Hi, my son just got a boat with a 99 Mercury 25HP. It’s been sitting for years. Lots of dust and debri under the cover. Can we start by trying this OR should we take it out and soak in carb cleaner? Someone suggested we do that. Thanks for your time.
Hi H Henderson, thanks for watching. You can try to start the outboard by adding some Seafoam in your fuel mixture that will help to clean your carburetor. I would suggest you start your outboard out of the water "with water running in your motor flusher". Make sure once the outboard is started that your water pump is passing the water in the outboard. You will see the outboard shooting water by a tube "usually in the back". If the water pump is not working, it will cause your engine to overheat pretty fast. You need to trust your engine before going in the water. It’s not fun to have engine failure on the water ☹ So try to have your engine top shape before going on the water. Get a motor Flusher not expensive and very useful. Keep us updated. hope this helps
I have a 25 mercury. How do I determine the yr? It's old and also doesn't have carburator cover??? Runs good! Serial # has numbers and letters but no indication of year???
Hi Boat, RV & Me, thanks for watching. I usually go on this website to figure out the year of the motor: maxrules.com/models/Merc_model_files/15-25.php Let me know if that helps :)
Sounds like it's not hitting on 1 cylinder at idling, Mine sounded just like that, fresh spark plugs and it smoothed out, I have a 1993 25 HP Mercury, still running strong
Hi J. Johnston, thank you for watching and commenting. Always fun to have good support 👍. I love this outboard. I had changed the spark plugs after that video and it sounds much better now. Looks like you where on to something 👍
Hey Joe. I have a 1987 that doesn't have the carburetor cover that yours appears to have. It isn't shown on any of the parts diagrams either. Do you know anything about that?
Hi The Disner Channel, thanks for watching, I have a 1993 25HP and the part number for that year is 17442 and it’s called cover carburetor. I found this on the mercury site. 👍 I hope this helps. let me know :)
@@joetheboatguy5394 Thanks. I'll check it out. The parts list for the '87 on the merc site doesn't show it but I suspect it may be the same for either model. Looks like some basic differences between yours and mine. No cover listed for mine so I guess it's just let it suck the sea gulls in and see what feathers fly.
@@thedisnerchannel2089 after much research the carb cover part # 17442 is no longer available. Will have to get one off old parts engine??? Also head assembly is no longer manufactured. A dinosaur for sure. Hope my 1990 25 hp keeps going for a few more years!!!
I have a problem when I accelerate with my throttle it idles but if I don't accelerate with my throttle it goes full throttle so something is not right do you happen to know what?
My quick silver 2000 is push to accelerate. Middle is neutral and Pull back for reverse. Is yours the same? It’s hard for me to figure it out when I don’t see your setup ☹️
@@joetheboatguy5394 how is this working on the attachment couse when u forward the throttle cable close but in the video shows that is pushing the attachment mount on the motor and in oposite direction a rod is pushing carb
Hi @manuel k , When you "lift to fast Idle" upwards it will make your idle rev at a higher revolution (accelerating in neutral). By lifting this it will lock your Main going forward and reverse lever. To unlock you’re "Main going forward and revers lever" you will need to bring your "lift to fast Idle" back all the way down. You have 2 cables to connect to you engine the "lift to fast Idle" and "Main going forward and reverse lever" cables. Not to sure if i answered your question because i didn't fully understand it. If i didn't answer i apologize and let me know what you would like to know. Happy boating :)
Did this in my boat idols way better! Thanks man
Great to hear! 👍
