Nicely done! But really none of us should have to put up with this. Keeping the rain out shouldn’t be this hard in a modern vehicle. VW should come up with a design fix but they just shrug their shoulders and say it’s your problem.
Really helpful - I've done the same fix on my T5 following your guide. Good that you shared your thinking about how to do the fix too, making the argument for it. Many thanks for posting.
I have a 2006 T5 4motion crew cab kombi factory job. The metal plate which is sandwiched between the runner base and the bottom covered is completely rusted and separated from the main window. Can this be purchased. Thanks
There should be a recall from VW for this issue-this is my third VW van with the issue - 2 x T5, and now T6 with this exact issue. Or a class action by all owners - it's absurd!
This whole isue just got a lot worse - a T6 Kombi had it's slider window fall out due to corrosion behind the slider bottom rail caused by the known leak problem . The rusting [ which is hidden from view ] causes the botton slider rail to sag / drop and the slider window falls out . A very serious safety issue with catastrophic implications .
My bottom rail had become detached at the back end. Can anyone recommend a particular bonding type that should be used to fix it back to the glass? I will also need to carry out the leak fix once the rail is bonded to the glass

My pleasure, and I'm glad it's helped👍
Going to try this on my leaky Kombi windows, thanks for the tip from another starlight blue owner! :-)
Fingers crossed it solves your leaks. ✌
The mystery has been solved a fine hair line crack along the groove causing a leak into my van thanks 🙏
I'm glad you've found your leak. Hopefully new sealant will fix it. Cheers.
Great video. Thanks for posting.
Do the leveling with finger before removing the tape for a cleaner seam :) Great video.
I did, but it left a tiny lip when I removed the tape which bugged me. Cheers.
Hi, how do you replace the long plastic strips that sit under and above the window?

THANK YOU! I'm going to be doing this..
Hi.
I have a t6.1 that has this same issue. It’s a slightly different window mechanism but how did you get the window out to do this repair please?
You can hinge it inwards. As the upper and lower pins are retracted. You can hinge the whole window inwards and take it off completely.

Same thing exactly happened on my VW Caddy!
Groovy....thanks
Did this end up working in heavy rain?
Hi there. Yes, it's been fine and leak free since doing this👍
Have you had anymore leaks since?
Hi Adam. Not a single drop has got inside the van since I did this👍
@@d2cdl Mega, thanks so much for this, just bought a T6 I love other than the leaky windows! Will give this a try and report back, much appreciated
@@OxenNorth Good luck bud🤞

Did you find an answer to this question? I have the same problem on my VW Caddy.
I had to replace with a new window.
Now fixed both sides
That's great news. Please keep these comments updated if anything changes. Cheers.
I’m trying that. I’ve done all the other options.
Lets us know how you get on. Good luck.
@Nathan Smith Did it solve your problem?
