can we connect the illumination wire to the parking light plus wire.is it ok
Hi Love-r5h, thanks for watching. Yes, The illumination wire can be plugged on the parking light wire if you can find it, that’s where it usually goes.. 👍
Why do the L/R Turn and Stop Lights use the same wire? How do they work?
Hi huanqingwu, thank you for watching, When you press on your breaks, both the green and yellow wire will send a constant 12 V at the lights, that will mean that your brakes lights will be on. When your right flasher on your vehicle is on, your green wire will receive a on and off 12 V so it will make your light flash Same goes for the left side with the yellow wire. Now, if you have your brakes on and your right flasher on at the same time. Your green wire will receive on and off 12 V, and your yellow will have a constant 12 V. So the right side will flash and the other side will be constant On. Let me know if this helps 👍
You forgot ground wire.
hi kayingyang, thanks for watching, I talk about the ground wire at 1:00 to 1:30 sec check it out 🙂 I know putting the ground to chassis is not the best way but 95% of trailers are done this way. 👍
Hi man. Do you know how I could see what year my 30 model is ?
Hi Sveaisland, check out this website let me know if this helps 👍 www.seawaymarine.com/pages/mercury
Hi could you explain this a solar panel and a boat motor boat charging system ( do i need to switch of solar incoming current before using the boat motor incoming current ...or could i add a 1-2 switch an cut of the solar incoming
Hi VijayGocool, you can add 1-2 switch if you really want protection. But your solar panel should have a diode that will let voltage travel just one way. So your panels would only really work once your outboard is off. Hope this helps.
Hello Great video, but I have a question. I am an RV owner and would like to connect the radio via TWO WAY switch so that the radio is normally working via the ignition, but when I am parked I turn the switch to my leisure battery which is powered form a leisure battery.I understand that I can do this so that I connect position 1 of the switch to the ignition, position 3 to the leisure battery, and the middle one to my radio. But, what do I do with the yellow wire? Is it still connected to a car battery or a leisure battery?I hope this makes sense. Thank You
Hi zv5231, thanks for watching and nice comment. Ok if I understand, you want to install your radio in your RV but be able to use the power from the vehicle battery unless your parked and unhooked from vehicle. If that is correct, then you want to connect your yellow wire to the leisure battery that is always in your RV. When ever your yellow wire is disconnected you will lose your setting in radio (like clock or programmed stations) that is why I say to have it connected with the RV battery 👍 Hope this helps
@@joetheboatguy5394 Thank you, the best thing to explain is to send you this link, it explains what I am trying to do. ua-cam.com/video/r255UfWg5mE/v-deo.html Is the red wire only a signal to turn on the radio and most of the power is coming from the yellow wire or is the majority coming through the red wire? What I am trying to ask is if I leave yellow connected to the car battery and red is feeding from the leisure battery via a two-way switch is it going to drain the car battery or is the majority of power coming from red and yellow just to keep losing memory in the radio ect.
hello, Red wire will turn radio on and use more of the power. The yellow wire is mostly to keep your setting in radio, but without the yellow wire your radio will not start. Ok with your new explanation and video. I would connect the yellow on vehicle battery since in reality your radio will never be disconnected from vehicle battery. I though you wanted to install your radio in a camper with can disconnect from vehicle but that is not your case :)
@@joetheboatguy5394 Thank you for the great explanation and for taking the time to help me.
Thank you this was very helpful very concise
Thanks for your prompt response.
My house battery is in a remote location. Can I attach the positive charging wire to the battery switch? And the negative charger wire to a common ground? Thanks
Hi 99tsr, thanks for watching, yes you can :)
Nice, bien expliqué. Bonne job!
Merci! 😊
Thanks for the usefull info
You saved the day my man thank you so much
Appreciate you watching! 👍
Why is not good option to charge both batteries at one time over the main switch?
Hi pilipoff, thanks for watching. OK here we go, when you are set to BOTH position. startup battery and deep cycle it can be done but it can cause a loss of life of both batteries due to the differences in capacities and charge rates. That is why I say its not a good option but totally doable if needed. :) If I don't mention that it can possibly cause issues, my comment area would be full of people saying that it can cause problems LOL. So I mention it :)
@joetheboatguy5394 Thanks a lot! Finally I got an answer for the question 🙏
Hello, I have 24v batteries at 150ah, and the website says they can have 2 series 6 parallel. Wouldn't that make it a 48v?
Hi Odacoda, thanks for watching. When you connect in series your add the voltage. When you connect in parallel your add the amperage. If you have 2 x 24V 150ah batteries in series it will add up to 48V at 150ah. If you have 6 x 24V 150ah batteries in parallel you will have 24V at 900 ah. Hope this helps :)
@@joetheboatguy5394 thanks
Thanks! I'm taking a swing at it tomorrow.
Good luck! Hope it goes well. 👍

Does the aux 12v need to be grounded too?
Hi jonesey, thanks for watching. Your 12v aux is for whatever accessory you want to connect 12v to. The accessory that you connect your 12v to, will have a ground to be connected. Hope this helps 👍
What is pink wire and where does the end off instrument hook to ?
Hi user, thanks for watching, don’t forget to subscribe 🙂. On Boats, Pink Wire is for a Fuel Gauge Sender to Gauge usually. Now it all depends on if it’s original wiring or modified wiring. Hope this helps 👍
Hello, thank you for the nice and understandable video. I have a problem in my boat that goes in roughly the same direction. So I installed three more batteries for the installation of my depth sounders. All three batteries have their own circuit. I only have very little space available and that's why I had to carry out the installation like this. I now want to create a potential equalization via ground. Is it possible to incorporate these necessary extensions/changes into this plan as an example? Or can you please explain the necessary changes to me in writing? Greetings from Germany Christian
HI christianchmielewski, thanks for watching and nice comments. Are all your separate circuit 12V, or do you have a 12V and 24V?
Hello Joe, thank you for your answer. All the circuits are 12V. If you give me a possibility to Share a Drawing-File with you I can send you my actual Installation as a PowerPoint or a pdf file. Regards Christian
Hi Christian, I don't think its necessary to do it, but one simple way is to connect all your batteries grounds on one bus bar. Let me know if that works for you.
My gauge looks very similar to this but it's not marked as to which is the power and which is the sending terminal. I'm not getting any reading at all and it has a brand new sending unit. I switched the wires and still nothing could this be fried?
Hi Icwatts, thanks for watching , if you connect the power (+12) and the ground your needle should move to the E mark empty. You might not have the right sensor. So test only with power and ground. Let me know the result 👍
@@joetheboatguy5394 thanks for the reply! this gauge is on a '68 VW...its not marked as to what is the "signal" terminal, or which is the "power" terminal. no matter what i connect the gauge reads E
Try looking at this webpage, let me know if this is your gauge www.jbugs.com/product/113957063B.html
Hello everybody
What happens if i charge both batteries like this, while the selector switch is in the "both" position?
Hi brod. Thanks for watching both batteries will get charged, but since they have different amperage in the long run, it might affect the batteries. That’s why I put a charger with two outputs so each battery is independent on charging and you could have your switch on off so it doesn’t affect anything else on your boat also. Let me know if this helps. 👍
Brilliant and consice.
You did an incredible job explaining this thank you thank you thank you
My light kit came with only the ground wire connected to the 4 pin and not the lights, so that means I don't need to splice the 4 pin ground wire to be connected to the lights .. right?
Hi boxout, thanks for watching. OK let me see if I understood correctly, so your lights do not have a ground wire. Is that right? if that’s the case, then the bolts of your lights are your ground which are connected on your trailer which is grounded that way. On your 4 pin in the front, of the trailer you still need to connect your white wire on the frame to ground the rest of the lights. Check the video at 1 min 9 sec, I talk about some lights not having the ground wire. Let me know if this is right. Hope this helps. 👍
@joetheboatguy5394 ya that's what I thought you meant thanks for clarifying.
Hey Joe. Sorry for terrible quality video but just wanted to confirm where the 2 wires go for red switch. Or, do i still need to even connect the switch if im going to turn key in controls? Here's video but sorry for quality as it was dark and i struggled to keep area lit byt still record : ua-cam.com/video/EUE4vn4CThI/v-deo.html
Hey Mike, I see you did some good advancement. I will send you a video soon for the kill switch 👍 For the white wire I think it’s a tachometer wire you won’t need it if that’s the case.
Here you go Mike check this out: ua-cam.com/video/uLzJqLj7fBQ/v-deo.html
For the gas line yes you can remove the end connector and put it in the mixed gas container. Only for starting and testing your engine. You can test your bulb once you put the line in Fuel tank, if it gets hard after a couple of squeezes your good to go. :)
Why would your black yellow stripe wire have a female and male connection is to connect multiple kill switch in parallel. Sorry forgot to mention that 👍
@joetheboatguy5394 thanks SO much for these replies and making a video for me! I'll review while in front of motor when I can. Thanks again for your generosity of time, Joe!
Brother, I am not a young guy and have had to return to tailor wiring discussions dozens of times bc I just can't keep it in my head. This is the BEST presentation of the simplicity of the 4-wire trailer light setup I have every seen, you win the Internet for the Year Award. Thank you!
Hi theplinkerslodge, I appreciate you viewing and your kind remarks. I am grateful for it. 👍
When the wiring diagram shows up on your you tube screen in this video, click on it to freeze the picture. In the lower right of the picture is a little square you can click on to enlarge the picture to the full screen. On your computer keyboard, depress the Alt button on the lower left simultaneously with the Print Screen button (upper right of keyboard to the right of the F12 button). This will capture the image on the screen. Then open Microsoft Word and select a blank page (if there are other options). When it opens, , click Ctrl and V on your keyboard simultaneously. This will paste the wiring diagram onto the blank page. Now select Layout in the blue bar at the top. Click on Orientation and select Landscape. This will rotate the page 90 degrees. Click on Margins (to the left of Orientation) and choose margins that are 0.5 inches top, bottom, and both sides. Click on the pasted diagram and dots will appear at the top, bottom, right and left sides, and corners. You may now click and hold the bottom right corner of the diagram and drag it down and to the right to fill the page. Click the Ctrl and P buttons simultaneously to enable you to print a copy of the wiring diagram so you can refer to it whenever necessary. Also use Ctrl S to save it to your computer and give it a filename you will recognize for future use.
very simple video two questions for you: do the wires going to the brake magnets should be be in series with one another or parallel? Can you put that diagram up in an easy to print format?
Hi crasher88, thanks for watching. For the brakes they are connected in parallel. For the image try to do a print screen and print it. UA-cam won’t let me paste an image in the messages. I hope this helps 👍
on my new radio i only have black, blue, yellow and red. i dont have orange what shoud i do
Hi albertodolbeth1, thanks for watching. Does your radio have the light option? Maybe you only have light on or off no dimmer option. Connect everything like the video except the orange. Hope this helps 👍
The red 12 volt wire is usually used for the breakaway system, right?
Hi garthtimmins, thanks for watching. It can be used to what ever needs 12v, including breakaway system. Hope this helps 👍

Hi LOUIE.VEGA82, thanks for watching, Ask away if you have questions....
Where is the black wire lol?
Hi businessgoose, thanks for watching Round 7-Pin Wiring Diagram º White Ground. • Brown Taillights. • Green Right turn / brakes. • Red Auxiliary power. • Yellow Left turn / brakes. • Black Reverse lights. • Blue Electric brakes. Sometimes they change the colors codes but light green or black usually reverse light, Hope this helps
@joetheboatguy5394 thank you, I am in the process of re wiring a trailer and am new, the red so far for multiple trucks had been left turn signal, when I wired brown to brown and green to green, my right turn signal would flash both left and right lights. So going brown to green and green to brown fixed that....
@joetheboatguy5394 so I'm very confused lol, the guy before me cut and spliced these cables up, I've been stripping ans reconnecting all day. Like 4 different grounds randomly placed...
@joetheboatguy5394 also, my black cable gets 0 volts, but my blue is a constant 12-14v. And blue goes to my breaks 0_0
Put your vehicular in reverse on and see if you get 12V on your black wire. Looks to me that the guy before you did a random job. Meaning not following the colors code. Might be complicated to figure out unless you have a multi-meter.
Which wire goes with the blue wire? Between the big wire , the pink ignition wire, white and brown wires, green wires, light blue wires, and yellow and brown wires? I found the navy blue wire lose and the radio does not give off sound. There is one black wire connected to the big brown wire.
Hi nombulelonkaki, thanks for watching. lets see if i can help - Red Power + 12V Accessory Power (Key in Ignition Position) - Yellow Power + 12V Constant Power to Keep Memory Alive (Ind of Key Pos) - Black Power - Chassis Ground - Blue Power / Antenna + Antenna Power - Blue / White Stripe Power / Amplifier + Amplifier Turn ON - Orange Power / Illum + Illum Wire. 0V when ext lights are OFF. 12V when are ON. - Orange / White Stripe Power / Dimmer + Dimmer Wire. 0 - 12V for Adj Dim. - Gray Speaker + Right Front Speaker - Gray / Black Stripe Speaker - Right Front Speaker - White Speaker + Left Front Speaker - White / Black Stripe Speaker - Left Front Speaker - Purple Speaker + Right Rear Speaker - Purple / Black Stripe Speaker - Right Rear Speaker - Green Speaker + Left Rear Speaker - Green / Black Stripe Speaker - Left Rear Speaker - Brown Misc. + Audio Mute (Not Used Frequently) - Light Green Misc. - Parking Brake - Light Violet Misc. + Reverse Gear Trigger - Pink Misc. + Vehicle Speed Sense (PWM) Let me know if this helps also check you radio wire diagram sometimes they change some colors. But most of the time the colors I gave you are pretty standard :)
Excellent explanation. I'm still not quite sure what to do with the white that comes off the terminal.
BTW, I ran a white ground wire both sides the full length of trailer
Hi babeadams, thanks for watching, the white wire is your ground wire. Most people just connected the white wire to trailer frames (unless you have a plastic trailer non conductive LOL) so your trailer becomes the ground. If you already passed your ground wire all the way on both side then this is even better. That is the right way to do it, its just more wire. Let me know if this helps.
@joetheboatguy5394 i just can't think what I'm not doing correctly. I'm using my twelve vote battery jumper pack, it is fully charged. I have checked all wires for continuity.I have no problem there. I promise this will be the last time I bother you
Hey babeadams, it's no bother. I have a youtube channel to try to help people, don't be shy to ask :) Do you have a multi-meter? Make sure you have your 12V coming out of your battery pack. Sorry, I'm starting with basic. You might already have done this. But I'm not there so I don't know. If you do have your 12V coming out of your battery pack, then tell me what exactly is not working? example Brake lights, taillights or all lights.
@joetheboatguy5394 well, good. News. With Your help and perseverance the lights are working. I'll send you pictures of my project when I'm done. Thanks again
Where did you get this from please?
Hi mavericktopgun, thanks for watching, I heard you got yourself 5 kills, that make you an ACE. Yes, i love the movie too LOL. Here's were I got it: also come with the sensor www.amazon.ca/gp/product/B000KORDF6/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1 Hope this helps
There never was a backup lamp wire in the 7 way it was meant to be used for auxiliary battery charging such as the 12 volt battery in your camper for the fridge and lights this way you didn't kill the tow vehicle battery. The trailer brake battery is on a separate circuit as it is dedicated for that area only. Back in the day trailers were never equipped with backup lamps as you don't see them on highway tractor trailers.
Hi michelbroder, thanks for watching. Now a days, the 7 trailer pin has a wire for backup light and a wire for 12v aux. Unless your 7 pin is not standard. 👍
@@joetheboatguy5394 The wiring diagrams I have from Bargman and Pollock show that the #4 terminal wire is for the trailer breakaway battery as it was dedicated for that purpose only and the #7 wire is for auxiliary circuit . I have yet to see a Stock, Flat Deck, Goose Neck, Fifth Wheel , Enclosed Utility or Camper Trailer with backup lamps unless they were installed aftermarket. Also do you see backup lamps on an 18 wheeler trailer as they don't exist as I have that 7 Way diagram also.
Hi michelbroder, i don't make the law but there's a law out there that says: If your trailer exceed 750 kg in weight. The law states that ANY trailer including caravans that exceed 750 kg need to have a fully functioning trailer reverse light. This is specified in Section 6.4 of regulation 48 approval of vehicles with regard to the installation of lighting and light signalling devices.
@@joetheboatguy5394 Where do you live as I have checked every Province and Territory in Canada and also I asked a Motor Carrier Enforcement Officer and according to him there is no requirement for backup lamps anywhere in Canada. When you talk about trailers above 750 kg. you must be in Canada or elsewhere where the metric system is in use.
@michelbroder6055. I found this on the web for Canada. « Many times, drivers think that just because their taillights might be visible over a low-profile trailer, operating lights on the trailer are optional. Yet in all jurisdictions in Canada, if you are going to tow a trailer, it must have operating running, brake, signal, and (dependent on size), reverse lights.Jul 13, 2017 cc »
Does a ground wire have to go to every light component? Can you just pig tail it to the frame?
Hi FlatOutFE, thanks for watching, You can connected the ground to the trailer frame. Of course your frame of your trailer need to be conductive. Lots of people will say it’s not the right way to do it, but everybody does it, including me 😉 hope this helps 👍
My fuse box is a mess 😭

Hi caseyarmstrong, thanks for watching, here is the original video; ua-cam.com/video/bnQZmurYQ-g/v-deo.htmlsi=blyNEqOWsmkVGYYS I talk about the trolling motor at 1:52 min. I would put an auto circuit breaker. Hope this helps 👍

Sorry I got it to work this way. It does really suck. Should be so simple but yet so complicated ☹️
Hello great explanation.my problem is that i have a 7 pin holder and the side light of one of than is not working others ok what is the problem
Hi TheFlyover, thanks for watching. I do have a 7 pin wire diagram. ua-cam.com/video/u1c0OPawJlc/v-deo.htmlsi=YTebLc7V5HvgrBJs When you say one light is not working, Is it a marker light? Is it a flasher? Is it a brake light? Let me know 👍 will figure it out.
Can I ask a question, when the brakes are pressed the yellow lights turn on not the red light, A professional trailer repair shop wired up the new 7 pin about 3 months ago.I never noticed it before, do you think something happened or it was wired wrong?
Hi sdexcalibur, thanks for watching. If a professional guy did this work you should bring it back to him, they should be a warranty of the work done. When you say yellow lights are you talking about marker lights? Let me know 👍
