Bill Bixby made sure Betty made it into her seat safely, which was so wonderful, but Allen's "Thank you Bill", was even more so! Such respect by the men not just to the women, but to each other! So glad I was a youngster when this was still prominent, I got to witness it all the time; most impressionable!

So, there I was, minding my own business, watching Match Game 74, when Richard Dawson said something about Password All-Stars. So I searched UA-cam and this came up. So here I am.
@@simpsonstapper1981 No I totally disagree, it is still flirting, keeping the flame going, been married over 20 years, that's what needs to be done and why it's so very important!
It is so surprising and touching to see Richard Dawson -- the ultimate Mr. Cool on Match Game -- so EMOTIONAL on this show! The stakes were high and he cared about the charitable organization. He talked about it many years later on his Television Academy interview. He played in the family week Password episodes with his son Mark. (Film date: February 3, 1974) Has anyone seen those episodes? There are photos on Getty Images; they played against other parent-child combos of Jack Cassidy, Florence Henderson and Helen Reddy. (Updated: I thought it was Dawson's son Gary, but I'm pretty sure now it was Mark, his older son.)
Was very touched by Richard's emotional reaction. He and the others seemed truly vested in the game with good natured sportsmanship. A fantastic share, thanks to the poster.
Jay alhadeff Amen! This series should have kept its daytime recordings archived!! Loved the CBS & ABC editions. I only got to watch the ABC years during summer break from school or IF I was home sick.
this is the most pristine copy of this episode I've ever seen. thanks for sharing. btw, Odd bit of trivia this is the only version of password hosted by Allen where he didn't have to hand those wallet things to the players giving the clues, I wonder why they got rid of the monitors for password plus and then brought them back for super password.
I think it was having to hand out the "wallets" to the players, especially the civilian contestants on the ends of the table, which aggravated Allen Ludden's stomach against the inside of the podium. The podium was eventually padded for Allen, but he soon succumbed to stomach cancer, which was the real reason for his stomach pain.
Perhaps the set budget for Password +Plus could only afford the wallets. I could see standards & practices preferring the wallets to this monitor setup.
So, Richard Dawson did appear on a "Password" show at one time. I also learned that Allen Ludden did play on "Password". It was during the show's 1971-75 run. I hope that episode or episodes still exist in one way or another.
Yes Allen played for a week while Betty hosted (as part of a ratings stunt), someone mentioned there's either a clip or a full episode of it as an extra on the DVD box set of Betty White's pet set....whether that's true or not.....🤔
Allen Ludden appeared in the CBS Password several times. Richard Dawson did a week of CBS Password, too, before the ABC version. I wish all episodes from CBS & ABC were viewable.
It was the Grandmaster Tournament. I'm certain they wanted to give the audience their money's worth by having the four best players go at it for as long as possible.
Hal just having an off day, he still had some good moments in this game that clue for Cattle was incredible. and not to spoil for anyone but if they had gotten into that last game, maybe if that word, Bill might have had a shot at it.
+Robert Lopresti It's just a 3M Datavision, which if some stations used it would be more for slates than for actual programming (unless they couldn't afford it). I guess ABC charged more for a Chyron and Goodson wanted something more computer-generated looking than a Chyron. (Otherwise, Goodson resisted character generators on his shows for years.)
I know it's a tough word to give one-word password clues for but I get the sense that Bill Bixby and Hal Linden didn't necessarily know what Chlorophyll was ;)
Having lost my husband recently, I would say that would be difficult, but comforting as well. I take out old Valentine's Day and Anniversary cards, that's hard to do, but it's necessary, at least I think it is!
This show aired February 1, 1975. At the end, Allen Ludden is plugging his appearance on the Wide World of Entertainment presentation of "It's A Bird, It's A Plane, It's Superman" that evening ("Superman musical").
Brad Jones of the "Cinema Snob" reviewed that godawful "Superman" musical, and so does Emer Prevost did in his "Reaction & Review" a few years back. "Superman: The Musical" was the worst musical ever when it was on TV.
Yes did ever that maybe Betty kissed Allen hand. Because Betty was kissing Allen's hand. Did anyone ever think that Betty and Allen were husband and wife. But that wasn't the first time that Betty kissed Allen's hand. Betty had kissed Allen's once before and it was on password plus. But i think as far the gaze i think that Betty always look at Allen i think that it was the way that Betty at Allen and i think that Allen look at Betty in that way.
You know, I wonder something. They nixed Dawson's Lumber clue for Slumber, but not Knockwurst for Liverwurst. I wonder why. Only thing I can think of is that there's different types of wurst, so it wouldn't be so obvious maybe? Where as Lumber and Slumber are much closer?

Truly, this has some of the BEST Password play ever! Awesome.
Richard Dawson is SO GOOD at these games!
Very bittersweet to see Betty and Alan together on the same stage!
Awesome show and also shows the brilliance of Dawson.
I really love Betty White's passionate shriek at 25:19. That was a truly competitive and nail-biting game of Password!
Betty "If I dont win, Can I still go home with you?"
Allan" Yes, If you dont win you can still come.home.with me" awww
I always loved the flirting between Betty and Allan, plus Betty was one of the best players in Password history.

Im so glad Richard won he deserved it. Great job
I never saw Allen Ludden in such a panic before. The theme for this version is "stress".
No kidding!
$25,000 was crazy money for 1975, the daytime record i believe that was probably part of it.
'Grandmasters' indeed - they took a simple game to a pinnacle.
Hal was having an off day, that’s for sure. But man, Richard was amazing!
I've never seen this version of Password before
Wish more of this version was available as it's awesome gameplay

I kinda wish more of the ABC version of Password was out there.
$25,000 then was almost $120,000 now. No wonder they were so tense.
Very big money. Imagine what that meant for a small organization in 1975!
Man .. that was fun to watch, but really stressful!
The game show intense, the commercials went way back!
Awesome seeing James Noble just shy of the 2:00 minute mark.... In 4 years he'd be Governor Gatling on Benson!
I thought he sounded familiar.
VERY fast paced and stress inducing seamingly, But so smart!

This is the most exciting game show episode I have ever watched! Richard deserved the win. Bill was also great.
This was great fun. You could see Dawson really struggling to get it right because it was important to him to play for real.
+wolfyhound I think Dawson always took playing on game shows for real.
+shoredude2 Exactly why he was mostly picked on Match Game prior to the star wheel.
He was such a good player. On this episode, they all were, but I've got a soft spot for Richard. He and Bill Bixby were FANTASTIC together.
Mrs White kissed Allen Ludden´s hand in 24:46. She was tenderly crazy 'bout him, so cute!!!!
+Ariadna cósima You do realize they were married, right?
Yep. Allen loved him some Betty.and Betty loved her some Allen.

Hal Linden. Last man. Standing
Richard is so cool calm and collected on Match Game, and he’s so passionate on here! I love it! 😂
It's pretty clear that Hal was a distant 4th to the other 3 when it came to how good they all were at playing.

I know it's a tough word to give one-word password clues for but I get the sense that Bill Bixby and Hal Linden didn't necessarily know what Chlorophyll was ;)
when Bill said "breath" I think he was trying to lead Richard to think of the gum flavor.
What, you mean "Clorets"? (Still a horrible clue, since Chlorophyll has to do with the green pigment in plants :p)
+lobstertexas i think it's excel, there's a green flavor called chlorophyll but yeah i agree it's a stretch.
yeah that was all messed up. and I thought that one clue had part of the word chlorophyll in in so it should have been excluded.
And then "lumber" was disallowed for "slumber."
I was really impressed when Bill Bixby held the chair for Betty the way that a true gentleman does. 👏. I wish that all men did that.
I wonder if Betty White sits back and watches her husbands old show.
