They are the most underrated rock bands. Love these guys!!
Along with UFO. 🎸
I agree along with The Mission UK and Jesus and The Mary Chain..
They're certainly not underrated here in the U K , maybe in the U S but back in the day American record companies had it's head up it's own backside when it came to rock music from the U K .
@@michaeldooley5398 I'm not sure I agree with that, I recall a lot of English bands signed w/ American labels in the 70's and 80's. Also got big pushes from American radio and Mtv, new wave was huge in the states as was NWOBHM. I think as for the Cult, they had a few big hits in the states but I think whihc was a big deal was the question " What were they"? Punk, New Wave, Rock, Hard rock? they were a mix of all of it and I think people didn't know exactly where to place them, which a lot of radio stations in the US were very genre specific. And with bands like the Cult stations just didn't know where to place them.
@@ryant3600 It's not just the cult , a lot of U K bands were ignored in America the Clash had one big hit rock the Casbah in the charts , they made it sort of underground , British bands who had 20 hits in England had say two in America , American record companies maybe made more money out of American bands , Joe public in America missed out on a lot of British rock which was quite frankly some of it was a lot better than what the American bands did .
Such a great band and song! "Love Removal Machine" is also one of my favorites by them 🤘
Excellent suggestion! The entire Electric album is outstanding
@@ericweber1969 I'll third that vote. Such a rockin' song!
Love Removal Machine, yeah probably my favourite too, that shit really fires me up, feel like i could walk through walls when thats playing :)
Billy Duffy is a criminally underrated guitarist.
Love The Cult! Definitely hit up "Sweet Soul Sister" & "Wake Up Time For Freedom". Singer's name is Ian Astbury.
Check out the live version of American Horse its just straight up next level
Ian Atsbury is the lead singer. He's known for his charasmatic stage prescence, his delivery and of course his incredible voice. He was often compared to Jim Morrison in their later stage, like with Fire Woman, and he actually did end up singing with the remaining Doors members for awhile!! The Doors guys loved him and he's one of the only singers who can do Jim Morrison justice.
Ian is amazing. My dad actually named me after him
@@ianpersoneus6249 So cool, you've got a great dad!
The Cult is killer! This track is cool, I also like "Fire Woman."
Yes! Love it, and I think Amber and Jay would like it too.
Fire Woman is amazing.
I requested a different one earlier but I second "Fire Woman" as well.
naaaah Poor man's ACDC
They already reacted to Fire Woman last year.
Billy Duffy is one of the most underrated guitarists ever!
You just had me listening to 'Aphrodisiac Jacket' by The Cult.
Saw them live back in the day. Amazing band.
You picked a good one. Nice to know.
looks like Billy Idols doppelgänger
The Love album is full of killer songs. I played the hell out of this album back in 1985. Ian's voice is one of my favs and Bily Duffy's look and his big hollow body guitar is just bad ass.
I listen to at least a couple of songs from Love daily , also Smashing Pumpkins "Gish" . I've worn so many copies of those CD's out over the years.
I think LOVE was one of the greatest rock albums of all time. I know that's not likely a popular opinion about town, but that album was gold from start to finish... hate to think about how many times that hit my turntable in the 80's.
IMHO, their catchiest song; the guitar riff is so mesmerizing and the chorus sticks in your mind... you end up singing it all day long after hearing it!
The whole "Love" album is solid. Love this band. Only caught them twice live, first time during this tour ("Love") and the other when they opened for Billy Idol on his ill-fated "Cyberpunk" tour and blew him out of the water.
Saw The Cult for the first time in January of 1987 in England as an undergraduate studying abroad. I have seen them three times since then. Always a great show. Ian Astbury is an excellent vocalist. They are one of the best from the 80s and still touring as well as producing new material.
I saw them twice in the late eighties in LA one of my favorite bands from my younger days…
@@audracrawford8836 Yes, I saw them in 1989 opening for Metallica on the And Justice for All tour. Then again in 1992 for the Ceremony tour. Lenny Kravitz opened for them. And finally in 2001 when they opened up for Aerosmith on the Just Push Play tour. Would love to see them again.
@@kbusby4824 i saw them with Lenny also and again with Bonham JR on New Years Eve in Long Beach Ca, it was an epic show…
Yay, more Cult!!!!Thank you! For another hard rocking song from them, Love Removal Machine hits hard.
Great freaking band! Basically, anything from the Love, Electric, and Sonic Temple albums is fire! 🖖🏼
❤ Rain is just a great tune. If not done yet definitely do Edie and Love Removal Machine..Ian Astbury on vocals and the great Billy Duffy on geeetar
Looooooooove this band, so many great hits to choose from.
AHHHHH The Cult. One of my all time favorite artists. This is off the album Love i HIGHLY recommend you guys check it out!
You guys have come such a long way since you started. I just love it. You know the names of groups, singers and other songs and can compare them to other artists. It’s amazing to see your progression and you guys really know what you are talking about. I feel like a proud mama watching how much you know now. Kudos! 👏👏👏
💯
OMG, the Cult have such an awesome back catalogue. Lil Devil, Fire Woman, Edie (Ciao Baby), Sweet Soul Sister are all incredible tracks.
"She Sells Sanctuary" is my favorite from them followed by "Fire Woman." Nice mellow tune.
The Cult has so many great songs! My favorite is probably "Sweet Soul Sister", but it is hard to pick just one.
As the guitarist in a Cult tribute band, I love this band! The evolved from a more Goth background to a more straight ahead rock band! Billy Duffy is a class act, brilliant guitarist and such a nice guy too! Listen to Rise for something heavier or Wildflower for more of an ACDC vibe! Good choice again Amber and Jay!!!
"Phoenix" is my #1 piece of balls-to-the-wall electric guitar! The instant Billy Duffy starts shredding, it's non-stop until the end of the track!
You must be a really good guitarist !! Don't waste it doing covers.
In the clubs back in the day, this song would FLOOD the dance floor every time.
Ian Astbury is one of my favorite singer and Billy Duffy is such a good guitarist. You should check out the album Electric, especially Love Removal Machine and Lil' Devil. It has a 70's hard rock feel to it. The Cult are one of Britain's most American Hard Rock sounding band out there.
I'll put in my vote for Fire Woman also. My favorite Cult song. One of my old bands used to do it and kicked butt on it EDIT: I forgot you guys already reacted to Fire Woman. Great Job.
They've done Fire Woman already.
Still need to hear The Cult - Love Removal Machine - Lil Devil - Wild Flower - Sweet Soul Sister
The entire album “ELECTRIC “ is absolute fire!! 🔥 Peace Dog. Love Removal Machine. Memphis Hip Shake. King Contrary Man.
Lil Devil, Wild Flower. They have probably listened to not their best songs. They should hit Electric and Sonic Temple hard
Love is their best album.
Memphis Hip Shake 👍
Oh and lest I forget Aphrodisiac Jacket! Love that tune
💯
Their 40th-anniversary tour kicks off in the US on Oct 6th. They will play a setlist from their days as Southern Death Cult through to Death Cult, and up to The Cult’s first two albums 'Dreamtime' and 'Love'. Great live band!
I LOVE this song!!!! My band and I cover from time to time because it is so awesome. Most of the audience isn't familiar with it, but there is usually somebody who does know it and is very excited to hear us cover it.
LOve LOVE this band..Ian the lead singer is such a great front man.....glad you guys got back to this group!!!
This honestly sounds like a 70's tune...I guess thats why it sounds so good. First time hearing this.
One of the few 80's hard rock bands I never got to see live. There's a sadness about that. What a great band. Cherish those years seeing them on MTV's Headbangers Ball every Saturday night.
THE CULT IS MY FAVOURITE BAND OF ALL TIME, AND FOREVER. THEY HAVE A MUSICAL LEGACY OF GREAT SONGS AND PERFORMANCES THAT SPAN FORTY YEARS .THEY ARE STILL MAKING NEW MUSIC, TOURING, AND IAN ASTBURY IS STILL GORGEOUS AND ROCKIN' MY WORLD❣️
WHAT?
@@O_Towne_Bear "WHAT" part did you not comprehend???🤔
Love Removal machine used to blast from our stereo in the morning back when i was in the Navy.
Ian Astbury is definitely one of the greatest rock-n-roll voices of all time, and Billy Duffy is criminally underrated as a guitarist, created some of the most iconic riffs in rock music
Those ladies were from Doctor and the Medics. Check them out too. 😊 Oh, and my cousin dated The Cult's drummer in London in the late 80s just before he was fired.
The bass player is just magical
❤❤❤The Cult is one of my fav bands!! & I agree, " She sells Sanctuary " is also my favorite Amber!! Love, love, love them! Loose my voice every time I see them in concert!
This song is also fantastic, like many of their songs!
Ian played with the Doors of the 21st century, some years ago! He did a fantastic job, was such an amazing show at Casino del Sol, here in Tucson ! Was a magical night!!❤🌌🎇 no doubt I commented this info in past Cult songs you reviewed!! Wooohoooooo🎉 love your💓 channel!💃🌟🌹🌷🎼🎶🎵🌨️
If you like The Cult, you should try Echo and the Bunnymen and their song “Lips Like Sugar”. Another good one is The Mission UK song “Kingdom Come”.
Yes to Echo and the Bunnymen!
probably best to start with Wasteland
The Cult is yet another great band to come out of the 4AD/Beggars Banquet label family, along with Bauhaus, Dead Can Dance, Cocteau Twins, This Mortal Coil, Tones on Tail, etc, etc, etc.
Was a huge fan of this group back in the 90s. Sweer Soul Sister is a killer .
Great band great tune the 80s were a good time. I've read the other comments and they suggest a great songs one I didn't see mentioned was Love Removal Machine. As always great show thanks
She sells sanctuary, Eddie (Ciao baby), Wild flower, Sweet soul sister, The witch etc - so many great tracks!
Next KILLER Cult song to do "LOVE REMOVAL MACHINE". Video version !!
I saw them in concert….they were awesome!😎
I hope you react to “Wild Flower” next. It will definitely get you jammin. You’ll immediately be hooked by the opening guitar riff.
Ian Astbury is a mix of Jim Morrison of The Doors and Freddie Mercury of Queen but most people accuse him of emulating the former and ignore the latter. Especially on the track "Edie (Ciao Baby)" -- Ian is in full blown Freddie Mode on that track. Multiple times on "Edie" and "She Sells Sanctuary" he's sounding just like Freddie it's crazy. You both should react to "Edie" next, and if you're wanting a more darker and heavier side of The Cult, there's "Rise" off thier last really good album "Beyond Good And Evil" -- that album is fire from start to finish and deserved better sales and promotion from thier label. You two will love "Rise" -- heavy intense workout music that has a similar message to the one you leave at the end of every video! 😊
Love The Cult! I saw them with Billy Idol back in the 89. Rock Stars! 🤩
The Cult is so amazing and underrated
I am blessed to have a sound system that will blow your shorts off when you listen to these videos cranked man I wish everyone could feel the power of these recordings it is unreal 🙂
“Wildflower”. Banger from the Cult.
Some Depeche Mode live in concert please
“Never let me down again”
“Personal Jesus”
I saw Ian Ashbury when "The Doors" reunited back in like I think it was '97 and he absolutely killed it! The Cult is freakin awesome!
WHen you're dancing AND sneering.... You're diggin' it.
This song has prepped you for yer next song lesson from The Cult....LOVE REMOVAL MACHINE will Blow You Away!!!!
7 times in concert each better then the last!
Ian Astbury always had a Jim Morrison style and even toured with The Doors as their lead singer briefly about 20 years ago.
SWEET SOUL SISTER is a must, one of their best songs..
I grew up with this music, and I can never getting enough of the voices that are methodical. It’s like being in a dream state.
Hard to surpass 'She Sells Sanctuary', which You Guys Reacted to a few months ago, but this is also Great! Great Reaction, You Guys! :) OK- Checked, and it was 2yrs ago you Reacted to 'She...'. Guess I checked another Reaction Channel that YT recommended, but Rob Squad is #1!!
A few years back I saw Ian Asbury fronting the Doors at a local concert, Street Scene, here in San Diego. He was a great Jim Morrison!
The Cult, "Sweet Soul Sister" absolute must reaction.
Just love how their songs seem to move. Driving driving driving!! Next has to be Edie(Ciao Baby),
Yeah The Cult! I was talking about the lead singer with my friend the other day. I think you'll like "Love Removal Machine" too. Just a few seconds in and Jay will be saying Hey, hey, hey. 😀
Jay & Amber, For a great instrumental, Billy Preston’s “Outa Space”!!! Billy plays several different keyboards on this very funky song!!!
You said you wanted to do some instrumentals, and this one will get you out of your chairs!!!!
Thank God this music and these groups only were popular for a few years. I love music and I understand those that do also including liking music that I don't have a particular interest in. Every generation has their music and because of their hormones and their age. There's a few year period were really sticks with you. No matter what it was but when looking back at all, the different types of music over the past 40 years or so, which due to my age. I have been through, you can decide what music itself stands on its own as great music. Not what was popular at a particular moment. So I know there are many that like this music. Both the spectacular band and the music of that time. But when I look back on all the Different decades, it definitely is on the bottom of my list.
Glad to hear praise for the bass. Drums are excellent as well.
Thanks for doing this! The Cult are tremendous. "Heart of Soul" would be the song I'd recommend next, a little slower tempo but powerful.
Hollow Man is my favorite track off the Love album. Fire Wonan might be my favorite Cult song period.
She Sells Sanctuary
Here Comes the Rain
Ciao Eddie
Fire Woman
Are all such great songs.
The lead guitarist Billy Duffy, super talented, looks so cool in this video.
One of the original 80's goth bands and still playing concerts today.
Next to "Fire Woman" this is my favorite Cult song. Such a fantastic underrated rock band. I've seen them live twice 20 years apart and they were amazing both times. Thanks for listening to this banger. Lead singer is Ian Asbury.
Same here. Next to Fire Woman this track rocks!
The track (and video) of my teenage years. Oh, the memories... Still loving it!
I won 2 tickets in 1990 to see the cult at the Santa Barbara County bowl… They also sent me this little card that said that I was to be “personally brainwashed by the band“… Way cool hehe !!
Great Band/ Concert. Thanks for sharing!. 🙏👍👊☮️
I saw The Cult live a few times, great times...Thunderbird wine and The Cult, oh what happy memories, or what I can remember 😂
Hey guys!!! Good reaction!! Thanks. I saw them live. They're amazing!!! Thanks again. Greettings from Argentina
Thank you for visiting The Cult again. Would love to see you react to my favorite song from them, Wildflower.
I love this album! Great band! They still rocking all over! 👌😎👍
"Wild Hearted Son"...favorite song by them, and awesome video as well.
I like "Fire Woman" and "Sweet Soul Sister." Absolute Bangers!!!!
I was obsessed with this video for awhile because of the backup singers. Apparently, they are called The Soultanas lol
This is the sound of the 80s becoming the 90s - proto alternative. It might not be obvious - but listen to this thinking about Soundgarden.
they have a boatload of great rock songs!
His strong attraction to microphones is very amusing.
Back in the 80s when this came out ('85? '86?), the 60s psychedelic throwback reference of this song (and video) really stood out... as I recall, Dream Academy's 'Life in a Northern Town' was out around the same time, and probably started me off delving into 60s music. The entire album that this is from - 'Love' - is worth checking out... and the earlier, 'Dreamtime'!
Oh man I was waiting for you guys to react to this one. It’s a good one!
The Cult in my opinion is the most underrated Rock band ever!🤘
Oh, sweet memories!!!! Me, black Goth girl, and my then bestie, white Punk Goth girl with the best cotton candy platinum mohawk ever, used to sing this song every single dang time it rained for two years straight. And yes, we danced like the two girls (they are the Anadin Brothers) in the video as well... GOOD TIMES!!!!
Request: you two reacting to Siouxsie and the Banshees - Dear Prudence.
Classic tune, from Love album, where She Sells Sanctuary is found also. Pls check out next their "Wildflower", "The Hollow Man", and "Love Removal Machine".
I LOVE rain. Sunny days depress the heck out of me.
Of course they liked it :) Got to see them live twice in a week when they were in Australia in early 90's.
I still listen to this song everytime I am out for a walk... I love this band
THAT BASS THAT YOU LIKE SO WELL, IS BEING PLAYED BY THE FABULOUS JAMIE STEWART❣️
She Sells Sea Shells is my favorite by The Cult, too!
Next, you should check out the song, Edie (Ciao, Baby). It’s about actress Edie Sedgwick, an actress who was part of Andy Warhol’s Factory scene/crowd who died of an overdose in 1971.
Ha! Amber’s reaction at the 3:20 mark when the microphone gets.......engulfed. 😂
He has such a brilliant unique voice as if he was singing from some mountain range far way.
They big rock star by being on mtv and being on mtv award show and winning 🏆 and great live music great song
Sweet Soul Sister and Edie Ciao Baby!!! This band is fantastic and I think they are doing a tour pretty soon. Doing music from their Southern Death Cult days.
Prince made love to the mic too in Little red Corvette.
My favorite cult song. Awesome
Love you guys. Thank you for doing this. Makes me smile even when I don’t feel like it. Beautiful ❤️
I bought the album 'Love' in 1985, contains Rain & She sells sanctuary, still one of my favourite records! I've had the pleasure of seeing them live in the UK a few times, always a great experience 😉🤟🤟
Love Removal Machine is another early hit by The Cult
The Cult is essentially Ian Astbury (vocals) and Billy Duffy (guitar)... Jamie Stewart (bass/ keys) was a prominent member, but he quit the band around 1990 because he was apparently fed up w/ the infighting between Astbury and Duffy...
Major drummers like Eric Singer (Kiss), Matt Sorum (Guns N' Roses) and John Tempesta (White Zombie/ Testament) played in The Cult as well... U gotta check out the ballad - "Edie (Ciao baby)" by The Cult 🔥🔥🤘🤘One of their best songs!
