. It was Estelle who calmed him down and shortened the scene to make it work. Bless her!
Betty White making Lucille Ball laugh and say 'oh Betty, you haven't changed' has made my year! Two comedic legends together laughing a riot in the afterlife ❤❤🤣🤣💫💫✨✨
Only if they both believed in our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ, repented of their sins, and followed Jesus would they ever be in the afterlife of Heaven. If not, then they are in the afterlife of hell for eternity.
I miss these old game shows. Nothing was computerised…it was either mechanical or some dude in the back pulling tabs 😂 I love this. Miss Betty! I always forget how young Estelle is bc she’s so amazing playing Sophia…she was actually a year younger than Bea…that’s great acting! And I love Lucy so much. I went to her museum in Jamestown and got to see her grave. It was a huge stone heart! Love and miss them all.
i've been watching some of the black and white early early episodes of Password, and I wonder if there is a person sitting under the table popping up the lightning-round words. lol.
RIP Betty... thank you for all the smiles and laughs. Reunited with the love of your life, hubby Allen Ludden..you will be missed by so many...including the animals you gave your love & time to...
I was just talking about the history of TV with my 9 year old. Was telling him how Betty and Lucy started on radio and pretty much made TV what it is now.
Lucy gets a standing ovation as she's introduced. That's well earned over time. No celebrity will ever match her success on T.V. ever again. Same with Betty.
I think the only tv star to ever surpass Betty in love and popularity was Lucille Ball, and I'm saying that even now, after our beloved Betty White's passing. However, I'm sure Betty would agree.
Bert Convy's best work was on "Tattle-Tales." Nothing he did after that show compared. LOL. He was a Great Host, Actor, Singer and a terrific Night Club Entertainer as well. Thanks for Sharing!
It's incredible to think Betty White thirty five years ago was already a seasoned TV veteran of 48 years, having made her first appearance on television at the age of 17 in an experimental program called "The Merry Widow" the same year Hitler invade Poland (1939). What's even more remarkable is how her popularity only grew as she became older, Betty becoming something of a national great-grandmother to the younger generation born well after the broadcast of this appearance. What an amazing and deservedly lauded career she had!
Lucy died the same day as my great-grandmother. Two amazing women that I admired. I wish I could have met Lucy. I was only 10 years old and I had grown up watching Lucy’s work. I knew what a gift she was and was sad about losing her and my Mammaw on the same day. 🙏🏻
Looking at Miss Ball here, it goes to show what a truly magnificent actress Lucy was in her fifties mega-hit show (granted, she needed great writing). The Lucille Ball of the 1950's was indeed a phenomenal performer

I loved this game, even more so when Alan Luden was host. I was a child when Luden hosted, so I could only watch it during summers and holiday vacations from school. Bert Convy was cute!!!
This was taped on December 2, 1986; the day Desi Arnaz passed. He and Lucy had their last conversation two days before, on what would have been their 46th anniversary. They said they loved each other and from I have heard, Lucy was hurting over his death.
So glad Lucy had the chance to laugh heartily that day. By then everyone knew that Life with Lucy had been canceled, but it was officially on hiatus, so they billed Lucy and Ann as starring on the show.
Betty and Estelle were playing for the Humane Society of the United States, while Lucille and Ann played for the National Committee for the Prevention of Child Abuse.
