Excellent video. I've just completed mine, 2008 shuttle. Your video was easy to follow, the only difficult part was easing out the top rear glides, but gently does it! 😉🤙
This was very helpful thank you. However, the latch kit I purchased from Vanstyle wasn’t exactly the same as the original one. So, I couldn’t just replace the arm with the broken plastic part, I had to replace the whole kit. As my van is a campervan, access to the top and bottom of the window mechanism is very difficult. I fiddled with it for over 2 hours. I managed to get it working, but the butterfly latch doesn’t seat properly.
1. Lubrication: Spray a silicone-based lubricant along the tracks of the sliding windows. Make sure to apply it generously and let it sit for a few minutes to penetrate any dirt or debris. 2. Gentle Pressure: Use gentle, even pressure to try and slide the window open. Start from one side and work your way to the other. Be careful not to use too much force to avoid damaging the window or the mechanism. 3. Cleaning the Tracks: Clean the tracks thoroughly using a soft brush or cloth to remove any dirt, dust, or debris that might be causing the window to stick. 4. Check for Obstructions: Inspect the tracks for any visible obstructions or objects that might be blocking the window’s movement. Remove any debris or foreign objects you find. 5. Heating the Area: If the window is stuck due to cold weather, gently heat the area around the tracks with a hairdryer. This can help to loosen any ice or hardened grease. 6. Manual Assistance: If the window is still stuck, you might need to carefully pry it open with a flat tool. Wrap the tool in a cloth to avoid scratching the window or the frame.
I know this is an old comment but for anyone else looking, if your window is leaking try this….. go outside of the van and push each corner of the opening window slightly. If the side towards the driver/ passenger seat ‘gives’ more than the rear side, you probably have worn guides. A repair kit normally has this included. Remove the window as the video and have a look at the guide inserts. If they are worn flat on one edge then this is probably the reason your window is leaking,( it isnt pushing hard enough against the seals to remain water tight). Replace the guides, clean the rear drain hole before putting back together as there is no access once you put the window back in. Once you put the window back clean the front drain hole. Remember to check with a syringe full of water on each drain hole to make sure your sealant isnt breaching and letting some water get past the drain,( its a 2 part drain and quite a bad system that can leak water inside quite easily). Its best to strip and clean it at least once a year. Put silicone grease on the rubbers while you have the window out too to keep the rubber seal working at optimum.
What is the best thing to do if the bottom track came off. I got my caddy second hand and unfortunately, there was a lot of corrosion in the metal supporting the bottom track. The end result is that the track has come off, how could I fix it without replacing the entire window?
@@MoroccanAnwar Hi there, I ended up trying a few things and found one that works relatively well. You will want tidy up the track and where it was attached to the window. Then you will want to use strong doublesided tape (I used the No more nails one from Pritt). Clamp the window to the top track so that it is held in place and then place the bottom one in place with the tape. The tape is not strong enough to hold the window alone though. You will want to use a strong adhesive. I used Q-Bond because is sets quickly but is incredibly strong. Just make sure when you do the process that you manage to seal the window properly in position. If a lot of water comes through and starts to break down the glue, this will start the problem all over again
Saved me fortune as I thought I needed to replace the window. Thank you!
Omg I’ve been looking for a video like this. LIFE SAVER. Kid 3 is annoyed with getting wet so she’s happy now! 🤘🏼
