The amount of things that can be solved or produced if someone just paid for it is mind blowing. A good chunk of Elon's success beyond his own extreme work ethic and skills, comes down to him being someone with both enough money and enough damns to give to make things happen. When you consider that he started amazing companies like SpaceX when his net worth wasn't particularly high relative to people like Bill Gates and Warren Buffet, it makes you wonder what could be done if more of our billionaires were huge nerds.

The Oculus Quest headset they funded and continue to innovate has already revolutionized VR and allowed it to take huge jumps forward in hardware, software, popularity, and affordability! The Quest store has proven to be a profitable platform for game developers to make real money on, more and more big studios are going to be hopping on the train!
Honestly I think it’ll come true soon, since we are currently in Quarantine, I bet that there is going to be a creation like this coming to save us from being bored inside of our homes.
Only issue is vr companies are unable to produce products atm due to quarantine, most vr headsets are sold out or are being extremely delayed. Hopefully everything fixes its self soon and the vr community can start evolving once again, and hopefully soon after that ill have the funds saved for my kit.
Closest thing we have to it at the moment is VR Chat, and it has indeed gotten a nice boost in activity due to the quarantine.
That being said, the issues mentioned in the video aren't going away without more time. The quarantine orders also aren't helping with manufacturing as was mentioned by ChemicalGears.

Honestly i spend most my time mixing my dreams with reality and vice versa i cant imagine what its going to be like when i finally get my hands on VR.
Fundamentally speaking, reality is just an illusion our brains present to us. When we're awake, the reality depicted is the processed data from our sensory organs. When we dream, it's the processed data purely from the brain. VR just inserts itself in the middle of one of the two processes and let's us control the data.
Anything beyond that isn't Virtual Reality but human augmentation, another highly interesting subject, but not quite the technical objective of VR technology.
When you wake up what are the chances that you are in the base reality :p
I could be a simulation for all I know

This is LITERALLY the gamer paradise, you can become your favourite character in the OASIS.
After listening to this I've come up with an idea... now I probably wont be able to accomplish said idea because I lack the skills to do it, but if the big companies like EA, Rockstar, etc.. arent gonna push for something like this...well let's take it into our own hands. Let's come together and build this. We as a community could do alot, like, battle in the courts to protect what we are trying to do, create the gear for this new thing, make the games for this, slowly build up. The gaming community as a whole is enormous and if it were to come together under one banner and work on the ideas in this video then,i believe , we can accomplish alot. I know this comment is thoroughly thought out and I'm going off the top of my head, but it's worth a thought and discussion. So cut me some slack, uts late and I'm sorta tired XD
Dw man, most of us have thought that at some point too because that's what we'd like to do, hence why some of us are studying computer science and more, it is possible, requires a huge load of effort, but possible. If you want an better example of how it could be put together, take fps experts, rpg experts, and more, all sharing their knowledge, put together with digital creators capable enough. A full blown global initiative made by game lovers for game lovers.

The a ready player one oasis game, but it's free so you know no one is still working on it, but it can be used to start up the oasis with modders.
Theirs entropia universe, but it uses real money to buy and get something you want, but you can do missions that can make money. And it a little outdated design wise.
The game build it self economy like in wow when a rare item drops everyone offers you real money so it’s already there. And by the time now a lot of company’s decide to bring their game free like cod warzone. Another thing is that they are still bringing features so they doesn’t stop working on it. It’s near I guess. Imagine steam holding only free games(will happen) then all they need to do is building a massive hub connecting games via portals for example. Then you have the oasis kinda It’s the easiest way I think

Technically could be done. The same data used for high immersion vr should translate right into Full a Dive. Thing is, Ready Player One’s vr tech exists. Full Dive currently doesn’t. Least we can do now is work on the software while we wait for hardware to catch up. Might be here a while though.
Virtual Dreamers definitely, it would still be awesome even with the tech we have now, or even with your rig👀 can’t wait til that’s done!

In the novel for Ready Player One, companies began licensing their properties to be included in the OASIS in the early days of the OASIS. Given the circumstances that lead to the way the world is in 2045 in the book was the government collapse due to fuel shortages. Companies like Disney probably do not exist in the timeline due to the economical impact of how the world ran on fossil fuels and the state of the U.S. Government mentioned in the novel, there was no one to uphold copyrights anyway (and in the story, Cory Doctorow is the President of the OASIS, and in RL he's anti DRM and Anti-DMCA, and more than likely rolled back the copyright restrictions put in place due to Disney constantly pushing the rights limitations every time their icon Mickey Mouse is on the verge of being released into the Public Domain. And with the world of the story, there's a good chance Doctorow did that and Disney didn't exist to stop him). With the way the world is right now, Disney is already hurting due to the pandemic, as there's no one visiting their parks (which a bulk of their money is earned), so without Disney pushing for another copyright extension to protect their copyrights, there's a good chance of the current copyright limitations being reverse to how they first were to begin with (instead of the 70 years after artists death we have now thanks to them and their puppet, Sonny Bono).
However, if a company adapted their games, characters, settings and items into a virtual world like VRChat and it had a marketplace, they could make money off of every in-world purchase (which is how it's explained in the book for Ready Player One, as licensing out into the OASIS was how games and other forms of media came to exist in the digital world). As for how the content is created, I believe that in order for an OASIS like environment to exist, the ability to create worlds, items, characters, gameplay and scripting for the virtual environment shouldn't be limited to just those who are dedicated 3D modelers, gamemakers or have a Bachelors in Science in game development. The ability to create should be made so easily that anyone can pick it up and start making (think of something along the lines of Media Molecule's game/game engine Dreams, where it's easy to create games, characters, items, and environments of varying qualities and a wide diversity. Most recently, I saw a video someone uploaded of a rather impressive virtual environment that looked close to photorealistic that a lot of people couldn't believe it was built in Dreams). Yes, the problem of hardware is currently and issue, but software and the ability to expand such a digital environment is a major factor to. Limiting to gamemakers is nothing more than gate keeping. Opening an easy to use tools and allow for creation to flow will expand such an environment as well.
Of course, I could be wrong with my opinion. I know nothing of game design or copyright laws. But having it open source and easy to create allows for more that can lead to something closer to what we see in the OASIS from RPO (the book and film versions). By allowing for easy to use tools, to put it as Wade says in the film, the only limit would be your imagination.
Well said! Thats exactly what I want to build too!! I want to create software that makes it easy for anyone to create the object of their imaginations. I'm not much of a programmer, but I'm learning UX design to begin drafting up some sketches and prototypes.

Elijah Claude Cool beans! To me, it's not just the modeling, but coding that needs to be easy. It is when the restrictions of abilities that are removed that leads to creativity to expand and create an OASIS-style program. Proof of this is the Internet. When it first began, if you were gonna create a webpage, you had to know HTML. But when WYSIWYG HTML page building programs came out, it made page creation easier and without being strictly bogged down with the possibility of the coding being wrong. I commend you, sir, for trying to make a program to allow for the creation of tools to make things easier. I wish you the best of luck with it.

I know this next comment will be probably stupid, but I hope that when it comes to the programs to build and create for VR, that they'd be as easy as Lego used to be years ago, where you got a bucket of random bricks and a note that said to make anything you want with it. With that bucket, you could build a house, vehicles, spaceships, furniture and anything else you could think of. And that's what I think creation tools should be: something that easy to use and that easy to create.
@@DanielS2001 In my opinion James Halliday is based on Tim Sweeney, I'm not gonna go in depth but just a little bit as of why.
Both created game engines, both free, both around the same time, both created their famous games as f2p (Fortnite).
Tim's quotes are very similar to Halliday in the movie, also a lot of his interviews about metaverse just scream the Oasis.
The book was published in 2011, the first fortnite build that was out was also out around 2011-2012.
in Unreal Engine there are blueprints where you do not need to know coding, simply understand the blueprints to make your character, well do things.
Look at what Fortnite is doing with the playable character skins, and together with Epic Games Launcher, collecting as many titles as possible. ( There is also a mini platform where you can play over 1000 Arcane titles, in the Epic Games Launcher.)
In my opinion this is a battle between Epic Games, Steam and Facebook, to as who creates and keeps the " Oasis ".
The Oasis would literally solve every problem that the " elites " have. It's why its going to be massivle pushed this year if not the next, which will lead to a massive burst of VR TECH and well the platform (oasis).
Edit: I also heard that a one world wide database is being built for servers and such. For the 3.0 Internet aka Metaverse aka well you know.

I feel like improving internet infrastructure is the most important thing overall; If everyone had internet like south Korea then game streaming would enable most of the functionality of the Oasis, at least when it comes to the wide scope of functionality..

I doubt it will be Oculus, they are no longer interested in pushing the boundaries of technology. Their focus is now mass adoption. Which is good... But they're not trying to invent new things anymore.
We have full body tracking, haptic suits, gloves and many more accessories that improve VR already. In 10 years I think this will be a reality.

Honestly, I thought of RPO when I first saw the matrix, and after the whole "The machines will stick you in the computer" I thought, you kidding me, Humans will build that for themselves and call it a day. Even in this day in age, I mean how good is real life really? And then think of all the fun and enjoyment you could have been in your favorite worlds, where YOU are the hero, where there is always enough food, you have the money, power, etc. Even if it's an illusion, it's pretty enticing. Yes there will be people who "reject the matrix" but again, that's their choice. When you put the choice back into the matter all of a sudden that world becomes more attractive.
I’ve always thought about how the Oasis might be achievable
There are millions of people playing virtual worlds of 100 player battle royales right now. This wont be too difficult. Cross platform is the key to it being a success

Maybe we could make a bunch of QUANTUM computers to take all of the worlds vr things so that you can have a war with thousands of avatars? And then for every one thousand vrs sold, we make another one or something?

Oasis will be much fun with the Nervegear/ BCI VR. The hardware in the movie is just disappointing. Although Ernest did write Ready Player One when no portable device like Quest 2 was available so it makes sense from the time it was written.
Also movies and shows are not basis for the upcoming VR technology. Neuralink might really bloom in the next 10 years with a whole brain interface and the BCI full dive VR will be the norm rather than external haptics so haptics might become obsolete. For those who don’t what what Full dive means then think of it like the matrix where you can dive in-game with all sensory experience while your real body is in a sleep induced state.
As Gabe Newell said Anyone who’s not researching BCI (Brain Computer Interface) right now are making a huge mistake.
With games like half life alyx we know the technology to achieve amazing VR experiences is there, but big companies aren't willing to risk investing so much money into a small niche community when they can easily make bank on Assassin's Creed #12

If you're talking about raw processing power, we might not have to wait that long. If we can figure out how to use the power already in the human brain to do the graphics and all other senses, and use technology to "steer" what you're having what basically amounts to a lucid dream about, it could come sooner than that. Now, it could take longer to develop the technology to make that a reality, but for now, I love my PSVR, and I really do believe that someday before I die, we'll have fulldive...matrix level.
I think a real oasis would be something akin to a VR mmo version of Steam where you can use it to travel between all the VR games on the platform and interact with people around where you are.

It certainly will happen. Can't accurately say when. The first time I went in there a couple days ago I met 5 people who sleep in VR, with the headsets on, together. It was really a perspective altering experience just talking with them. I would be lying if I wasn't a little curious and I now understand why. Unfortunately I can't get used to it but I almost wish my personal life would go on pause just to experience it.
This came in my recommend, I hope it blows up so people try to make it real.

This Movie is happening in the year 2045, so by taking the Movie and Book/Novel Literally, we have like 23 more years before this level of Gaming is possible, but in the movie, it is said that the Game itself is releasing right before 2026, specifically, December 2nd 2025. so I guess in 3 or 4 more years we'll get this game?

I've been following VR since Palmer lucky announced he had a dream and it finally seems like the experience is worth the buy. Considering how far we came in ten years from one guy's project, I'm pretty excited for the future

There was a company called axiom VR which I think is now haptix. They had videos on UA-cam years ago about a VR exoskeleton prototype they were working on. Not sure if they're still doing it but something like that to me is the true future of VR. That would truly allow us to have locomotion in virtual reality just like in real life. I know you're a big proponent of full dive and I mean who isn't :) I just feel like we'll have active full immersion capability long before we have in mind full dive. Another movie gave us a glimpse of the future as well and it still hasn’t come true. That movie was back to the future 2. We still don’t have robot diners or flying cars yet

Imagine a full dive VR like SAO. But you can go into different “server” kind things. Where one server is a dragon ball kind of thing and you can be a saiyan and train to become strong as you would in real life, but obviously multiplied by saiyan race. Or like a naruto server, SAO server etc. That would be amazing.
And the gear isn’t fully fitted with microwaves to fry your body when you die

All the tech is here except for maybe comfortable gloves, but for instance haptic suits, omnidirectional treadmills, full body tracking, eye tracking, stand-alone headsets and even heat simulators are already on the market. What’s holding us back is the graphical horsepower and servers that would be required for this, and the fact that not very many games support all of these features. The new OASIS would have to be built from the ground up with massive amounts of servers across the world, but it is very possible. This tech just needs to get cheaper so support can come for these features.
It'll become reality if all gaming industry and VR creators team up with countless of computer programmers to create a unified Metaverse, but that Metaverse has enough diversity and complexity that you will have more to explore like in the real world. 🔥✨

Vr chat is probably the closest thing to the oasis
VRChat is a good starting area for it currently. They recently introduced their own coding called Udon which has added a lot of extra functionalities to worlds that use it.
The reason i don't have a vr headset is because of the cost its just so high.
Imagine slaying someone with a diamond sword while you're in Spartan gear. Then you get attacked by a wraith from Apex Legends that is trying to kill you with a mega Man hand so you blow her up with a thermal detonator
You know Vader and freddy and almost every force user are basicly god in the game
