@@garretttoothaker1138 The VR rig won't be finished till late 2021, there's a reason I titled the video 2022 VR rig, not 2020 VR rig. The thing is, no amount of money can actually speed up the second part of the process, the software calibration. I could have the finished build today and it would still not be ready till 2021. No worries though, all documentation on the build will be publicly released under a CC 3.0 license as it's developed. If you know someone out there who will build it, feel free to pay them 👌

That's the beauty of it, I wrote it with balance of truth, nonsense, and jokes just normal enough that it may take a while to catch on the the trick. Dat thumbnail though 👌
I think it wouldnt be THAT hard to make something like the nerve gear. I dont have the scientific background, but i now describe personal experiences:
In my opinion it is possible to induce the sleep paralysis for giving us the relaxation and induce REM sleep. Thats the state where you are dreaming the most. I think brain waves can be manipulated from outside, to extend the REM phase. Also it is already possible to induce the lucid dream state with helmets flashing lights to your closed eyes.
Lucid dreaming is a dream state where you are fully aware of that you dream, all senses are activated and you have full control of this paralel world in your head.
Im an experienced lucid dreamer, i can induce the lucid dream state myself, even from the waking state directly into the dream.
I also have some experiences, that i induce the lucid dream while i am a passenger in a car and inside the lucid dream im having, i can clearly hear everything what people talk around me in the car. So im connected with the “real world” while im dreaming. An example: my parents drove the car and they asked me if i want to have a chocolate milk (we had this in the car). But they didnt know i was sleeping, but i dived into the lucid dream from the waking state before. So i heard them asking me and talking all the time, but i didnt want to wake up. Inside the dream i ate some big chocolate cookies and they tasted delicious. I asked them after i woke up and they confirmed asking me about having chocolate milk.
While they drove the car, i ran around in the dream, running around a parking lot, touching an electricity pylon, just to feel how real the log feels and doing some parcour stunts in an antique destroyed temple in a forest.
So if it’s possible to communicate with a lucid dreaming person from outside the dream, i think it has to be possible to send manipulated signals to the brain, through the ear, or electric impulses to the skin or brain. So that a scenery can be trigged into the dream, or objects and NPCs talking to you and your brain does all the work creating the world and objects in detail.
A more reliable way to let you stay asleep would be lite anesthetics like in “Inception”.
Only problem would be the online component. This lucid dream game would be single player only and it would be a very personal game, because the world, objects and characters would be based on your own life experience. But new world and characters could be forced into you, by watching a video with very fast pictures that would go directly into the subconscious. There were experiments where they hide a picture of a man inside television advertising, showing it for a fraction of a second and after that hundreds of people described seeing the same man in their dreams they never saw before in their life.
There are also experiments showing people a video with chips and putting a bowl of chips next to them. They had two test groups: In the first group the video shows the message “Eat chips” for a fraction of a second and in the other group video they showed the message about 1 second. The first group ate all of the chips, because they developed a need for chips, because the message went into their subconscious.
So with that technique, objects, NPCs, landscapes, quest targets and so on could be forced into your brain as well as the need for something (like that you feel the need to go somewhere or to get an object).
